As mom and pop cafe's go this one is one of my favorites. Sometimes the service can be a little slow but they make up for it with the food. Homemade Muffins! Homemade Preserves! Homemade Salsa!! First of all, if you're looking for a great breakfast spot, go to Jackie's Cafe (830 W Ave L, Lancaster) instead. When I asked to replace the olives that came in the omelette I ordered with mushrooms, the waitress told me: "We don't make substitutions, but we can do that for $1.50." Since the omelette was already over 10 bucks I said no thanks. I was ready to walk out of the place but we had already ordered coffee, which by the way was like $2.50 per cup. That's more expensive than Starbucks!!!! The food was sub-par, as was the coffee. I don't know how they get away with charging obscene prices for poor service and food. read more

I'm personally not quite sure what all the fuss is about this place. I decided to try something different, so I took myself and my 1-year-old daughter here for breakfast. It was mediocre, at best. I was seated right away in the cafeteria-like atmosphere and then asked (after about 2 minutes) if I'd like something to drink...well yes I would LOVE a drink since I'm at a restaurant. So my drink came then the server finally got to me (at this point, it wasn't that busy). I ordered and my cottage cheese came out first for my daughter, so that was good....but that's kinda where the good ended. Food was ok but a small portion, I asked for a coffee cake muffin but I got something w/nuts in it. Thankfully there's no nut allergy and I didn't feel like waiting longer, so we ate it (it was ok, a little dry, not fantastic). I sat for over 15 min with an empty cup in front of me with bussers & servers waking past me multiple times, none of them so much as glancing at us to see how we're doing. The table of 4 that got seated next to me sat there for a good 10-15 min before their server greeted them and took their order(they were ready to get up and leave-which I don't blame them). As I was getting my money ready to pay and picking up my daughter, the Busser was there to clear my table....hello, I haven't even walked away yet, geez! Ok, so I walked back to pay and she asked if I wanted change. YEP! They're not getting a $6 tip on $13! A server should never ask if you want change, they should say "let me take care of this for you" or "I'll be right back with your change" or something like that. I left a tip (though I'm not sure it was really deserved) and as I'm walking out, I notice a server & busser getting up from a table where they were sitting together, eating their breakfast! When there's a significant wait for a beverage refill, a table to be greeted and you've got about 15 people standing outside, waiting to be seated, you should NOT be sitting (especially in the dining room at a table that a customer should be at), munching on your breakfast! Don't get me wrong, I'm in the serving field too, and I know sometimes breaks are required, but not in that fashion. Based on this poor experience all around, I will not be returning...I'll stick with Ottos, Karen's or the Easy Egg (which all greatly surpass this place in food and service)! read more

If you are looking for monster portions of food you have to drench in sauce or seasoning to enjoy... Chellys is not the place for you. Everything on the menu tastes like you went to a favorite relatives house and were served their specialty. It's a pleasure eating there every time. read more

My Uncle invited me for a late breakfast since I was in the area. I was looking forward to a good meal because of the great reviews but unfortunately there is nothing positive to say about the food. I had pancakes, scrambled eggs, fruit, and tried the hash browns. My pancakes were cold and hard on the bottom. My eggs weren't fully cooked so I didn't even eat them. Fruit was sour and mostly melon, why does the fruit taste like lemon? Hash browns weren't cooked all the way through crunchy and burnt on top and cold and mushy in the center. The waitress who was friendly and attentive, asked if everything was okay and I told her the food was inedible. She apologized but didn't even offer to bring out a fresh plate. I'm 8 months pregnant if something doesn't taste good I'm not eating it. I actually felt bad for my Uncle because he ended up paying for both meals even though I hardly touched mine. He told me it wasn't a big deal, he just won't be coming back because his omelet wasn't that great either. I ended up going home and making something to eat because after an hour at this place I was starving. read more

Visited @ 11am on a Saturday. Busy place. I see that as a plus. Must have good food cause there are other options close by. Well, my two eggs and turkey sausage with hash browns and a muffin breakfast was good but my wife's four piece fried chicken with fries and a toasted roll was pretty bad. My initial review of this new restaurant was a 1-star rating. However, with the response and apology from the business itself, I can see that it does take customers' complaints into consideration. I believe Chelly's Cafe has potential to succeed, but like any new restaurant, it is still figuring out the operation aspects. The food here is decent, the prices are good. My only concern is that when I was here, the restaurant was understaffed. I'm sure given a period of adjustment, Chelly's Cafe will prosper. read more

My wife and I went to Chelly's Cafe for the 3rd time since the opening three weeks ago. They seem to be on to something as the parking lot was packed and folks were waiting for tables to open up. Seems word has gotten around quickly. The staff was a little overwhelmed by the level of patronage, but from what I have seen in their desire to serve, they will adjust accordingly as their business model becomes more clear and the staff level adjusted. Having operated restaurants in the past, nothing is worse than having way more guests arrive than what was reasonably expected. Nice problem to have, though, in these times. Other than the short wait for a table to open up, everything was great, food, service, price. Way too much to eat-we took almost half of it home. First time that my wife and I have had breakfast at this establishment and we were pleasantly pleased. The coffee was hot, the food selection was plentiful and the food was served hot. Our family loves chelly's and it looks like everyone else in town does too because it's always super busy! They have such a wide variety of omelettes and breakfast specials that no one would walk away disappointed! It's a cute, friendly little diner who does classic food well. Came here for my birthday for a birthday breakfast. It was pretty good. I just moved to the AV and wasn't sure what some non-chain restaurants would be like out here. I was surprised. I ordered a bacon omelette with a side of grits and a homemade muffin. (Delicious) and a cup of coffee. I finished most of my meal and took the homemade muffin home and had it later that day. We are hard core creatures of habit. We rarely try new (to us) places, we find what we like and we stick with it. We finally tried Chelly's and were pleasantly surprised. When I first opened the door, it was loud and crowded, very. We hadn't even stepped inside yet when we were greeted. OK, might be okay after all... We didn't make it to our hotel breakfast at 9am. So we decided to go to what we know, Ihop. Fortunately, it was packed and had a wait. So, I consulted Yelp and the best rated nearby breakfast place was Chelly's. We ordered an egg white omelette, bacon, hashbrowns, and toast for myself. My wife had chorizo with eggs, and beans. For drinks I had fresh squeezed orange juice and wife a simple water. I'm really picky about my orange juice. Usually, it is just some type of "orange drink" or concentrate or even super watered down orange juice at buffet or hotel breakfast type places. At chelly's one could taste the freshness! Wish I had this cafe near where I lived. Also the waitresses are very friendly and attentive. read more
