The experience overall was decent. We sat down and were greeted kindly. Had a party of 10 for a birthday dinner. We got a majority of cocktails which took 45 minutes to receive. The food was pretty good but the service was substandard. Our waitress was nice upon greeting but started giving dirty looks and would not respond when we asked for anything. We received eye rolls when requesting another drink and slow service. I wouldn't go back when there are many other options in the area. This is my third visit here and we love the ambiance, and the service is always wonderful. Very nice and clean from the dining area to the restrooms. My hubby picked this place for my birthday dinner. I had the Paneed Chicken and he had the flounder stuffed with crab. Both was delish, the chicken was better because the flounder needed seasoning, the asparagus and mashed potatoes were also delicious. In town in business and I was craving a simple salad. Chart House Newport was 100 yards across street from the Fairfield Inn so I headed over. Sat at the bar - the bartender was uber professional, understated elegance. I had a glass of wine, lobster bisque (best I've had in a long time) and a Caesar salad. The salad was just a tad too salty ie maybe a bit too much anchovy paste in the dressing. But the romaine was fresh, the shaved Parmesan and croutons perfectly shaved and shaped. The homemade ice cream trio was the highlight. The apple pie ice cream was my favorite. All in all, perfect dining experience for me on a solo excursion! read more

Tuesday night is date night and we decided to try Chart House this week. This was our first time. The outdoor seating was fantastic, Jeff our waiter was fabulous, the blood orange margarita was out of this world! The food, however, was meh. I ordered the twin lobster tails with 2 sides...a $49 plate. The lobster was cooked perfectly. The fingerling potatoes and broccolini were inedible. Bland, boring, poorly cooked. When I spoke to the manager about it, he was less than concerned. We ordered dessert and another drink because we were still enjoying our time at Chart House (plus Jeff was great). When the $160 bill arrived, the manager had taken a mere $9 off our tab. So, unless we just want to hang out with Jeff again, we won't be back. read more

Our good friends recommended the Chart House for a nice romantic anniversary dinner. We took their advice and made reservations for the Chart House last night for 7:30 PM. Convenient parking by their valet services. We checked in around 7:15PM for a 7:30PM reservation. Although we had reservations we did not get seated until 8:00PM. What is the point of reservations if they could seat us close the time of the reservations. We proceeded to hang out at the bar lounge while waiting on our table. The ambience of the restaurant was amazing. This restaurant is located on riverboat row which is located on the river with a fantastic restaurant view of the water. The kitchen was created with a somewhat open appearance so we got to experience entrees and appetizers being plated without gloves. That was kind of concerning but we tried to not think about it. Then during our dinner the individual responsible for setting up the tables was have a loud conversation with a hostess with personal matters. This turned our romantic evening into a not so romantic moment when we got to hear loud conversations of the staff right next to our table. We ordered the Kim Chee calamari thinking it was going to have a tint or taste remotely like the actual Kim Chee flavors of spicy fermented cabbage. Not even close to true Kim Chee. They should have called this Asian chili calamari. Now we have had some great calamari from all over the world and this calamari appetizer was the worst ever based on the thin flavorless breading and the fact it was super over cooked. The Clamato was tossed in flavors of chili and terrakki sauce though.. There was not a hint of spicy flavors like true Kim Chee either. It was definitely calamari jerky. I do not recommend this dish despite the wait staff's recommendation. Not the best appetizer based on the fact that it was overcooked and the flavors did not reflect the name. We proceeded to wait another 30 minutes before the waitress decided to come back and take our order. Granted she was super busy but still a restaurant of that caliber should have been equipped with their best servers on Saturday evening. She did not offer us a any bread and we had to ask for bread. The service was a 2 star for sure. We finally ordered Filet Mignon with Baked potato and 9oz Prime Rib with steamed asparagus. The server then came back to let us know that they ran out of baked potato. But it then took another hour for the food to come out. At that point baked potatoes could have been cooked. We finally received our Filet Mignon with a miraculous baked potato on the plate which was contrary to the server communications. The dishes that we ordered was amazing for the exception of the steamed asparagus. The asparagus came out el dente with zero flavors. The prime rib was cooked just right and had a lot of flavors with very little fatty corners. The cut was prime for sure. The food was a 4 star based on what we ordered. For our extensive wait they offered us free dessert which was very thoughtful after waiting for an hour for the food arrive. We got there at 7:15PM but did not leave the restaurant until 10:00PM based on the above series of events. I wish I could have given the Chart House a five star but based on several issues Therefore, a fair 3 star for this restaurant. I would love to go back to this restaurant and reevaluate. However I do recommend this restaurant if you have the patience to wait. read more

