Just moved here a few months ago and after trying a few different bagel shops along Main St. in the Madison/Chatham area, Chatham Bagels is by far the best we've had so far. It's now our go-to for soft, fresh bagels and bagel sandwiches. It has a small footprint but they're doing well with following social distancing measures as staff ensured only a few people were inside at once. They leave the door open and take orders for those in line outside also which I also found pretty efficient. Self-serve coffee station was clean and well-stocked even on a somewhat busy Saturday morning. read more

Must start this with my considering myself a bagel connoisseur .. I have been known to drive a ridiculous amount of time if I hear about a great bagel store. Chatham Bagel is one of the very best and ironically, I can walk to it! Their bagels are large and cooked perfectly. They have a great variety and even have flagels. I have tried all their spreads and one is better than the next. Even their tuna salad is way up there and I'm so picky with that! I'm a Jersey girl and I know my bagels. These are not bagels. They are bread in the shape of bagels. A bagel place in NJ, I would have thought people would know and rate accordingly. I was very disappointed to try a new bagel place for a change and find the bagels lacking. I ordered a dozen bagels.. plain, salt, everything, and a couple other things. I always try a plain bagel to decide if it's any good. As soon as I brought the bagels home and touched one, I knew immediately that I had just wasted my money on subpar bagels. My husband knew right away, as well. They were so soft that they were squishy. Good bagels are not squishy. The texture was wrong, the consistency was wrong, and the crust was wrong. People who actually want to eat real bagels: I've warned you. Stay away! read more

Live right down the street and the bagels are great but will literally never go here again. Called in an order and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes. I get there and the place is packed (on a week day) and I am staring at my order on the counter. After the employee rings up 2 other people with orders that were ready I ask if he can quickly ring me up as my order is obviously sitting there. He looks at me, LAUGHS at me and responds "honey you gotta wait. There are a lot of people ahead of you. I don't care if you ordered or not." FYI I'm also hugely pregnant. Is the management aware of how disrespectful and obnoxious their employees are? Regardless of how good the bagels are or how conveniently located this place is not worth being mocked and laughed at. read more

Was a huge fan of this bagel store when they initially opened; we needed a good bagel store. I had to knock it down to 1 star because they handled money and then the bagels without changing gloves. I thought this may have been a one time thing but unfortunately, it happened again. Not quite certain, but I believe the bagels went from being a dense bagel to a more fluffy bagel. I was told in the past that boiling determines the amount of rise. The bagels are great however, I don't plan on returning given the unsanitary practices. read more

I love this place! Great food great staff. Their bagels are fresh and good variety of spreads and sandwiches. I once saw a man forget some of his food and the manger RAN out the door to go catch him to make sure he got it. The best bagel shop in the area hands down, it blows Noah's AND Summit Bagel out of the water. I live down from the Main Street of the borough, so imagine my excitement when I found out a bagel shop was opening up right up the street from me. My mom popped in a while back to buy some spreads and said that 1. The owners are so nice and 2. The spreads AND the bagels are bomb! I went in Memorial Day weekend to get my usual (sesame bagel w/ scallion cream cheese & lox, capers and onions) and it was probably the best I've ever had. Came back in a week or 2 later, for my usual and the owners remembered me! Had a nice little chat about how I live right down the street, when the place opened all that. I've also had the iced coffee, it's so good and they offer you ice and to go cups for it too. Love love love this place and everything about it! Visit when you can. read more

Absolutely rude staff. Will never return. I call and when they actually answer the phone, they forget to make my food. The 4th time this happened I nicely brought this up to them and I was met with a very nasty shrug of the shoulders, and an "it only takes a minute". Then they tried to tell me I never called. The bagels are fine, a bit doughy, but the outside has clearly been egg washed, and that's good. One thing: they ARE NOT CHANGING GLOVES between each transaction...money, to food handling....putting bagels in bags, money, touching people.....not good. I didn't want to put her on the spot in the store, I just basically took my 10$ worth of bagels and threw them in the garbage. Excellent bagels, great Taylor Ham, egg and cheese sandwiches (you can get on a bagel, croissant,or roll), and great coffee! The employees are super friendly. I frequented this place when they first opened. The most delicious bagels! However, I pre-ordered recently. Two days in advance. Ordered a dozen. Wanted to make sure I got my salt, and that my daughter got her egg-everything. I understand that there are so many things to fret about these days. Having said that......I went to pick up my order and it wasn't ready. No problem. But I saw the woman (owner) putting in a bunch of plain bagels. I explained what I had ordered. She looked at me, annoyed, and said "we are out of salt an egg-everything. So what she did was put 8 bagels in my bag that I did not want. And she was annoyed that I noticed. I won't go back. I had people in from out of town who wanted their special bagels....not plain bagels. Sounds silly, but there it is. read more

I have been a loyal customer since Chatham Bagels opened and expected more today than nasty treatment. I was informed to call ahead to order a dozen bagels which I did. No one picked up the phone after calling 6 times within 90 minutes and there is no email contact. Then I'm told to call a day in advance to order one dozen bagels fm a store specializing in bagels!? Frankly the attitude I received today was uncalled for and made it clear you are now too busy to service loyal patrons. Disappointed in the service. read more

Our absolute go-to for bagels. The bagels themselves are delicious - fresh and warm and tasty. They are constantly coming out hot and I love that the folks who work there always let me know the ones that are still hot. There are tons of choices (including rainbow, which my kids love), and if I have to wait for a particular flavor, I am always given specific wait time. The cream cheeses are SO yummy - best veggie I can find. And finally, the staff and owners are extremely nice, often giving my little guy a mini-bagel to munch on while we wait. Chatham Bagel is absolutely awesome. Their bagels are addictive. The best in NJ. (And just an FYI.......NJ bagels are far far far better than NY bagels.) These folks have the right formula. Best bagels in the area by far! We have tried bagels from every neighborhood in Morris county and these are by far the best and basically a NY bagel (without the NY water) Bagels were hot, doughy and flavorful. Cream cheeses were also delicious. we have been waiting for a place like this for 4 years! read more

Bagels are good service is horrible. I walked in at 7:30am nobody else in the small space. Sales person asked what I needed. I usually place each bagel order at the same time and most bagel places write down the order. This guy asked for all the bagels types first. So I complied 5 different bagels. He started to put them in a bag, so I told him I'd need them toasted with spread and he waved me off and rushed me to give him the rest of the bagels I needed. When I asked for an egg bagel, he asked me if I looked at the time...I replied it's 7:30, you open at 6...he said only what you see here, which was a selection of 4 bagels (everything, plain, rainbow, and cinnamon raisin). Finally picked all the bagels, so I told him all toasted with spread, his reply "why didn't you tell me when I started putting I the bag?"...ultimately, I've ordered the same order every weekend for about 4 weeks at around the same time. Maybe it's daylight savings adjustment that has them crankier than normal but today's price for the same order was also mysteriously more expensive by $2. I asked if prices went up, he said yes and handed me my bag. Not sure I'll be coming back again. Love supporting local businesses but not when when they are nasty to their locals. I'm sure another bagel place would love to receive my $20 for 5 bagels. read more

These are some of the nicest people ever, and their bagels are fantastic. I've literally never heard anything bad about this place; my friends and I love them! Also, they've mastered bagel making. They are soft and fluffy inside, and slightly crispy on the outside. Their cream cheeses and bagel sandwiches are excellent! If I could give them six stars, I would.
