Came here last night, a decent place to eat, very friendly staff and fast service. Our server had a shadow following her, from my observation she was very good at teaching the young man. She was on her A game, our glass was constantly filled and came to check on us many times. Even, which I'm guessing was the manager, came to greet us. That was very nice of her. I gave 3 stars and here's why; my wife brought it to my attention, when our entrees came, my wife said, "Did you notice that out of everyone here, we were the only ones that didn't get bread?". I was going to ask for bread but our meal had already came, whats the point. I'm not going to say the "r" word, I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt that it was because it was busy and our server was training someone. Another issue that turned us off was the professionalism of the Manager. Even though it was thoughtful of her to greet us in the beginning, we did not agree on her approach on reprimanding one of her server or busboys infront of customers. I could not remember the conversation because I only paid attention halfway through but the arguement. I do remember her yell,"Don't walk away from me!" I do side with the manager in correcting her staff but the approach was all wrong, next time take him to the side away from customers view. FISH N CHIPS - 8/10 PROS: Delicious, not too salty. Tartar sauce was on point, liked to dip the chips in there. CONS: Didn't standout with the rest of the fish n chips I've ever had. ALL YOU CAN EAT UNPEELED SHRIMP - 8/10 PROS: All you can eat, the shrimp was very flavorful. Melted butter and cocktail was great with the meal. Cheesy grits was delicious. CONS: Little stingy on the refills, you will end up making your server keep coming back and forth. It's unpeeled so you have to work for it, which I didn't mind, I can go all day. I felt sorry for the server so I stopped asking for more after the 3rd request. Presentation needed work. CHESAPEAKE LOBSTER DINNER: 9/10 PROS: Dip that lobster tail in melted butter, oh my gawd. Very delicious. That mash was on the money. The chowder that came with meal was good and creamy. CONS: I don't know if it was worth the price per serving. We used to come here for lunch and enjoyed food on Fidays. But that is not available now. How come there is no menu to review . Very disappointing. Well the food is very ok and the menu is pretty blah. My wife and I got drinks and they were underwhelming at best. Another problem here is that most of their waitstaff is unseasoned younger people. Chesapeake Tavern is my favorite restaurant in the area. Their food is always consistently good. I love their fresh oysters and their shrimp and grits is amazing the grits are so good. Any dish I've tried has always been great. They make nice drinks also. We recently had my bridal shower here and they did such an amazing job. We had a brunch buffet and everything tasted amazing. The service was also great. I think we had Justin and Rachel as our servers. The inside is really nice too they have a lot of windows with natural lighting. I love coming here and everyone I bring loves it too so definitely give it a try! read more

Tiny portions and way over priced! Went there after hearing nothing but good things about the Chesapeake unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. Oysters were dry and flavorless and pre-shucked. Smallest portions I ever saw in a restaurant yet very expensive. They upcharge for everything!! Want a small side of cocktail sauce $1, want another ice tea - $3.50. Considering how expensive this place is they should not have to charge extra. The overall quality of the seafood was average, nothing special. However this place got to be named one of the top seafood restaurants in Morris County is beyond me, must be political. read more

This is my absolute favorite restaurant. The food is always delicious which is wonderful but the best thing about Chesapeake is the staff. They are such a nice group of people. Service is spot on and my husband and I are always given 5 star service. The tapas are varied and delicious. They use local farm fruits and vegetables throughout their menu. The restaurant has a cozy fireplace and a large bar. It is always clean and inviting. The bathrooms are the cleanest that I have ever seen. We always leave with a full belly and a smile. You can't ask for more than that. They deserve more than 5 stars. We have been going to Chesapeake for about 3 years now and I have always been pleased with every meal they have served. read more

