Haven't visited a Cheddar's for years, since long before they rebranded as a "scratch kitchen". We felt, however, not much had significantly changed: while the service was fine, the food and drinks were just OK. We had the Dijon chicken (way, way too salty) and the Key West shrimp and chicken (my spouse said, "meh".) Of particular note for me and so many others with a shellfish allergy, is that Cheddar's fails to have a separate fryer for the shrimp and other shellfish; this precludes ordering *anything* fried at all - fries, onion rings, chicken tenders, etc. That means 3/4 of their menu is off limits. Many conscientious restaurants now have separate fryers, and I guess I will stick to them in the future. read more

This was the first time we had been in the Port Charlotte. Very nice decor, huge fish take by entrance with fresh water chilids. Was very clean inside. Our waiter was very nice and answered any of our questions we had. We received 2 complimentary honey butter croissants. They were good, but a little sweet for my taste. We ordered fried chicken strips with a steak $19.99, and I had the key west chicken and shrimp $15.49. Food came out fast. Was very good. Two other people and I went to this Cheddar's for lunch after leaving the airport. Two of us were starving, and this experience didn't help. To start off, the hostess was very rude. I requested to sit under their paddle fans and she gave me a face and did not speak to us at all. When we were seated, it took about 20 minutes for our food to come. When I got my pasta that supposedly had tomato sauce on it, they gave me barely any sauce. It wasn't enough to cover a single noodle! Let alone the entire oversized portion of pasta! So naturally, I asked for more sauce, and it took like 10 minutes to bring the sauce plus the other ten it took for us to get the waiters attention! When they finally brought my sauce, my pasta was cold, so they warmed it up, and it took another five centuries. When my pasta was finally ready to eat, it sucked. The noodles were fine, and the sauce was very runny and bland. Our waiter was the main culprit. He disappeared for half of the meal, was not fast AT ALL, and he didn't bring some of the things we asked him for. Needles to say it didn't fill me up, the service was terrible, and I would not recommend going unless you want to wait 45 minutes to eat garbage. read more

Water is not refilled,condiments not brought to the table, but the normal, where they try to make up at the end of the meal by saying something nice. It was a little bit too late for us. We did tip we always do no matter what, but it was a standard, 15% and we were a little grouchy about it. Will we go back, absolutely! One of the worse experiences I have had in a while. I had lunch with 2 friends. One received the wrong beverage. One simply ordered a caesar salad with grilled shrimp. The salad was so over-saturated with dressing that she couldn't eat it. My "medium" burger seemed like it was cooked for 30 seconds on each side. Under seasoned and undercooked. Also, the sauteed onions were cooked with the inedible outer skin, so I was like biting into a strip of plastic. The server did take the drink and burger off of the check, but despite multiple issues, we never saw a manager. The server didn't even offer a recook on my burger. I had the chicken fingers and fries basket. It was great. The chicken was very crispy and you got a good portion size. Husband had the country fried steak. It was a very large portion. The Cheddar's location in St Pete used to be one of our go-to's for a hearty home-style meal, so our expectations were high. And met! The place was spotlessly clean. And our server (Hey, Joe!) was amazing, attentive, and really helpful. The food is OK; much better than average for chain restaurant food. (I'm looking at you, Ruby Tuesday, Red Lobster, Applebee's and Chili's) We usually have a salad because they're priced right, fresh, and ample. And the honey-butter croissants are so so good. I'm pleased because usually when we stop at a chain / franchise sit-down restaurant we come away wondering why we made that decision. But Cheddar's is always no regrets. read more

Sunday at Cheddar's was my time to dine. I was greeted and seated right away. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with potatoes and green beans. To drink I ordered ice tea. The chicken was not on point unfortunately and I was disappointed , partly because I was hungry and partly because I heard this place has good food. Even the ice tea was somewhat diluted. The quality of the food was lacking and I only give this place 3 stars due to the efficient service. I'm not sure if I'll dine here again. Ohhh and I had the lunch portion which was one chicken breast as opposed to the dinner portion which offers two chicken breast. Good thing I did not order the double sized dinner portion or I would have been doubly disappointed. These chicken breast were rather small in size and not the size of the chicken fried chicken I'm accustomed to eating at places like Cracker Barrel for instance. I was also seated really quickly, and my food was served within 5-10 minutes (which can be a bad sign, but I appreciated on this occasion because I was in a rush). I stopped into Cheddar's on a road trip passing through Ft. Myers. My boyfriend is a big fan and demanded we stop on the way home. I will admit I was a little hesitant given the reviews that seemed to flux from really good to bad, but was pleasantly surprised with the service and my meal! Our server was attentive to our table, getting us drinks right away and taking our food orders. We started with the croissants, super moist and flakey and topped with a drizzle of honey butter. I mean they were good but I would consider them a slight step up from Pillsbury. I got the blacked salmon salad for lunch and opted for the honey lime dressing instead of the listed pomegranate. I think it paired much better. The salmon was perfectly cooked and comes with another croissant...clearly wasn't skipping the carbs that day! The salmon was on the small size, but I suppose I can chalk that up to a lunch portion so it worked for me! The candied pecans were also amazing!! Hard to screw up a salad, but the salmon made it all and it was yummy! My boyfriend got the steak and chicken strips platter. The strips were definitely hand battered, crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. The steak was also cooked very well. This is the reason why I am giving this establishment the three stars. One of the reasons that attracted us to this restaurant was that this is a scratch kitchen. As a foody I will usually choose a restaurant where everything is made from scratch whenever I can. I ordered the Monte Christo sandwich that comes fried in batter. this poor sandwich was all better with barely any ingredients inside. It was greasy and unappetizing. My husband also ordered the onion rings, we had to send them back because they were cold and stale. Our kind waitress brought us a second batch that was hot and tasteless. What a great place! A variety of items covering appetizers, comfort foods, cocktails,steaks, ribs, chicken seafood desserts etc. This was the first time that my hubby and I had been here. The hostess was really sweet. She greeted us with a beautiful smile. We sat in the bar area where Teresa and Mike took really good care of us. Mike was very pleasant and knowledgeable. For drinks, my son has strawberry lemonade (yummy) and I had a Long Island (good & strong). For entrees he had the full rack of ribs (fries & coleslaw) and I had the New Orleans Pasta. His ribs were good but my pasta was very salty.
