I have to say this is the BEST Southern Cuisine I have experienced in the entire Bay Area! The restaurant (located as a storefront in a large shopping center) is simple, understated, and very casual. I enjoyed the food...it took a minute to come . I'm really happy for the variety especially this type of variety for a change dang it!! I had the catfish ( moist and hot..tasty without the tartar before I got up to get some). Collard greens ( I like mine a little more vinegary) but honestly there are many ways to cook it and these were solid. The Mac and cheese was really good with large elbows ( I always have trouble finding large enough ones for my recipes)...they were mild on the cheese but it was a good combo of buttery cheese. I ate all of the cornbread...it tasted like it had honey in it. They are a little pricey. I had hoped they had a lunch special price so I could coerce my coworkers nearby to come for lunch ( I went after work). Doesn't sound like they offer that...so it might be a hard sell since everyone is watching their coins. The serving size was good though. I will come again maybe..try to make it once a month to support ( I want them to stay around!) and try the other foods. They have a Sunday brunch (1st Sundays).. maybe I will try that. I was surprised on the decor and how nice the set up was. I ordered the seafood gumbo and cherry kool-aid. I ordered and paid for it first and then found a seat. The wait time was kinda long for a bowl of gumbo. The gumbo had great flavor and plenty of crab, sausage and shrimp. I'll probably ask for the rice to be put on the side next time. I saw this soul food place in Dublin and had been wanting to try it. It was a little bit difficult to find the restaurant but the best is to park across from the theatre and walk there. It used to be Red Tractor which was one of my favorite restaurants. I ordered chicken and seafood gumbo ($28) which I think too salty and lack of rice. It was a little bit too watery. Gumbo supposed to be a little bit thicker so I gave it a 6/10. My friend ordered fried catfish plate ($22) which he said was delicious. The greens were good but the corn bread didn't have much flavor. This is pay-first then wait for your food type of restaurant so there was not much service provided other than bringing the food to our table. The young lady who took our order was wearing something too revealing in the restaurant. She was showing more than cleavage and bras. Wonderful experience at this Southern gem!!! We heard about this Southern restaurant opening few months back so we were very eager to check it out. We reached few mins before they open so there was not much crowd... they have ample parking lots in front . We were greeted very sweetly & our order was taken very quickly we were notified that it will take some time (25-30 mins) since they prepare fresh we were ok with that. We ordered ToGo . We were enjoying the beautiful place while listening to some gospel music, slowly the crowd started coming in.. We ordered- Southern Fried Chicken plate with 2 sides - candied yams & baked beans. Shrimp Creole Seafood Gumbo. Amazing !! Amazing !! Amazing!! That's the only way I can describe the fried Chicken we were little worried that it might get soggy but that was not the case... it was juicy, crunchy & delicious.. I forgot to take some hot sauce but trust me it didn't matter at all. We finished the entire plate so couldn't resist it. We found this gem in Dublin CA and are now looking for reasons to go back! The Country Fried Chicken plate was a hit, looked so fresh and yummy but not one drop of grease or oil when you bite into it. The Shrimp Creole was so tasty that we fought over the portions after the first bite. Fresh Juicy Shrimp, in that so wonderful Creole sauce! The Seafood Gumbo was full of Amazingly fresh Seafood in that refreshingly tasty Gumbo. We will be back for more! The chicken was fresh, crispy, and hot however there was no flavor at all. Not greasy at all but the chicken was quite bland for my palate. The green beans were too soggy and over cooked. Mac and cheese had a good flavor but it wasn't cheesy enough and it was more boiled noodles as you can see in the photo. Wish the cheese was all up in the noodles. 4/5 Cornbread was nice and moist and not overly sweet. 