First of all, I came here 4 years ago for my graduation dinner and had a horrific experience. So I swore to never come back, but a friend told me we should try it again. We were sat and no one spoke to us for 15 minutes and I had to personally get up and ask for a waiter. Honestly, given these clowns, three stars is being generous.... And I'm being nice about that because their food is fairly consistent. The biggest problem with Cheddars is they need to open more than one of them in the Little Rock area on special occasions the places are literally bombarded. I went in there to buy my mother a $25 gift card for Mother's Day and I went in the evening around 5 PM wound up sitting up waiting 10 minutes to get a gift card and the server it was absolutely clueless. And even though they were busy and I was taking that into account, she thought I was gonna wait an extra 15 to 20 minutes while the manager decided to get off his posterior and come and issue me a new gift card. We ate at this location on Sunday (5/19/2019) and I absolutely cannot stop raving about our food and server. Our server Andre was the best waiter we have had in a long time. He was attentive but not overbearing. It's like he knew what we needed before we did. My husband got the Philly sandwich and was impressed with the fact it had whole mushrooms and not just sliced up mushrooms like he's gotten from other restaurants. I got the chicken fried chicken and it was honestly the best! I also got the spiked cherry limeade and it tasted amazing(strong and sweet)! The food was fresh and came out quicker than we expected. Ordering takeout is very iffy. Be advised that you'd be better off going to Big Orange across the street from Park Plaza if you want decent service and better food. At Cheddar's, even when they do actually remember to enter the ticket and prepare your order after you call it in, when you get there your order is on the end of the bar with countless others, usually with someone else's takeout box stacked on top of yours. My first experience with takeout from Cheddar's: Called in, placed the order, got there and it was among several others boxed up and ready to go at the end of the bar. You can tell management doesn't expect many people to order anything to go from this place, but clearly there's a demand there. I doubt they'll do anything further to meet it. The server had to open the container to make sure the order was mine. Thankfully it was. Waited almost 10 minutes overall to pay and leave. My second experience with takeout from Cheddar's: Called in, placed the order, got there, and there were takeout boxes full of food literally stacked on one another at the end of the bar. Server couldn't locate the ticket after awkwardly looking under boxes. Found out the ticket was never entered and the order was never prepared. I was given the option of waiting another 20-25 minutes or giving up on their terrible service. I gave up. To Cheddar's management: You operate in Midtown Little Rock. It's a given that you're always going to be overwhelmingly busy because of your convenient location and yet you operate on the level of the Applebee's they closed in Southwest LR. This was our first experience with the Cheddar's chain. We're two couples from Louisiana and Missouri and were in town for a family member and decided to try this place on a Sunday. We arrived at about 6:00 PM and were seated within a few minutes. They were running a waiting list although the place was only about 2/3 full. Once we were seated, our server came right over and she was super, super nice. And in a genuine way, she was attentive and outgoing. Two had bar drinks and two had diet cokes. The bar drinks were some of those humongous, fruity, over-the-top things, and they said they were delicious. Really delicious. One of them had coconut dusted on the rim of the glass. I'm a single malt guy so nothing for me but anyway, they liked them. Appetizers were onion rings and loaded potato skins. Both were quite good and generous portions, especially the tower of onion rings. Seriously, it was a dual-tower wonder about 8 inches high. I had the heat sweet chicken and shrimp with ginger rice. Nice balance of flavor, good bit of ginger (which I love) and enough heat to let you know it's there. It's served with tails on the shrimp, which is more the norm when you get away from where we live in South Louisiana. I also had a side of broccoli cheese casserole and it was pretty good. Not great but I'd for sure order again. My sweetie had the chicken salad with candied pecans and a balsamic dressing and she loved it. The others had ribs (thumbs up), loaded potatoes (also thumbs up) and lemon pepper white fish. What kind of white fish? Who knows? It wasn't tilapia but might have been cod, haddock or something. She liked it a lot but didn't care for the seasoned rice. Service was very good throughout the meal. There was a couple in the booth behind us that wasn't happy because the guy wanted only one side with his meal instead of two. He ordered two and didn't like one and wanted it taken off his check. Well, the manager had to come over and what resulted was a long, low-key negotiation with this moron that I thought the manager handled splendidly. This guy was obtuse, insisting that the side shouldn't be charged even though the restaurant had moved heaven and earth to find a side that was suitable to him. In the end, it turned out that this was over $2.49 and the manager knocked it off the bill. Sheesh. First the manager looked miserable as f**k, the girls at the front taking reservations acted like you're annoying them. We were in Little Rock recently during my husband's birthday in January. Our hotel was right up the street so as we rode around, this is the first restaurant we saw that we might want to try. I had the Salmon and my husband had the steak. The food was ok after I sent the Salmon back. It wasn't fresh and another order was sent out that was better. Fortunately the service was better. The place wasn't busy at all on a Thursday. We were seated right away and the server came within minutes. Sometimes the service makes up for the food and the server really tried to make it right. The manager, who was always visible, never bothered to check on any of the diners, instead walking around slightly aloof. In any event, the Chicken and Waffles were OK...the chicken had almost a homemade taste to it -- which is good, but different from the standard 'restaurant chicken strips' but the waffle was by no means the best I've had.
