Tried a bunch of different eats: potstickers/dumplings, soup dumplings (juicy buns), zha jiang noodles, Mongolian beef, salt and pepper pork chop, and fried rice. Enjoyed the potstickers and soup dumplings as well as the zha jiang noodles--will definitely be back to try the other handmade noodle dishes they have. For the stir fry entrees I ordered the lunch portions so it came with half an egg and rice and they were ok, nothing to get excited over. So the place is quaint and both Chef June and Yanan are super friendly and welcoming. We just found the place on Yelp so we ordered every dumpling pan fried on the menu along with both pork and chicken soup dumplings. I also wanted to try the beef shank noodle soup and Yanan was right about the shank being very tender and tasty. All the pan fried dumplings were good but will probably pass on the veggie ones. The triple delight and beef with scallions are my favorite. The mini juicy soup dumplings are essential for each visit and the chicken was surprisingly more favorable for me. There was only two of us but we ordered 9 dishes and finished all of them except a few veggie dumplings. What a find! Chef June is the owner and chef. She worked in Michelin star restaurants and it shows. She's Chinese. Half the menu is homemade dumplings with the option of having them steamed or fried (pot stickers). She makes her own thin dumpling wrappers and fresh noodles for the noodle dishes. The other half of the menu is the traditional Chinese dishes you'd expect. We order several things to try a lot. We leaned towards more pork dishes because that's what we like but there are chicken, shrimp, beef and vegetarian dishes and soups too. Three of us shared a big bowl of won ton soup as a starter. Lovely broth and delicious pork won tons. Steamed triple delight dumplings (shrimp, pork and?). Beef and scallion fried dumplings/pot stickers. Pork mini juicy buns which are soup dumplings/XLB. A little pork belly gua bao sandwich. Zia-jiang noodles with ground pork, vegs and homemade noodles. The chef came out to check on us. Humble and gracious. They have been open 1 1/2 years, have tons of carry-out and Grub Hub delivery and sell as much traditional Chinese as they do dumplings and homemade noodle dishes. In a strip mall. I keep eating here. Triple delight dumplings are very good but not great...better hot oil would help. Liked the dan dan noodles but maybe a little salty for my low-sodium diet. Loved the salt & pepper pork chops...to heck with low-sodium...not greasy like other places...perfectly cooked. Had a cold noodle dish but I think they might have served me the wrong one. Chef Junes is a hidden gem! The husband ate his Shank Ramen so fast it was impressive. Their Mini Juicy Buns (soup dumpling) were delicious. Friend & myself had the chicken noodle Raman and we both raved about the broth, probably the best we ever had. We will be returning soon. read more

BEWARE! If you order dumplings check them before consuming. I saw someone posted a review recently and she was served raw meat. I have never thought to check mine but decided to after reading the review. All of our dumplings were raw. I wasn't able to get a photo as they quickly removed the dish. They brought up an order of egg rolls but they weren't good and it just doesn't make up for serving raw meat. I hope they consider this moving forward as this could make one very sick. We did eat our entrees which consisted of the beef noodle soup and an order of orange chicken. Both were really good. Not sure if I'd come here again. I'm a vegetarian who loves dumplings and handmade noodles. I wish there were more options for dumplings here than just the "vegetarian dumplings," though they are excellent - the flavor balance is just a little different than I've had elsewhere. We got those (potsticker style), the curry tofu, and the cold Szechuan noodle salad. All very tasty. The curry tofu was several pieces of fried tofu in a spicy peanut sauce with a mound of soy sauced rice, and the cold noodle salad did have perfectly toothsome noodles. I would like even more vegetables and might see if they'll offer extra next time. There are other veg options, including a vegetable noodle soup; scallion pancakes; lo mein, etc. We got take-out so I can't comment on the dine-in experience. We'll be back! read more

Just had the Biang Biang noodles and im so excited to have my city friends come and try it! I always feel like there is no good food in the burbs... then I found Pinched! So good and all the city folks loved it. Then they opened up a spot in the city and closed the one in the burbs. But now there's Chef June! Yum! One of the reviews said her dumplings were pink inside. My wife has made pork dumplings where the meat was still pink inside... I thought she was trying to kill me but it turns out the meat just stayed pink but was fully cooked. Google cooked pork still pink and even the USDA says it can be pink but fully cooked. Edit: also had the beef shank noodle. It was perfect. Refrigerated it since I didn't eat it when I got my order. It reheated well and the broth was really clean. (Normally broth that I refrigerate has a thick layer of fat on top once chilled. This broth had minimal fat and so much flavor. read more

I've been looking for a good dumpling restaurant in the Chicagoland area that features authentic, handmade dumplings and thought I'd give Chef June's a try while passing the new restaurant by on Ogden Avenue. Sadly, I still have yet to find a satisfactory restaurant. While the triple delight (pork/leek/shrimp) pan-fried dumplings were pretty good and definitely handmade, I was very disappointed that the pork soup dumplings (xiao long bao) were clearly store-bought (they tasted just like the frozen Wei Chuan ones you can buy at any Asian grocery store like H-Mart). One person commented saying that they tasted just like Din Tai Fung's xiao long bao -- that is definitely NOT the case! You can obviously tell that the wrapper for their soup dumplings were done by a machine and not handmade like at the famed Din Tai Fung (18 folds in Din Tai Fung's wrapper compared to the meager 9 for the store-bought ones...). It's sad how the restaurant (and to be honest, many others in the area) use the frozen store-bought soup dumplings and pass it off as their own. While I did enjoy the actual handmade pan-fried dumplings (juicy and appropriate amount of filling inside), the xiao long bao were just super disappointing - resulting in the 2-star review. read more

Found this place just driving around and wanted to try something different. I definitely got that! I got the Szechuan Beef Soup Noodle, the noodles were hand made.....don't be scared of spicy because it's not a strong spicy. Perfect flavor . Better learn to eat with chop sticks that adds to the nostalgia of eating like your in asia. Always presented the same proper manner never sloppy. I love this place, so glad to find places like this to get away from the burger or sandwich. You will not have that heavy feeling after you eat either. I have not had such well made dumplings in a long time-Get the pan fried beef scallion dumplings and ask for chili oil on the side-This combo is so good! The szechuan beef noodle soup is stellar-Tender and melty beef perfectly marbled with fat, on top of stretchy housemade noodles with crunchy bokchoy, a golden egg-and all of that is soaking up the wonderfully spiced broth! The textures and flavors mix so beautifully in this bowl. On a cold Chicago afternoon, this restaurant will truly warm your bones! General's chicken was crispy perfectly fried with a light sauce served with flavorful chicken fried rice! Excellent points for the price being VERY reasonable. I stopped here for lunch because I read some favorable comments on social media. I was pleased with the take-out service, but very disappointed by the food. I ordered the lunch sized mapo tofu. Not a good thing to order here: The dish was spicy but only with common pepper, not chilis and Sichuan peppercorn. Generous serving, although more rice than tofu. The menu said white steamed rice, but I received mediocre fried rice, which was dry and dull. To be fair, I'll give them another chance with one of their noodle dishes and then update this review.
