My wife want to get together for dinner and asked to me to meet her at Cheddars. She got there at 5:40PM, and was immediately seated. 20 mins later no one had attended her, until she mention it to the hostess. At 6:05 my text me advising me she had place an order for a pain killer(My favorite drink) and food. I got there at 6:10, and they brought out water for us. At 6:25 still no alcohol drinks, the bar was dead and the waiter was no where to be found. My wife had already been there waiting for 45 mins, while others that got there after her, were being served with their drinks and food. The two stars i'm giving are for the atmosphere.The food was mediocre at best. My boyfriend got the chicken fried steak, it was over done, the mashed potatoes i could tell were box and the gravey, powder. The green beans were definitely out of a can. And I had a hawaiian chicken salad. The chicken was over cooked, charred. And the salad was just a generic bag mix. They tossed in some canned pineapple and a decent lime dressing. As for our waitress, we didn't really see her much, and the only reason we saw her when we got our food was because the person running it got lost and wandered around the dining room til our actual waitress came over and brought it to us. We then only saw her agian because they forgot the extra gravey for my boyfriend's mashed potatoes. After that we didn't see her again til we flagged her down for our check. It seemed as though she was already in the weeds with 3 two tops at 6pm. And from the looks of it, it was about to get very busy. There were a lot of different options on the menu and at a pretty fair price. We may try it again to see if it lives up to all the other reviews it's gotten. read more

I walked into this restaurant and was greeted by the hostess (table for two). My female companion and I went to sit down in the lobby and there was some liquid on the bench. I asked the hostess (blonde young white female) to please wipe it up so that we could sit down. The look she gave me as if that was beneath her. Then she grabbed a towel and spot wipe the liquid up and that really pissed me off. My female companion could not believed what just happened. So the same hostess seated us and I asked the bus boy to get me the manager. The manager came to our table unprofessional (leaned over and ask could I help you?) I informed him what had transpired and his immediate reaction was, I will talk to her and he left. No apology or anything to make me feel like a valuable customer. I immediately walked out and went across the highway to Applebees. Never again would I step foot in this restaurant again. read more

Our party of 4 got there about 7 on a Saturday night and were well prepared for the 45 minute wait we were assigned. 1 hour and 45 minutes later we regretted not leaving when we had discussed it. 5 minutes to get any service, and poor at that. How long does it take to make 3 waters and a Dr Pepper? 10 minutes. My first time experience with this restaurant. I gave it a 1 out 10. Bad server. We had to wait for 45 minutes til our orders came out. They tends to rush us out of there even though we just got our food. I got up to use the restroom, came back my plate was gone. The food was average. Not outstanding. No complimentary on the waiting though, although the manager did come to our table to apologize for the wait. I had been told several times by a colleague of mine that Cheddar's was such a great place to eat so I was in San Antonio this past weekend & decided to try it. It was awful!!!! Would you like food with your salt? Everything was too salty to eat & when advised both the server & the quality control manager, both apologized & said that they would pass the info along to the cook. Our server was nice, however, she could not tell us what was in the drinks that we ordered which are one of their specialties. The drink was good but it had a brown powder sprinkled on top that tasted like a combo of bleach &, maybe, sugar? Once you moved that out of the way the drink was very tasty. Anyhow, don't think I'll be going back anytime soon. I should have gone with my instinct & gone to my first choice. P.S. i would rate this location 0 if i could simply based off of customer service. we came in at 10:11pm on the dot, completely understandable that it's the last hour but regardless it's their job to serve us. the blonde girl who sat us took 20 minutes to "set up a table for 5", where she eventually took us to a booth. she tried to rush us to sit down even though we were the ones waiting on her to put together a table. our server came by to greet us and sighed so loud he sounded absolutely miserable to be there. i am in the service industry so i completely understand the ache of having people walk in an hour before closing, however it is still your job to make your customers happy and feel welcomed. read more

This was my first experience with any Cheddar's restaurant and I have a lot to say. First off, this location is new, so it is difficult to find a convenient dining time when they are not crowded if not packed. However the restaurant itself and surrounding parking accomidate for a large crowd! I got a seat with a minor crowd around 2 pm when the lunch crowd is out and the pre-dinner crowd has yet arrived. Upon first impression, the atmosphere was nice and very casual keeping up with their namesake. The menu is not especially large but they have a lot of variety. I've heard that Cheddar's was a place that was suppose to have everything. And they just about cover it. My food was delicious! Regardless of this my server was very knowledgeable but slow at the same time so there's a definite give and take. As far as price, they will shock you. In a good way! It's relatively cheap for the amount of food you will get and it's quality. My meal was 5.99 and included a bowl of soup, 4 vegetable sides, and a fresh baked butter croissant. Yum! Most things are less than 10$. Overall Cheddar's has won my favor and I hope to become a frequent of this restaurant once the hype dies down. read more

