The first star is for the excellent location, the next star is for the service, and the last star is for food quality. We ordered a clam strip appetizer for $ 16.50 and got about a cup of clam strips. They were yummy, but we were super disappointed with the portion size. Our kiddos all got kids' meals which were $7.95 each and they were okay. Fish and chips were cod and pretty good, and grilled cheese was made with American cheese which isn't our thing, but still okay. The fries were okay. Clam chowder tasted as if it came out of a can. I wouldn't recommend it, except that Crescent City doesn't have a ton of options. read more

Stopped for take-out on our way back to Crescent City after driving around the Redwoods. Right now, during covid, they aren't offering a dine-in option. There's a decent sized parking lot available, and sea lions barking nearby...quite the eating seafood on the dock experience! We ended up ordering the fish and chips & scallops and chips meals. The fish was absolutely delicious! The fries were okay, needed more seasoning. The scallops were good...cooked perfectly, but I think I'm just not that into scallops ;-) The coleslaw and garlic toast was good too. We felt the portions were generous and worth the money. We paid $35 for both meals. Staff was friendly and our order was ready in about 20 minutes. Would recommend. read more

I have been wanting to try the chart room restaurant for quite some time to try their fish and chips. Finally made it there this weekend and everything was incredible! Not only was it a huge portion, the fish was also fresh, flaky and melted in my mouth. Meh...portions were small and expensive. Good service and good view of the harbor. I got New England clam and the combination platter (two shrimp, two scallops, and one small piece of cod). My wife got the French dip and again, super salty. Same server as last year, Stephanie who did a very good job. Probably won't go back since the food is mediocre. Also, if you plan on paying by credit card, they charge you an extra 3%. Not your fancy, white tablecloth seafood restaurant, which was not what I was looking for anyway.Great food, mostly fried, although I could've gotten the scallops grilled. We drove over 12 hours to visit Crescent City and upon arrival, heard many great things about this restaurant. Well our personal experience wasn't so great. We waited over an hour and half to get seated. Two people added their name to list on the bottom of the first page and came after us and were sat before us. We informed them that we had been skipped. They apologized and said we would be next. We were the last table to be sat. The waitress seemed frantic and over worked. When placing our order, everything we wanted, they ran out of. We ordered their famous claim chowder soup, and to be honest, it was luke warm, not very flavorful and had the texture like it's been there all day. The atmosphere didn't feel very inviting or comfortable. The food was okay. Not alot of flavor and not worth the price. If we ever come back to visit, we will definitely not be going back there. read more

Of the two places I had clam chowder in Crescent City this was hands down the best. The sourdough bread was fresh and the chowder had a real tasty flavor. Less of that salty taste and less of that bacon taste that I'm not a fan of , and more of the creamy potato and clam taste. The fish was a bit too greasy and soggy for our taste but I loved their fries (chips), coleslaw, and their tarter sauce was really flavorful. I was recommended that we eat at the Chart Room by a friend, and I was very pleased that we did! The food was excellent and the service was quick and friendly. It was a beautiful day and we had a lovely view of the ocean, and we were able to get some great photos of some sunbathing seals. I tried lobster bisque for the first time while here and it was fantastic! Definitely worth the little extra you can pay to "upgrade" your soup and sandwich combo from the soup being clam chowder. I ordered the half sandwich and cup of soup and I was satisfied, but the standard meal sizes are quite large and have two sides. Big appetites will be happy here! The restaurant itself is clean and well-maintained. It's a little off the beaten path of the 101, so its a little less touristy than many places. If you're in the area and looking for some good sit-down restaurant food, this is it! We'll be back the next time we make the drive up North. read more

Dined in and thoroughly enjoyed the laid-back fish restaurant vibe. My partner had an incredible half-crab sandwich, half-soup meal she liked a lot. It was fun to sit by the window and see the Sea Lions napping in the sun. I ordered the fried scallops and was disappointed that the scallops themselves tasted as if they had been cooked with nearly no seasoning. The batter was good, but after a few minutes gave way to the liquid from the scallops, leaving a goopy, watery mess of a meal. Nothing a bit of malt vinegar couldn't fix, but ultimately just wish the scallops had had a bit more flavor. Why is everything so greasy? We went here for dinner and breakfast the next day because it was very close to where we stayed and our hosts recommended it. For dinner we got the Fish n Chips which were just swimming in grease. It was clear that the oil had not been up to temp. Instead of nice and crisp battered fish, we ended up with a soggy mess. The fries were quite nice. The Crab Sandwich was quite pricey given the portion size. It wasn't bad but it was very one dimensional. The cheese actually over-powered the sweet delicate crab. I would definitely recommend a little less cheese and a splash of some acid like lemon maybe to really help that crab shine through on what has the potential to be not just a good dish but a great one. The bread however was insanely greasy. It really didn't need that much butter, definitely not to the point where instead of nice and crispy toast I'm left with soggy bread and icky fingers. The clam chowder was nice and comforting. A splash of Tabasco to cut through the richness really takes it up a notch. For breakfast we got the veggie omelette, country hash and sausage gravy. Everything tasted quite nice although, you guessed it, the has was extremely greasy. I could probably have fried a couple of eggs in the grease leftover on my plate. Overall the food has the potential to be better with some small adjustments. I'm all for good old classic diner style food and I'm not a calorie watcher by a long shot, but I really don't like excess grease to the point where it interferes with the food.
