A friend and I had lunch there for the first time last week. We had an amazing server named Alyssa. The food was yummy and the service was great. I ordered fish and chips. It was light and crispy, not at all greasy. There were 3 pieces of fish. I only expected 2. The tarter sauce was yummy as well. The fries were okay, not greasy either. I would have liked them a bit crispier but no complaints. My friend got a salad with chicken on it. I can't remember the name but she loved it. We plan to go back next time and try the cheesecake. We were full and had no more room. The ambiance was lovely and I love the building its in. Never knew this part of town existed. We will definitely go back. read more

Definitely not worth the price. I ordered a steak wedge salad but changed the dressing from blue cheese to Caesar. For starter I ordered my steak medium rare and when I got it, it was very dry and was completely cold, my dressing was incorrect overall was not a good meal. read more

The atmosphere was awesome because it is in an old building and the food was good. Little on the pricey side, but still good. The only draw back was our waitress. She was horrible. We had to ask for things two and three times and then she brought our food out and she got that wrong. When I told her the order was wrong she asked me if I was sure? Umm really? I have been eating at Cheesecakes as long as I can remember- when they were on Market street. I love this restaurant. My grown children love this restaurant. I have never had bad service or bad food. I'm a local and been here numerous times over that past few years. If you go for lunch during the week and sit in the general seating section, pretty sure you'll get good service and good food. I always do. My girl and I went for lunch today (Saturday) and sat at the bar. An off duty employee sat next to us and smelled up the place with armpits, alcohol, and cigarettes along with garbled chit chat. He was just very annoying and I'm pretty sure his coworkers just wanted him gone. Fast forward to our meal...I ordered a pulled pork sandwich. It was cold and tasted like something you would expect from Chef Boyardee. I returned it and asked for the order to be canceled. My girl ordered a french dip. It was about room temp and pretty tasteless. The bartender was attentive and poured our drinks well. When we left, no one apologized for the crappy meal. It seemed the bartender just wanted the hell out of there...so did we! Beautiful restaurant and needs to step it up! read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Our waiter accidentally dropped all of our ice-cold drinks down the back of one of my friends. She jumped out of her seat soaked down her back. I understand that accidents happened, but the reason I am writing this sad review is because of the way it was handled....or how it wasn't handled at all. No one apologized and by the time they arrived with towels we had everything wiped down with napkins. They didn't offer anything to us. We weren't expecting our meal to be free, but we expected some compensation for the embarrassing inconvenience. Alternate seating was not even offered.Was there a manager on duty? It would have been nice to be handled by a manager. But they just watched us leave the restaurant and said nothing. We were very disappointed by their staff and management. read more

Well we tried it again, and it only got worse. We looked forward to a nice dinner out on New Years Eve. This time we were squished into a tiny table up against the wall so that your arm movement on wide side was curtailed. It seemed odd because there were so many tables. We just figured they were expecting a lot of people, but few showed up while we were there. I guess we should have asked for another table, but we elected not to make a fuss. I selected the sole stuffed with crab. One of the specials. It was barely warm and on the top of the fish it had a dry pasty sauce on top; I wondered if I had made a mistake. I ate some of the fish until I got to one end of it where it had that horrible spoiled fish taste, disgusting! I usually hesitate to order fish, but I thought it must be good if it is one of their specials. Asparagus was on the special board too, but found out after ordering that they did not have any asparagus, so green beans were substituted. You might think, no big deal, only the beans were so tough I could not cut them with my knife. The potatoes were okay, hard to mess up potatoes. The entree arrived following their house salad, that was fairly good, but absolutely drowned in dressing. It only gets worse. After our entree was served our server never returned. We finally gestured to a "bus person" who took our plates, and then we continued to wait. When we tried to get our server's attention, he walked nearby avoiding eye contact. My son did okay with deep fried fish and chips, but was equally appalled at the lack of service. This restaurant would like the public to think they are a high caliber restaurant, their prices reflect that they are certainly above average. An average restaurant does not serve crab stuffed sole; they are probably at the top or near the top in their entree prices. Whoever runs this restaurant in no way delivers the quality one would expect. There is no well trained chef in the kitchen. They obviously are not striving for excellence, do not have the skill necessary to produce consistently good food. Salads are pretty good, but how much expertise do you need to make a salad. Worst experience ever! When we first got there, the restaurant was empty, yet they still put us at the only table with no place settings. This was after we had been acknowledged by two women at the front, but not helped for 15 minutes. Once sat, one of the two women was our waitress who proceeded to forget our drinks, forget several key ingredients for our food(no pine nuts in the shrimp pinenut salad--what the heck!), when we asked for more bread she rudely said "you want MORE bread?" Then put the bread basket in the middle I our bruschetta plate. Then had the gall to confront us about why we tipped so low. We love this restaurant and used to be regulars, but ever since they moved, the service has been horrible. We won't be trying them again. read more

