I'll start off by saying, the service here is amazing, the location is wonderful, the oysters are probably some of the best fresh oysters I have ever had... And I've been eating oysters all over the world for years... My only complaint is that for the price of the food, the quality of the food could be better... I found my fish to be poorly cooked, the sauce to be bland, got cold fast, and some stuff overly salty others not at all. I didn't like my mains at all but the starters were awesome. If you go to enjoy a meal you'll get your best value from the appies. Mahi (I chose baked because everything else has oil but it was rubbery and uneven... undercooked on the inside and dry on the outside. I always bake fish so can't tell me that's why.) with lobster crab sauce (which was watery and not really a sauce at all...) sides were delicious and better flavour than the fish! read more

Very disappoInting visit tonight. We haven't been the charthouse in redondo beach in over ten years. We were craving there famous special Hot Lava Cake!!! This was amazing in the past. You have to wait at least 30 min to prepare it. Not frozen like other places. The first one came in about 45 min. You could see the outside was dry. We cut into it and was expecting the hot chocolate to flow out. It was cold. #2 Lava cake. Dry and luke warm. #3 lava cake dry again!!! Came here for dinner on Sunday with a couple of others and two kids at around 4:30pm. We had reservations and were seated rather quickly. We were seated in a corner table with a view of the beach. As we were seated one of the other employees was training another staff member on how to set-up the tables (she was rather snobby like she didn't want to be working) as we sit I notice our table cloth (underneath the "dinning cloth" as they called it) was dirty! I brought it to the staffs attention that was next to us setting up the table next to us and with the bad attitude that she had stated " ok I'll change it." They were already done setting up the table next to us and went about doing other things. Our server came and brought us bread and waters by this time and we still have a dirty linen on the table. So then I ask our server to please have it changed. I apologized for having to ask (even though I have zero reason to apologize-- staff should be apologizing for not having the table prepared properly) the server came back right away with linen and then the other staff member who I asked the first time came in with the assist and bluntly stated "can you guys stand up so we can set up the table" -- the approach to this situation should've been wayyy different. this staff member should really get a refresher course on customer service no matter what type of situation is going on, if it was a bad day-- customers deserve to have respect. Server was ok. Took our dinner down and it was served; felt like the table runners were more courteous than any other of the staff. Zero refills on our waters. Even after noticing they are empty and being asked twice. Food was good. Two of us had the coconut shrimp dinner one with a mango sticky rice (as described in the menu) and one had it with furikake rice. The coconut shrimp was very good. Flavorful. The "mango sticky rice" I found it as a weird description considering it wasn't a stickey rice. It was more of a regular jasmine rice with mango bits in it. It was good just a weird description. I am sad to write a pretty bad review on this Chart House. As most people, we have been locked in with not a whole lot of social activity outside of homes for the past 14 months, so we were really looking forward to a nice birthday celebration dinner out with friends this past weekend. We had a reservation, showed up to wait for a table with it seemed about 20-25 others in the waiting area for the Redondo Beach Chart House. Because of restrictions we couldn't wait in the bar as you might normally do so the 25 mins or so were a bit more boring than normal. (Though we did experience an earthquake while waiting that was centered in Hermosa so that was exciting for a few minutes) We were seated at a very nice table and told they would bring water and bread shortly. About 30 mins later water came, no promised bread. We def were hoping to get a drink order in by then, but were told the waiter would be around for it. Our waitress showed up another 20 mins later, so we had been at the table almost an hour before she came to take our order for drinks. THE BREAAAAAD SHOWED UP about 30 mins later. (can you tell I was starving?) THREE wonderful littttttle rolls for FOUR OF US! It was comical at this point and we gamely shared the rolls between the four of us. and we waved at our waiter that we would reeeeeally like to put in our food order. There was def a brisk business happening in the restaurant, but I couldn't see that it was unbelievably busy nor saw that our waitress was serving more than about 4 tables, so all of the silly situation of waiting and getting excited every time we saw her or a bus person was puzzling. We finally got the attention of our waitress and made the appetizer and food order at the same time because there was no guarantee we would ever see her again. The food arrived just under an hourlater (at the same time of course) and was