I really wanted to like this place despite the mixed reviews. But my experience here did not start out well. I was with my mom who is visiting from out of town my mother-in-law also visiting and my husband. The hostess guided us to a four top table where the seat I was about to sit in was filled with water and food from the previous guests. Thankfully I noticed it before I sat down and had the hostess move us to a booth instead. We ordered our meals and the food came promptly. I ordered a chicken dish with a thai type sauce and rice broccoli and a side of black beans. Sadly only the black beans were hot. I was so hungry and didn't feel like dealing with it so I ate it as is anyway. My mom asked for a cup of ice and it took our waitress three times before she finally brought it to the table. Well, lunch today was a disappointment. I took my mom here for her birthday because neither of us had ever been to Cheddar's before. Frankly, we would have been happier with Wow next door and spent at least 40% less. There are no crayons or activity pages for the kids. Most restaurants in this price range have them, so that was a bit of a surprise. I had to give my five-year-old my phone to keep her busy while we waited. I ordered some potato skins, which I was pleased to learn are baked instead of fried. As soon as I got them, I discovered they use processed cheese on them. Gross! Who puts Velveeta-type cheese on potato skins? I ordered my skins with no bacon since I am a 23-year-vegetarian. Two of them had bacon on them. The waitress was completely unapologetic and barely acknowledged that the kitchen had inadvertently gotten bacon on my skins. I was never offered two additional potato skins to make up for the ones they messed up, so I couldn't eat almost a third of what I paid for. My mom said the food was "just OK." FIRST and LAST time eating at Cheddars! I was told by several people how tasty the food is so my wife and I finally decided to try it out. Upon entering I was ignored by the staff. ( not sure how this is possible since we are both over 5'10). The waitress brought me the wrong order and seemed upset like it was somehow my fault, didn't smile the remainder time. The food they did bring was inedible! My Monte Cristo wasn't cooked long enough it was soggy and the side included about 5 cold french fries. As a side my wife had the macaroni and cheese, it was watery! Instead of "From scratch," their motto should read "From a package or can!" Note: I did give 1 star for the croissants. This place could be so much better. This is the third time coming to this location and I haven't been pleased at all with the food. The staff is nice but this time our food was cold. My wife asked ordered the hot buns to go with her salad and it was cold, so she asked the waiter if he could bring her another one. It was cold also. I had the Buffalo chicken wrap with a side of broccoli cheese casserole. In the words of Sir Charles Barkley, " It was turrable." The broccoli cheese casserole taste like a frozen dinner warmed in a microwave but the wrap was just okay. They say the location is suppose to be different than the one in Brandon but it's not. The location in Brandon is much better even though I hadn't been there in a while. I saw the manager walking the area talking to guest which was good to see but they need to do a better job with the food. Like I said, this was the third time here and it hadn't got any better. I had been to the cheddars in Brandon quite a few times, and love the place! This is my first time trying the new location in Carrollwood. When I first walked in the door, I asked an extremely cheery hostess if I could see myself at a hightop in the bar. She said yes. I assumed because I had asked her that there would be a server even if I set myself. After trying to get I contact with the server for about 15 minutes I finally stop someone and ask if they could help me. After that, the service for the rest of the visit was fabulous! The reason for it three stars is because of the nickel and diamond at this restaurant does in regards to charging their prices. We asked for a six dollar wine, which they were out of, so then wanted to charge us for the eight dollar wine. There is no happy hour, and the sandwiches don't come with the side. $31 before a tip, for a hamburger fries and two glasses of wine was a bit outrageous in my opinion. I went here with a big group of ladies ready for a fun night. I personally only got drinks, which were fantastic! I got 2 of the painkillers. You are only allowed to have two. I recommend getting yourself some of those. When asking several friends that did order food how they liked it they all were disappointed. They got chicken fingers and fries and the Monte Cristo with fries. I snagged a fry from my pals plate and it was dry. None of them said they would come back.The service was slow. The server was very nice but not real.with it. I had to ask for a gluten free menu 2 times before he remembered it and I had to ask 2 times what is in the skinny margarita. The other thing that was annoying is when it checks came all of us were charged wrong! When brought to the waiters attention he said he would take care of it. I've been a huge fan of the Cheddar's in Pinellas for years. The new location opened in Tampa on North Dale Mabry recently & i was pumped to have one so close to home! My family and i decided to check out the new location last night. They told us it would be an hour wait until we could be seated. We only ended up waiting like 20 minutes, which was awesome! Soon after we sat, we all ordered our food. I ordered the