I had a friend in from out of town and we were looking for some breakfast while in Santa Monica. As a vegan any time I find a place that has vegan pastries, I'm in absolute HEAVEN!! I wanted to try ALL the options, but there were way too many to choose from - a GREAT problem to have! It's a good thing the young lady behind the counter was so patient with me. I was pretty hungry so I got the "just egg" and "cheese" croissant. But I also had a sweet tooth (yup, I'm greedy lol). I landed on the apricot roll (like a cinnamon roll, but with apricot and it was amazing! It was flaky and chewy (in the best way possible) in all the right places. I washed it all down with a very tasty lavender latte. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The cafe is super cute inside and comfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I wish we could have spent more time there. They didn't have many vegan options at the time I got there, about an hour and half before. That's fine and understandable. I got vegan plain croissant and a chai latte. The latte was good, the croissant was a kind of dry and nothing crazy. The staff however give off a weird vibe. Had a sensational experience at this relatively new and extraordinary bakery/restaurant! The pastries are some of the finest I've ever tasted and they make an awesome burrito among other things. I wish I could recommend this place, but our lunch was a bit of a mess. Four of us arrived on a weekday around 1:30 and ordered salads for our entrees as well as two desserts to share. It was pretty quiet when we got there. Just a few other tables. Here's what's good. There's free parking in the garage. The desserts are pretty. The staff is very sweet. They have covered (shady / protected from drizzle) outdoor seating. Here's what went wrong. It was SO SLOW to get our food. I mean, this place is right near a bunch of businesses in Santa Monica, and people who are in the middle of a workday have limited time for lunch. I was shocked by how slow it was. Also, our food didn't all come out at once. (There were four of us) Two people's meals came out at first...then after a while a third person's came...and then after a much longer while, the fourth salad came. It was really frustrating. And then one person's salad had been made with the wrong dressing. The staff was super nice and offered to re-make it...but that took like 20 minutes. So at that point, we needed to leave and had to box it up. Also asked for a bit more salad dressing (for another person) and that also took about 20 minutes. I think the staff was generally trying hard, but it was clear that they were totally understaffed. Unfortunately, because of that understaffing situation, I will never return, because I never want a repeat of that experience. As for the food, my Za'taar Chicken Salad was good. Not extraordinary. The salad itself was very simple. But the chicken on top was tasty. We tried two desserts--the rum raisin roll and the olive cake. Unexpectedly, I preferred the rum raisin roll. read more

Very cute cafe with good food and drinks and wonderful presentation. One star off for very noisy door, and one more off for staff cleaning floor and spraying tables with cleaning solution with very strong chemical smell. I hope they can fix these issues to improve. read more

Sadly these croissants were pretty disappointing. Chewy, too thick, and undercooked. We had a chocolate croissant & a plain. Maybe the beautifully colored ones are good? Will try next time as they are gorgeous. read more

Chaumont has several delicious vegan options and the location is adorable. Definitely recommend.

The salmon bowl, guava cheese croissant, and pain suisse were all delicious. The almond croissant was either having a bad day or it's just not their forté - it was very chewy. Their croissants in general is not quite as flaky as I would like it but they're very kind, ambiance is nice, it's one of very few options in the area, and salmon bowl is worth every expensive dollar so I will keep returning. read more

Ambiance is pretty chill inside. Warm and inviting. Cozy but not too small.Service is polite. The courtyard looks like it could be good. More plants and lights. Maybe some comfier chairs and umbrella tables would make it more inviting. It's nice that they have one, though. Vegan croissants were bussin'. I enjoyed 4/5 of mine. Love that they have vegan options. The pistachio one which I thought was really going to enjoy was strangely the one I liked least. I thought it was going to be more of a pistachio cream like the almond ones but it was more of a pudding than a paste. It was a little disappointing on that one but they were all pretty good. Tried the croissant and all I can say it's one step up from a frozen variety maybe because it was not done and quite doughy not flaky at all. I loved the vegan mozzarella & olive croissant that I got! The croissant pastry was wonderfully crispy, flaky and buttery, and the mozzarella was really impressive. I'm kind of picky with vegan mozzarella and I did not detect any weird flavor whatsoever! Sorry that there's no picture, I devoured it like a beast, it was too delicious. I also thoroughly enjoyed the vegan pistachio croissant. It was beautiful and filled with this delightful, light and not overly sweet pistachio cream. This time, the croissant pastry was pretty different from the aforementioned savory one - it was softer like bread and not as crispy/flaky, but still very enjoyable. I wonder if it's because of the cream on the inside, or if it's a slightly different recipe? The whole thing tastes a little more like a cream horn than a croissant, but I'm not mad. I thought I could slice off a piece and save the rest for later, but it was so delicious that I couldn't stop. I'm excited to try more of their pastries the next time I'm in! The space is lovely, bright, clean and whimsically decorated. Looks like a really pleasant place to enjoy a coffee and croissant and a book. I went to the Santa Monica location for the first time last Thursday 08/17. My friend and I got there at 2:50pm. When we found out they close at 3pm , of course we had everything to go. The lady who took our order was so extremely rude that was embarrassing. She was doing everything is such a rush that was very disrespectful to us and to whoever hired her. She started cleaning putting the pastries away in such a violent way that croissants were falling from the tray and she was literally throwing everything in the trash with anger. My friend and I really thought of asking for our money back and just leave. I looked at the lady and said wow.. you're really doing everything very fast. And she without apologizing for her rudeness, just said without even looking at us... -"it's been a long day!!" I understand everyone has they bad days.. but you cannot treat customers like that. The pastries were okay, we didn't have the chance to ask to warm up our croissants bc of her anger, but we will never coming back! No one deserve to be disrespected like that. read more

First of all, I have to say that this place is a revelation. It is so hard to find good, vegan baked goods that I'm just so grateful it exists. The ham and cheese croissant and olive pizza were absolutely outstanding. However, I was disappointed at the amount of filling in the strawberry croissants and the apricot vanilla twists. there was just a hint of jam in these treats and it left me feeling unsatisfied. The filling in the orange chocolate croissant was plentiful but the filling was bitter and tasted like it had absolutely no sugar in it. I'm sure the point is that it has no sugar so that you can combine it with the sweetness of the glaze on top but tasting it on its own was not great. The pain suisse has so much potential but when you bite into it you barely taste the sweetness. I ended up peeling off several layers of the croissant just to get to the sweetness of the custard but even that didn't have much sweetness. I'm sure I come from the land of over sweetening everything and perhaps Chaumont believes in subtlety but I walked away craving more fillings and more sweetness which I didn't find in the pastries. read more

Great new addition to Santa Monica. I've been to their excellent Beverly Hills location, so I was excited to hear they were coming to Samo. They have traditional and vegan choices, plus the baker/owner was here to describe her wares. Since I'm not vegan I opted for the French butter croissant. It was crispy with layers and that French butter flavor. The chocolate one was even better. Most highly recommend. I might even try the vegan ones next time, made with olive oil read more
