Absolutely great restaurant. Went for lunch today and had a very kind, helpful server. The restaurant wasn't too full at all either. The inside decor is incredible and it's such a cool atmosphere to eat in with all of the building's history. I got the whipped feta starter and the steak & frites. The whipped feta was soooo good and had honey and crushed pistachios on top. It came with soft pita too. The steak was nicely cooked and had a great taste. Located inside the Cincinnati Hilton Netherland Hotel , the restaurant and hotel are beautiful examples of art deco. Lots of ornate details and beautiful wood paneling give the ambience of a by-gone era. We ate at the Christmas Day buffet. I wasn't sure what to expect. We had reservations and there was a line waiting to be seated when we arrived. However, the line moved quickly and we were seated in a short amount of time. The service was excellent- our waitperson made sure our water, coffee and cola were always filled. The buffet itself had an extensive selection of food. The food was a very nice quality. I arrived to Cincinnati late in the evening. Headed downstairs from our hotel room to the 1931 restaurant for a nice dinner at about 8:45 pm on a Sunday night. They were still serving dinner, cocktails, and dessert. The espresso martinis were perfect. Ice cold and made just right way. For dinner we ordered the salmon. The portion was a bit small, but absolutely delicious. The sauce they were serving on it contained nuts, I asked for that on the side since I have a nut allergy and they were happy to do so. For dessert I had the tres leches cake and an Irish coffee. I did just finish driving 800 miles, I deserved it. Haha. read more

Visited on a Saturday evening at 5:30pm. Wasn't very busy as you can tell by my dining room picture I shared. There was a pianist playing when we arrived so that was a nice. Please note this restaurant is in the middle of a hotel, so you might hear some loud crowds here and there. Shortly after we were sat our sever greeted us. We ordered a couple drinks, which only took a few minutes. The drinks were great! My wife and I were very pleased. As for the dinner, it came out pretty quick. My wife ordered the Roasted Amish Chicken with a small plate of Blistered Brussels Sprouts to share. The chicken was delicious, and very moist. The mashed potatoes and broccoli were near perfect. The brussels sprouts were pretty good, my wife really liked them. I'm not a big fan of brussels sprouts, but these weren't too bad! I ordered the Lemon Pepper Salmon. I don't eat salmon often, as I prefer shrimp, catfish, cod, etc, but thought I would give it a try. I wasn't disappointed. Perfectly cooked, great taste. Came with fresh asparagus and those were good too. Overall a wonderful experience. Definitely recommend if you're staying at the hotel or in the area. read more

The hotel is stunning and sitting at the bar or dining room gives you a stunning view of the art deco architecture. We started with baked Gouda and it was tasty. I ordered scallops and hubby tried to order the baked cod, but they were out so he had pork roast. We both had mashed potatoes substituted for grits. Our meals had very nice presentations and were tasty. We both remarked they were a bit on the salty side. We then shared buckeye pie. It was very rich and very tasty! A good way to end the meal. You can request your eggs any style for no additional charge if you do not want the buffet scrambled. Mothers Day brunch was very disappointing. Way overpriced. Brunch resembled a buffet at a mid tier hotel. Presentation was not good. Food was even worse. Service was not good either. Very good restaurant. It's designed to be more casual than Orchids so it's not as fussy and it's also a little less expensive. We started with baked Brie and jam served with a variety of crackers as well as complementary bread - yummy delicious! My wife ordered diver scallops with beet grits, fennel and orange. I had a 6 ounce filet steak with mashed potatoes and broccolini. Everything was perfectly cooked although my steak had a little more salt than I prefer. It was still delicious. Cocktails, bourbon list and wines by the glass was just as good as before. The chef's old fashioned with frozen ice cube of simple syrup and bitters is still a remarkably excellent cocktail. Ambiance was perhaps the best attribute of this restaurant. Service was gracious with comfortable pacing. The crowd was a combination of well dressed and casual with many families coming from the Reds game on this summer evening. I planned a surprise for my wife on Mothers Day. We reserved brunch at 1 PM. Free valet parking was nice, the unmarked maze to the lobby and 1931 an unanticipated adventure. We were seated immediately at the middle of three 2-person small tables. We partook of the buffet. The main courses were lukewarm warm and un remarkable. The omelet station standard fare. Desserts were miniaturized and ample. Fresh shrimp was a plus. So was fresh fruit. While eating the attendant cleared and reset both tables on either side of us. The tight quarters made this more of an intrusion. On one he took the black table cloth, shook off the crumbs and replaced it on the table for the next guest. When done, the maître d' came to us and moved us to the reset table in the middle of our meal so that they could have a 4-person table in the remaining space. Rude. We got the table with the reused table cloth. The server was not clear about juices and where we could get them. We had asked for the senior rate but were initially charged the $20 more per person full rate. The ambiance was old and worn out, not art deco charming we had expected. All seats covered in vinyl were worn through, including large two person ornamental benches. Woodwork was dusty. The place needed simple updates. Sitting on split vinyl while paying close to $100 per person is an experience we do not recommend. Hilton, do better. read more

To the people complaining that the portions were small, if you order a "petite" filet and then complain that it's small, well, it's hard to take you seriously. Besides, not everyone expects a restaurant to pile on food as if you were headed to the electric chair. The salad I had was plenty big enough for two people, and the 6oz. filet I had came with a nice sized portion of mashed potatoes and broccoli...it was more than enough food. My wife had the salmon, which she enjoyed, and the portion size was just fine, too. We were also given bread that came with butter with honey on it. So, unless someone is a bottomless pit, there's no way you can leave hungry. Our food was very good, nice and hot, and my steak was cooked perfectly. I had asked for no egg on my salad, but when it came out it had it mixed throughout. I mentioned it to our server, he apologized, took it off our bill, and brought me another one. He made it right, so I see no reason to ding him for it; hey, it happens. On top of having an excellent meal, the setting is absolutely stunning. The Netherland Plaza is architecturally my favorite hotel in Cincinnati...it's like you're on a grand Art Deco ocean liner from the 1930s (think Ile de France or Normandie). I don't know how easy it is to find black cod in Cincy, but I know that it's darn hard to make perfectly, and this place nailed it-- buttery, tender, rich, yet delicate at the same time! Even the sides were perfect! The disappointments were the desserts (buckeye pie and I forgot what the other was), which made it a little anticlimactic. That's an easy fix, though! Quality - the piece of fish in Loks sauce was like eating fish jerky. The price! $162 for 2 seniors. Really? 2 buffets and a glass of wine. $162!! And you served lunch meat! last year I understood the pricing since it included tipping. This year I was told that it did not. Dinner was not worth over $200! Our server was fantastic with my Dad who has some challenges. She truly made my Dad's day and that's tough to do. He couldn't stop talking about her all the way home. She's a keeper. We were very excited to have a small holiday gathering of several friends in what was formerly the Orchids at Palm Court as we have always loved the ambience and service. While the food itself was good, the service was lacking due to what I think was understaffing. Twenty minutes after being seated, I went to the hostess to ask if we had a server who finally showed up 10 minutes later only to be told he would be back to get our drink orders as the bar (which had a decent crowd) was being slow. 45 minutes after being seated he finally arrived to get our orders only for us to have to remind him of some orders twice of drinks that never arrived. Finally when it was time for the bill we asked that it be split four ways based on the orders. He said it was Hilton's policy not to split checks. Seems suspect that every other restaurant has no issues doing it but Hilton does. No management was seen on the floor the entire night. read more
