Nice little place with good seating. On our visit, it seemed a bit stuffy, so maybe they needed to have more venting on. Your order at the counter and they deliver the food. In addition to the eat in people, there were quite a few take out orders. One good thing they should do is tell you the chicken is cooked to order, and that it could take 20-25 mins. They didn't tell us big I'd heard the counter staff telling another customer. So, a bit of a wait for lunch. The two of us split a 3 piece dried chicken plate with green beans and candied yams. Wow! The chicken brought me back to my childhood, with my mom making hers. Perfectly crunchy, and perfectly done inside. Great taste too. The sides were also very reminiscent of homemade, in a good way. The beans were soft (good if you liked them this way), the cornbread was delicious and the yams were just right. Overall, we had a great experience! I'm back to try more, love the food! The service was good, however it takes a little longer than it should like 30 mins after ordering, but they are always really friendly at the register. The menu board needs to be updated, they no longer make the Smoked Barbecue Beef Brisket Plate, but it's still up there, just get some chalk and cross it out or something! Also I noticed this time, they have Louisiana brand hot sauce on the tables along with the Crystal hot sauce. Nice touch... The Louisiana has a little bit more heat than Crystal. This time we ordered: Shrimp Creole (4 stars $23) They give a good amount of tailless peeled shrimp, cooked perfect, served with sauces over steamed rice. The sauce is really good, love the hint of the butter. If they want to elevate to 5 Stars, I think a green onion garnish would be great. Carmel Cake (3 stars $6) The cake was a little dry, but the Carmel filling and frosting was really good. Baked beans (3 stars $5) Nothing special it was ok. Has the right amount of sweetness and the texture was creamy. Arnold Palmer (3 Stars Large $3.75 Small $2.75) They only have sweet tea so it was a little too sweet, but if you like sweet tea, the you'll like this one. The lemonade seems to be standard stuff. Convenient location in the Hacienda crossing plaza. It opened at 12 and when we arrived at 12:30p it was already filling up. We're lucky we ordered when we did because after us the line got so long there were no more tables and a few patrons walked out before ordering. Food tastes home cooked! 1. Fried chicken was amazing... the thighs had juicy meat with the right amount of crisp. 2. Smothered chicken - fell off of the bone but I think it would've been better served over rice because of the amount of gravy. 3. Mac and cheese: three cheeses and none of that fake sauce stuff The only suggestion I have... make sure you have time to wait for your food to be cooked fresh. This is not a quick meal service. Five stars for the fried chicken and yams. The collard greens were good though I prefer collards prepared with ham. No complaints since the greens were listed cooked with turkey. The service was great - welcoming and courteous. The restaurant is clean and well maintained. I would have sat down to enjoy my meal if I had the time. Holy wow! This review is based on my work catering for an employee who is retiring. I found out about this spot about a month ago and made a note to try it soon. Well today was the day and let me say food is absolutely fantastic. As soon as I walked into the kitchen at work I could smell the food especially the barbecue sauce. Options were brisket, three different types of chicken wings, Mac and cheese, cornbread, salad which the green was a great option. Southern lemonade and tea. I barely put pressure from my fork to the brisket and broke away so easily and quick. Brisket was dang good. Each chicken option was fantastic and cooked perfect. The Mac & cheese was hands down best I've ever had by far. Collard greens this was only my 2nd time ever having and was very good. But the cornbread wow. Wish I had more and a glass of milk with a spoon. Cornbread was perfect like it use to be when I was a kid. I mixed the Lemonade and tea together and I need this in my house. I will be taking the family here soon to experience in person. I beyond highly recommend this spot or your missing out on one of the better restaurants in Dublin and the general area! read more

It wasn't in Vallejo and wasn't in any place with a large southern population. It was in Dublin at Cherie's Southern Kitchen This place is now my go-to stop for Southern cuisine. It's not a Popeye's or flashy-style eatery, but Cherie's Southern Kitchen has no overly Southern theme, other than the wonderfully classic music. It seems they have placed every ounce of energy into the things that genuinely matter to Southern culture: good food, hospitality, and music. The owner spent her money wisely by investing in quality staff, developing a positive service, and offering high-quality food. For a time, in this neck of the woods, I would hear many new business people praise the saying "'fake it until you make it,' but I'm here to tell you that some people stand by the product they are producing, and this is one of them. Cherie's Southern Kitchen says we stand by food, and their food is good, real good, from their gumbo, to the yams, oxtails, to the catfish (it's real catfish, not disguised tilapia) (Baby, it was like grooving on a Sunday afternoon...with some Let's Get it On) PS......The fried chicken was fried and seasoned perfectly. If you would like a little