5/5 Cherry Kool Aid was good and brough back childhood memories :) 5/5 Caramel cake was off the hook but the cake was more on the dense side. I recommend this! 1/5 Peach cobbler was too watery and runny. It was not edible and more like a soup. Finally!! Authentic Southern comfort food in our neighborhood. This is what I have been missing in our area and we now have. The fried chicken is perfectly fried and seasoned. The Collard greens are not too soggy and perfect little tang. I love the corn bread. I've been here twice now and their service is friendly and inviting. My second outing to this restaurant was going to be make or break for me. One year later and a new attitude. I got fried chicken, yams, and macaroni and cheese. Well, this time they got it right for California version of soul food. The chicken was hot, seasoned and a decent size. Three pieces a good value. The macaroni and cheese was not overly seasoned and the flavor was balanced. The yams were actually balanced in their taste and quantity. The cornbread was ok. The attendant at the cash register gets 5 stars. Professional, personable and attentive. I move them into a parallel position with Carmen & Family Bar-B-Q over in Hayward. I am now willing to try their brunch special. Incredibly i have not found some great southern catfish from the Mississippi River. Saw them on my Instagram leaving work from Livermore there 19 minutes away... when I arrived it was a nice place with the music box there was a young lady at the register very dry not friendly just standing there not very welcoming the young man very professional welcoming same friendly attitude from his Instagram and TikTok videos...i ordered the chicken two wings and thigh mac & cheese and yams and slice of 7-Up cake to go..... I received a lot of drumettes which I absolutely hate and one thigh it had absolutely no flavor I put honey on top of it I was highly disappointed the mac & cheese had the funniest aftertaste after two bites i was done ..The yams were OK . The cornbread dry no flavor no butter no honey. And the cake was a large slice a nice serving but because it was sitting out it was not fresh it was not moist once again disappointed for $ 32$ .... Friendly and quick service. You order at the counter with the cashier first then sit down. We ordered the catfish plate with candied yams and collard greens and the shrimp creole. Both dishes were so delicious! The cornmeal batter on the catfish was sooo crispy and it was nicely seasoned. The shrimp creole was rich and full of flavor! Came here with my sons on Juneteenth and it was crowded. We waited for about 25 minutes for our food. My son had their oxtails and my other son had chicken. Both of them said their food was cool. The sides was macaroni cheese, greens, yams. I ordered oxtails too. The young man who took our order was pleasant and patient with us. I even ordered the red Kool aid for Juneteenth. It was also decent but just a tad too sweet. The cornbread is good too. Portions are decent as well. We didn't get any dessert this time but next time I will try them out. But complaints from my family was that the cornbread was dry, fried chicken meat dried and over fried, and that the thin slices of fried fish was also dry and too much coating. it was a disappointing meal after spending $100 plus...the table next to us had 5 people and they also complained that their fried chicken and cornbread were dry and cooked too long. They left most of their food uneaten on their plates. We ordered a variety of dishes to try- Fried Catfish-this was my favorite! Large pieces of fresh catfish with a crispy corneal crust. The fish was tender and cooked perfectly. Fried Chicken-well seasoned and crispy! The chicken was still juicy. Bbq Beef Brisket-really tender bbq beef brisket in bbq sauce. The meat was tender but the sauce was too sweet for my taste. Chicken and Sausage Gumbo-this dish had so much flavor and a little heat. My youngest son loved this gumbo. Sides-we tried six different sides with done hits and misses! Our faves were the cornbread, fries and veggies. Cornbread was sweet and moist with crispy edges. We finished all four. Collard greens were tender. I stumble on Cherie's on IG and been wanting to try for a couple of months. I finally gave them a try on Sunday afternoon. When I arrived, there were two people ahead of me and a couple of people in the seating area. They have soft RnB playing not too loud, just right. I came to try the oxtails, but they were out. They were also out of MacNCheese. I ordered the Southern Fried Chicken Plate which included two sides and cornbread muffin and a Cherry Koolaid. I ordered to-go, and I didn't check my bag before I left. The cornbread muffin wasn't in my bag and there were 6 wingettes instead of 3 pieces of chicken. No biggie, but that should've been mentioned when I placed my order. The chicken and yams were good and seasoned to perfection. The koolaid was good as well, just like home-made. This place is about 25 mins. away so I wouldn't go out my way again to give them another try, but if I'm in the area, I'd try them again. read more
