Solidly okay, but mostly disappointing. The crab rangoons were definitely the highlight. Unlike a lot of places, there was actually a large amount of "crab," not just cream cheese. If that had been the only item we got, I would give them 4 stars. I also ordered the orange chicken and the chicken fried rice. Both were fine but had zero flavor, and the chicken was very dry. This is our neighborhood Americanized Chinese food place, and it's been great. We always pick it up ourselves because it's so close. They are fast at making the food even on Friday and Saturday nights. What I like about this place is that food is always hot, the meat is always good, the vegetables are always fresh- better quality. The portion sizes are really generous and is appropriately priced. We've had and liked: Crab rangoons- I agree with the other review, it's a lot of fried dough, would love more filling egg drop soup- standard, eggy pot stickers- tasty sweet and sour chicken- this is always great shrimp fried rice- good chicken fried rice- good, standard beef kow with vegetables- always good beef and broccoli- always good. read more

Cheap. Easy. Fast. Not me, silly! I'm talking about delivery from Cheng's Chopsticks. Since moving to Logan Square a couple of years ago, I've been trying in vain to find a decent place for chinese food delivery. Eventually I just gave up. But then, a couple weeks ago, I spied Cheng's on Yelp, and lo and behold, it was in my neighborhood, and the reviews were very positive. I decided to give it a try. First of all, the menu is huge, and most of the dishes are available in three sizes, something I've never seen before. The prices are unbelievably reasonable. I was really hungry when I placed my order so I overdid it a bit, but hello, chinese food leftovers are the best! I was quoted about an hour for delivery, but it came in thirty minutes. Everything was piping hot and the containers were practically overflowing. Egg roll: C;. A little grease is not only not usually a problem, but it's almost welcome in chinese food, but this was almost overwhelmingly greasy. But it was free with my order, so I can't complain too much. Would likely skip again as there are plenty of other appetizers to choose. I'll have to get the pot stickers everyone's been raving about. Sesame chicken : this is a B+. As has been mentioned, they use all white meat. White meat in chinese food is the unicorn, and it's why I almost never order from most places. It's pretty easy to use dark meat, or worse, "mystery meat" when it's a dish that's breaded, but it's all boneless chicken breast at Cheng's. Some of it was a little overcooked, but overall, this was a win. Vegetable fried rice: A-; tons of fresh vegetables in this, and "good" vegetables were used; none of the cheap "filler" ones. The veggies were nice and crunchy and not overcooked. Chicken and broccoli: B+. This is not generally a very flavorful dish, but it was fresh and well-prepared (again, all white meat). If I'm in the mood for something plain and simple, I would definitely get this again. Garlic beef: C-; I didn't find this to be very garlicky, and the sauce was rather sweet but also a little spicy. Despite this, it was pretty bland and one-dimensional. So I wasn't exactly blown away by the food, but for the value and convenience, I don't think I can do much better, so Cheng's looks to be my new go-to for chinese food delivery. 3.5 stars. read more

I grew up outside of Chinatown, so I was spoiled to having inexpensive AND good Chinese/Chinese-American food readily available. Now that I live in Logan Square, I have been searching for something on par on days when I don't feel like driving too far from home. I have tried 3 other restaurants in the area and I am happy to have finally of found it!! Items ordered chicken wings with fried rice (upgraded to beef for +$1) dinner special. The box was overflowing with fried rice and 4 huge wings, egg roll and a soda. Small order of pork lo mein. Boyfriend scooped some into his bowl and it barely looked like he made a dent in the take out box. Pot stickers were perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Small egg foo young came with two huge patties and a small container of rice. Gravy was pretty good and not overly salted. We were hungry and I over ordered. So obviously there was tons of leftovers. But then again, there would of been leftovers regardless if we only ordered two entrees! Price is extremely reasonable, less greasy, and more of a selection when compared to other local Chinese restaurants in the area. Great lunch and dinner specials. Fresh ingredients. Large portions. The have brown rice for those who do not want white rice. Food is ready super fast (within 15- 20 minutes of ordering). Interior is clean and friendly staff. I just wish they were open later! Went here two times...first time thought it was a decent option for average Chinese carry out. The second time ended in multiple effects of MSG. Their food must be loaded of it cause both my husband and I were impacted with facial pressure and stomach pains. Told ourselves never again. I can see this place off my balcony it's so close, and so, in the months leading up to its opening, I kept glancing in to check on its progress. Early indications of the kind of Chinese restaurant it would manifest were disappointing -- looked just like every fast foot bistro. But once it finally opened, I gave it a try -- and my second-guessing was in vain. This place is a terrific step up from the typical Chinese dive, even if, from a distance, it looks questionably bland. As you'd expect, the menu is very large with the usual crop of dishes. As many other reviewers have noted, the chicken meat is white, which is astounding for this kind of place. The portions are ludicrously oversized for their moderate prices -- my large order of fried rice lasted three extra days as left-overs. And best of all, they sell brown rice. Yes, brown rice. If you're ever in a pinch and need to stock up on the stuff, this is pretty convenient. Clever Chinese up-selling. Cheng's Chopsticks comes highly recommended if you're in the area and in the mood for this kind of Chinese fare. I'd get delivery or take-out, though, as the inside is small, and the ill-advised placement of a fan on the ceiling (hanging just beneath the lights) casts a seizure-inducing strobe effect over all the tables. so far, I really like this place. As others have mentioned, the chicken is White Meat!! This is HUGE for me as I tend not to eat meat dishes from Chinese restaurants because I am paranoid. Not here! We ordered: Orange Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, Veggie