Went to the new location for a family birthday lunch, we were seated promptly which was nice. When our waitress took our order she was very rude, we were shocked actually. The food was ok but not as good as I remembered it to be at their other downtown location. When we got our checks there was a mistake on one of them, when we asked about it our waitress was even more rude. Our bus guy was extremely nice and funny, I think they need to take a look at their waiters and waitresses and make sure they are smiling and being nice. read more

The rudest restaurant owner I've ever encountered. My boyfriend is retired from the military with a purple heart and has a new service dog. We accidentally forgot her water dish and asked for a small bowl for water for her the waitress promptly accommodated. The owner later walked over and complained about our dog and having to provide a bowl, but he went on to say that people, "bring in lap dogs all the time". Our dog is NOT a lap dog. He was rude and insulting and complete disregard for my boyfriend's service to our country. We immediately got up and left. I'd never give patron to a business that doesn't honor our heros that fight and give their lives for our country! read more

It is the Christmas season and Cheesecakes was super crowded. We thought about going somewhere else but I am glad we didn't. I had the fish and chips and it was really good. My friend had the mushroom bleu cheese burger and really enjoyed it. Mason was our server and he was awesome!!! He had a number of other tables and managed to stay on top of everything. The food came out quick and our drinks were refilled before we could even finish them! When we go back we will ask to be seated in Mason's section for sure! read more

I read some of the negative reviews on this place and I see that they do not understand Cheesecakes Unlimited for what is is: (1) A place to get top-rate salads; and (2) A place to get top-rate cheesecake. All the locals who frequent Cheesecakes understand this. It's a given: Redding is not a culinary hotbed. That said, I've eaten salads, thousands of them, at hundreds of restaurants nationwide over decades. And I do not say this lightly: Cheesecakes has THE BEST salads I've ever had. The Chicken Oriental and the Chicken Feta are my favs, but several others are excellent. Second, the Cheesecake is amazing. My favorite is the chocolate cheesecake. Whatever variety you get, make sure it's drizzled with the caramel and chocolate sauce they offer; and some like the whipped cream. I've visited this place, literally, more than 500 times over more than 15 years. This place is five stars because of these two things. That's why you go. read more

If we would gotten any service at all it could have been 5 stars because the food was excellent as usual. We got seated by a buser and he took our drink order, he returned with only water and we never got our ice teas. After sitting for about ten minutes our waitress came over and asked if we were ready, no greeting, no specials, no "how are you today". I let it slide and ordered a cup of soup and salad, still I was not informed what that might be. Fortunately I saw the specials on Facebook so I knew what I was ordering. I'm not sure if I like the new location better, it felt a little cold. No music and a lot of servers standing around, three of whom were on their cell phone on the floor. My soup came out and was very good, a turkey pesto with a cream base. I'm not sure if I got given the wrong spoon but the one that was given to me was a huge serving spoon....much to large for the the cup. Our entrees came out and both were good as always. Our server only returned to give us our bill, luckily we were able to flag down someone to refill our empty water glasses and ask for a Togo box. I think with some strong management this place could be 5 stars but the staff defiantly needs some attention. read more

Probably on of the worst places I've ever eaten, which is sad because the restaurant is beautiful! The ambience is charming and mature with class and elegance....... And then the food comes out. Microwaved chicken with berry sauce on top of it. Trust me, it sounds better than it tasted. Returned it to the kitchen and the waitress said it wasn't microwaved. Disappointed! While waiting in the lobby for my friends to arrive, I listened to the hostess rant endlessly about another server and then give him attitude when he attempted to communicate with her. This same hostess spent her time either zoned at the counter, eyes vacant, or was absent when new patrons arrived. The service was sub par. The waitress took our order without writing it down and returned a few minutes later because she'd already forgotten our drink orders. Thankfully she did get our meals correct; however, when she delivered them she didn't know what meal belonged to whom, there were only 3 of us. She never returned to refill waters and when she took desert order never asked about coffee. As far as the food goes, this was my biggest disappointment. Yes, they are known for salads, but I decided to try the fish tacos instead. Totally flavorless!!!!!! My friends had the salads and were happy. So stick to the salads and of course the cheesecake was delicious. We were there for dinner at about 6pm on a Wednesday night. The restaurant wasn't very busy, so there didn't seem to be a good excuse for the slow, poor service. The service staff needs more training and mentorship. They lack professionalism and customer service skills. They've been in Redding a lot of years and this is at least their third location. I'd like them to survive and thrive. I love local restaurants and the Pine Street School is a good location. I hope you make a managerial change sooner than later!!!! read more

