Had dinner here with the wife and we both thought it was a very elegant place to dine. The atmosphere was very nice and the staff was very attentive and friendly. We were seated upstairs by the window with a great view of the Potomac. The cocktails were very good and blended very well. We had the lobster spring rolls for appetizers, although there wasn't very much lobster, it was very good. I had the prime Rib and my wife had the salmon for our main course. The prime Rib was tender, but without much flavor, sobit was good to have the horseradish available. My wife enjoyed her salmon, said the crusted topping was good with a little kick to it. Stopped by to grab a drink on the patio after walking around the waterfront with about 20 mins left of happy hour. Only planned to stay about 10-15 mins. Sat down and ordered two glasses of wine. We were then told by the waiter that we had to order at least an appetizer to sit there. Annoyed but fine, we ordered 1/2 a dozen oysters. Wine came out, wasn't really cold enough. Oysters came out, there was more shell than oyster consumed. HUGE pieces of shell had to be spit out after every oyster. Got the bill, wasn't charged the happy hour prices for the wine - we were charged full price. Strong chance of us never coming back here. read more

We went to the Chart House for Restaurant Week. The location is fantastic. The views of the river were wonderful. The restaurant itself left a lot to be desired. First, they hadn't properly cleared the snow and ice that came down yesterday off the stairs up to the restaurant. We slipped multiple times and even fell. We weren't the only ones, either. We told two people at the hostess station and they just sort of shrugged. The woman sent a young man out to take a look. No apology. Didn't say thanks that they'd put out salt. They were way too blasé about their customers falling on the way in to the place. Once inside, the building looks like an aging corporate hotel. How can you be that bland and boring in such beautiful location? The food was ok. Nothing great. The shrimp fresca was badly over-fried. The chowder was bland. The salmon was overcooked and fairly flavorless. The cheesecake, though, was nice. Our waiter was attentive, one of the highlights of the evening. It would be nice to have a drink here and watch the sunset, but the food is forgettable and they don't really care if their customers are injured on their property. Then gave a window seat across from us to someone else, not even 5 minutes later. My food was so slow, took 2 hours (and counting) for a single person. Waitress was nice and restaurant was pretty, but the dining experience was stressful. My appetizer also came at the same time as my entree. It took 30+ minutes to get bread on the table. We were recommended The Charthouse, we didn't have a reservation so we decided to just sit at the bar. As soon we sat we we're promptly greeted by the bartender. Although the bar was very busy she was very patient and attentive. She made great recommendations and displayed a great professional disposition. TRULY DO NOT RECOMMEND CHART HOUSE! We encountered one of the worst customer service experiences of our life at Chart House. Party of 5 sat down, ordered drinks, appetizers and a full entrees. Drinks/appetizers were fine... 4 out of the 5 entrees get delivered to the table and about 5 minutes later after waiting for that 5th meal to arrive, the waiter then decides to tell us that when ringing up the meals originally, he saw the dish was "out of stock" but didn't notify us until after the other meals were already on the table being served. The manager then comes over and is very disrespectful, trying to start an argument with us and then they proceed to keep the "out of stock" item on our tab, after 20 minutes of waiting for the manager to come to our table- she implies that she will take the dish off and give us a discount on the meal, which the discount was $11 off a close to $400 bill. Absolutely disgraceful! Please do not waste your money at this establishment. read more

Beautiful view, Delicious Food! Visited this place on a beautiful Tuesday evening. Their patio gets windy! Keep that in mind when deciding whether to dine indoors or outdoors. It did appear that the inside had a better view of the water as our view was obstructed with boats that were docked on the pier. Food: -Cream of crab soup. Speaks for itself! So creamy, so good. -Coconut Crunchy Shrimp. I could have passed on this one. Nothing really special about it. - Swordfish with asparagus couscous. Delicious! The swordfish was grilled perfectly and the couscous was well seasoned. -Paneed Chicken. Also really good. The lemon shallot butter sauce was a nice compliment to the meal. Customer Service: Our server was nothing less than professional. She was very patient and knowledgeable of the menu. This is a really nice outdoor eating spot for lunch/dinner. I wish I could rate this higher, but as a guy who spends more than $1,000 per month at restaurants, this the Chary House is not a favorite and is really just a place we go to grab a drink and maybe dessert, which are actually pretty good. read more