Egg Rolls, Vegetable Lo Mein, and Mongolian Fried Rice (substituted pork for the shrimp due to allergy). All of this food came out to under $30! We had leftovers of everything due to the huge portions. Everything was delicious - I will definitely be back. They packed everything we needed, forks, tons of soy and sweet and sour sauce, fortune cookies and some really nice chopsticks. The place is clean, small, cute. There about 4 chairs along the wall (I guess to wait for your take out) and about a dozen other chairs scattered around the few tables they have. I appreciated that the person who took my order was very sweet about our substitutions: no shrimp, not spicy, etc. If anything she was like "OK, no problem" They take credit cards, with a $10 minimum and also deliver to a limited area. A suggestion: there are a lot of items on the menu, I was really confused so I just started ordering individual items. Don't be overwhelmed like me, start by checking out the Lunch specials, which also lists the price for AFTER lunch. It may be a better deal than ordering by item, like I did. This is my first time ordering from Cheng's Chopsticks. My story with them started with me craving Chinese. Searched Yelp for a good Chinese restaurant and this came up with a high rating. I was hoping to see more pictures of their entrees, but they will come with time. I called them up and a polite woman with a very pleasent voice answered the phone. I'm feeling good so far about this place. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken, steamed Rice, Plain Friend Rice, and a can of Soda. Delivery was fast. got my order within 25 minutes and the delivery man was very nice. They lost three starts because of the following; 1- When I got my Receipt I saw that I was charged about $3.25 extra for an "[Open order]" Hmmm what is that? $3.25 is not a big deal you say, but I have paid for Delivery + nice tip and I pay extra for something I don't know about. I would like to know what it was. I called up to investigate, and what happened is that the lady on the phone failed to mention the extra charge for substituting the Steamed for Fried Rice when I asked if I could do that, and Also Charged for the Side of Steamed rice THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO COME WITH THE ENTREE! 2- They FORGOT to put a Chopstick with my order. I'm a Chopstick person when it comes to Sushi and Chinese! Why did you forget something VERY important to me! You cannot make up for bland, over-cooked food with salty soy sauce. the dumplings are greasy, the "Large Shrimp" were over cooked, and the whole dish was just ... bland. And I don't even know how to describe just how lame the ribs were. When we have a craving for Old School Americanized Chinese food, Cheng's is our usual choice. The food has been pretty consistent and we haven't been too disappointed with it. Good: Beef Kow--tender beef, nice amount of broccoli, pea pods and baby corn. BBQ Pork Fried Rice--tons of pork, a little on the greasy side but in a good way Kung Pao Chicken-well made, all white meat chicken, nice spice. Pass: Crab Rangoon--too much wrapper, not enough filling. And the wrapper isn't that crispy either BBQ Ribs--nice Asian BBq flavor, but the meat is really tough. Egg Rolls--mushy filling. I can't comment on the digs as my husband always picks up the food on his way home from work. But I've ordered via GH and the food is always ready for pick up at the quoted time. I'm always on the lookout for new delivery and take out places in the area. I had noticed this on a trek to parson's+scofflaw one night and made the mental note about them. Cheng's is a pretty classic American-style chinese take-out/delivery place. That's not a bad thing in any which way as I always have a craving for some General Tso's or Sesame Chicken. Once that craving came up again, it was take-out time. I did my usual of sesame chicken, potstickers, and some crab rangoon. I knew that I would be working on the sesame chicken for two days, so I wanted some sort of control for comparisons sake. I thought the potstickers were exactly what I was looking for. I generally like to have them steamed and they really hit the spot. The crab rangoon had a good amount of filling in it as well and was pretty classic crab rangoon. I was definitely a fan of the sesame chicken as well. I'm glad it didn't have that over-fried or sometimes too buttery taste to it (and this is from a guy who loves french cuisine, but sometimes you can taste pure butter on other places sesame chicken) as that kind of sesame chicken ends up feeling like a giant lump in my stomach. This didn't happen here, but it does need to be noted that a large is definitely a lot of chicken. So, know that it can really feed 3 people if you want it in one go, or just do like I did and slowly work on it over the course of 2 days. Cheng's would be at 3.5 stars if Yelp finally put in the half star (though I know we'd then be complaining about not having quarter stars as well). But, it doesn't get into that 4* category for me. I finally found delicious American Chinese food that isn't served in goopy, tasteless sauces! Also, fantasticly rich wonton soup and some of the best egg rolls I've had. We ordered Kung Pao Chicken (they use white meat!), Orange Chicken, and Mongolian Beef (old style) for entrees. The beef had a wonderful charcoal/smoky flavor. The smaller portion was a perfect size (I think the larger portions are for large groups) and we still had plenty of leftovers. Super fast delivery (even on a Friday night), too. This restaurant at the time of writing is a little under a year old. I live close literally one door down and I go here all the time when I'm in town. It's my Friday lunch routine. Absolutely great bang for your buck. For Chinese food the taste is actually very good. The shrimp fried rice that comes with your combos is amazing, with some Sriricha it will fill any stomach. I usually base my Chinese restaurant grading on the egg rolls, well this place has surpassed most and the crab Rangoon actually has crab in it! This place is great! I cannot rave enough about their solid white meat chicken. Anyone who frequents chinese knows how rare that is! The store front is a little run-down, but don't judge a book by it's cover. The food is pretty great. Our regular menu orders include the crab rangoon, egg rolls, kung pao beef, mongolian beef, sweet and sour chicken, won ton soup and egg drop soup. Their soups are alright. The beef is alright, but the chicken is where it's at! A quick tip: Definitely get a lunch or dinner special. SO much food!