For under 4 dollars for a margarita! You would say.....mmmm this is to good to be true!!! But yes! Here at Cheddars, you can get a delicious margarita for less then 4 bucks. And we aren't talking about those baby cups. We are talking about those Dos-a-Rita glasses. Perfect way to start your weekend, or just come hang for happy hour. But enough about the margaritas. Cheddars also has a pretty bomb menu( meaning tasty or fantastic). From the menu you can get a snack. With some really good chips and chill con queso. Or sit in the nice dining area that they have. To sit down and have a delicious meal for one or two. For me, I love the bar area. Cause they have about seven TVs with at least one game on. That I want to watch or check out. Came to have dinner with my friends, we got here at 7:15 pm for a party of 5. Hostess told us it was a 40 minute wait, which was fine. Parties came and got seated with different # of guests. We kept asking the hostess about our status and kept saying we were next, after that hostess never made eye contact and all 3 of them ignored us. Until we asked for a manager, we were not stated until 9pm. We had a set of 7 month old twins so we were all annoyed and frustrated. We always come to this Chedders by 10 beacuse we all live close after this experience we will no longer give them our service. We understand it was packed but don't tell us 40 minutes then ignore us the entire wait. If someone would have the courtesy to tell us what was going on it would have been a different t story. Then we sat down, placed our order then 30 minutes later the waiter came over to tell us they didn't have ribs. Which made our dinner experience worse. Overall, worse experience ever at chedders which is unfortunate beacuse we love coming here. Why are we given five ***** stars: Based on Food, Service, and Atmosphere. FOOD: The menu offers a good variation and selection. I chose the grilled Salmon; my friend preferred the Lemmon peppered fish. Both plates were delicious with two sides and reasonable portions. Competitive prices. SERVICE: Our server, Danna, was super since our arrival. She was patient in taking our order and consistently attentive, Upon paying and before leaving, the GM stopped by our table to ask basics like how was the food, was it our first visit and how did we hear about them. This was my first visit to the San Antonio location. I have visited Austin and Dallas and yet, this location was the best overall. He said they do not advertise; they depend on referrals. This is the least I can do for a pleasant lunch. I want to start by saying this used to be one of my favorite places to eat. When I worked for the Darden company I would come all the time because I loved the food and I got a discount because I worked at Olive Garden but after 3 bad experiences in a row I don't think I will be returning. The past couple times I have come the margarita machine has been broken and they just don't make the drinks like they used to. Besides that the second to last time I came I was seated at a bar table with my boyfriend and we were sitting there for 10 minutes (not exaggerating) and we still hadn't been greeted. Then a couple got sat at the bar table next to us and they were sitting there probably 5 mine without being greeted and they got up to ask someone where the server was but I don't know why it took so long for the server to come. You would've thought the bartender would tell someone "hey those people have been there awhile someone needs to take care of them..." because I'm pretty sure that he noticed but anyway the server came out and greeted the couple that had gotten there after us. So we were sitting there total for at least 15 min without being acknowledged and the other guests were helped before us. The waitress we had was rude and when we got the bill and I asked for my employee discount she was rude and was talking to another coworker about how we didn't order that much and that I still wanted a discount. My sister and I stopped for lunch at the Cheddar's Northwest San Antonio location and enjoyed our meal and drinks tremendously, but the best thing that came from the visit was being treated to wonderful service from the chefs. My brother-in-law must be on a low-to-no-sodium diet which makes ordering take out a real challenge. Most restaurants have no concern for those on special diets, so my sister was not expecting much when she asked for an entrée to be as close to unsalted as possible. To her surprise, the chef came out of the kitchen to discuss options with her. He put together a delicious dish that was fresh and practically salt-free. We will be going back often and recommending Cheddar's to everyone we know. More restaurants would stay in business if they would practice this kind of customer service. read more

