The food is ALWAYS good. Every time I am in Crescent City I make a point of eating at Chart Room.

Classic seafood restaurant that you would find on the East Coast or West Coast. Not your fancy, white tablecloth seafood restaurant, which was not what I was looking for anyway.Great food, mostly fried, although I could've gotten the scallops grilled. I had the scallops, and they were absolutely perfect. Coleslaw couldn't have been better. It was not overdressed. Everything was wonderfully fresh. Excellent service. Don't like the ad on charge for the credit card. Raise your prices! Terrific view of the seals and sea lions right out the window. I am here by myself for five nights, so I will probably go back. read more

Excellent fish (7 lg pieces) and your choice of fries, baked potato, or rice pilaf. Comes with a vegetable. Great local beers to choose from. The service is friendly and excellent. And even though we didn't ask for nor get a window table we still had a great view. We watched divers in the bay and it was a great experience. Be prepared for a long wait on weekends and they don't take reservations. Worth the wait. read more

Meh...portions were small and expensive. Good service and good view of the harbor. I got New England clam and the combination platter (two shrimp, two scallops, and one small piece of cod). My wife got the French dip and again, super salty. Same server as last year, Stephanie who did a very good job. Probably won't go back since the food is mediocre. Also, if you plan on paying by credit card, they charge you an extra 3%. Most businesses absorb this cost but it's a bit annoying since we live in an almost cashless society that they have to flat out charge you for the convenience. read more

Awesome location with a view of the sea lions. Our waitress was awesome and every Oder was as requested for our party of 7. We tried everything. Fish and chips , sampler platter, French dip, fish tacos and hamburgers. We either ate it all or took it home as it was very good. No complaints and everyone was happy. It is not a 5, but a solid 4. Not worth the over hour wait with visible empty tables. Nothing was fresh that we could discern, it was typical bar food fish fare, view was great and our server was awesome. Long time to receive food, pretty sure crab was canned, grease and soggy everything everywhere. read more

Of the two places I had clam chowder in Crescent City this was hands down the best. The sourdough bread was fresh and the chowder had a real tasty flavor. Less of that salty taste and less of that bacon taste that I'm not a fan of , and more of the creamy potato and clam taste. The fish was a bit too greasy and soggy for our taste but I loved their fries (chips), coleslaw, and their tarter sauce was really flavorful. Service was great even when they were real busy and I loved that we had views to the ocean from our seats. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. Seriously $70 for nasty food. Super regret. Ordered fish & chips thinking it would be a fish filet but it was fish mcnuggets. Nothing but a grease fest from marble sized pieces of fish in golf ball sized pieces of batter. Yuck yuck yuck. So disappointing after this place came so highly recommended. We drove over 12 hours to visit Crescent City and upon arrival, heard many great things about this restaurant. Well our personal experience wasn't so great. We waited over an hour and half to get seated. Two people added their name to list on the bottom of the first page and came after us and were sat before us. We informed them that we had been skipped. They apologized and said we would be next. We were the last table to be sat. The waitress seemed frantic and over worked. When placing our order, everything we wanted, they ran out of. We ordered their famous claim chowder soup, and to be honest, it was luke warm, not very flavorful and had the texture like it's been there all day. The atmosphere didn't feel very inviting or comfortable. The food was okay. Not alot of flavor and not worth the price. If we ever come back to visit, we will definitely not be going back there. read more

I was recommended that we eat at the Chart Room by a friend, and I was very pleased that we did! The food was excellent and the service was quick and friendly. It was a beautiful day and we had a lovely view of the ocean, and we were able to get some great photos of some sunbathing seals. I tried lobster bisque for the first time while here and it was fantastic! Definitely worth the little extra you can pay to "upgrade" your soup and sandwich combo from the soup being clam chowder. I ordered the half sandwich and cup of soup and I was satisfied, but the standard meal sizes are quite large and have two sides. Big appetites will be happy here! The restaurant itself is clean and well-maintained. It's a little off the beaten path of the 101, so its a little less touristy than many places. If you're in the area and looking for some good sit-down restaurant food, this is it! We'll be back the next time we make the drive up North. read more

