Great job on the house salad, but don't ever in life order the gumbo(if that's what they call it), it's just brown gravy with sausage and two shrimp. If zero stars was an option that's the rate I would give Chesterfields. I placed a to go order and was very disappointed with the food I received. I order the Back Bay Pasta something I usually get and have ALWAYS been satisfied with it for the last 8 years of ordering it. However, this time I was very disappointed with my order. So much so that I felt I needed to call to complain. I don't usually call places complaining but my food barely had any sauce, the fish was broken it just looked disgusting. I also ordered a sweet tea with no ice and guess what it had ice in it. I ordered it with no ice because I didn't want my drink to be watered down by the time I made it to my destination which was 30mins out. I called back to let them know about my order and that I live 30mins out so driving back wasn't an option and the manager, Byram COULD CARE LESS. Not one time did he apologize. The option he gave me were to come back and he would replace it or not eat the food and bring it the next day. Those options didn't work for me because I was in a empty house with no food other than what I ordered and I couldn't leave because I had to be there for the movers. So the entire thing was an inconvenience. Regardless, my circumstances shouldn't matter had the food that a paid for been made right the first time. I guess at this point I wanted some sort of empathy and good ole customer service. "How can I make this better for you." Instead I got well that's all I can do and a I don't care attitude. I spoke with Bryan on Monday and "Supposedly" Nolle or Noel (unsure about the spelling of both mangers name) on Tuesday. They both sounded just alike and had the same nonchalant attitude. Not one time did either one apologize about the inconvenience on how the food was inadequately prepared. However they both did chose to blame me for the late pick up, which I later had to tell him that even 30 mins after I picked up my order it still wasn't ready. I even said he could roll the cameras to see I was brought my drink first to the car and ask the waiter, James where my food was and he said it wasn't ready. So that was a total of 35 mins to get food prepared. Which was supposed to be ready and 25mins I even gave them extra time and it still wasn't ready. The food was thrown together on top of being cold. But both managers made sure to blame me for not checking my food before I left. What I wanted to tell them yes I should have checked but because I have always been impressed with chesterfield I never felt I needed to double check them like I would at McDonald's. This is an upscale local business, but I guess my expectations were too high for their food and customer service because yesterday I would given a -10. They have horrible people managing that restaurant. It's actually heartbreaking because Chesterfield was one of my favorite restaurants. It's my go to place and because it's a local restaurant I try to eat there often to support. ESPECIALLY, during these times. However how both manager made me feel I regret supporting this restaurant over 8 years. I've had birthday dinners there, family dinners and always brought out of town guest to Chesterfields. Byram and Noel made it clear they don't care about their customer or customer service. Both Noel and Bryam made me feel I wasn't a customer they valued. I hope this reaches the owners whom both told me they wouldn't care because this is their policy. I can understand policy but I wasn't asking for a refund I was asking for an apology. Regardless, if the order was right the first time none of this would have mattered. I understand mistakes happen but I don't understand is rude managers placing the blame on the customer instead of taking responsibility of their actions. I went here when I was in the Hattiesburg area. I had the steak dinner and my steak was cooked just right along with a baked potato. My girlfriend had the hamburger with the fried egg on it and she told me it was one of her favorites. This is a great place to go for casual American cuisine. read more

OMG excellent. Stopped for a quick bite kinda late. Super server Cole. We had the pork chops they were so beautifully spiced an explosion of flavor and fork tender. It came with a choice of sides I chose mashed potatoes and okra and a fruit cup. The only thing I regretted was the mashed potatoes. Everything else spot on delicious. The manager was very rude and condescending when we complained about one of the dishes being too salty. She felt like we were supposed to give the waitress a run down of my medical history before ordering the food so the cook would know not to dump the entire salt shaker in my food. Then she felt the need to educate me on what blackened meant. All I asked for was that they remake the dish or exchange it and she became so mean