Chart house ha sentimental value to my husband and I as the one in Monterey, CA is where we had our rehearsal dinner. We were pensive about seafood so far from an ocean but this location surprised us with the fresh and flavorful food. The staff was welcoming and easy to work with as our plans through the day changed so they let us push our reservation an hour. The crab cake was just right on the crunch outside with the tender meat on the inside. The coconut shrimp was good but we just wish there was more. The swordfish was some of the best we have and we order it anywhere it is on the menu. The lobster was cooked just right and was hot when it came out. This was a Valentine's Day nightmare. I made reservations a month or so in advance on open table. The only thing they had left was at 9:00 pm, which was fine with us. Chart House called to confirm about a week before the reservation and we confirmed. Get there at 8:55 pm, check in for our 9:00pm reservation, and wait. And wait. And wait some more. We were not seated until 10:00pm! The common sense question--why not just leave? Well, I had made a reservation for a nice dinner, confirmed it, and knew that at that time of night, nothing else would be available. So we believed that we were kind of stuck with our reservation as the best option for a good evening. What's unfortunate is that this was a common occurrence for at least 5 groups of individuals that I spoke to while waiting at the bar. Most had reservations for 8:30 and later. After checking numerous times, we received nothing for our inconvenience beyond excuses from the hostess that people were just "sitting" after dinner. I'm sorry, but what did she and the restaurant expect people to do on Valentine's Day? Eat and leave immediately? The restaurant overbooked and did nothing to accommodate those people they screwed over in the process. We waited at the overcrowded bar. The drinks that evening were less than desirable. My friend had to send her drink back it was so bad. And not just "this tastes mediocre"--it was undrinkable for a $14 cocktail. I stuck to wine and bourbon given the fact that the bar was so overwhelmed--one ingredient makes it simple. When we were finally seated, an hour after our reservation, we finally had some good luck! Our server was fantastic. She is the only reason that this is getting a 2 star review instead of 1. She made she sure we were taken care of and answered our questions about the menu. She was friendly, and attentive. Overall, the food was good, but certainly not worth the price you pay for it. The steak was good, but a bit salty. The crab legs were great, but a bit over cooked on the smaller legs. This is the type of food experience I'd expect at Red Lobster, not at a restaurant that charges twice that price. The whole experience was less than desirable. Especially on what is supposed to be a special evening. I won't be going back. And you should look for other accommodations for your next eventful evening. read more

Great dinner at the chart house! This restaurant has a beautiful view of Cincinnati and the Ohio river with huge floor to ceiling glass windows wrapping around most of the building. Our wine and food was all really good, too. I tried the coconut shrimp, maca nut mahi and the lava cake which were all cooked well and had nice flavor. That being said, I was very pleased with my experience last night as I booked a table for one on my self-love/self-care night out. I booked a reservation for one and showed up 20 minutes early and was still able to be seated right away next to a window giving me picturesque views of the skyline which I very much appreciate it. I was not seated next to a bunch of other loud rowdy people giving me the seclusion to reflect and meditate and simply enjoy my meal the way I wanted to. I started with a cocktail a fiery cucumber, which is rammed in old bay seasoning and definitely some thing I can see doing with a spicy jalapeño margarita! I then moved on to clam chowder which was a little bit oversalted but still hit the spot for a damp evening. The 14 ouncePrime rib with mashed potatoes did really hit the spot as I was craving some dense protein. I'm one of those weird crazy people that loves a great marbled cut of steak but then will literally cut away all of the fat and only eat the meat! I did end up taking about 25% of my plate home, and ordered the Hemingway snapper as a to go plate because I had really gone there for seafood but then could not resist getting a good steak! My family and I came here on New Years Eve, and had