I agree with other reviews saying this is similar to just about any normal chain restaurant like Chili's or Applebee's except that I feel like Cheddar's food is actually fresh. I normally come and order chips and queso to start out with. Queso is a standard queso but pretty good. I do like the broccoli cheese casserole and the chicken alfredo/country fried steak. Servings are perfect. The biggest issue for me are there steaks. They are always overcooked and tough. I asked for Medium and got Well Done multiple times. I have brought it up many times, but would rather not have a awkward moment when the SO or friend eat alone and vice versa when my food comes out (or they wait and there food is cold). Croissants are really good though! Definitely the best part of the meal. So all in all, all there food is OK but just don't order the steaks unless you're not a steak person and just want to eat beef. (Aka well done) read more

Decided to give this place a 2nd chance since the location in Selma is horrible. We had a very nice waitress however this was her 1st week on the job. She looked nervous and scared. We ordered a ceasar side salad to start. After 20 minutes of waiting i had to inquire what the hold up was. I believe she thought she would bring it with the food. We ordered a chicken fried steak with mash potatoes and green beans and the rib and chicken combo with green beans and steamed broccoli. 1st the servers could not distinguish white meat from dark meat. I asked for white and they assured me that's what will come on my plate. So the chicken fried steak came out alone on a plate with a slice of bread. No sides. Then after a few minutes the rib and chicken plate came out with my sides but the chicken was dark meat (leg and thigh). I advised the server who brought the meal that I specifically asked for white meat and he said yes that is white meat. Uh no its not. So ok. Keep in mind we are still waiting for his sides. I start eating and my food is cold. I told our waiter and she looked scared again but while hesitating she took my plate not sure what to do with it. Finally his sides come. Manager comes. Very nice. Apologizes. Wants to make things right and personally brings me a new plate. Sadly enough the chicken was so overcooked it was impossible to eat. Oh well. Lesson learned. Never again. read more

My husband and i discovered Cheddar's while visiting a cousin in Northern Kentucky. We liked it so much that we ate there three dinnertimes in a week. We were so thrilled when they came to San Antonio. We eat at the one near the Rim, and have eaten there more than a dozen times. There are some things they do exceedingly well...think Chicken Fried Steak, which isn't even on the menu, but can be ordered 'off menu.' The lunch portion is one large piece and the dinner portion, two. They are to die for. The Chicken Fried Steak, meh; but then again, I'd rate nearly EVERY CFS in San Antonio MEH. I think they all use an inexpensive grade of meat for this selection. Their onion rings are crisp and golden, much to my liking. The ribs and shrimp very tender and tasty. And don't miss their fabulous margaritas...excellent and cheap. The vegetable selection is very good, with broccoli-cheese casserole a favorite. Two items lacking that I'd love to see are grilled pork chops and corn on the cob. Hint, hint, Cheddar's! Oh, I almost forgot to mention the catfish. Our choice is the cornmeal coated style, but you can order it broiled. It's awesome and rivals the best, or beats them, in San Antonio. Yes, the hampurgers need to be a bit larger and jucier, but insist that they NOT cook it well done, if you decide to order one. This is the problem...too cautious, so overdone. In our opinion, Cheddar's puts Chili's in the grave, given that Chili's is lard heaven and definitely contributes to the obesity epidemic and they charge you very generously to do that! My mother and I had started to come here right after church service, and because we had such a great experience with a waiter named Jesus (I think he went by a nickname though) and another tall, cheery man on another occasion, we thought we had a little tradition going. Sadly -in hindsight- we no longer were being sat in their areas, and we got attended by another person. What a difference. No connection. She seemed to rush us. And the food took its sweet time to get to our table. The service got progressively worse each time we visited this location. The last time, which was the last straw, we were left waiting more than 40 minutes... for vegetable plates. No one bothered to refill our drinks while we waited. We decided to leave (we were hungry!), but not before talking to a manager. Wow, he couldn't have cared less. He told us to go to the one on 410. I've never come across management that disses their own location. I was also shocked that he didn't address our concern. It is not like we wanted to get free food. We just wanted to know why we had not been attended to properly. So, no I don't recommend this place. I wouldn't want you to feel like we did. Go somewhere else. The star is for those waiters that did their job so well. Otherwise, Cheddar's would get 0 stars. read more

Don't like that we waited 10 minutes before a waiter came to our table. There were quite a few waiters passing our table. I saw a lot of wait staff standing around too yet we seemed to be overlooked. Not sure why they sat us in a back corner when there were plenty of seats up front. Saving grace : the waiter we had was efficient and the food came out of the kitchen fast. The food was ok.
