He's a GREAT server, just a bit louder than most. Very attentive and super spot on with recommendations. I would ask for him if you go. The atmosphere in the restaurant is pleasant. There are cool decorative features to check out. The food was good! I got a half rack of ribs and the meat was falling off the bones. The mashed potatoes were very good and the broccoli cheese casserole was yummy! My fiancé got the Monte Cristo sandwich, based on a recommendation first from my best friend and next from Travis. Check out the menu for the details on this unique dish. My fiancé enjoyed it, but wasn't expecting it to have so much batter, so there was a bit more than he preferred. Cheddars is always a delightful dining experience. We went Sunday afternoon expecting to wait forever to be seated and were seated immediately. We ordered the Spinach Artichoke dip which was amazing, Fresh chips and the salsa had good flavor. We also ordered Chicken pot pie which is always a favorite go to and as always did not disappoint. And then the Monte Cristo with Black beans. The Black Beans were a surprise with how the flavors blended and the freshness of the Pico de Gallo.... So good!! Service was awesome... The Cheddar's I use to eat at in Beaumont,Tx was amazing, this Dothan,Al location is not. We won't be eating here again which makes me very sad. I loved the spinach dip, chicken tenders, and heavenly mashed potatoes but the staff at this Cheddars is horrible!!!! My husband and I first tried this location last year, a few months after it opened. My husband ordered a beef pot roast dish (they now no longer serve) and it clearly was a pork roast. We asked our server about it and he argued it was not. We decided we'd wait a while before trying to eat here again, maybe they'd get a new manager or something. We ate an early dinner today, Oct 31, 2014, at around 4pm. First issue was my husbands drink...peach tea that tasted like pure peach syrup. He asked to get a regular sweet tea (after maybe 3 sips of the peach) and we were still charged for the fruit tea. There was hardly any customers there and yet my husbands mashed potatoes were served cold and then was asked by our server to "scrape them onto a side plate" so she could show the manager. I don't really eat out in my home area. This Cheddar's visit in Dothan. I must say I was quite disappointed. My first impression of this restaurant was very nice as the building is quite new and really quite gorgeous for what it is. After dealing with a hostess with too much makeup and really very little regard for if we were there or not. I was starting to get the vibe that we were in for another experience of hype rather than a solid meal. Unfortunately my bad feeling about this place was confirmed. When I first came up on this restaurant in Dothan, my group were really ready for a great experience and with an honest wholesome sounding name like Cheddars Scratch Kitchen. I didn't think we would go too wrong. Most of my group ordered steaks of one size or another as most of us were sports guys who wanted a basic steak and potato. I saw the Potato selection said it was a "Loaded Baked Potato" and with a name like Cheddar's. I thought we were in for a seriously loaded treat! I asked our waitress who like the hostess seemed to have little interest in being there let alone serving us with any level of quality about what "Loaded Baked Potato" meant ? She replied it was loaded with cheese. I asked about bacon and she said, that was not included. I immediately began thinking hmmm? I went ahead and ordered this "Loaded Baked Potato" hoping this was just another case of poor salesmanship on her part. Unfortunately most of my group were really quite disappointed when our meals eventually came out after a fairly decent wait. I was most interested in this mysterious "Loaded Baked Potato" that I was thinking about and the "Loaded" part turned out to only be what I would describe as a "pinch of cheese" roughly the size of the END of an average persons thumb. I directly asked the waitress when our food was delivered. "This is a "Loaded Baked Potato"? and she assured us it was as we began to eat what was really a most flavorless meal by almost any standards as this opinion was pretty much unanimous among our group. My group began to realize. None of us had any bread with our meals. We eventually found and inquired with our less than enthusiastic waitress about our lack of bread and she informed us that bread was not included with our meals. I am thinking at this point. Wow, the "Loaded Baked Potato" a flavorless meal and not even a piece of bread of any type! I began to think about this most wholesome sounding name of "Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen" as I feel a name like this should stand for some real creativity and what came out on our table felt like less than a meal on a pretty bad food buffet. I am just thinking wow, what happened? What did I miss here ? After our most disappointed group finished our most basic and really quite flavorless meals. We were presented our check and I realized that as I was studying our check to insure accuracy as I was growing more suspicious of this place by the minute, I realized I never received a refill on my beverage during my entire meal here and only 2 of our 7 people even received a refill at all. I can say with certainty that my good expectations were really most unfortunately deflated I guess along with the hype that many have been buzzing about over this restaurant. Yes it certainly is very a pretty restaurant. I am afraid to share in my opinion, this is where the beauty came to an abrupt end and the unfortunate true reality of our visit set in. I began to remember our hostess with too much makeup and began to think that perhaps this entire restaurant really just had too much makeup and no real substance! I would have really probably given this place 1 star. I must admit they have made a significant investment in their restaurant for what Appears SHOULD be a good dining experience. Unfortunately our experience fell far short of this goal and I kept remembering that old saying about "Don't Judge a Book By It's Cover" as the cover looked great! The Restaurant Facility itself I will give a solid 4 Stars as it is very nice and was really the best part of our visit. This is why in my own opinion, it earned a final actual 2 star rating when all is said and done as one does