My husband and I have eaten here before and it was good. This time was not! I ordered a cheddar cheese omelette with toast. I was served an omelette with hamburger on top, no cheese. The toast was hard as a rock. My husband ordered a hot turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy. The turkey was cold and the gravy was hot but sickening thick and the potatoes were instant. I got the meatloaf sandwich. I probably did not order the right thing as this seemed like a popular place by the amount of people in the small cafe, but it wasn't good! There are only two upsides to our family breakfast here: our server was sweet and the orange juice was good. As soon as we went in, the place was packed as can be expected post Christmas Day. Problem is, there's no dedicated area for waiting so families were packed by the door like sardines. It was about 35 degrees outside and since the tables were just thrown in the place with no regard for dining experience and no waiting area, every time the door opened people were freezing. I heard a poor woman with her baby sat by the entry say these exact words in gripe. The name list was posted on the wall OUT OF VIEW from entering guests, hidden behind curtains, so being first timers we stood there like idiots waiting to be greeted. Noone greeted us so we finally went up to ask. My poor babies and I were freezing by the door as we waited. When we found out about having to write our own names, two parties who entered AFTER us had already written their own names down. (I wondered why people appeared to keep walking to the corner to "look out the window" lol). A man with an attitude came to call the next parties to be seated. He skipped right over a family who had been waiting even before us. My husband pointed this out and the man had an attitude about it. We were finally seated and I noticed immediately the floor was slippery beneath my feet. I love the idea of eating in a dirty place! After we ordered the food came quickly...however, everything was sub-par. Chicken fried steak wasn't chicken fried at all. It was just a flat, chewy piece of ground beef patty smothered in bland gravy. The home fries were average in flavor and flaky in texture. Country omelet promised cheddar, ham, onions, and hash browns inside. It was about 1 part ham, 1/2 part onion, 6 parts hash browns. I tasted about three pieces of 1/4"x1/4" cube of ham and a small smithereen of onion. The rest was hash browns. The bacon tasted old and chewy. The waffle was okay. Wasn't even buttered and butter wasn't served on the side either. We asked for a high chair which they forgot about. So we asked again. 'Tude man from earlier brought it, still had an attitude, and it was broken. We asked for the check and they forgot to bring it so we had to ask AGAIN. An elderly lady next to us kept calling for service and kept being ignored. Someone from her table had to get up to catch a server to make a request. What kind of dining experience is this? There are no booths so it feels like you're eating in a crowded cafeteria with no sense of warmth or privacy at all. Plus the entire time we had to keep our coats on because the draft from the front door traveled even all the way to the back where we sat. Safe to say never coming back here. So disappointed in the Yelposphere for the 4 stars that drew us here to begin with. How? How do they have 4 stars?! A Denny's breakfast is better. read more

Well after driving by this place a few times in past due to the main road being blocked while the new Planet Fitness and Hobby Lobby being built we finally stopped in to have lunch here. It was quite busy but the waitress came immediately to our table to take our drink order. She came back quickly and answered my husbands questions about the lunch specials. Took myself out to breakfast. Not from this area, I google breakfast restaurants & decided to try Chelly's. Couldn't find it at first, just a little place on a row of stores in the Walmart plaza. Although there was only 1 server, she did a good job. It's was about 1pm so it wasn't that busy. My regular Breakfast was very good! Price average. I would recommend Chelly's Cafe. read more

Came here because I wanted a good breakfast after a long week of work. Walked in around 9, it wasn't busy at all. Found a seat and my drink order was taken instantly. Lots of good looking items on the menu but I went for the country fried steak and eggs. It was a good portion of steak eggs and hasbrowns cooked extra crispy like I asked. The steak was delicious and eggs were cooked perfectly. The staff was very friendly and quick with their service I'll come back here again. Update: July 1, came here again. The food remained just as delicious. What I did notice is that with a significantly busier day, the manager was ensuring that everyone that was seated had their drink order taken instantly. If not by him, I saw him pointing at tables and ensuring someone came over to get their drink orders. I really like this place and the customer service here. They continue to impress me. read more