a great experience. Tonight was my birthday dinner with my family and I decided to come back because of the location and great experience before. In short, I'll never come back to this restaurant. Absolute terrible management. We sat down and didn't get our drink orders in for 30 minutes. Following that didn't get our appetizer order in for another 30 minutes (which was cold, as we watched our order sit in the runners area for 20 minutes). Then sat there and didn't get our order taken for another 30 minutes. So we're an hour and half into sitting in this restaurant and still haven't even had the chance to order our meal. There was a party of 12 behind us who we're the worst customers I could ever imagine (I worked in restaurants for 6 years). Our server was sweating absolute bullets waiting on every complaint they had. While the manager came by and talked to them and asked if he ca n do anything for them 5-6 times, while not stopping by our table once. Our server was clearly overextended and couldn't fix the situation himself, yet the manager did not step in to help once. After sitting there for 2 hours and having only 2 drinks each and a small (cold) appetizer, we finally got up and left. My mom went to the front desk to complain and ask for refund or discount our bill due to the terrible service. The hostess totally understood and was willing to help, and said she would get the manager. Soon enough the manager came up and was the most inconsiderate manager I've ever in my experience in hospitality. Didn't offer a discount or anything but instead handed us a $180 bill.... and walked away as we tried to reason with him how bad the service was. We contacted our credit card and got the charge cancelled and reported the restaurant to corporate. In short DO NOT EAT HERE. Absolutely terrible service all around. Our first time, we had a great opportunity during Restaurant Week. I love to scout out the menu before I go so we had visions of Filet dancing in our heads. We ordered almost immediately when we sat down; like I said, I did my research. We also upgraded with an appetizer: the crispy shrimp was perfectly crispy and served with a delicious red pepper sauce. We also enjoyed our Caesar salads that were generously topped with shaved Parmesan. However, after we finished our app and salads we were informed by our server that they had run out of the filet. I'm not sure why we were told this when we were waiting for our entree, as opposed to when we initially ordered, but we fell back in the Pork Ribeye since both of us had never had pork ribeye before. This ended up being an awesome choice and we had no regrets about missing out on the filet. The lava cake was perfect of course. We also enjoyed our drinks and the views were of course exceptional. Nice restaurant with good food, but very marginal service for the price. I've been wanting to try the Chart House for some time, I frequently eat at Landry restaurants with pretty good luck. This visit started much the same. We shared the Shrimp / Crab stack as the appetizer, the presentation and flavor was good! My Lobster Bisque was outstanding, great flavor, nice amount of lobster, I highly recommend! My wife's spinach salad with warm bacon dressing was pretty lackluster, just not much flavor. My peach bourbon glazed scallops and shrimp was good, the scallops were prepared nicely! Overall, this dish was good, but reminded me of seafood over creamed corn, not bad, but the creamed corn flavor overpowered the dish. My wife's king crab was fresh with nice flavor, but the clarified butter wasn't hot, it wasn't even warm or clarified! This was really puzzling and in her eyes greatly diminished the entire meal, really a shame. The restaurant couldn't have been half full, but the service or at lest our server was terrible! He spent a lot of time in our area, but gave use zero attention! When he was at the table, he was pleasant and attentive. Beyond that, our drinks were empty, bread was empty, butter was empty and when we finally flagged him down and reordered, it didn't arrive until very late in the meal. When the drink dropped at the table, he ran off so fast we couldn't get his attention for additional butter. Now he was gone and no getting him back, thank god for the attentiveness of a young busboy, he got her the butter. In closing, for a +$200 meal for two, I do expect good food and service...not the case here! read more