Baby Back Ribs & Chicken Tenders combo with a side of mac n cheese & a house salad. I'm a huge bbq fanatic, so the ribs were a no brainer for me & you can't go wrong with Cheddar's chicken tenders! I must say that i was a bit disappointed in the ribs. They were very fatty for baby backs (although they were fall off the bone tender). I also wish they supplied extra bbq sauce for the ribs also. Most rib joints i've been to cook the ribs with sauce so it carmelizes, but you can also pour or dip the ribs in fresh wet sauce as you eat it....My mother-in-law's order wasn't quite right when they brought it out to her. They brought out the wrong side by mistake. Not a super big deal, but the server got a bit snippy when the error was brought to her attention....The overall attentiveness of our server left more to be desired as well. She took our order at the beginning, brought out food and brought us our check. She really didnt check up on us much while we were eating. She did refill our drinks toward the end of our meal....We split the check 2 ways and the items between the 2 checks were mixed up. Kind of annoying. My review may sound negative, but the overall experience wasnt bad. Just some things that jumped out to me. The food was good. Atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. I would go back no doubt. First time was on 4th of July - hardly anything else open so decided to give this a try. We were seated immediately and enjoyed prompt service and fantastic food (Monte Cristo with lots of rasberry jam for dipping and a vegatable plate). Returned several days later and had another great experience. Our server, Jack was very friendly, had good suggestions and our service was over the top (like keeping out drinks filled without asking). Got the Monte Cristo again and the vegatable plate and great (rare) burger for the three of us. Added the tower of onion rings starter - real onions, lightly battered and fried and enough for three. Was very disappointed with my experience visiting Cheddars. I came in around 7pm with my two children. We ordered an adult meal and two kids meals. It took approx 45 min for the adult meal- the kids meal came out 5-10 minutes after mine had. They helped me eat mine as they were *starving* kids terms of course lol. Since it took so long we boxed the kids meals and went home. My hubs and came home shortly after and took a bite of the kids meal- the chicken strips weren't fully cooked and neither was the Slider/cheeseburger. The chicken really upset me as that is a danger. The only thing I felt, the food could have been a little bit more flavorful. I had fish and I got bones in them. Our experience was blah. We sat for too long before being waited on, finally flagging down a manager. It was mid afternoon and they were about 1/2 full. The manager was pleasant and the server arrived a few minutes later. There was A LOT of staff, even despite it being shift change, making the wait strange. Food was at the Chili/Appelbee level/variety. I had hoped for better. They make a deal out of food being from scratch, but it seemed like the usual fare to me. My salmon portion was quite small, but good (liked the Miso glaze). Rice it came w/ was just so so. In sum, Cheddar's was not bad, but it was not good either. Final extra peeve, but this is common to a lot of places: no prices listed for drinks. First time at Cheddars last week and I was very underwhelmed! Cheddars has been getting a lot of hype, so I was expecting a lot. The best part about cheddars is there drinks. Cheddars has BIG drinks that makes it worth your buck. As far as food goes, it is maybe a half step from Chillis or Applebees. It is way better than those chains BUT not that much. It is also pretty expensive. I got cheese fries and a chicken sandwhich and I didn't find anything special about it. My server Eric wasn't too enthusiastic either. I would recommend going to Cheddars for drinks and maybe a appetizer, but as a whole - nothing to gas about. read more

The food is pretty good!!! However, their issue is consistency and variety. Although I enjoy their current menu I wish they had more options, especially sea food. Also, in my opinion, they have the best ranch dressing I have ever had but I have come across a couple of batches where the consistency has been off. Despite coming here with an hour left til closing (dont worry we were done and out the door before closing time!) it was a fantastic dinner and much better than I had anticipated. Our server was extremely friendly and took as much time as needed without making us feel rushed. The queso was delicious and exactly what we needed being cold and starving. ALL of the drinks that kept passing our table looked amazing and the prices were all extremely fair on their list of specialty cocktails. I personally tried the Milagro Pomegranate margarita which was perfectly shaken and not too heavy on any of the ingredients. I had the maple bacon chicken sandwich (with mac n' cheese and coleslaw) and my friend had the bacon cheeseburger with broccoli/cheese casserole. I was disappointed when the Cheddar's in Brandon shut down but got excited when I was in Carrollwood last night and had the opportunity to eat at their new location. I had the queso appetizer and it was very good and FAST. When my other two eating companions arrived we ordered a spinach appetizer and came out just a few minutes before our food. I ordered the chicken Caesar pasta salad that came with grilled chicken. I was surprised to see the chicken was actually deli meat on top of the salad when it arrived. I asked if I got the wrong order (maybe someone requested that?) and was told that is how it is prepared. I looked at the menu again to see if I missed the description and saw it only said "grilled chicken breast". I didn't argue with the server since she doesn't write the menu, but definitely didn't eat the chicken on my salad because it was not appetizing having it be deli meat instead of a grilled chicken breast sliced up. There was also too much dressing on the salad so I picked out the pasta and took the deli meat home for my dogs. Maybe there needs to be a picture of the salad or update the menu to include "deli meat" in the description. I don't think I will be the only one disappointed when a salad with deli meat on top arrives at the table. read more

