Just got to check out the soft opening of the new SGV location today! It's hard to believe it's been a year since the first Cha Tra Mue opened in LA's Chinatown -- we were so excited to try it back then. If you've been to Asia, you already know how popular this tea shop is! We'd always stop by whenever we were in the area because it's hands down our favorite tea spot. The only downside was the drive from SGV for some boba, but now that this location is right next to us, it's definitely going to be our new go-to! We noticed this SGV location has a lot more variety compared to the Chinatown spot, so we decided to try a bunch of different toppings. They've added several new fruit tea options, and we even spotted some new toppings like grass jelly and egg pudding. I've been to the original ChaTraMue in LA and tried almost all their drinks definitely yummy but a bit pricey. This time, I got the Thai green milk tea with pandan boba. The drink had a strong floral taste and pretty water down like the other comments write. I went with 100% sugar and less ice. The pandan boba was nice and chewy. Nothing too special you know what I mean? I make Thai tea using the same brand the shop has at home so I am on a bit on the fence. Sometimes it just tastes better when someone else makes it, kind of like Starbucks! You are literally just paying for the convenience instead of having to boil the tea leaves over the stove and add sugar. Would I go out of my way to get it again? In Thailand, ChaTraMue is synonymous with Thai iced tea, much like Arm & Hammer is to baking soda. They take pride in using traditional tea blends and high-quality ingredients, including premium tea leaves and authentic Thai spices. Since 1945, they've been the market leader, even supplying their tea mixes to other local shops. The shop's setup is similar to most boba shops in SGV, with tablets for ordering and tables along the wall. While it aims to present itself as a premium brand, evident from the large logo on the side of the counter, the ambiance doesn't exude the luxury sophistication of places like Chicha San Chen or Chagee. But that's perfectly fine with me. I love the friendly, laid-back vibe of Thai culture, and a snobbish atmosphere would feel out of place. The staff always have a smile when handing over my drink and let me know they can remake my drink if I'm not completely satisfied. I can't recall the last time an Asian server in SGV smiled at me. The only other time Ive have had green thai tea is 7 leaves and i'd say this is more flavorful. My only complaint is that there was a bit too much ice, so i finished the drink quickly. 100% sweetness is a tad sweet for me, but i generally order 50-70 sweetness wherever I go. Beware if you get it with no ice, it is half the cup at size LARGE. Not sure if its worth $6 for this small cup. There's a lot of places in the 626 that serve Thai tea, so I'm glad to say that this place stands out. What really separates this place above others is that their Thai Tea is sweetened with condensed milk -- because of this you can adjust the sweetness without really affecting the flavor of the Thai tea base. Many other shops use pre-sweetened Thai tea and adjust the sugar by adding / removing the amount of half and half, which can really ruin the ratio and overall flavor. Because this place uses condensed milk however, you can still really taste the strong tea flavor despite making some adjustments! I tried it at 75% sugar and it was excellent. For some reason, their Rosemead location offers the standard additional cost to make their drinks in a large cup ($1 more) while their LA location calls it the "Tea Lover's Upgrade" where you basically are already given a large cup but you pay an extra dollar or so for less ice. Not sure why they're different but just something to note if you've only previously been to the LA location. Service was friendly. There's a lot of small tables with outlets and wifi so it might be a good place to study on a weekday. read more

This is their 2nd store and its located next to shinsengumi ramen in rosemead. A welcome addition to SGV and now we dont have to drive to LA. I tried a few drinks and I liked how creamy the original thai tea is compared to other boba shops and pho restaurants. The egg pudding and grass jelly are both silky and smooth and had great texture.
