Rarely do I have a bad experience at a restaurant. However, it happens and this one took the cake. I was visiting my brother in Crescent City when he suggested the chart room. As a former Chef I'm always excited to go to these smaller no chain restaurants. Well, we arrived at the restaurant at 10am. The restaurant was stuffy (there are huge windows everywhere, not that hard to open up a couple to get some airflow). We were seated in the back at a table closest to the kitchen. Looking over the menu we were confused as to why it wasn't the brunch menu. One coffee and 20 min later our waitress finally came to the table. She then informed us that Brunch would only begin around 11 and that if we wanted we should come back at that time to place our order. So we went exploring on the beach for 45 min. When we came back it was 11:10am. We ordered the Clam chowder, the shrimp and chips and the fish and chips. The chowder came out 10 minutes later, Delicious. Everything about it was amazing. Hot, thick and the mouth feel was incredible! Loved it. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. Took out our phones and waited some more. At 11:40 I told my brother if the food wasn't delivered in 5 minutes, we would leave. Tables around us were getting their meals accompanied with ordered of fries. At 11:50 I finally flagged down a waitress and told her to cancel our meal because it was talking too long. She went and found out original waitress and we were told that they "got busy" Okay. I'm not unreasonable. 14 years In The restaurant industry, I've heard it all. But, our entire meal was deep fried.... so why that was an issue is beyond my comprehension. Needless to say I was disappointed. We left, hungry and disappointed. Turns out the sign in the window was accurate, guess we both starved that morning. read more

Very busy, line was out the door. It took an hour to get seated. The food was very tasty. Chowder and lobster bisque were each delicious. I got the fried fish with rice pilaf (amazing pilaf), my buddy got the grilled seafood combo. Very good food. Staff was friendly while working their rears off. read more

Although the food was pretty tasty the issue was at the checkout. I handed my debit card to pay. When the girl handed me a receipt to sign I discovered she charged me $78.98 for a sandwich and a soda. I told her this is a mistake. In comes girl #2. Girl number two handed me a receipt showing me she refunded my account 78.98 however she refunded 78.98 on someone else's credit card and handed me their credit card. Now my patience is near to none. In the meantime there is a line of people waiting to pay. I said to girl number one, you have to refund my account 78.98. You then have to take the refund of 78.98 off the other persons card. I received a receipt that demonstraits they refunded my card 78.98 . I then had to ask them to pay for my meal. Somehow I believe at the end of the day the Chart Room will be 78.98 short. read more

The place was quite crowded by the time we were through eating. It appears to be a popular spot. My sister had the grilled shrimp sandwich which was very good. I had the fish tacos which were rather boring. Not terrible but not great. The best thing was their blackberry cobbler, warm with ice cream. Have eaten here before. But no more! They added a surcharge to my bill for using a credit card. When I questioned the cashier as to why there was a surcharge, they said it was posted, without showing me where. I looked around and found a small piece of paper attached to the plastic register shield, listing their policy in small print. Guess i was expected to search all over the cashier area and read all the small notes posted before being served. They don't inform you of their surcharge policy, in any substantial way. In fact, it is deceptive, in my opinion. And when I questioned the cashier, she acted as if she was empowered to charge me extra, in a very sneaky manner and couldn't care a less. The food quality was mediocre at best (chowder had the consistency of paste, oily fish'n chips). The waitress provided good fast service though. The mediocre food quality and deceptive surcharge aren't her fault. Too bad she has to work here. We won't be eating here any more. But fortunately, there are other dining options in Crescent City (ie Sea Quake Grill), with better food, great customer service and no deceptive surcharges. read more

Best.fish.and.chips hands down! (When the oil is new enough) I have been slowly taking a more vegetarian approach to food, but when I visit Crescent City, I turn into a pescatarian. I do so love anything fishy. The batter of the fish is light, more a panko-type of thin batter. It turns a lovely shade of crispy brown and does not retain the oiliness of thicker batter. Same thing goes for the fries, they are crispy on the outside and long and soft on the inside. I really like the pear cider to drink with dinner. It is a wonderful place to enjoy the feeling of sitting at a long table, being with the family and enjoying everyone's banter. The view you have of the setting sun during dinner, with the seals basking in the last of the rays, adds an idyllic feel to this American harbor side restaurant. I have also been here for lunch and can defi itely recommend the crab sandwich. The cole slaw is also light and not heavy, crunchy and not too much cabbage. Delicious! Lots of free parking, good food, good beer, a great rock to climb on while you wait, seals to see, what more do you want from an ocean-side restaurant? read more

Oh my gosh YUM!! The view alone is beautiful! My dog and I were able to sit and admire the two ocean views! I was able to easily order at the window and the young lady was extremely sweet and had excellent customer service! I wanted to split grilled and fried but couldn't. Ordered fried because waitress bragged about their beer breading. The problem - scallops held their water during prep, making them soggy. So after the breading fell off.. there wasn't much left to be desired. Skip this place and try another place close by, unless you like cafeterias and aren't looking for fresh seafood. read more

This is the only restaurant I eat at when I visit crescent city. I love their clam chowder, it's the only meal I eat there because it's one of my safe foods (I'm autistic) their service was nice and the waitress waited for me to reply to questions even though it takes me a bit of time to process what was being asked! I love sitting by the window but sometimes it's not possible because it gets really busy but they have a list you can put your name down on to sit next to the windows to look at the ocean and the animals! read more

I am a seafood snob, but I loved the dinner that I had. I moved to the PNW five years ago. I thought it was the best seafood dinner I have had since moving to the West Coast. The wait staff were very friendly, but it took them a while to take our drink and food order. The food was prepared quickly and it was hot. Not a fancy restaurant. We ate here twice during our stay. If you're looking for seaside fish shack eating, this is the place. The first day I had the grilled crab sandwich and my wife had the grilled shrimp sandwich. Both were good and exactly what we were looking for. The second day we split an order of fish and chips and an order of fried oysters. The fish and chips were the best I've had in a long time. Cooked perfectly with a crunchy light batter. The oysters were delicious and fresh. The Bloody Mary was surprisingly good. The best part about this place is the seal sideshow going on in the harbor. Picnic tables set along the harbor side offer a great outdoor dining option with a front seat view to watch the seals. Covid precautions were on point with a takeout window. We look forward to coming back and will definitely eat here again. read more

On our way to Coos Bay we stopped off in Cresent City for lunch and stumbled upon this little gem. We both had the grilled crab sandwich and clam chowder. While we were waiting we heard someone playing the guitar around the corner where the picnic tables were so we went and checked him out. He was very good and enjoyable to listen to. Then came time for lunch. OMG loved both the crab sandwich and chowder. The sandwich had good flavor and plenty of crab. The chowder had really good flavor and was loaded with clams. When he had told our waitress it was incorrect she stated that she couldn't hear him say grilled when in fact during ordering she had asked him specifically fried or grilled. She had offered to take it back but because he and I had already waited an hour to be seated and another 30 minutes for our food to come out he had declined.