very good, which was a lovely surprise as we had very little expectations after the experience thus far. NO promised additional bread ever showed up, no water refills, no checking for drink reorders. I am not that picky about service in general, I do expect the common minimums and I do know what it SHOULD be like. We discussed if it was even worth asking to speak to the manager but he was casually wandering around like this was the norm, so we decided it wasn't really worth the extra time involved and didn't want to make it an even more uncomfortable time for our birthday friends. I am VERY UNCOMFORTABLE under-tipping as I was a waitress for awhile way back when, and I normally tip at least 20-25% with an addition if they are phenomenal......but sometimes, very seldom, the situation just calls for a low tip. We had a $400 bill between the four of us and it would have been more had someone just LET US order more, and both couples only tipped about 10%. Yes, it makes my toes curl too, but there you have it. We spent 3 hours at our table, when normally a nice dinner is about 1.5? They could have had another party come in after us and made more money in that time but they seemed absolutely unable to handle a dinner and drinks. It's STILL a puzzle, but this was our Saturday experience, use this info as you will if you are contemplating a nice dinner here. read more

It is sad to have to write a Bad review for a place I liked so much before. This evening, my family had reservations for 5 people. On the reservation, I specifically asked if we could have a window seating for the sunset as it was a special birthday celebration for my cousin's wife. Mandy, the hostess, sat us at an inner table stating that the bigger table by the window did not have a server for another hour and window seating is first come first served. So we placidly sat at our inner table. After just 5 minutes, I saw that another hostess sat a party of 3 in the table that we originally wanted by the window. It made me livid, enough to lose my appetite. So I matched right up to Mandy and confronted her. She hid behind her manager. Of course her manager, Catherine, was apologetic and saying a server just showed up and so they sat the other party there. Obviously, LIES!!! There's obviously a reason why she did not seat us by the window. We were the only party that did not get a window seating in the restaurant when there are empty window tables available. I would not recommend coming to this restaurant! Bad bad bad service!! read more

So far not a good first impression. I've sent 2 emails inquiring about the possibility of booking this venue for my wedding and reception and have not received any type of reply. The first one was sent on 5/5/19 and another 5/9/19; in both cases I received an auto reply saying someone would contact me. Has anyone else had this issue? Is this a clear sign to stay away? Any current info on their wedding services would be appreciated. I've heard they had some turnover and perhaps it's impacted their level of service. My brother held a small, wedding reception here. Based on the service, food, and atmosphere, I plan to come back! First, it's located on the beach. So, the view is gorgeous on a clear day. I could imagine enjoying a great meal during sunset! The decor is rich without being gaudy. Classic and modern at the same time. Service was outstanding. Kudos to the staff (Michael, Jean, Lauren, etc.) for taking good care of us. Food wise, the portions were generous and delicious! The three entree selections my brother chose were filet mignon, salmon, and mac nut chicken. I had the chicken as I'm a ribeye fan! I was initially leery about the combination of mango, mac nut, and peanut sauce on the chicken. But, the combination worked and the chicken was moist and tender. Dessert was mud pie or cheesecake. Last weekend, my wife and I along with friends. drove up from Long Beach to your restaurant. We had a party of six. After waiting forever, despite reserving a table, we were eventually seated in a very small area outside of the main dining room. We were all extremely disappointed by the ridiculous initial wait and then our waiter. We gave our food order promptly after getting fixed up with drinks. Then another long wait for the food to arrive. Do you guys have a sufficiently large enough kitchen and staff? What is the problem? Perfect 1st date romantic sunset dinner restaurant! Sat at the bar at first with a glass of rose wine talking to my date. I can see the beach and the ocean. For dinner, we had a corner view - spacious between the other tables. We ordered our starters. My date enjoyed the clam chowder and I devoured the chopped spinach salad. The dressing was light and the perfect amount. For the main course he had the steak and lobster and I had the grilled salmon. Both dinners were cooked excellently! We went without reservations early Saturday evening. The garage parking at the front door is $6 valet only. The restaurant was quiet with no rushing staff. The ambience is updated and romantic. We were told there was a wait and directed to the bar. As soon as our cocktails were delivered they came to seat us. We had to carry our pricey fresh cocktails up stairs to the dining area but couldn't park our own car. At