We made reservations days earlier and on Thanksgiving enjoyed a memorable dinner. They offered their usual menu and a typical Thanksgiving dinner. That's what we decided to have and it was better than most Thanksgiving dinners I've had. Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, collards and a delicious home made cranberry sauce (and I don't like cranberry sauce). The portions were enormous, especially turkey! I hate that I'm giving my once favorite restaurant a one star rating. I've been coming to chart house since 2011 and been to a few around the country. The old town location was always spot on. Amazing food. Great service. Nice location. The filet mignon was my absolute favorite meal to get. I've been to many top steakhouses in the country and for some reason the chart house filet mignon was always my favorite. Anyways. We hadn't come to this place since December of 2019 because of covid/having a baby. But my husband and I returned today after almost 3 years. The only positive I have is that the faux-jitos were really tasty. Negatives: 1 - the waitstaff is seriously sub par. Disheveled, unkempt, short tempered, unfriendly. Slow to respond. Almost like they just don't even care. Our waitress had really greasy hair, was slow as hell even though it was 4pm and there was barely anybody there, and very.. cold/unemotional. There was a table next to us and they kept asking for the bread and nobody would bring it. When they asked the waitress a second or third time, she gave them attitude and it was uncomfortable to watch. Cringe. 2 - the bread portions were cut 50%. Don't offer those delicious cracker type things anymore. Our bread that we got was EXTREMELY hot. We couldn't even touch it for a few minutes. Not the kind of hot like out of the oven, but hot out of the microwave. When it cooled down, the bread was SO stale and barely chewable. 3 - we ordered the filet mignon and honestly it was the worst steak I have ever had in my life. It tasted acidic, bitter, sour, just GROSS. Really really gross. We are concerned about getting some kind of illness. I had a bite, my husband had about 2. We decided not to eat anymore and get the check and go. It wasn't even worth our time complaining. I mean, who would we be complaining to? Another greasy haired, unkempt restaurant manager? The bartender, Mr. Lee was fantastic. He was welcoming and friendly. However, the restaurant definitely needs some TLC. First, the hostess didn't welcome us and there were several workers just hanging around. Next, the bar stools were so wobbly that it felt like they could have broken under you. The dust above the hanging lights was 6 inches deep. The bathroom was dirty and unkept. The seafood pep area next to the bar seemed unsanitary and unkempt. The crab soup was very good but the Caesar salad was just okay. The paneed chicken was just okay as well, but I was very disappointed that the bacon on the chicken BLT was raw. The location and setting are really the only things good about Chart House. I've been disappointed every time I eat here. Most recently, we were seated in time for a weekend brunch, then they switched to the dinner (not lunch) menu. There's nothing special about the food I've had there. I walk in every establishment with a five 5 in mind but it is now 20 mins after our reservation and I'm told there's still two reservations ahead of us. I'll update later but so far I'm at a 4(as of 9:15pm). Welp... almost one hour after our reservation and we were called at 9:30pm! RIDICULOUS. Something is severely flawed when a reservation is waiting just as long as a walk-in. It was also very warm in the restaurant up front as if there was no air conditioning on. The wait staff all appeared to be overworked and irritated. I wasn't at all impressed at this location. I've only gone to the Annapolis, Md location. We were seated in a section that had large party. The woman wasn't very attentive to our needs. When our food arrived, it wasn't very hot just luke warm. I don't know if this was because the kitchen was stress at even this late in the serving hour. We didn't get our food until about 10:28pm. We weren't given bread during this wait and neither of us ordered steak. When I received my happy meal plate, I wasn't at all impressed with the presentation or the portion size of my paper thin chicken breast. We were never asked if we needed a another glass of our watered down drinks. All in all...we were not satisfied and will never return to this Alexandria, Va location. read more