Went for a girl's night happy hour on Thursday--just 2 of us. Arrived at 5:15 pm and it was already lively, but some nice tables available. Found a nice two top with a view--and it is indeed a lovely view of the river! The happy hour menu has lots of choices and very reasonable prices. I ordered a nice $8 rioja and my friend had the $8 Federalist Chardonnay. We wanted appetizers so ordered the Maui style onion rings and skinny truffle fries. They arrived hot and fresh and were excellent. I have to mention the teamwork of the staff. We had a warm greeting from the host and I noticed that he was a real host and kept his eye on what was going on in the bar and dining room throughout our visit and kept things moving smoothly. Our server had a lot to cover, including mixing drinks at the bar, so was a little slow with a couple things but nothing serious. The busboy was really on the ball as well--as I said, lots of training and teamwork in evidence! Lots of free parking next to the restaurant. We had a great time. I would like to highlight the attention to detail for this establishment. Big or small the staff from valet and hostess to the wait staff and general management nailed every detail and then some that one would expect from a high end restaurant. Valet and host were attentive, polite, and quick. Our waiter (Jeff) was well humored, provided excellent recommendations, and interacted very appropriately with our party. He was able to read the mood and personalities of the group well. Our entrees for the entire party did not miss a beat. Salad plates were chilled, all the sauces were prepared fresh for each dish, and the seafood selections were fresh and appropriately cooked. I personally had the bourbon peach shrimp and scallops. This is a creation originating at the Chart House. The portion size was comfortable, scallops were fresh and large sized, the bourbon peach glaze was smooth, surprisingly not sweet, and paired well with the entree. Wait staff prepared a specialty menu for our guest of honors birthday and ensured we had prime seating with river view.... Oh and that view!!!! Go for the view and stay for the food. Well my first visit was not what I expected. Upon entering we were told that they will be us and the hostess proceeded to wipe all four door windows before coming back to seat us. We couldn't be seated as we didn't have reservations but yet there were ten open tables. We proceeded to go to the bar area seating and no one greeted us there and we had to ask if we needed to go to the bar and the bartender advised he would be right with us. We ask for suggestions of wines and we had to wait on a manager. Manager came and gave us choices but with a condescending tone. We received the appetizer and that was cold which was the Kim chee calamari. We ordered the stuffed shrimp and the sea bass. The coucous was cold the stuffed shrimp taste like stouffers with canned crab meat. The blackened bass was tan. It would have been nice if they specified that the coucous was pearl. Maybe they didn't want us back and from the lack of customer service, attentiveness, food and care we are happy to oblige. Money was not an object so we had no problem with the prices. It was the social setting, customer service and food that will not have us return. We weren't looking for a free meal or handouts but yet our concerns were not addressed and seem to fall by the waste side as expected because that it what we were shown the disrespect entire time. Very disappointed! We were seated at 7:00 and at 8:30 still no food !! Ask where our food was and was told it would be right out but it wasn't and then ask for manager!! He told us girl was brand new but did not place order and he would expedite! We did get 10 minutes later but prime rib tasted like salt but was afraid to say anything because was tired of waiting! Excellent service paired with mostly mediocre food: welcome to Chart House. We arrived around 5:00 P.M. on a Friday and were seated quickly and right in front of the window. I had a great view of the Big Mac Bridge. Paul has a great view of Joe's Crab Shack. Although Chart House is dated and in need of renovation, seating remains comfortable. Our server was a nice guy--very friendly and attentive. He was good about refilling drinks and somewhat obsessive about scraping crumbs off the tablecloth. I was thankful for the warm bread until I put butter on it. The butter tasted of mild freezer burn, which was odd. Paul ordered the cedar plank salmon, which was awful. The salmon, which I'm certain was farm raised, looked anemic and tasted "not right," according to Paul. On a brighter note, my Cuban scallops and shrimp were very good, and the boniato mash that was excellent. Paul and I split the chocolate lava cake. We were expecting a big treat, like the lava cake served at Morton's, but the cake was nearly tasteless, with the exception of the bits of toffee candy on top, and the vanilla ice cream tasted like something that came from GFS. Run on sentence, I know. Years ago, Chart House was a good restaurant. Now? Not so much. Bummer! read more

Please let me introduce you to our insect graveyard we had as guests this evening. The dead moth in the lamp and dead fly next to the salt shaker we're witness to an under seasoned steak, and significantly overpriced meal. When the waitress asked what type of water I wanted "regular" and sparking was brought (and not consumed) that was a $3.50 charge. When I didn't want mashed potatoes with my fillet mignon I received a $3.00 substitution charge for my baked potato. They give you four rolls and two crackers which is a confusing introduction. The other waiter in our section was more accommodating than our assigned waitress. The toilet in the women's restaurant was wild and/or haunted. Water was bubbling up and was stuck on a continuous loop of loud flushing noises.