I am always on the hunt for good food, especially breakfast spots. After an early Saturday morning errand, I decided to let yelp help feed me again. Up pops Chellie's Cafe... Thank goodness. I was greeted across the busy floor by 3 ladies who instructed me to sit anywhere I liked, but without being made to feel like I was being given the brush off. I decided to order one of their specials from the board; artichoke scramble: artichoke, spinach, sun-dried tomatoes and feta cheese with tomato slices instead of potato or mixed fruit (starting a serious dietary change on Monday), rye toast (a true vice of mine) with coffee and water. High points: First, the service... Every person in this place was pleasant without coming off as fake. I chuckled every time the 19 year old waitress called me "hon", as though she was a throwback to a diner waitress of the 40's and 50's. I call her "Flo". Even the manager/owner gets in on the service and always with a smile! The food: The scramble was even tastier than I expected! Every ingredient tasted fresh and delicious, even the tomato slices were crisp AND juicy (obviously not sitting in a pan for hours). The rye toast was buttery without being overly so, and it was butter! Not some cheap swipe over an oil wheel. I will say, the toast was a teensy bit stale, but that is the only ding on the quality of the food. The coffee was fresh and hot without a hint of Being less than perfect. Food quality: A (yeah, seriously) The ONLY real qualm I had (other than the itty bitty issue with the toast) was portion size. Now... Second, Chelly's has the best breakfast in the AV! You can't go wrong with the ABC, veggie, or Denver omelets. Everything we've ordered has been very fresh and tasty. We never have that "greasy, heavy all day breakfast food feeling" we're all used to from other breakfast restaurants. Howie's waffle is mind-blowing for kids. Homemade, warm muffins? Yes, please!!! I'm personally not quite sure what all the fuss is about this place. I decided to try something different, so I took myself and my 1-year-old daughter here for breakfast. It was mediocre, at best. I was seated right away in the cafeteria-like atmosphere and then asked (after about 2 minutes) if I'd like something to drink...well yes I would LOVE a drink since I'm at a restaurant. So my drink came then the server finally got to me (at this point, it wasn't that busy). I ordered and my cottage cheese came out first for my daughter, so that was good....but that's kinda where the good ended. Food was ok but a small portion, I asked for a coffee cake muffin but I got something w/nuts in it. Thankfully there's no nut allergy and I didn't feel like waiting longer, so we ate it (it was ok, a little dry, not fantastic). I sat for over 15 min with an empty cup in front of me with bussers & servers waking past me multiple times, none of them so much as glancing at us to see how we're doing. The table of 4 that got seated next to me sat there for a good 10-15 min before their server greeted them and took their order(they were ready to get up and leave-which I don't blame them). As I was getting my money ready to pay and picking up my daughter, the Busser was there to clear my table....hello, I haven't even walked away yet, geez! Ok, so I walked back to pay and she asked if I wanted change. YEP! They're not getting a $6 tip on $13! A server should never ask if you want change, they should say "let me take care of this for you" or "I'll be right back with your change" or something like that. I left a tip (though I'm not sure it was really deserved) and as I'm walking out, I notice a server & busser getting up from a table where they were sitting together, eating their breakfast! When there's a significant wait for a beverage refill, a table to be greeted and you've got about 15 people standing outside, waiting to be seated, you should NOT be sitting (especially in the dining room at a table that a customer should be at), munching on your breakfast! Don't get me wrong, I'm in the serving field too, and I know sometimes breaks are required, but not in that fashion. Based on this poor experience all around, I will not be returning...I'll stick with Ottos, Karen's or the Easy Egg (which all greatly surpass this place in food and service)! read more

My boyfriend and I came here for the first time, we were seated fairly quickly, less than 5 minutes or so. Our server was very friendly and attentive, our food also came out really fast. I ordered some chilaquiles and my boyfriend ordered a breakfast burrito, both were really good! The atmosphere here was great! Very lively.