Horrible service! Someone came to get our drink order, we asked for a beer list, they dropped it off and never came back. Also the host and waitress were both unfriendly and we had to wait a long time for our meal. The food wasn't as good as usual. I used to love this place, and now I will not be returning. You know, their salads are typically good; but, I ordered the smoked salmon salad, and I didn't want vinaigrette so I asked for Blue cheese dressing; waitress said they don't have blue cheese dressing; I said what can you do for me? She suggested Ranch with blue cheese crumbled; she didn't say it would be more money; when I got the check, she charged me $4 extra dollars for a few crumbles of cheese it made the already expensive salad of $15 a $19 salad. I'm sorry but shouldn't a restaurant that specializes in salad, have blue cheese? And, if they don't, that's on them; they shouldn't charge their loyal patrons $4 extra for their lame salad dressing supply! Having said all that, I was a little too harsh; . Went to Cheesecakes Unlimited at the new location on Friday night (10/18/2013 at 6:30 pm) and it was the bottom of the rush hour. This was the first time my husband and I had been to the restaurant ever and the second time for my parents. They had been to the original location a year ago and now this time in the new place. Both times they had Dustin as a server and BOTH times were memorable experiences that they wish not to have repeated. We got seated in a corner table by the hostess and didn't get waters from someone until 10 mins later. The young lady that brought us our water failed to say if she would be our server or if someone else would be. We continued to wait to order for another 10 mins while Dustin was waiting on tables nearby and even glanced our way a couple times without acknowledging us. After waiting for 15 mins for someone to take our order, he finally shows up and says "Are you ready to order?" We were slightly put-off with the lack off pleasantries of introducing himself, apologizing for the wait, etc. When he asked to take our order (without a tablet which is rare to see outside of a five star or elite restaurant) he repeated it back to us, including drinks twice to make sure he got the order correct. He quoted it back properly but the results were very discouraging. Our order included: Potstickers and Sweet Potato Fries for appetizer California Turkey Panini with Sweet Potato Fries instead of regular fries 2 Chicken Caesar Salads Shrimp and Pine Nut Salad For drinks, it was easy....Raspberry Iced Tea, a glass of Shiraz, and a rum and coke respectively for the other three diners while I remained having water. The rum and coke and what was supposed to be the shiraz showed up about 10 mins after they were ordered and the shiraz had to be send back because Dustin put in the wrong wine on the bar order. When the proper wine was delivered I finally got my luke warm soup (Chicken Mushroom Marsala soup) but without bread and butter like the other tables had received that were being served by Dustin. Along with the soup we received the appetizers too. We were still waiting on the Raspberry Iced Tea (which we are now 40 mins into dinner service). Finally the three dinner salads arrived by now (without bread and butter for all as stated on the menu) and the California Turkey Panini arrived too...with REGULAR FRIES and not the sweet potato ones that were requested. Oh, and still no Raspberry Iced Tea. We had to ask someone else to bring it. Yes, we could have asked to have the orders rectified, however being an hour plus into dinner service and having had to ask someone else for the lost iced tea, we weren't going to go there. By the way, Dustin never came by to check on us or our meals. The original young lady that brought us our waters came by to give refills and I asked her the name of our server to find out his name since he never told us in the beginning. She told us and I thanked her because I thought he was someone I knew but was mistaken and she replied with "Yeah, you wouldn't know him". I was baffled and taken back with the fact that she replied let alone with that. In any case, we had finally been told his name and that's when I made sure I would get this review up. Dustin came by after seeing 3 out of four plates were cleared from the table by someone else and we needed a box for the sandwich. He asked if we wanted dessert and then kindly rambled off the cheesecake list. We ordered two creme brulee cheesecake slices and a mocha Bailey's cheesecake slice and coffee. When we got the cheesecakes, you couldn't tell they were different in anyway by appreance because the slices were drenched in caramel sauce and chocolate sauce, which also masked the flavors overall. The coffees were delivered by someone other than Dustin as well. We finally got our check, paid and it was brought back to us by Dustin without a thank you or anything else. All the time we were there, we watched Dustin attentively wait on his other tables making sure their orders were correct et al. It was very disheartening. Almost as if we were "given" to him as a pick up for another server that had left for the night. Needless to say....we unfortunately will not be back. If it wasnt for the food, this review would have been given zero stars. P.S. The review on here about Dustin being an amazing server must have been posted by a friend or family member because he was not all that. This was my parents second experience of being waited on by him and they said that IF they do come back ( which is a long shot) they will request not to be in Dustin's section. He did a major disservice to this restaurant's business. This was posted on the old location's YELP review and this one. Sorry...covering all bases. read more

