I took my wife to dinner about 7pm. We were promptly greeted by the host and seated at a booth in the bar area. Our server greeted us and took our food and beverage order. After about 15 minutes the bartender started making our drinks. She poured my beer and then she was confused on my wife's Sangria, so she went to ask how to make it. Our server brings my beer over and says they are working on your drink but I need to let you know the kitchen messed up your entree's and it will be a little while longer. All this while the Manager is hanging out at another booth that has a small child. I think it was her parents and her child. The Denton location is unfortunately disappointing for many reasons. #1 - The food is usually cold when it arrives at your table #2 - The regularly run out of items on the menu #3 - The waitstaff is just unfriendly. We sat for another 25 minutes and not one person came to take our order much less acknowledged our presence. There were several tables that needed busing. This restaurant gets a 5 because of the amazing customer service. We had a group of 12 come and the whole team went above and beyond to make dinner a success. Typically I'm not a huge fan of franchise restaurants but this cheddars has good food and was quick to resolve any issues. I had the buffalo chicken wrap and it was like the cheddars I used to remember from years ago. It was huge. They basically give you two for one entree. Of course those honey butter croissants are to die for and basically dinner donuts. Yes please!! Super unimpressed with this place, and even more so having been a Darden employee at a different restaurant. It's painfully obvious that the staff has very little desire to provide even mediocre service. My family and I dined today at 3:30pm. We asked for a table and were told it would be 5-10 minutes for a booth and "a while" for an actual table. The hostess clarified that it would be 15-20 minutes for a table, so we waited. She wasn't completely unfriendly but didn't make the effort to even pretend to smile or give us a warm greeting. It seemed a little strange that we even had to wait that long, when they didn't appear to be busy. I also thought it was odd that with every guest that entered, the hostess didn't ask for anyone's name, nor did she write anything down. Granted if there aren't many people waiting, then asking for the "party of 2" is fine, but it adds that nice personalized touch to make the effort in asking for a name. After waiting for about 15 minutes, the hostess told us that it would still be a longer wait for an actual table, unless we were ok with a half booth, half table. We were fine with that, as we didn't want to keep waiting. We were told who would be was our server (name withheld) and he arrived shortly after. He was very nice but definitely has potential to grow. Our beverage glasses remained empty for quite some time; it took an eternity to receive the blue cheese dressing that my dad had wanted for his salad, so we asked another server; we didn't think we were ever going to get the BBQ sauce that came with the hamburger my mom ordered, so I got up and asked a server coming out of the kitchen; our receipt was incorrect, as the drinks were on it as full price, instead of $1, so our server said a manager had to make the adjustment; and overall, it was just the slowest service ever. For a restaurant that just opened, you would think that everyone would have been trained pretty well, but it almost seemed that no one knew what they were doing and didn't care. I will say that the food was very good, and we all enjoyed our orders, but good grief, I would have almost rather had great service and mediocre food than vice versa. If you go to this cheddars you HAVE to request Alyssa to be your waitress. She took care of my family last Saturday night (there was about 14 of us) and she was so sweet and so caring. She was AWESOME, best server we've ever had. Our drinks never reached half empty and we constantly had fresh napkins. She made sure all of our food was super tasty and we were all happy campers. Seriously Alyssa made my two boys birthday incredible. She even sent a manager over with little cookies so my kids had a second dessert on top of their cake. We will request her every time we come in so I highly suggest everyone else does the same. I stopped in here for a late lunch on a Thursday. The lunch crowd was already gone so I was seated quickly. The waiter was super nice and friendly. I ordered the Wisconsin Cheese Bites for an appetizer and they were basically fried cheese curds, but I was impressed with the lightness and crispiness of the batter used and really enjoyed them. I then had the Bourbon Glazed Pork Chop which was a very thick bone-in chop that was juicy and so extra tasty with the fantastic glaze on it. I ordered a Monte Cristo sandwich. It was well made and included raspberry jam on the side. It was good, but I would have liked a more spicy version of the raspberry jam. The best Monte Cristo's I've had are a mixture of spicy and sweet. This was all sweet with not enough contrast between saltiness of the ham and the sweetness of the batter. Mark G. Was an excelled server. We honestly received excelled service all around! I came in with a group of my friends (deaf and hearing alike), and we just received the most hospitable welcome. The gentleman taking my order was so patient with us-- we absolutely adored the food; as we do have a Cheddar's back home in Louisiana. The service we received here was absolutely amazing. I can't say it enough. I believe that the hostess staff and Mark G. should really be commended for how they handled their interactions with us. The food and service was good/OK. Prices are now steep but that seems to be everywhere these days. We always judge our wait service by whether or not we'd A) return to the restaurant due to its food/service but mostly B) Whether we'd request this same waiter/waitress again and we definitely would. The main issue that removes at least a one-star rating is the noise level. We've been to the Cheddar's Denton, TX location approximately 5 times and each time the piped in music is at least three times louder than it needs to be and this is coming from a 1970s rocker! One needs to yell to be heard over their music and we all finally ate in "silence" because there's zero chance of a conversation, but the noise level is further increased by all the tables trying to yell above the music! We complain each time and have gotten a feeble excuse about how this 100 dB level is controlled by corporate and nothing is done. We like other restaurants in this area as well but we like to take our aged father out and talk to him and catch up. This is absolutely impossible with Cheddar's! read more
