My parents chose to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary here, and they invited me to come eat dinner with them. We have always heard of this Jacksonville spot, but have never had the chance to visit. When you pull into the parking lot, you have the option of complimentary valet or self-parking. I went with the latter, since I have a new car and am hesitant to have anyone else handle my car. There were plenty of parking spots to choose from, and I was able to walk in. There is a gorgeous, but loud, waterfall when you walk through the doors. The first thing I noticed was the beautiful atmosphere inside, with low lighting, wood, and unique art all throughout the restaurant. I was able to check in with the hostess and sit down at a table with a view of the water. There is an option to sit in the bar and lounge area, where they offer happy hour specials not available in the dining room. I stuck with my favorite drink at the moment, rum and coke, with my choice of rum being Captain Morgan's. I ended up having two all together, and they were well blended! My mom ordered the Moscow Mule, which she said tasted delicious. My dad is a craft beer fan, so he stuck with Bold City's Mad Manatee and Duke's Brown Ale. Our server was super friendly and made sure that the evening was special for my parents. He was gracious, full of suggestions, and accommodating. There was no room for complaints, since everything went smoothly. We started off our meal with the hummus platter appetizer. It is large enough to feed three people (or more), and comes with perfectly shaped balls of kalamata olive hummus, avocado hummus, and red pepper hummus. They are served with sides of pita bread and crispy fried plantain chips. We all enjoyed it and wiped the plate clean. For dinner, we all chose different dishes. I chose to try the 10 oz. Chart House Cut Prime Rib, which was a large portion for me and came served with Yukon mashed potatoes. It was my first time trying prime rib, so I didn't realize how fatty the meat would be, so keep that in mind if you are more of a filet mignon eater. But the meat that I did eat without fat was juicy and tender. My mom chose the Snapper Hemingway, which was a delicate, buttery fish with vegetable orzo as a side. My dad went with the stuffed shrimp, which I noticed he didn't share with anyone else, so it must have been good! Finally for dessert, my mom chose the creme brulee, topped with fresh raspberries. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful night. I would highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions! I believe that the visit was worth every dime spent. Went here for my anniversary. Read a bunch of mixed reviews and decide to try it out. I have nothing but good things to say. Food was delicious, I had Prime Rib and also had Oysters as my starter, service was top of the line, very friendly and knowledgeable of everything on the menu. We had a fantastic view of the Saint John's River. I read multiple reviews saying how outdated the building and decor was, I didn't feel this way. Is the building old, Yes. In my opinion it added to the experience it wasn't like it was old and falling apart. I would recommend to anyone looking for a great dinner experience. read more

made a reservation here for my best friends 21st bday. Our waitress Heather stopped by our table to ask if we wanted anything to drink. we ordered. waited 10 minutes for the drinks. (the restaurant was not busy at all on a Sunday night) heather dropped off our drinks and then walked away. we were still missing one drink. 10 minutes go by she asks if we want to order any apps... that would've been nice to have been asked at the beginning since we were all starving. (party of 6) we ordered an app and were served by another guy he was nice and then we got heather back over so we could order. when we placed our order a few of us got the mango steak and the pasta. the waitress asked if we wanted soup or salad to go with it so we told her either soup or salad. when we get the check we realize she charged us full price for the salad and soup that we assumed came with the meal since she did not make us aware of the extra charge. i ordered a caesar salad. there is no other description on the menu other than "caesar salad" no pictures at all. i figured that was a safe bet since i dislike seafood. my friends got their soup and salad and for some reason she did not bring my salad at the same time she brought it with the steak and pasta. (the steak with the sweet mango was NOT it and the shrimp in the pasta was very chewy and burnt as if it had been placed on charcoal). like ma'am could u pls give me my salad that takes 5 minutes to make i'm starving to death. she finally brings it out and i started eating it but it had an overwhelming fish taste... a caesar salad. i wait for heather to come back and i got tired of waiting bc i was so hungry. i walk up to who i assume is the manager because he is wearing a suit jacket. i hand him my plate and tell him my concern that it tasted like fish and i would like to order a baked potato instead. he reluctantly grabs my plate and says "oh we could've came to your table" Umm okay that's cool but how about you apologize and offer to fix the issue. I told him i waited for the server but she was taking too long to come to our table. a minute or two later he walks to my table to tell me and the entire party that the salad tasted like fish bc they put anchovies in it. that's something that should be included on the menu to avoid future issues. he then said would you like your baked potato loaded i said yes. 5 minutes later a nice man brings out my food and it was so good. after that the waitress came by our table twice within 10 minutes to check on us but at that point we were already done with her bs. she had an attitude when taking our orders and was not very friendly at all. she looked as if all the energy had been drained out of her and she hated to come to our table. It's been a while since I have dined here, but it still lives up their reputation. My dinner experience was a full 4 course meal. For the appetizer, we ordered the shrimp, crab, avocado, and mango stack. Very interesting combination yet the mango and avocado components are the standout for the dish. For the main course, I ordered the "Choose Your Chart" 3 course off the recommendation of our server. My soup of choice was lobster bisque and it was honestly the best I ever tasted. Perfecto! My main course was the shrimp trio (coconut crusted shrimp, crabbed stuffed shrimp, and sautéed spinach shrimp) with 3 mashed potatoes. Honestly I couldn't even finish it. Lastly lava cake for dessert which was divine. The view of the St. John's River from our table was majestic under the night sky. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating because the kitchen ran out a lot of the courses we tried to order initially. Highly recommend for a nice evening dinner. read more