When I go to lunch w a friend she always picks Cheesecakes. The restaurant is beautiful. It's very disappointing that the don't step up their service and food to the same level. I arrived shortly after they opened. After a staff person finally greeted me I asked for a table for two. There was no one else in the restaurant, but the staff person took approximately 5 minutes looking at a seating chart. She asked if an upstairs table would be ok (when an entirely huge dining room downstairs was completely empty). I said I preferred downstairs and she seated me at a table for two along the wall. When a few other parties arrived, they were all seated at adjacent tables - the ladies next to us were so close one of them kept hitting me with her hair as she tossed it. It was a quite bizarre seating choice for a restaurant given the large number of empty tables throughout the spacious location. We ordered salads and they arrived promptly. I had the shrimp pasta salad on a bed of greens. It was enormous with 4 decent sized shrimp. It had absolutely no flavor at all even though it was said to have had a basil vinaigrette. We didn't receive a bread basket as we have on past occasions, but received one thin slice of baguette with each salad. $20 for a large salad and a soda. Disappointing all around. This restaurant should obtain some training for their staff (or new staff) and find some kitchen staff who know what good food tastes like. It's such a waste of a beautiful location. read more

Used to be my favorite spot in Redding.But they recently raised there prices(raised prices alot,and even though there food is good definitely not worth that much.prices are just way too high for this town.There salads are excellent,but there sandwiches (especially french dip)are awful.just plain bread&a litle bit of meat&small amount of fries.sandwiches are dry&have no flavor,yucky. We have been coming and bringing out of town friends here for years. The past few times we have been here the service has been bad, boarding on the worst. I really want to like this place, I do... but it falls short in a lot of ways. The building itself is a perfect place for a restaurant - the loft seating, the high ceilings. Even the staff seemed friendly and attentive. BUT the food, is very disappointing. When I visited, I had the Mahi tacos. Canned, bland, black beans were served on the side along with bland, air-hardened "Mexican rice. And the tacos, I think I definitely could have made it better at home myself. I am giving this 3 stars simply because I have hope. I used to love Cheesecakes but lately it's been subpar. We get it to go quite a bit when we visit my mom on the west side. The last few times they have messed up but nothing too bad. A couple times no chicken on a chicken salad and once they completely left out part of the order. Tonight we called in an order at 5:45 and they said 25 minutes. My husband got there right at 6:10. He didn't get the food until 6:40. When he got back to the house (5 minute drive) all the food was soggy and cold as though it had been sitting there the whole time he was there. Bread was falling apart and fries weren't worth eating but at least the fruit was ok! Will go back, love the feta chicken salad (when they remember the chicken) and they have good sandwiches. Let me start off with saying I LOVE this place for lunch. With that being said, we will never be back for dinner. Prices double, which is totally understandable if you leave full and satisfied. My Fiance & I went there for dinner, happy to celebrate our anniversary (it's a rare occasion we get actually get a sitter and have some adult time to go on a date) and we order chicken marsala and an asian chicken salad. With all the salads coming out my fiance says, "Your salad is going to be huge! look how big their salads are!" His chicken marsala comes out first, it only covers, maybe, half the plate that's including the pasta, smallest portion of chicken i've ever seen with a dinner entree. It's no better, nor fancier than Olive Garden's (theirs is cheaper and HUGE). My fiance is still hungry so he orders a cheesecake. My salad comes out and it's the size of their half salads. I ordered a full. Everyone else's around me are heaping. Mine was sad. Our waitress was wonderful. Everything tasted fine, but I think it's one of those places that I will only be back for lunch. read more

The service was amazing!!!! Very fast and kind! But the steak here was horrible :/ the place smelled bad when I first walked in... there was really no one even sitting down eating. My husband and I couldn't even eat the steak it was a joke and for the price. My steak was rare and I wanted it medium well, also some sauce on it made want to throw up a little in my mouth Idk it wasn't very pleasant. I am basing the cheese cake on the ones I make. I tend to like them in between creamy and flaky, but more flaky. The New York style cheese cake that I had, was really creamy, almost like it wasn't baked. The service is second to none, very coordinated staff. read more