not actually eat the actual physical restaurant building itself, but merely the food it serves as this is supposed to not only be edible, but enjoyable. The food was good, but there were three of us at the restaurant. One of the orders never came.The waiter told us he couldn't figure out what happened, went back to the kitchen, then came back and told us they couldn't get it to me for a while because they had frozen shrimp. After waiting longer he came back and told us he wasn't sure how long it would take and I could order something else or decline the meal so I declined the meal. One of the members of our party had a membership and was supposed to receive chips and dip. The waiter told her she hadn't had her membership long enough to get the number she needed to get the chips. The waiter said he would talk to the manager and see what he could do. I tried to take my grandson to lunch yesterday wish I could say that it was a pleasant visit I cant say that the food was bad or even the drinks as after waiting 34 minutes was never served anything. While the couple that was seated in the same section just before me not only got their drinks they received a plate of rolls while waiting for their appetizer all of which they got before I was even asked for a simple drink. I watched a lady who was dealing with the to go orders and the bar ask repeatedly for help she was working so hard and was left to drown with no help. While the waitresses around her watched and would not help but were quick to talk about her behind her back and saying that she was tripping and flipping out. I do not know who the manager is but you are incompetent and ignorant in your ability to run any food establishment. Your staff is poorly trained and does not work together equally. Your staff and the issues within a waitress that was as bad as the ones I saw yesterday tells me that either you were put in charge to fill a quota or the company as a whole needs to go into another line of work. When my party of 6 arrived to the restaurant, we were told there would be a 30-45 minute wait. After waiting almost 2 hours, we asked if our table was almost ready. We were seated a couple minutes later. We sat at our table for almost 20 minutes and still no one had come to get our drink orders. Over half of the restaurant was cleared and we overheard the staff talking about how the waiters just didn't want to take anymore tables. We got there at 6:00 pm. There was no reason for for the service to be this level of bad. I'm a waitress and I completely understand getting busy and being overwhelmed, but that's not the case here. Workers were talking at tables nearby, while other workers were just standing around watching people and not doing anything. I tried to be understanding, but this was just unacceptable. Server was fairly new, but that was okay because we weren't in a hurry. When food was brought out I noticed right away that the pasta around the outside was cold but that in the middle was fine. It was only when I cut a piece of the chicken inside the dish that I realized that one side of the chicken was completely raw. The dish had shrimp, sausage and chicken but it was the raw chicken that alarmed me. I chose not to have it re-prepared and told the manager who was quite friendly that 'you only get one opportunity to make a first impression' and that I wouldn't be back. I got to Cheddars about 7:30pm tonight. I told the hostess I'll seat at the bar. I was seating at the bar. The bartender spoke and kept on with what she was doing. I was seating there for 10 minutes, the bartender never came over to see if I wanted something to drink or if I wanted to order dinner. So I got up and went back to the hostess and ass to be seated at a table. And she wanted to seat me at a table in the bar area. Then I asked the hostess I can seat at the back section to the right or the section across from the hostess stand. No this section are closed, at 7:45 Over have of the restaurant is closed off. So the hostess put me at a table in the bar area, so I seat there for 5 minutes and no one looks my way, so I stay there for about 2 more minutes. Then I get up and start to leave, the hostess came to me and I told her no one wanted to wait on me. She asked if I wanted to talk to a manager and I said no. I told her I was going to McDonlad's across the parking lot, to get dinner. I'm a truck driver and I have been wanting to at the Cheddars in Dothan. But I want be back here again. Took over an hour to get our food. Waitress only came to bring us our water and coffee once during that entire time. When food arrived, all three dishes were cold. Mashed potatoes had actually hardened they were left out so long. After asking for the manager, we decided to get up and leave because she took so long to to get to our table. We were ignored. Restaurant was not busy. It was a Tuesday night. We caught the manager on our way out and she was patronizing and did not offer anything to rectify her employees mistakes. I wish the place would have told me how unwelcome I was in the restaurant right when I entered the door; that would have saved me the time and trouble and not too mention the terrible experience of dining here. They came out to us in itty bitty crunched up bits - you know like you get at the VERY bottom of a bag of chips - 1/4's , 1/8th's and smaller sizes of a chip - like maybe they crushed them first before bringing them out. Then we waited .. and finally our server came out with some real chips. I had ordered the Ribeye Medium Rare with a Caesar Salad and of course the Croissant to go with it. The Caesar salad came out - well first the Croissant was on top of the salad and it was smooshed down - so in the low level lighting I was thinking it was a piece of chicken - but to my surprise nope it was just a smooshed down croissant on the top of the Caesar salad !!! Well I know I have been calling it a Caesar here but sadly it was not; it was simply Caesar dressing flavored with some lettuce (I am not kidding - I wish I was but I have to be honest ). Then we waited some more time .. My Ribeye which I had ordered medium rare came out to me ..with out the baked potato I ordered with it and the steak was Well Done .. yes Well Done!!! So everyone else at the table had their meals in front of them (well my wife did not have what she ordered - the beans were missing). Her food was cold - just above room temperature for