We were seated by the window towards the back so nicely felt like we had a lot of the place to ourselves. They put an anniversary message on the menu, which was a really great touch. Our server had jokes and most of the food timing was good. Exceeeept the damn lava cake. Our server first warned us that it would take 30 minutes, so we said no. She came back with coffee and told us that there was a cake that was going to be ready in 8 min that we could have. Well, that did not materialize. It felt a bit like a bait and switch to get us to order the cake and we spent way more time at the dinner than we were hoping Food: For the cost, I can't recommend this place. Nothing was bad by any means, but I spent $80 on sharing an app, 2 glasses of wine and a main. The app was the crab dip, which was tasty but nothing special and felt light on crab. My main was the asian style tuna served in a ginger sauce with rice, seaweed salad and pickled ginger. It was pretty good. 2 of my parties steaks were over done but the eaters said they tasted fine. From a menu perspective, I was a bit surprised at the lack of non fish offerings. I was really hoping for a scallop main, but it didn't exist as of the time of this writing. read more

My gf and I went to chart house for valentines 2020 and we had several problems with the Restaurant. 1. First they didn't sit us at a window seat when my reservation instructions noted that and I saw many window tables. I had to go up and ask about tables I found when we should of been set there first. 2. We tried to order the valentines dinner for 2 and they ran out of everything on the menu except for a few items. Also no lava cake which was a huge disappointment. Why would you advertise that and run out before 8:30pm. 3. Took a long time(35 to 40 min) to get my and hers dinner of sword fish and shrimp with potatoes. It shouldn't take longer to make coconut shrimp with potatoes and sword fish with rice/not much crab in the sword fish. 4. Last, they were supposed to Comp the salad and crab soup but only did the salad. In all I paid 150 for a dinner I could paid 80 at red lobster. Huge disappointment. I had grilled salmon. The fish was flaky, which means overcooked to me. The description of the side did not match the menu. Either that or the menu was too vague about the roast veg. I got grilled veg. Nothing great, but the eggplant was bitter. The waiter did not mention that it didn't come with a starch. I was able to eat a starch more to my liking at home. The main course had plenty of gluten-free options. At most one of the appetizers was GF and it didn't appeal to me. The waiter mentioned an off menu vegetable appetizer but I passed. Somehow my obviously sit-down order was interpreted as to go. My companions who like their food bland and proteinaceous were happy. If you're like that, you'll be ok. If you're like me and like balanced, flavorful plates, go elsewhere. The music was too loud for me to understand others consistently. Went with a large party (party of 8) on a Thursday night. They accommodated us with no problems at all. Our waitress (I'm sorry I forgot your name! Thursday October 3rd 2024) was exceptional. She was very friendly, offered us suggestions and was accommodating with requests (extra bread, etc). All of our appetizers came out first (sometimes restaurants rush you through appetizers and entrees at the same time). They gave us plenty of time between courses. Every ounce of food from appetizers to entrees were tasty, fresh, and hot. Would highly recommend Chart House Alexandria. read more

The chart house overlooks the pier where water taxis and ferry's dock. On a clear night you can see the ferris wheel lights at National Harbor while you dine. There is a semi-formal atmosphere that was perfect for our anniversary. read more

Came here to celebrate my best friend birthday. The view was amazing! It's right on the water and you see the National Harbor. Our server was nice but very slow. I did appreciate them acknowledging my friend's birthday. They had a nice card and dessert not just for the birthday girl but I received a special treat as well. Lemon drop was tasting and that's how far I will go. Calamari was bland and very very soft. Crab bisque lacked flavor. My shrimp ceaser salad was just okay. My shrimp were overcooked.