This is shortage of good restaurants in New Jersey especially in the boonies. People think red lobster is a gourmet restaurant out here and the food is God-awful. Finally a seafood house opened up that actually has great food. The Jefferson tavern in Long Valley. I had the king crab, but the couple next to me who had the salmon said it was delicious. And there was a woman at the bar who had a humongous tray of oysters. Having grown up in New York City the prices here are pretty reasonable. The food for the most part is pretty good. The ressorto maybe a little bit too cheesie. I will be back for their bronzini There's a nice atmosphere. I went at 4 o'clock to avoid the lunch and dinner crowds. My husband and I had dinner here this past Thursday. They have half price bottles of wine after 4:30 on Thursday. While the selection is not huge we enjoyed a very nice Zinfandel. My husband and I love seafood and were excited to hear that Chesapeake was BACK! Thank you Kevin. Red lobster is not seafood! We started with spicy tuna tartare (omg) and New England Clam Chowder. Delicious. Entrees were scallops and bronsino. Each cooked and seasoned to perfection. Thank you head chef Anthony! My husband could not resist Creme brûlée. I was done. Incredible service from Kay as well as entourage of staff that both greeted us warmly and bid us kind salutations at the end of the evening. Ambiance beautiful too! We sat next to gas fireplace. Chesapeake Tavern has surely become one of my favorite if not my favorite restaurant. My fiancé and I came here for the 5th time tonight and had another amazing time. We had a 7pm reservation which ran a little late no big deal as the patio section is very popular. The general manager apologized numerous times and brought us complimentary champagne, the whole entire staff goes above and beyond every time we've been here. The outdoor patio section is my favorite especially at night with all the low profile lighting and the music playing. Tonight they had a band playing which added to an already great atmosphere. Food wise tonight we each had a dozen oysters super fresh and flavorful. Then crab cakes and the seafood pasta for dinner. Seafood pasta had angel hair with crab meat, shrimp, and scallops with a light garlic sauce. I also love the food here and the sauce because has great taste and is light but never takes away from the flavor of the seafood which is the main part of the dish. My fiancé had the crab cakes which she loved as well. Overall atmosphere, staff, and food. I would recommend Chesapeake Tavern to anyone. Overall, experience was "ok".... but not great. Had reservation, and were seated promptly. Waited about 15 minutes for waitress to take drink order. Then about another 15 for food. (Took 2 hours from seating until finished dinner for 2... without ordering desert). "Outstanding" calamari, as it was labeled on the menu, was far from it... over fried, small pieces, many tentacles, and bits of fried breading included on plate. I didn't know I can get delivery from here but I'm so glad I found out that I can. Tonight I got the Barata and prosciutto salad m, it was amazing. I also got the tavern burger which I asked for rare, which was amazing. The only thing I wish was that the bag was sealed so the delivery person couldn't put their hands in it. They were accommodating with where we wanted to sit outside (thanks covid..), had quick and professional service, and the food was delicious. On the pricier side, but worth it in my opinion for the flavor and freshness! The owner Marcella was walking around towards the end of our meal and made great conversation about her history at the restaurant and her 3 children... I was 8 mo pregnant at the time and even considered the name Marcella for our daughter after chatting with her! (Spoiler: we went with Mary.) We've been here several times because the food is decent. However, the last 3 times we've been there they have over charged us for drinks and / or food. They list items on their menu as one price but charge more when you get your bill. The first two times we brought this to their attention and they corrected the issue on our bill. However, they haven't fixed the issue in the computer system or reprinted menus despite being informed of the issue multiple times. Having the exact same issue a third time is proof they are ok with misleading and overcharging their patrons and many customers will fail to reconcile their itemized bill with the menu prices. Update: The manager did update the price in the computer and sent us a gift card as an apology. This was appreciated. It took 3 times of letting management know of their error, but it's possible that on a busy Saturday night, the followup got forgotten versus a deliberate decision to ignore the issue. read more

This is an incredible place! Every bit of it is perfect, from the incredible service to the shrimp and grits there's nothing you can complain about. On the way to the bar you can look all around and see smiling faces. My server Jen always makes sure everything goes right and always remembers my name. They make you feel special there and I think that's more than you can ask for. My personal favorite there is probably the chicken schnitzel and I recommend it to anyone who goes there. read more

Ok Wednesday night in the summer is Crab night! Oh yeah. Big bucket of crabs - pick, pick - smothered in Old Bay seasonings.... I had the soft shell and they are lightly dipped and pan fried to perfection- then I had two more. The corn is delicious from Ort farm- sweet enough on its own , no added sugar needed. Don't leave yet.... The Key Lime pie with raspberry sauce - really, really, Out of this world especially good- wow A rare find in these northern parts. Mind you, the staff and ownership of this place is top notch The bartender, Tim, seemed to be friendly, particularly after a wide spread ordering of food and drink by our group of four! He then accused one patron of using fake money, was cold and demeaning to the customers, would pick up invoices to check his tip before one would have an opportunity to finalize. Very disappointed overall. We came there with the intention to have along crab legs. We were sat and waited quite a while to be acknowledged. Then we placed orders. I ordered an arugula salad as an app. This salad was perfect. Our drinks of soda still did not come. No bread offered. The mashed potatoes was creamy with a hint of cheese but the serving size was as much as you would get at a Popeyes or KFC. The asparagus was extremely shriveled and it came with my pound of King Crab legs which resulted in 3 pieces. Considering the price, slow service and small portion I was disappointed. We also ordered the pineapple cheesecake and this too was mediocre and a tiny slice sized. Disappointed. Ate here for the first time today and had a great experience. It was a beautiful summer day so we sat out in the back patio. I had a bowl of the New England Clam Chowder and the quiche of the day. Both were excellent ..... but the true find of the day was the salad my girlfriend ordered. It was called the "Seriously 'Best Salad' Ever" and seriously it lived up to its name and was amazing. The salad consisted of baby arugula, frisée, kale with a sunny side up egg, double smoked bacon lardons, pecorino, marinated champignon mushrooms ... all tossed in a truffled Auch vinaigrette. I mean seriously - it was the best salad ever! I'd go back here just for this alone even though the rest of the menu looked great! Chesapeake Tavern was the spot my husband and I would take our family and friends to when we needed a place to eat. Last weekend we went with our family and were told they switched to "small plates." So for a party of 8 it was recommended you order 9+ small plates for everyone. So that's what we did and we were not fans of it at all. First, the small plates were still priced the same as a regular plate. So you got less food for the same amount of money as a regular plate. Also most of the dishes we chose weren't really sharable. We got the Moroccan lamb lollipops and it came with two pieces of lamb on top of potatoes. Between the 8 people we had it cut it up between us and we each got maybe got one bite. Same goes for the harvest diver scallops. It came with a few scallops which were not enough for everyone to have a bite. My husband and I were so embarrassed as the bill was hefty and all of us left hungry as we couldn't stomach ordering more small plates since they were priced fairly high. The average price of a plate was $15. I really hope they rethink this whole small plate idea. Or at least give people the option to not do it. Personally when I go out to eat I want to order something I want and not eat bits and pieces of lots of dishes. read more

This place totally exceeded my expectations. Started off with the schooley swizzle to drink. Very good. Next we have the tomato tower app - layered perfectly with a fried ball of cheese on top.
