The ordering process is different, inspired by places like Chipotle, but the staff knows this and offered to help us out. You choose a combo, the pick a meat(I chose lamb, $4 up charge) & a side. You can also order a la carte of course. While your meat of choice is cooking, you choose a side. I had the green chile yogurt, which paired well with the fresh nan. The meat comes with vegetables & rice. For the price you get a good amount of food. The lamb was tender & tasty, but the veggies were over whelmed with a strong seasoning. A friend and I went for an early dinner last night. I'd seen this place but never been and I am happy to say that I'll go back for sure. I ordered the open faced chicken sandwich with hummus on the side instead of the usual yogurt based sauce and it was just as good. I love Persian / middle eastern food anyway, but the flavors here are lovely. My friend got the big kebab plate and that was also fantastic! They give you your sides with the flat bread right away and then you wait for (what seemed like forever to me since they only had 1 table ahead of us) the main part of your order. I have to admit I was a little disappointed with the food here as I had high expectations, (coming from a Middle Eastern background). Let me start off by saying it is very pricey for the amount of food you get and the taste was nothing to brag about. I might be biased because i prefer a more authentic setting and this seemed to be more industrialized and standardized. But for being both of those it is well designed for people who love that standardized feel to restaurants. While you can order online, when you get around to eating in-house, the experience is still great. The wealth of options is great, so you might need a couple of times through to get your desires. We've done takeout a lot of times, and we still got lost. Unlike a lot of other places, combos don't come with drinks, and they may forget to ask you what you want to drink; their fancy teas don't come with refills, so I'm a fan of just getting regular teas. I'm partial to the lamb and chicken kebabs and the crispy rice. Koobideh is a good second option, and my girlfriend is partial to their baba ganoush. Their flatbreads are a lot crispier than other places, but they're still great with the hummus. You get PLENTY of food for your money, and the smaller tables won't fit the plates for two people! Super bummed. Tried this place tonight for date night and we were very unimpressed. The sides we got weren't bad, but the chilled soup was by far the most flavorful. The rice that came with the meat was also very nice, as was the naan we got. The kabobs however were flavorless and to our pallets, over done. Came here to try their Mediterranean food. The place was very nicely decorated. The main dishes are the meats/veggies kabob with rice and a dipping(your choice) with naan. I thought the meats were bland, and it was salty (I'm not a fan of salty food). Their naan was very thin and over fried, which made it crispy rather than soft. There tea drinks were really good, so I recommend to try those. This place won't be my place to go often, but I'll be back to try their gyros. read more

A pleasant business that you find just out and about. The smell that hits you as the doors open is just the opener to a taste performance of epic proportions. It was super quick to get your food and the staff were able to cater a large group in the facility. The atmosphere was very modern and gave a welcoming air throughout the experience. The only flaw was that the staff forgot some things here and there, but at least they tried to make up for it toward the end. Five stars because good food is what it all about. When first walking in I was not sure what to expect as this is not your dimly lit "feel good f the old country" middle eastern joint. Modern appointments and well lit with some deco style art. Comfy chairs and real wood tables and you order at the counter give it almost a cafeteria feel. I am, by no means, an expert in Mediterranean food. I would venture to guess, after having take away from Chello Grill for the first time, they are not either. The theme of the night was dry, with a side of bland. The chicken, while having an incredible flavor profile, was exceptionally dry. The "saffron" rice was probably one of the most bland, and dry, versions I have ever had. The Tah Chin, was their saffron rice (held together with something) and fried. Which turned it into something that could have been used to build an adobe home. The koobideh was dry and tough. I would love to say the vegetables were the saving grace of this meal, but unfortunately, we never got them. I used plain yogurt, drizzled with garlic olive oil to add flavor and moisture to the meal, which made it palatable. The desserts...I think they were supposed to be desserts. There were several pieces of burnt bread-like substance drizzled with (I'm assuming) a syrup of some kind. There were also a few dried dates, stuffed with almond meal and topped with coconut. Again...very, very dry. I live in the desert. I don't really want to eat it. read more

Chello Grill is pretty much a textbook example of a fast-food Mediterranean joint. You walk in, take in the wall-mounted menu, order your food, then either take a number and sit wherever you like, or take it to-go, with a self-service condiment bar sitting on the side if you'd like to add additional spices to your meal. The interior is pretty much what you'd expect. It's brightly lit, with soft pastel colors and your choice of standard or high tables for seating, complete with hard back chairs or barstools depending on your elevation. It was also very clean, which is always a plus in a keep-them-moving type of joint such as this. The menu is nice and simple, as it should be. It mainly pivots around 3 different combos, which come with your choice of 1-3 kabobs, depending on your hunger level. All of the combos come with standard sides, including naan bread, rice, veggies, and choosable sides. There's a good selection of kabobs, ranging from the usual lamb/chicken offerings and going to salmon and veggie types. A pretty wide assortment of stews is what initially caught my interest when I looked this place up, and the Karafs (celery) stew that I settled on was pretty yummy, containing a nice mixture of mint, parsley, and lime that would be perfect for a winter's day. The choosable sides consist mostly of various dips, and all the ones I tried did the job just fine, though none of them stood out as amazing. I do have to say, however, that I applaud them for adding a green chile yogurt to their menu. You just can't go wrong with green chile items in ABQ. The kabobs were pretty standard as well. I tried the lamb, chicken, and salmon types, and they were all competent, with a decent amount of flavor and juiciness, for which I was thankful. Nothing sadder than a dry kabob. Again, nothing hit me over the head with flavor, but if you're looking for perfectly serviceable kabobs, this place fits the bill. The only negative spot was the naan. It was very flat, very dry (even for naan), and kind of powdery in a way. It was also (again, even for naan), kind of tasteless. I would guess that it's some sort of mass-produced variety, though I could be mistaken, but it was the one thing I would definitely not get extras of again, unless I just happened to get a bad batch or something. For a grab and go type of place, Chello Grill does a competent job of providing a safe Mediterranean experience. If I lived close by to it, I could see it being added to the rotation of take-out places that I go to when I just want to grab something and sit on my couch at home. read more

I think I've found a new favorite place!! First time customer with absolutely no knowledge of Persian food. I know the basic Kabob but not much else. This visit was a new tasting experience that was very delightful. I had the chicken kabob with saffron rice and grilled veggies. Tasty and fresh. The side dish of beef and lentil soup was also tasty and a new favorite taste that, frankly, I would have been happy with a full bowl of that alone. The teas were fresh and made to order. The naan was a tad dry and powdery but everything else was great.