Enjoyed this local hallmark with plenty of seafood options plus great view of the harbor seals. We ordered the lobster bisque, bouillabaisse, crab Louie salad and the fried scallops platter. Kitchen was running slow perhaps due to change of breakfast to lunch but when the food arrived, it was good. Just would've liked more notice on how long it could take for food to arrive. I was in a very simple mood and got chicken strips and they were so tough I thought I was going to break a tooth. At that point just take them off the menu. Dined in and thoroughly enjoyed the laid-back fish restaurant vibe. My partner had an incredible half-crab sandwich, half-soup meal she liked a lot. It was fun to sit by the window and see the Sea Lions napping in the sun. I ordered the fried scallops and was disappointed that the scallops themselves tasted as if they had been cooked with nearly no seasoning. The batter was good, but after a few minutes gave way to the liquid from the scallops, leaving a goopy, watery mess of a meal. Nothing a bit of malt vinegar couldn't fix, but ultimately just wish the scallops had had a bit more flavor. Restaurant sits on the harbor with a great view of sunset and wild sea lions, but food was very average, including their clam chowder and Louie crab salad that other reviews seemed to enjoy. We've found 2 strans of human hairs in our food, but hey this happens from time to time when others handling your food. LOL. Supposedly someone in the kitchen has plenty of hair to go around. It's an okay place to grab a bite. On the plus side, we caught a great view where we sat. Tables are catered for larger groups and that resulted us sharing a table with another couple. Why is everything so greasy? We went here for dinner and breakfast the next day because it was very close to where we stayed and our hosts recommended it. For dinner we got the Fish n Chips which were just swimming in grease. It was clear that the oil had not been up to temp. Instead of nice and crisp battered fish, we ended up with a soggy mess. The fries were quite nice. The Crab Sandwich was quite pricey given the portion size. It wasn't bad but it was very one dimensional. The cheese actually over-powered the sweet delicate crab. I would definitely recommend a little less cheese and a splash of some acid like lemon maybe to really help that crab shine through on what has the potential to be not just a good dish but a great one. The bread however was insanely greasy. It really didn't need that much butter, definitely not to the point where instead of nice and crispy toast I'm left with soggy bread and icky fingers. The clam chowder was nice and comforting. A splash of Tabasco to cut through the richness really takes it up a notch. For breakfast we got the veggie omelette, country hash and sausage gravy. Everything tasted quite nice although, you guessed it, the has was extremely greasy. I could probably have fried a couple of eggs in the grease leftover on my plate. Overall the food has the potential to be better with some small adjustments. I'm all for good old classic diner style food and I'm not a calorie watcher by a long shot, but I really don't like excess grease to the point where it interferes with the food. When we arrived as a party of six we were told it'd be a short wait. They put us on a waitlist and gave us a buzzer. We got in quickly and the new girl up front with the cool earrings was very nice to my niece. We sat right where the seals slept at and enjoyed the beach scenery right from our table. Our server was quick and prompt and dealt with us calmly when she was in a big of a rush. All the staff was very lovely. Went in on a summer Friday night. Get there early is all I can say! One hour wait to get sat. Staff was friendly and hard working, probably just not enough people to hire in this small beachside town. The same person was managing the wait list, busing tables and ringing register. Always frustrating when you see tables that have turned but customers not being sat yet. Food was good. Pacific cod was moist if not very seasoned. Tartar sauce was good. Rice had a nice mix to it. Soup was a good starter. Chicken Alfredo was good as well. It's a small place with a great view. If you want to treat yourself, go for it. read more

Food and... Sealions! The food was just amazing! And so was the service. We ate there twice in one day. Both times they were super busy but we were always seated within 30 minutes. I definitely recommend trying to get a window seat its super fun to watch the sea lions! I got the fried oysters( AMAZING) and clam chowder in a bread bowl(also AMAZING). Crab sandwich was absolutely delicious with a generous portion of seafood. The clam chowder was mostly cornstarch. The Caesar salad was definitely off. Food was ok, not the best service. Feels like a cheap diner to be honest. I wanted to sit outside, so to hostess told me I'd have to order to go. After I was ready to order, I had to wait for the waitress since the hostess couldn't take my order (really? Why not, oh dear owner / manager? Your waitresses are overworked and grumpy, at least let the "to go" people order at the door) Okay, so I ask the waitress if there is a chance I can get my order in normal dishes on a tray or something. She says they don't have trays. I'm thinking she is missing the point, so I clarify that I was hoping to avoid the styrofoam. Her response killed me: "well, you get a to-go box, so it's kinda like eating from a tray" (?!?!?) mind this is all accompanies by a total "f-off, if you ask for one more thing, I'm going to spit in your food". I ordered clam chowder and shrimp cocktail. It took me 15-20 min to get my order. Pretty sure none of it was cooked from scratch. The whole experience left me feeling uneasy... like they did spit in my food just for asking questions to make my experience a bit more enjoyable and not tipping (does anyone tip for to-go orders accompanied by f-off attitude?) definitely don't recommend this place and I won't come back. read more

Delicious food and amazing views! My husband and I have been coming here for years and we are always satisfied with the entire experience. When reserving a table the last time I put in the notes for a table by window because it was my birthday celebration and they didn't have enough tables. When in Crescent City, this is my favorite place for breakfast. I have had the Crab and Shrimp Omlette befor and it was amazing but this time I juust had Ham and Eggs with Cottage Cheese and an English Muffin. Service has always been great and the Coffeee has good flavor to it. This is a must stop when in town. read more

Overall, the food was mediocre at best. The clam chowder cups were disappointing in the two cups there was only one small sliver of clam ... it was basically thick potato soup. The fish and chips were quite greasy and the ones on the plate, the batter was soggy. The southwestern French dip was supposed to have green peppers, but for some reason it was filled with pickles. One of us was served our soda, but it wasn't until our main course was served that the waitress realized the other soda had not been served. The restaurant was clean, but quite noisy. For the prices charged, the food and service should have been much better. Unfortunately, for Crescent City, the restaurant choices are rather limited. read more