least the glasses aren't poured full so you don't spill. Once seated at a cramped 2 top while we observed many other couples sitting at larger tables. So now we order - a prime rib and a beef filet - appx $40 each. Both opted for vegetables instead of garlic mashed or French fried potatoes. A baked potato is an additional $3. A salad is an additional $10.50. Meats were tough, overcooked. Server wasn't around. Took an out of town customer to this wonderful restaurant with a beautiful view. From the appetizers, to the main entrees, the service to the view...truly exemplary. Everyone loved their food. The Prime Rib is supreme and the 10oz cut hit my stomach like a 20oz cut. The garlic mashed were outstanding. Splurging a bit, added a crab cake and Lobster Bisque to the meal. I'll give 5 stars for the view however the food and cocktails were just ok. We ordered the kimchi calamari, it was great! I strongly recommend it. I had Ahi Tuna as the main dish. The Ahi was a little over cooked but the flavor was good. It also came with fingerling potato and broccolini. Unfortunately the potato was average, the broccolini was very chewy. The worst dining experience ever. It started with the bar experience while waiting for our reservation. I ordered a cocktail and a club soda, the cocktail took 15 minutes to arrive, as I watched other guests receive theirs and they arrived after we had arrived. From there it went from bad to worse. We had a great table, ordered an appetizer & salad, then salad bar and dinner. The king crab legs were $95 a pound and served without a pre cut split..... are you kidding me! I tried to split the crab legs for 10 minutes, as my husband was eating his dinner. I gave up and asked to see a manager. He apologized and took my plate away. Food server told me a free mini desert was coming. it never came. I left the table, tracked down the manager and told him what a horrific dining & birthday experience this was. Went to Dinner for our 34th Anniversary and the food was delicious my Husbands Steak was cooked to perfection I had the King Salmon which was Delicious also. We also had the Salad Bar everything was so fresh and their Vinaigrette Dressing was excellent. We both had the Mashed Potatoes which were delicious also. My wife and I went there last night with some friends. Man oh man do I miss the pre-Covid days! Unfortunately we had to sit outside under a tent, so we didn't get a chance to feel the ambience of the inside of the restaurant. The food was pretty darn good! I had a New York strip steak with mashed potatoes. It was very good! Then I had a chopped salad that was very tasty. My wife had a fish, I am sorry I can't remember which kind, but she really enjoyed it as well. We talked it all off with the lava cake that is to die for! I highly recommend it! As for our server, he wasn't the best that we've ever had. Part of me wants to rip him for mediocre service, however I am certain that under these COVID-19 challenges that all servers are having to deal with it in their own ways. So I'll give him a pass. So we will be back to this restaurant at some point in the near future, because overall it was a really good experience. read more

I see there are a lot of mixed reviews but the last few times I've been here the experience was excellent. First off, you can't beat the view especially at sunset. The drink menu is beyond what I've seen at most restaurants. Everything from wine to whiskey to smokey drinks. As expected for a fine dining steak house, our server was VERY knowledgeable. They push the prime rib here pretty hard but it was hard to deny it. I got the 18-oz cut the largest one that they had and it came out pretty big. However I did notice that there was a lot of fat attached to the prime rib so it was okay in the end because there was a lot of fat attached to it. We also got the kimchi calamari and that was just tasted like regular calamari with kimchi aioli on top or something like that. I don't think I would get the calamari again. We also got cream spinach and a Caesar salad. The Caesar salad was nothing special I've had better at other steakhouses in the area. The cream spinach was also okay as well too. However for the ambiance you can't beat it it's right on the pier and we watch the sunset it was pretty amazing. Food was good for the most part - they ran out of the chef's dessert and chose to have cheesecake in its place with was not very good nor was it presented well. My friend took me to the Chart House last night for my Birthday dinner and we had an amazing wonderful time. What I like about the Redondo Beach location is: the ambience, the customer service and quality of the food. I must say our server Joe was outstanding, thank you for your friendly, kind and fun personality and just taking care of us and making it a wonderful dinner experience. On my next visit, i will request to sit in your section. The hostess that escorted us to our table was super friendly, she has a fun personality and courteous! My only negative feedback is the hostess that was standing by the hostess stand as I did not receive a welcoming greeting from her. She seemed very cold. When I mentioned in the notes of our reservation we are celebrating a Birthday, she did not say Happy Birthday