spice, I recommend adding hot sauce and asking for a chunk. That's right, because calling it a slice wouldn't be an accurate description of the chocolate cake for dessert. Oh Cherie's Southern Kitchen is so delightful. Located in Dublin's Hacienda Crossings Shopping Center, it is a prime location for dining any time of day. I grew up frequenting this plaza for Fuddruckers, a movie, then Cold Stone or Starbucks, but now 3/4 of those are gone. Really hope Cherie stays! We arrived around 6pm and was told it would be a 50 minute wait, fine by us as long as no one gets hangry. They have an old school jukebox that I assume works, though I didn't look close enough to check. I loved the jazz music they played, and it helped our fussy baby dance it out :) I wish I took pictures of the food, but we dug in as soon as we got it lol. It came in takeout containers while other parties dining in before us had proper tableware, so I assume they may just be understaffed in terms of cleaning tables/dishes and whatnot. Didn't bother us at all as we cared more about how good the food was! Fried Catfish Plate ($22): Spoiler alert, the food was delicious. This came with two sides, and I chose candied yams and mac & cheese at the recommendation of the cashier. Ugh everything was SO good, and it wasn't just because I was hungry. Catfish was fried to crispy tenderness, and no bones! Not too salty or overseasoned either. Candied yams reminded me of fall with the sweet cinnamon and ginger taste. Small Sweet Tea ($2.75): Thumbs up! Reminds me of the yellow Vita Chrysanthemum Tea if anyone knows what I'm referring to. I was curious at first why it wasn't brought out first since it came 50 minutes later with our food, but after washing everything down with sweet tea it all made sense :) Southern Fried Chicken Plate ($21): Hubby was the hangriest. But I must say I've never seen him so excited a dish was so good LOL the sudden mood shift was uncanny. He could not stop raving about the fried chicken on the way home. So get it! I had wanted to try the chicken & seafood gumbo ($28), but it was already sold out so I'll be back for lunch to try it! OMG!!! I spotted Ms Cherie and her son Bryce last month on Mornings on 2 (channel 2 News) They were introducing their southern style food to the public. The food is so delectable and satisfying. The food needs no salt no peppers no nothing but a bottle of hot sauce. Oh, I forgot, also a Hardy appetite, and don't forget the napkins. The oxtails are to die for and the greens are so nice and tender and smoky. The establishment is very clean very well lit and just beautiful decor. The service was great and very, very friendly. My daughter even asked if they could build a small hotel next-door so you can go and relax after eating. LOL!! I must say that was the very best lunch that I've had in a long long time. Order at counter, Pay, Food brought to ur table of choice in 5 minutes. Offerings: Combos, Specialites, Wings, drinks, desserts, sides.... Eats: Smothered Oxtail plate, bowl of rice, cornbread (30) -3 large pieces oxtails with tender, juicy meat falling off the bone. Natural juices. Not reheated. -white long grain soft & fluffy. It is hard to get good Southern comfort food around here.... until Cherie's. Oxtail and Shrimp Creole are our favorites! Oxtail are falling off the bones and huge portions! Fried Chicken, smothered chicken and gumbo are also really good. Corn bread were also really delish - I was too full so we brought them all home. Service are also great! They were very patient with our questions every time. When we came the first time, they were shorthanded so the wait was long. They were very apologetic and gave us free sides to tide our hunger. Yesterday I went to Cherie's for lunch with my sister and cousin. We were there when it opened at 12:00pm , there were a couple people ahead of us no big deal. We didn't get our food until 1:00pm the fish wasn't hot and it was greasy , and the Mac and cheese wasn't very cheesy . The service was horrible no one assured us the food would be coming soon. Meanwhile they were doing a huge cartering order also. I've been there plenty of times and the young man who usually works the register does an amazing job . Instead there was some younger women that didn't do a good job. After waiting forever for the food we waiting forever to get our dessert . The fried chicken is amazing, and the mac and cheese is just as good! This place is clearly a local favorite it's my second day back, and they were busy again, which is always a great sign. The vibe is incredibly comfortable, with a playlist that had me singing and dancing along to every song. One thing to note they have a different menu on Sundays, which is a nice touch. Bottom line, you're getting great food and a welcoming atmosphere. Just get there early and be patient because they do get busy! From what I've seen, there's usually one person holding down the front, but even with that, the hospitality is still top-tier. Highly recommend! Second time at Cherie's, my guy wanted to go back for his birthday dinner, since our first visit was quite deliriously memorable. Like two kids on Christmas Eve, the anticipation of a fabulous meal was 45 min away! Off we went, we arrived and there was a party of 20+ finishing up and several tables were occupied. We ordered at the counter, one oxtail dinner with 2 sides & cornbread muffin (not a muffin, but a square slice), one fried chicken dinner (3 wings) w/ mac n cheese & collards and the cornbread , one