and disrespectful that we told her nevermind. Locally owned and operated, the menu should have something for everyone. If I have a criticism, it is the beer selection is b o r i n g! C'mon! Get some craft brews on tap. Otherwise, my wife selected the fried pork chops with mashed potatoes and gravy, and lima beans. Along side came a freshly baked yeast roll. She indicated the chops (2) were perfectly cooked and tender, the potatoes and gravy were tasty, and the limas flavorful. ($10) I opted for the fried shrimp and catfish ($16) with fried okra and jalapeño slaw. OMG! The platter included 7 butterflied shrimp, 4 catfish filets, 8 hush puppies, a nice serving of homemade okra, and tasty slaw. The hiccup was the slaw was not served with the meal. Our server, Sam, was attentive, polite, and clean cut, a student at the local university. I can't say enough about the menu offerings, including steak, seafood, burgers, salads, and more. Chesterfield's is a casual dining restaurant and bar located across Highway 49 from the University of Southern Mississippi. Chesterfield's is undoubtedly one of Hattiesburg's most forgettable non-chain restaurants. The expansive menu offers a wide variety of pastas, salads, steaks, sandwiches and entrees, and yet manages to make almost all of them sound uninteresting. This lack of focus in conceptualization sometimes carries over to the food served as well. For example, In a previous visit to Chesterfield's I was served a crumbling sandwich bun which had obviously been warmed over on the grill in attempts to cover its obvious staleness. On another visit, the french fries I ordered as a side item had obviously been previously frozen as they tasted almost freezer-burned. Relatively minor problems such as the above are compounded by a waitstaff which seems unable to accommodate special requests the first time they're asked and bartenders who mix notoriously weak drinks during Chesterfield's perplexingly popular happy hour. None of the above admittedly petty concerns sink Chesterfield's as much as the restaurant's overall lack of inspiration. Having dined several times at Chesterfield's I can certainly tell you that there's nothing memorable about the batter on their fried seafood save that it was a bit too salty. Similarly, their almost cliche' selection of salads brings nothing new to the table. It's almost as if someone took a chain-restaurant menu included a few overdone regional dishes and then threw a few bible verses in for good measure. In fact, the most memorable thing about the menu, actually, might be the conspicuously princely sum they charge for steak compared to their competitors. So, is Chesterfield's a bad restaurant? Not really. I've had a number of competently executed meals here, foremost among them one of the aforementioned high-priced steaks. But I may be somewhat unusual in expecting dining out to be a memorable, even special experience, and Chesterfield's simply does not deliver in this department. read more

Patio, once upon a time was pristine, now litter on the floor, tables not bussed for 45 mins, busy but I have seen it much busier. I had a business lunch here last Friday. I ordered the Seafood Stuffed Potato and actually it was very good, just a bit on the heavy side for lunch. The shrimp & crab sauce would have been fantastic over pasta. (Our waiter suggested it and I took him up on it!) One of our party ordered the special; a hamburger steak with rice and he enjoyed it. Someone else had a beautiful salad with chicken and she loved it. The service was great, no complaints at all. The atmosphere is very nice and ideal for a business lunch. I called in a to go order and prepaid with a debit card. The total was more than I expected and when I questioned the amount I was told they add an automatic gratuity to take out orders. I called comparable restaurants and found out they do not do this. I spoke with the manager and told him that I tip according to service and that I would not tip for a to go order. The potato was gummy, cold and after asking to speak to the manager, she was not responsive to our comments. A blank stare doesn't cut it! One of my favorite restaurants in Hattiesburg. Me and my family love to visit on Sundays after church. The atmosphere is very classy with dim lighting in certain sections of the restaurant. They have three sections including a bar and sport area with many tvs, the large seating area with plenty of booths, and the extra seating area with large tables for bigger parties. The restaurant also has a beautiful patio area with a fire pit and tvs. My favorite dish to get is the chicken finger platter with fruit and sweet potato fries. Their chicken quesadilla, burgers, catfish platter, pork chop dinner, and chicken and waffles during brunch on Sundays are also delicious. The service is wonderful and the food is always cooked to your preference. Overall, this is a great place for families or date night! read more