Four of us came in for some steak and seafood. The restaurant itself is very nicely laid out, with a nice view of the river and downtown Jacksonville. Two of my friends had the tableside torched apple manhattan which is smoke infused at the table. They loved it. We had filet mignon and NY strip steak, plus Australian lobster tails, all perfectly prepared and totally delicious. The food is pricey but definitely worth it. My husband and I visited last night, during happy hour. There were no tables available (all fully reserved) so we waited for a table in the bar area. The hostess was the highlight of the evening as she came over to point out a table that had come open. We sat at the empty table and waited for it to be cleaned. Another table was vacated and a bartender went over and cleaned it. Instead of continuing to wait we switched to that one. At some point the hostess walked past us and we asked if she knew who could help us. She chatted with someone at the bar who brought over waters. We waited longer and he came back to take our drink orders and we went ahead and gave him our food as well: happy hour items of panko fried deviled eggs, prime rib sliders , and grilled fish tacos. Only the sliders were brought out and they were tasty. We continued to wait and eventually the bartender came by. I tried to ask for our check and he just take off the undelivered items but he went to the kitchen and had them expedited I guess. I wish he had listened because the eggs were not good except for the smear of filling. The fish tacos were overwhelmed by onions. There was a party at the restaurant but I think that the party was over staffed as there was lots of hanging out by the staff. All of the shrimp were very over cooked and pan grilled and no flavor, but we didn't say anything. The filet was fine and the dessert was great. The restaurant is very lovely and unique. The service we received was great. The food was disappointing. It wasn't that the food was cooked badly but the menu options will leave you wanting. For $43 I expect more than just meat and potatoes. I ordered the filet mignon and it was cooked well but my only option for a side dish was garlic mashed potatoes unless I ordered additional sides or "side by sides" at an additional charge. Other entrees did come with some sort of rice as the server explained. A revamp of the menu is needed at this price point. read more

My fiancé and I went here for Valentine's Day. My experience was not great at all, the bartender was our server. It took him over 15 mins to get our drink order and this is where our experience went left. I asked to get one of their specialty drinks, The Butterfly Effect, he advised me that he cannot make the drink. When I asked for another suggestion of a tequila drink he told me he could only make a margarita. Very basic. The drinks came and it took another 15 mins for us to place an appetizer order. Upon receiving our food, another table ordered one of their specialty drinks from the same menu and were able to get the drink made table side. I think the bartender is very unprofessional and lacked customer service skills. This should be an embarrassment to this establishment. Would not recommend to friends or family. read more

I was so disappointed in the good and Chris our server. My coconut shrimp was small pieces, over breaded and way over cooked. It was close to inedible. The child size prime rib was huge and all 3 were cooked the same despite requesting one be med. They were out of Mahi and some other fish on a Wednesday night with few other diners. The grouper was so small that the adult diner needed to eat part of his wife's snapper which was a good portion but also overfried. I was not paying so I did not feel I could complain. Chris our waiter was fair. He did not spend a lot of time with us despite the lack of other diners and as a table of 7 we were racking up quite a bill. He told us about ordering dessert early but we needed reminding which he did not do. Whenever he took plates off the table he would say excuse me are you done, but then when they said yes- he always said- I would never take your plate if I was not sure you were done which made it sound like he knew better than we did - just annoying and unnecessary to add this repeatedly. The restaurant is lovely and their menu good and the greeter was very nice. We had an Open Table reservation. I had a great cocktail - Moscato Sangria! Nice and sweet and light, but too much ice. This is one of our fav places since the 1980s but the chef that night was poor. For the cost, we will have to reconsider our decision to recommend again! read more