red koolaid & one bottled (1.50) water as they only have sweet beverages with diet coke as the only non sugar option, $85 w/tip. I was assuming 3 full wings, then realized I kinda wanted a thigh, went back up and asked to change my order to two wings and a thigh, nope, not possible. So, the menu board said add a thigh, wing or leg for $2.50, I opted for that, however, the cashier asked another worker how much for a thigh and I was told $4.50. When I mentioned that your menu board clearly says $2.50, she replied that's for a leg. I said well, that's not what your board says. I didnt want to argue or hold up the line, so I reluctantly paid the $4.50. After some time, they brought my guys koolaid, no water. When we asked about the bottle of water, she said, oh, I'm sorry, we don't have bottled water and she brought a cup of tap water. So, was charged $1.50 for tap water. When our food finally arrived, I had some very fried, (a bit over fried) crunchy chicken wing pieces, not whole wings, oxtails were tender, mac n cheese was good, yams were good but the collards tasted off, disappointing as they are our favorite. The most offputting thing was, with a dining room full of customers eating dinner, a worker pushed a full garbage can full of trash, thru the dining room and out the front door, right past the full tables... Plastic silverware, no refills offered. Sad to say, we probably won't be making the 45 min drive again anytime soon. Wanted so much to love this restaurant as there aren't many good southern/soul food options around. Amazing food! We got the fried chicken combo plate and added a side of gravy. It was the best fried chicken I've ever had!! We also had the Gumbo. Taste was amazing, but I do wish there was a little more rice in it. The sides were tasty too, we had mac and cheese and collard greens. On to the corn bread: so moist! It was the BEST corn bread I've ever had. And for dessert we had peach cobbler and banana pudding. Both were good. I've had better desserts elsewhere so I might pass when I come back in the future. This spot is a whole vibe! The food was a 100/10--seasoned to perfection, full of flavor, and made with love. Everything from the fried catfish to the smothered oxtails had me ready to clean the plate. The customer service was just as impressive. Everyone was kind, welcoming, and on point. I have to brag on the fact that this is a Black-owned business--run with pride, professionalism, and excellence. This was my first time, food was excellent. The service was great. I would definitely say it's a 10 out of 10. Definitely recommend definitely going back. The restaurant is very clean a lot of windows. You can see out great restaurant a must try. I had the gumbo I tried the oxtails the yams and the cabbage and cornbread. I will say the oxtails come with a gravy on them. I did order the gravy on the side it's a little too thick for me and the oxtails are great without the gravy, but it all depends on you . When we tried to order they were out of the regular chicken and sausage gumbo and have the seafood gumbo (which had a sign sat/sun only). It is still delicious. The candied yams 4/5 were very good with a hint of cinnamon and not overly sweet. The Mac N Cheese 4/5 had a really good flavor, but the cheese was a bit curdled. Sooooooo incredible! After church, we opted for a new dining experience, and it exceeded our expectations! Close to five stars but a few factors resulted in a single star removal. First off, the food is made to order. It takes time but listening to Earth, Wind, and Fire for 30 minutes is just fine. The rundown: * Seafood Gumbo - rich in flavor and unique. (Sat/Sun only) * Fried chicken - zero grease. Nothing like the Colonel * Macaroni salad is epic * Cornbread is perfect * Green beans - reminds me what we ate in the 70's * Brisket - good and bbq sauce was very good * Yams - pure southern * Peach cobbler - too heavy on the clove flavor and cinnamon if I am correct on the flavoring. Could use whip cream or ice cream on the side * 7up Pound Cake - very nice Issues - staffing is light. Nobody is really checking water refills, bussing empty plates, etc. Very friendly staff, just understaffed. Real reason for the single star beat down? Besides loving the plates (again total 70's play) the plastic utensils for dine in is a total bust. How is one supposed to eat brisket, Gumbo, etc. with plastic forks and spoons? Totally detracts from the experience. Just roll some real silverware in a napkin and set it on the table. Your food deserves it. read more

Today, I'm in the East Bay. I'm here at Cherie's Southern Kitchen in Dublin. I got me a Smothered Chicken Platter, with Collard Greens and Candied Yams. My favorite, Candied Yams. And I like everything Smothered. Smothered Chicken. Smothered Texas Chicken Fried Steak. Smothered Chicken Marsala. Everything is better Smothered. This Smothered Chicken, was like wow, what a Knockout. And this really taste authentic, I really like the braised Turkey in the Greens, it was a nice touch. The Candied Yams was heavenly. And anybody that actually knows me, knows how much I like Cornbread. And this Cornbread, the Crust on it was perfection. And usually, I don't comment about the sweet Iced Tea, but this Iced Tea was so good, I can tell it was brewed fresh. It was Executed, and put together so well. I was thinking this was going to be a 3.8-4.3 stars, this could be a 4.5 stars on a good day, I want to give this a 4.4 stars, but I give this 4.4/4.5 stars out of 5 stars.