the most part others well the beans when they came the bowl was warm.. My daughters pasta - well she had sauce to cover four noodles and the pasta was cold. My sons well at 5 with a burger and fries .. he did not seem that enthused. I did not taste his fries - they looked over done. I did not taste the burger it looked cold .. and he had no problems picking it up just like it was. So after every one else had their meals and finished what they had .. the server brings out the replacement steak for me .. with my baked potato. Everyone's food was luke cold!!! - just warm enough to say it was not in a refrigerator! So did I feel unwelcome YES. Did I feel Ripped Off YES. Did I feel like I wasted time YES. I try to compliment when they are due and I don't ask for refunds and if offered do not take them - I leave it be - but in this case I think they should refund me and I would accept that. As someone who has traveled extensively eating out over 180 days a year for years on end , there are only 3 really bad experiences dining out that I can remember having and this one is a bad experience at the top of that list. Cheddar's is very clean, cozy, and interesting on the inside. It has a nice freshwater cichlid tank and an interesting fan overhead. It is dark enough to be somewhat romantic if you don't mind having only a 3 foot walkway between your booth and the next. The food was also decent. My lemon pepper chicken was pretty standard, my wife's chicken dish (don't remember the name) was also "pretty good." The santa fe spinach dip appetizer was amazing and I recommend it to anyone. It's near the size of an entree and only cost $5. Our problem was with the service, and there was a plethora of things. Upon entering, we told the hostess we would like a table for 3 with one highchair (we brought our 11 month old). She looked awkwardly at our son and I immediately got the feeling that maybe they don't allow children in their establishment. Before I could ask, she said to wait one second and walked off with a concerned look on her face. She returned with another host, and we heard her say under hushed breath "I don't want to ask her!" to the new arrival. At this point I got the impression that a certain server doesn't like serving families with children. This is just my assumption, but I must say it was pretty awkward and made us feel a little unwanted. Anyhow, the new host took charge and got us seated in a booth. My second issue was the lack of silverware and napkins. We didn't receive this until 3 minutes AFTER we received our entree. Our server (Shannon) took our drink order, brought the drinks, took our food order, brought an alcoholic beverage, and stopped to ask about our appetizer (5 visits) and didn't notice that we had no silverware or napkins. Mind you we are eating with our hands (chips and dip) and using our baby wipes to clean our hands at this point. We received our entrees from a young man (skinny teenager with a creepy pencil mustache), and at this point I ask him if we can please have some utensils and napkins. He hardly acknowledged what I said, aside from mumbling something and looking at me. Three minutes pass as I watch our food getting colder, and finally I just get up and find the first employee I can and ask again. This time we were successful and received something to actually eat with. The final issue was the 15 minute period between our appetizer and entree that we didn't see our server at all. My wife went this whole time with an empty water glass during her meal. I understand that the waitstaff takes breaks, but generally someone covers down on their table during this time which definitely didn't happen. My wife and I are about as laid back as it comes, and there isn't much that bother us. I can't remember the last time we had half as much to complain about, let alone all these issues compounded in one simple late lunch stop. Not all Cheddars are created equal! My wife and I came here for dinner and ordered the fish tacos with a salad and a steak with baked potato. The steak was ordered as medium-well and came out medium rare. It was sent back to the kitchen to be re-cooked; when it came out, the outside was scorched but the inside was still red. They really need to turn their grill down. I never received the salad and my wife asked for ranch dressing for the potato and we never got that either. As for the fish tacos, it was like an entire fried catfish stuffed in a small tortilla. Way too big for a taco. I have ordered this same item many times at a different location and the size of the fish was appropriate for the size of the tortilla. The salad was still on the bill and we had to have it taken off. Not to mention the inside of the restaurant was icy cold. First and last time at this location! read more

This time, we planned right and stopped in for a late lunch. I got the grown up grilled cheese and I'd order than every time. The menu is great and had lots of options that I wanted to choose. My husband ordered the chicken fingers, and he loved them. The staff was really nice and helpful. We had to wait for about 8-10 minutes before they came to get our drink orders, but when she brought our drinks, she also brought an order of their honey croissants on the house due to our wait. It appears that the employees should be educated on the meaning of the restaurant name, as well as some pointers in customer service. Our waiter was very pleasant, but I observed a couple very unfriendly female waitresses, and the hostess was actually rude. Our food was sub-average and reminded me of Golden Corral. This is our second time stopping at this cheddars to have a late lunch. The chicken tenders were so small and fried too hard they were like leather. We have eaten at other cheddars across the country, And have never had this problem. We will probably not stop at this cheddars again. Horrible service from opening day. My husband and I have eaten here many times since then with understanding new establishments will usually have some kind of issues. But they have been open well over a year or 2 and we are not coming back. We got the worst kind of food poisoning & with a newborn at home we were not well enough to take care of ourselves let alone a newborn baby. Good job at being the worst restaurant in Dothan. Always bad service and after waiting hours to eat (everytime) just for it to make us sick. I'm steering clear of this place!