Chart House is a hidden gem, located next to the South Bank. Last night prior to a show at the Jacoby Theatre, my friend and I went to happy hour. Here are three great reasons to go. 1.The Service/ tied with the view, 2. The Food, delicious/happy hour, and 3. The atmosphere, you can come dressed for a show prior and others are also smartly dressed. Chris our server was fantastic, polite, knowledgeable, and very timely. The manager also came around Darrel? My husband and I ate here for my birthday dinner last week. We started with the crab cake appetizer which had an avocado corn relish and lemon shallot butter on it. It was mostly crab meat, and very yummy. I had the fresh grouper special of the day and my hubby had the prime rib, and they were both great. I didn't care for the rice pilaf (dry) or the asparagus (stringy, oily and overcooked), but my fish filled me up. My hubby said his prime rib was excellent, but his mashed potatoes were cold. He was also filled up by his entree so he didn't care about the potatoes. The cucumber martinis were refreshing and yummy. We sat at a table facing the water, and had a panoramic view of downtown Jacksonville. We enjoyed having dinner while watching dolphins play in the water. Our server, Brian, was great. Everything he told us was exactly as described, and he checked on us regularly without being overbearing. We did notice the table next to us wasn't being served well by another server, so we were very happy to have Brian! On our way out, I looked at the happy hour Flights pairing menu (cocktails/small plates), and it looked appetizing. We plan to come back for happy hour soon to give the pairings a try. read more

The chart house signature shrimp and scallops with a cucumber sauce and something else unmentionable along with cauliflower purée - $42 of obscene mediocrity . Stay away . Cannot communicate my disappointment . The crab stuffed shrimp was an ample portion and the potatoes were well prepared but for a $200 dinner , to walk away feeling like the soup and potatoes were the best prepared items was sad . Service - we had a very early reservation so not sure everyone was firing on all cylinders yet , but my wife and I had various items taken from the table that were critically needed later and never replaced ( knives for example ). The view is nice . If you're looking for a spot on the water and a polished casual environment , this is a good spot but do not expect to walk away enthusiastic about what you spent for it . read more

Only went for apps and drinks - but I liked It! building kind of looks like Sponge Bob designed a restaurant in the 70's....yet still something cool about it... The apps were all solid (GREAT mushrooms, solid lettuce wraps, good tuna, tasty prime rib sliders) but the pomegranate martinis were AWESOME....wife let me try hers - GREAT - good view, relaxed atmosphere - will be our place to go for drinks and apps before events downtown! read more

Next time I will try the Daytona location. I went to this location two nights in a row, with a group of people while in town for a convention. We all enjoyed the atmosphere and the location on the water. Overall the experience for me was good but I can't say the same for one of my co-workers. During the first night, he ordered a steak special. He ordered a medium steak but it came out rare. Once he complained, the server took the partially eaten steak, brought it to the kitchen and had them bring the temperature to medium. When it came back, it was the same partially eaten steak. The manager came by and said he hoped it was cooked better than walked off. We were not impressed with how they handled the situation. The second night, the same person had issues again. We came with a larger group and everyone received their food except him. The server came over and said they forgot to make it, and would bring it as soon as they cooked it. They server was very apologetic but we never saw a manager. The food here was good if they don't mess up your order. read more

This has been one of my favorite restaurants in Jacksonville for a very long time. It always has an terrific ambiance and gorgeous views of the river from practically every table in the restaurant. I usually hate salad bars, but this is the ONLY restaurant where frequently I make the salad bar my entire meal. They have a station for a server to make you a fresh Caesar salad and you can also nosh on caviar with all of the fixins. Make sure to try one of their specialty cocktails as I've never had one that wasn't truly delightful. The service is always impeccable, friendly and expedient. read more

CAUTION: We showed up for our reservation on time. We were told there is a 20-30 minute wait by a very courteous hostess. After checking in, we realized there was zero social distancing and people in the lobby were practically on top of each other waiting for tables. A majority of the tables in the dining room were within a couple of feet of each other. Candidly, this lack of COVID precautions made us feel like we're attending a Super Spreader event and scared us out of waiting. So we chose to eat elsewhere. read more

We attended the Chart House last night after the JAX Craft Beer Festival as we were both thinking of the mysteriously huge shrimp cocktail served over a bed of dry ice. Using Open Table to announce we would be there in 30 minutes, we caught the late dinner procession. Sitting together at one of the many tables with the waterside view, we were served by a very efficient character named Barrett. Clearly, he was well educated and trained to give us the best picture of the menu we could illicit from a few questions. We took his suggestions to the plates as the specials of the grouper and prime rib were stunning, one fork at a time. One did not need a culinary degree to see how good this was flowing from one course to the next. As for the mysterious shrimp, the venue was out of dry ice by the time we had arrived, but they still tasted great. I think I could have gone through another three servings of them. We departed the Chart House into the darkness of San Marco with thoughts of returning another evening in the near future to see what our server Barrett would recommend again. read more

We had a reservation but decided to go for Happy Hour food. The two black girls at the entry said we could sit at a tiny round table outside of the bar. We ordered and before we got our food the manager approached me and asked us why we chose this table and I said we wanted happy hour but forgot to tell him about the two black girls. He scolded us and said this table with the tablecloth was NOT to be used for happy hour but since I told him it was my birthday dinner and we would receive a reward of $25 off we wouldn't have to move. He was aggressive and mean and I am never coming back to this restaurant again. The food wasn't very good and especially the meat was tough on the sliders. Only good thing was the tasty key lime pie and iced tea. I think the manager should be replaced. read more