just Ok. Maybe she's just having a bad day. Thank you Joe for a wonderful evening. Very good food. The octopus appetizer is an excellent addition to the already ample selections. Fresh salmon, with or without one of the optional toppers is a great entree choice. Be sure to save room for the made to order chocolate lava cake, which is amazing! The service, from Ashley S., was first rate. She was very helpful with menu selections, always on time with each course and refills, but never intrusive. All in all, a very enjoyable evening. Only issue for me, which is a big one, the background music is too loud, which caused all the other diners to talk loudly. And, yes, that cost this Chart House a full point! Been to other chart houses before but this is the first time that I did not enjoyed it.. food wise it was good, desserts was good too.. The reason why I gave it 3 stars was because of the service.. Frederick was our server, when we got our bread we asked for extra extra butter, (I don't mind paying more) but he said "the most I can give u is 2 more" really? Is it coming out of ur paycheck? ‍ The entire time it felt like we were a bother. But what really got to me was when my husband asked for a specialty coffee (him being new to coffee) "What's the sweetest coffee u got?" He sarcastically laughed and said "coffee is coffee" it really made it uncomfortable for all of us.. anyone that reads my reviews can see that I'm extremely fair and i hardly complain.. My family had a very nice 80th birthday for my Mom. Food was very good, although one steak that was ordered medium rare was brought out very rare. The server agreed and it was removed from our bill at their suggestion. Nice service. The bartenders need to learn how to make a lemon drop martini. They basically kept serving a large kamikaze. The rest of the drinks were very good including the tableside smoked whiskey drink. Raves about that one. Desserts were on point and the payment process was quick and simple. We went the day after Mother's Day may 15th Reservations at 6:15 pm got seated about 6:25 pm. Did not get looked at spoken to until 6:45 pm that was when we got our water poured. About 10 min later our server came and asked what we would like to drink at this point we knew all we wanted she said let her just take the drink order first. Then she will come back to take our order. Drinks and bread came about 15 min later. Then we ordered around 7:40 pm we received the starters and salads. Then about 7:55 pm we received our food. There were 7 of us out of the 7 3 people's order were messed up missing items or overbooked. Cheeseburger no cheese (kids burger) Halibut in a broth with no broth but so overcooked the broth would not have helped. (My husband never complains or returns food) Prime rib was ordered medium rare came medium plus asked to take back the waitress returned with the sane prime rib and said they overcooked all of them. I ended up giving my food to my husband because I felt horrible he did not eat. The waitress we feel did a great job handling the situation. Your understaffed for a nice upscale restaurant if your going to charge premium prices we expect premium food and service. We have been coming to chart house for so many years but the last few times it has been disappointing and with so many other options today our business will go elsewhere. The management did not come to our table to explain speak or acknowledge the problems. They took the prime rib and the halibut off our bill which was very nice and appreciated. Celebrated Father's Day with family here. The valet was so packed that pple had to park elsewhere. The view of the restaurant was spectacular. The food was decent but not amazing. I ordered the King Salmon with asparagus. Look at my pic, I hope you are as freaked out by the size as I was. Yes, it tastes as hard & raw as it appears. So that ruined my meal. The King Salmon was cooked perfectly. Hubby got the 18 oz prime rib. If they cut the steak thinner, then it would've tasted better. Make sure you try out the salad bar. It's all worth it! This is the worst meal experience we have ever had. Came here for first ever Thanksgiving dinner ever at a restaurant and not at home. We decided to eat out because we were entertaining out of town guests who could not climb the stairs in our "upside down house. Big, Big Mistake! 45 minutes to get water 65 minutes to get cocktails we ordered 45 minutes previously. We brought a bottle of Silverado 2013 Cab. The waitress opened it right away but never brought any glasses to the table for another 40 minutes! The restaurant was full with other groups out front waiting. Absolutely NO bus boys working the whole night. Each course delivered and we had to hand them our dirty dishes in order for them to place the plate on the table. Some people ordered lobster bisque. The closest that came to lobster was the restaurant was on the water's edge! The whole meal was abysmal. They should be ashamed to open on Thanksgiving and serve up such absolute tasteless dross. we were in the restaurant for 3 hours 45 minutes. I have been to this particular restaurant many times over the last 30 years but I WILL NEVER EVER EVER COME HERE AGAIN. One star us far far too many but you can't give any less. read more