Upon sitting down, our server asked us if it was our first time at a Cheddar's. We replied yes and she continued by telling us how the operate and what they are known for. After she walked away to place our drink order, the manager came to our table. He said that he heard it was our first time there and proceeded to give us fresh baked chocolate chip cookies and thank us for coming in. We thought that was a nice gesture. Cheddar's really needs something to make it stand out among the Friday's, Chili's, Applebees, Red Robins, etc. out there Both the exterior and interior of the building are nice. It's a new building and the design was done pretty well. But what was disappointing about Cheddar's, was the lack of creativity for their menu and the lack of great flavor in their food. Kind of run of the mill as far as their menu goes. I guess Cheddar's hangs their pride that their food is made from scratch. Well that seems like a cool thing on paper but couldn't really tell actually if the food items were made from scratch and if they were, so...it's not like it made it taste that much better. Another big problem was the amount they give you for their sides. I got a side of Mac & Cheese for my dish and my girlfriend got a side of broccoli cheese casserole. They came in these very small dipping bowls that were half filled. About 3-4 forkfuls. On top of that, both the Mac & Cheese and the casserole needed salt and pepper- they were bland. I did like the fact that they had a Monte Cristo on their menu. I had no complaints there. It was light but filling and tasted pretty good. Service was decent. Although, our waiter was sort of aloof. He totally botched my mom's dinner. My mom ordered a Cesar salad to come out before her steak but not only did it not come out at the proper time...it never came out at all. Her baked potato was suppose to have the toppings to the side but instead it was all on top of the potato. And lastly, she ordered her steak medium but it came out (agreed upon by our whole table) as medium rare. I have lived in Tampa for a little over a year now, and this is hands-down the worst food I have ever been served in a restaurant to this day. Last night, my girlfriend and I made a trip to Cheddar's just to try it out. The decor and atmosphere were nice, and our server was very attentive and friendly. We ordered Wisonsin cheese "bites"(cheese curds) as our appetizer. They were actually pretty good. Literally no complaints up to this point. Strangely, my girlfriend and I were both in the mood for a steak, so we each ordered a 6oz Medium-rare, and both of us actually ordered macaroni and cheese and broccoli casserole as our sides. (Something about that seemed incredibly appetizing at the time.) When our food arrived, the disappointment was almost immediate. BOTH of our steaks were well overcooked. They each were laid upon a bed of greasy, disgusting onion straws, which were about as complimentary to our dry, overcooked steak as orange juice and toothpaste. We each hoped the saving grace of this disaster of an entree would be the sides; no such luck. The macaroni, while being the most edible item on the plate, was extremely bland. Meanwhile, the broccoli casserole was just straight-up inedible. I mean to say it was seriously the worst side of any entree I've ever had the displeasure of attempting to eat. It was a gluey cheese sauce over previously-frozen broccoli with soggy rice. The taste was akin to something I would have exiled from my lunch tray in a middle-school cafeteria. I will take partial blame for not bringing any of this to the attention of our server, but my reasons were justifiable. She was a great server, and I did not feel the food being bad was her fault. In fact, I'd say over 50% of the problems with the food we were served weren't even the cooks' fault. There was something fundamentally wrong with the food that goes all the way to the top. The ingredients and the recipes are complete and utter garbage. How any of it passes any generic taste test is totally beyond me. I feel bad giving this restaurant a 1* review, especially since the only thing I think that the cooks/server/anyone had any control over was the over-cooked steak, but this food was not only the worst restaurant food I've been served in Tampa, but literally the worst of my entire lifetime. The fact that I had to rank the food served to us by "Least to Most edible" even after being served a fantastic appetizer just shows how inconsistent this menu is, and how poorly planned the recipes are. read more

One of my new favorite places! Staff is always super friendly. The amount of food you get for your money is incredible, I always have to take a to-go box because I can never finish it all. My first time there I ordered a Cajun pasta dish and didn't expect anything amazing, but I was so wrong, it was amazing and like I said you get so much food!
