I had heard that the newest iteration of Chesterfield's had finally gotten their act together and was supposed to be good. I was pretty excited because Hattiesburg's selection of non-chain restaurants is somewhat limited. My friends and I arrived at 6:15 to have some dinner before heading to a 8:15 movie. We didn't expect 2 hours to be a tight schedule, especially on a Thursday with the restaurant less than a mile from the movie theatre. We placed our orders for an appetizer and entrée with our waitress who was sweet, but obviously new. While the drinks were prompt, the appetizer arrived around 7:00, the salad, 7:30. By 7:45 we had no food and asked our waitress if it would be possible to go ahead and get our tabs as we had a movie to catch. At 7:55 she came back with the manager who assured us that our food was almost ready and asked if we'd like to get it boxed. We thanked him for the offer, but we were going to be in a movie for 2 hours and the food would just be sitting in the car. To their credit, we were not charged for any of our food. We tipped our waitress and left disappointed. We came in optimistic about "the new Chesterfield's" and left disappointed. I hope they get it together, but until they do, I would avoid it. read more

After burning to the ground on several occasions Chesterfield's has become a local joke. After each burning, the prices go up, but the food quality goes down. We're at a point where you're paying fine dining prices for food that is at a quality level somewhere between a Boston Market and Applebee's. The two star rating, "Meh. I've experienced better.", just about sums it up. read more

Long story short: I probably will not return. I came here to meet some friends for happy hour. There was a nice band playing outside, but it was too loud to talk amongst ourselves so we went inside. Beer was 2 for 1 but only at the bar. Although that didn't matter anyway because they didn't have two of the beers our table wanted. I got the Foghorn Leghorn, it was good but it came in a small cup with a ton of ice. My friend's drink came in a larger glass but it was watered down. Our food was normal, nothing terrible. It's an okay place if your parents come to visit I guess. read more

Being new to Hattiesburg and wanting to try something different from the usual restaurants, we decided to eat here. We waited about 15-20 minutes to be seated. Not long for a Saturday night. It seemed busy but our waiter attended to us right after we got comfortable. We put in our drink order and appetizer order along with our kids meals. After we got our appetizers (spinach and artichoke dip and a cup of the seafood gumbo for my husband) we put in our order for our dinners. The spinach and artichoke dip arrived warm. Not steaming hot. But that wasn't the worst part! It took them almost an hour to bring out our dinners! My husband got the fried shrimp with ribs and I got the fried catfish and fried shrimp! The waiter gave us an excuse that they were backed up on the fried foods?! Food was okay and to make up for the long wait they gave us a free dessert. We went to chesterfield's last night and will not be making that mistake again. My husband's pork sandwich was greasy! My dinner was supposed to be their signature stuffed baked potato. It was served cold. I had taken one bite and noticed the temp but thought I would try one more bite in case I had just had too much of the cold ham and turkey toppings. The second bite was all potato and it was very cold. I sent this potato back and 20 minutes later (my husband and my son were both already finished eating) a different waitress brought out a potato on two plates because the top plate was too hot to carry. She tells me how hot the plate is and proceeds to put the plate down directly on front of the highchair my 2 year old was sitting in. I quickly reached over her and the plate and grabbed my son's hands and told the girl if the plate is hot do not place it in front of a baby. Then of course, the potato was still cold and guess what? It was the same potato I had already eaten off of and the previously cold toppings were not hot and cooked on top. Why would they place a potato I had already eaten two bites off of back over the cooking line for "re-heating"?!? I sent the whole thing back again and asked for it to be taken off the check. The manager came by and offered to go cook one herself but I was feeling suspect of their entire kitchen and sad that my family had eaten their food already after seeing a potato eaten from re cooked. I came here with a guest because Brownstone's had closed down. I'll grant that that's a tragedy in and of itself, but I don't understand the poor reviews of Chesterfield's. I've not gone often, yet typically it's been more than satisfactory each time. As one reviewer points out, correctly, their white chocolate bread pudding is fantastic. I wanted two items that, strictly speaking, weren't on their menu -- cherry coke and catfish poboy -- and they accommodated me without blinking an eye. The restaurant is clean and well-cared or every time I visit, and while the menu may be mostly uninspiring, it's normal fare. Perhaps a bit on the pricey side, though I don't go out often, so for all I know those prices for steak may be quite common now. read more

I really enjoyed everything about my dinner here. The catfish was delicious and probably the best I have ever had. Our waiter,Luke, was so polite, friendly and helpful. He really added to our evening. The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars was the decor lacks finesse and it could use some updating but otherwise it was fantastic. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back the next time I am in Hattiesburg!! read more

I was in a party of 2 and when we arrived we gave the hostess our name who proceeded to write the name down on a child's coloring sheet. After around 20 minutes two parties were called that arrived after I did. When I asked the hostess about this problem she couldn't find the sheet she wrote our names on and didn't put us on her new list. When the next table became available she sat us in a corner booth that was not very well constructed. I was with an older gentleman who did not want a booth and was not comfortable. When we asked the hostess could we move, she stated and i quote, "Well you were in such a hurry to sit down, I just put you here.' However, a waiter over heard this and moved us to another table. We ordered and appetizer and then our entrees. We received our entrees but not the appetizer. We called a manger over to complain about the hostess and not receiving our appetizer. The manager brought our appetizer when we were finished with our meal and said they are on the house! But no, I'm sorry or I will speak to the hostess, nothing!! Just a free appetizer that we got when our meal was over. My first and last trip to this establishment. read more

Well, we have tried the 'new' Chesterfield's three times now and it just gets worse. The sandwiches look and taste like they came out of the cooler at a 7-11; the steaks are tasteless and fatty; the to-die-for Fried Mushrooms are dead; and worst of all, the pasta's creole sauce is always curdled and flavorless-no more creamy goodness you want to sop up with bread. We are old school Chersterfiel'd alumns. We have patronized them since the beginning and it is nowhere near the same! Aside from the food being awful, there is no parking and the restuarant is cheated out of adequate space by a large bar that is rarely in use. The booths are so closely packed that you are squeezed into your seat, very uncomfortable. And the wait staff has obviously not undergone the top notch training of the former Chesterfield's, (I even saw one rookie squeeze 6 ladies into a boothe for 4!). They should get Chester Smith to come in and fix that problem. Actually, Chester could get most of their problems solved. I hope they do something! But for now, we are done wasting our $! read more

my lady friend and i went to chesterfield's 01-06-2011 for her birthday dinner. we were told it would be a half hour wait,so we seated our selfs next to the hostess station ( maybe 6 feet ) well after 45 minutes i got up to check our statious because a number of people had been seated that had arrivied behind us,i was told they had called us twice ( we were setting next to them ) we were told they would seat us right away but another 15 minutes passed and several people were seated,we asked for the manager we told him our situation. he got us seated after a 1 hour wait. people we knew that arrivied behind us were eating by the time we got seated. the food was not worth the wait,my oysters would have been better if would have came from the gas station deli,they were fryed so hard. my lady friend's steark was good,but not as good as longhorn's we had eaten earlier in the week. needless to say they are not on my return list. sid read more
