But when I started working at our business in the early 90's I took vehicles to the dealers for service because of closer proximity to the Lynnhaven Mall area. Because I was programmed to this by decades of previous behavior, I continued to do so after I retired. Lately my experiences with the different dealer service departments haven't been good. They've been short staffed with younger, less knowledgeable Service Advisors who haven't yet learned the niceties of good customer service. And it's been impossible to get an appointment in a reasonable length of time. A friend had a friend in the Shore Drive corridor who said he had a great place. Upon inquiring it turned out to be Bayside Tire & Auto. So that was my choice. When I called for a State Inspection I was shocked when they quoted an appointment in just a few days. I could leave the vehicle the afternoon before & pick it up when finished. The person taking the call asked if I had been there before. I told him "Yes, but it's been a long time." The response was that I wasn't in their computer. Later I remembered that there had been no internet in the latter half of the 80's. We had a good laugh about this when I picked up the vehicle. Early the next morning David called me & said I needed a brake light & front light replaced. I knew about those two issues & thanked him for taking care of problems I had forgotten about. There was no trying to upsell, no windshield wiper blades, no tire rotation & no suggestions of expensive fluid flushes to drive up the cost. It was quick, simple & priced reasonably. On the way home from dropping the vehicle off I experienced a frightening problem with my other vehicle. When I got home (Wheeew....) I got out the owners manual to see what the Warning Light meant. I told David about this when he called about the first vehicle. He told me we could swap vehicles. They would read the error code with their diagnostic computer & we could go from there. It turned out to be bad news. I would have to take the car to the dealer for the problem. When I arrived to pick up the car I was presented with a receipt which detailed the error code & what it meant. The amazing thing was the invoice was for $0.00. In a surprised voice I said to the counter person "He didn't charge me?" With a smile the response he gave was "No". This amazing place is owned by the same family that owned it in the late 80's. I remembered a son of theirs going to school with my stepson, who is in his late 40's. For this writer who doesn't like change, it was awesome to find a place that hasn't changed. The location is on the north side of Shore Drive, a short distance east of the last exit from Northampton Boulevard before the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. If I could give Bayside Tire & Auto 10 Stars I would. They are that good & honest in today's world where that rarely is the case.

I don't know about that across the board, but my 2010 Hyundai Accent was a great deal. I have had two issue happen with my car since its purchase. The first was when my spare key came in from the Hyundai Mother Ship. We tried it out and it got stuck in the ignition! Samantha, in their service dept., immediately got me a rental and called a locksmith to look at it the next day. My car was fixed up that next day too, the locksmith had to re-cut part of the key. My second issue was when my car suddenly didn't start one day after work. I took a panicked trip in the tow truck to Drivers World where they got me a loaner car that night. They called me in the morning and told me it was the starter. I returned my loaner and they got me a rental; a few days later I picked up my car from Checkered Flag Hyundai.
