Hamburger steak with gravy on the side and broccoli instead of Lima beans.

Food was great, service was fast and friendly, and the place is pretty nice. There is a big menu with lots of choices. I had the hamburger steak with broccoli and mashed potatoes. It was really good. I definitely recommend stopping in here for a bite.

This place was amazing! Our server Kendall, was so awesome! It was our first time and once we told him, he recommended some items and even let us try a sample of the creole cream sauce before we ordered it just to make sure we liked it, which we loved by the way! He took such amazing care of us. The food was delish and we had leftovers. We will definitely stop by again when we come through Hattiesburg!

I gave this review some thought on how I would proceed. The restaurant is very nice and well kept for service. Our server was very friendly and our party of 7 was able to have some great conversation. It was nice a quiet in the room we were seated in. We had the boudin egg rolls, crab bread and spinach artichoke dip for appetizers. All were good and we were so hungry I didn't get any pictures. The entrees were all good but we didn't really care for the crab claws very much. Not sure if it was the way they were cooked or if they were frozen. The rest of our food was great. I had the swamp po'boy. I strange combination but it works and was tasty. The seafood potato was delicious and large. The hamburger steak was excellent. We will definitely be in for another visit and another try the next time we are in Hattiesburg.

This is a great place to watch the game, eat good food not bar food.

I don't know what took us so long to go here ? It was great: the service, the food, my husband had a hard time deciding what to get and suggested we might have to come back to try something else next time. Great value for cocktails, we were not there during happy hour. I loved the deep fried pecan pie and would have a hard time not getting the ribs again!!!! They were So good, the meat feel off the bone! I had so much I took some home for lunch the next day. I always saw the outside of the building and thought it looks like an old Olive Garden...but it's not old inside. It's cute Hattiesburg decor. The bar is large and has table and booth seating for lunch or dinner. They have an outdoor patio area too.

My parents were big fans of the Gold Post so I ate here quite a few times growing up. It had been…read morequite a few decades since my last visit when I decided to stop in and try it out again. My first return visit was quite pleasant and I was very surprisingly pleased as their shrimp gumbo actually tasted like gumbo which often isn't the case once you get outside of Louisiana. I also sampled their burger with a side of onion rings which was decent but the burger was more of a thin patty fast food style burger while I prefer the NOLA style thick beef patty. I made another visit to try out their poboy so I again got the shrimp gumbo along with a shrimp poboy. This visit was not as pleasant as the first as the shrimp gumbo just seemed off while the poboy was alright but the bread seemed a bit less than fresh. In NOLA poboy bread is good for one day and goes stale so then it is used to make bread pudding. The big poboy bread bakeries in NOLA have started to ship out their bread to other places and somehow have found a way to keep it fresh longer but it still just seems you can't get that same fresh poboy bread experience anywhere outside of NOLA. The ambiance of Gold Post is till 1970's fantastic with nothing being changed from the way I remember it as a kid so that is always nostalgic. The service at Gold Post is fast food style where you order at the counter but they do clean your table. Overall this is a decent joint and one of the few poboy spots in Hattiesburg, MS.

You can even get them "dressed" Nola style with your choice of gravy. Yum Yum Yum! The shrimp po'boy is just as delicious with beautifully executed super crunchy savory battered shrimp, seasoned to perfection. The tiny bistro French fries here are Amazeballs, perfect marriage with NOLA po'Boys :)... AND, the red beans & rice are served traditional NOLA style with French bread. You can get a cup or a bowl, we got a bowl & took one home. The salads here are also worth the drive, they even have their own signature dressing. it's over 2 hours for us but when we need a NOLA fix with nostalgia, it's a Hail Mary to the "GoldPost." Will return. Highest Recommendations.

The lighting is a bit dim for our old eyes but otherwise it has the feel of a pub. We loved that. Our server was very nice and helpful. We ordered the bacon cheddar fries. The fries are like a cottage fries that are then cut into strips. Perfect fry on them. The bacon could have been crispier but great flavor and a good ranch. I had the KPauls pasta. We all enjoyed it. Pasta cooked perfectly al dente. If you love a saucy pasta this isn't for you. It is nice and creamy but not swimming in it. Big plump shrimp that tasted great. Also has chunks of chicken breast and sliced sausage. Uncle Jim got the red beans and rice. Great flavor but barely warm. The catfish is a thicker cut and battered in a coarsely ground corn meal. Aunt Robin had the shrimp and grits. Those were the star of the show. So creamy and incredible flavor. Very generous amount of nice sized shrimp. Mike had the Keg Stand burger. He requested the sauce on the side. It's definitely a unique flavor. Nice soft bun. The meat was grossly over cooked but would have been tasty had it not been so dry. The onion rings that came with the burger were soggy. Overall, enjoyed it. We know what to get next time. Shrimp and grits and KPauls pasta!!

I'm not sure where to begin with this review, because we very much wanted to enjoy this restaurant,…read morebut it was not a very good experience in any sense. We were in Hattiesburg for the night and found Murky Waters through their website, which indicated through their menu, photos, prices, and their suggestion that reservations should be made that this was elevated southern barbecue. It is not. Which is fine, if that's what you're serving and charging for. But here's what we got: "Smoked ahi tuna dip" = canned tuna salad ($12.95, served with Keebler Club crackers) Ham & cheese po' boy- it was just a ham and cheese sandwich on a long roll, and the roll was cold ($13.95) My son liked the brisket, but said the Mac & cheese was not good. My family got refills on their drinks, but my drink came in a smaller glass and I didn't get a refill. We all got soda, so I'm not sure why. The restaurant is pleasant, but we were seated directly in front of the window unit air conditioner so we had to decide which one of us would be the most uncomfortable while eating. The bill was over $100. After discussing it, we all felt that we would have felt better about the entire thing if the food had been more fairly represented and priced. If you go, don't order the tuna.

We tried the pulled chicken, boneless chicken bites, pulled pork sandwich, tuna dip, and macaroni and cheese. The mac and cheese was easily the standout side dish--creamy, flavorful, and something I'd definitely order again. The meats were solid, but nothing particularly memorable compared to other BBQ places I've visited. The service was okay, but it felt like the restaurant may have been understaffed. Several items seemed to arrive in stages rather than together. Things like silverware, lemons for water, and other small necessities had to be brought out separately, which made the service feel a bit disorganized and slower than expected. One area that could use attention is cleanliness. The women's restroom wasn't in the best condition during our visit, and there was a restroom cleaning log posted on the door that appeared to have last been filled out in March. Whether it was simply overlooked or not, it doesn't create the best impression for customers. Overall, I'd rate the experience 3 out of 5 stars. The food was decent, especially the mac and cheese, but the service and attention to detail kept it from being a place I'd go out of my way to visit again. I've had better BBQ experiences elsewhere.
