Poor communication, misleading Happy Hour promotion, and unresolved refund! Parking: Free with plenty of spaces. Restroom: Three stalls for each gender and reasonably clean. We visited on Tuesday (6/30) around 5:30 PM with a group of 10. The restaurant is spacious and can easily accommodate larger parties. Happy Hour flyers (Mon-Fri, 3:00-7:00 PM) were placed directly on our dining table when we were seated. Naturally, we assumed the Happy Hour menu applied to our table. Several of us ordered the Signature Margarita from that flyer. I even pointed directly at the Happy Hour menu when placing my order. The server asked whether I wanted it "blended" or "on the rocks", and I chose "blended" based on my friends' recommendation. At least five people in our group ordered the same margarita the same way. Some of my friends also ordered food from the Happy Hour menu. The taco station was decent, but the setup felt awkward. Customers have to lean over the uncovered toppings while ordering, which didn't seem very hygienic. It also becomes congested because people picking up food cross paths with those still ordering. The biggest surprise came when we received the bill. The margaritas and several Happy Hour food items were charged at regular price. When I spoke with the manager, the explanation kept changing. She first said Happy Hour pricing only applied in the bar area, despite the Happy Hour flyers being placed on our dining table. She later said the restaurant sometimes honors Happy Hour pricing at dining tables when the bar is full, making the policy even more confusing. She also said the margarita special only applied to the "on the rocks" version, even though that restriction wasn't stated on the flyer. At no point did the server tell us that the Happy Hour pricing didn't apply to our table or that ordering the blended version would cost more. Had we been informed before ordering, we could have made an informed decision. The manager told me she refunded the price difference for my margarita, while saying each of my friends would need to request their own refunds individually instead of correcting the entire table's bill. Update (7/14): The manager told me on 7/1 that my refund had already been processed. As of 7/14, no refund has appeared on my credit card. I called the restaurant multiple times to ask about it, and each time I was told that the general manager would return my call, but no one ever followed up. Since I couldn't get the issue resolved through the restaurant, I had to file a dispute with my credit card company. The issue wasn't simply that there were Happy Hour restrictions. It was that the restaurant handed us the Happy Hour menu at our table, accepted our orders without explaining any restrictions, then charged regular prices afterward. The inconsistent explanations and failure to follow through on the promised refund made the experience even more disappointing. My advice: If you order from the Happy Hour menu, confirm that the promotion applies to your table and verify your receipt before paying. read more

Came in during late lunch. Not many people since it was after lunch time. Waited a few minutes to sit down. Once we were seated the waiter brought us chips and salsa and asked what we would like to drink. Ordered water with lemons and a coke and two kids drinks. Milk and lemonade. He brought our drinks out and we ordered food. Mixed grill fajitas, burria tacos, pizza, and chicken stripe. Food came out pretty fast and hot. The mixed grill was amazing! Had four types of meats, shrimp, steak, chicken, and pork with onions and peppers plus all the sides. Pico de gallo, sour cream, and corn. Not to forget freshly made tortillas. The birria tacos came with three and rice and beans. The kids pizza was okay and so was the chicken. Came with applesauce and dessert. It was plenty of food for the price. $88 for everything. There is plenty of seating for big groups and small. Love the Mexican music and decor. I recommend coming when its not too busy because the waiter was very attentive. read more

Came for some chips and drinks with friends and family after a birthday dinner last night somewhere else. Restaurant is very big and has plenty of tables and booths. He took our order and brought us our drinks and then disappeared for so long after lol. We had to track him down to close out our table and go sit at the bar instead. Also one of our drinks was said to be a double order and double charge because we wanted a bigger cup .. came out to taste like a large cup of juice. We came here on Monday (Memorial Day) for their happy hour! Me and my husband were seated at a table but told the waitress we wanted the HH deals and she was so kind to help us get a spot at the Bar! Our server at the bar was named Gabby! She was so friendly, quick and just overall so great! Loved their $2.99 all day Monday margaritas!! Great size and you can get different flavors for a few extra bucks. Their happy hour is 3-7pm and their options are great! We got the Ghost Pepper BBQ wings (spicyyyyy but Soo good and not dry at all!), street tacos, and their chicken nachos! Everything was 10/10. Decided to visit Chevys for a night out. Haven't been here in over a year but it's in a nice location with plenty of parking. It was a busy night but we got seated and ordered fairly quickly. This spot is clean with a bar and TVs at the front. Ordered buffalo wings for appetizer to start. I ordered the flamed mixed grill fajitas with steak, chicken, carnitas, and shrimp. My friend she ordered the three amigos combo with chipotle chicken enchilada, shrimp a la diabla served on rice, and a beef taco. Chips and salsa included. I made a to-go order here the other day because I had my dog with me and wanted to have lunch in the park with her. I could not decide between the three chicken taco combo meal ($22) or the chicken flautas appetizer ($15) so I got them both and then I saw the asada fries ($14.50) and added those as well. I can be indecisive at times. It took about 20 minutes for the food to come out. The restaurant was mostly empty but they did have some sort of set up for an all you can eat brunch and I will definitely be looking into trying that. The rice and beans in my combo were delicious. The beans were flavored really well and that is so important to me. I did not really like the tacos but I think they would be fine for most people. The meat was way to moist and soft and the liquid made the slightly crispy shells soggy. The lack of cheese on the tacos also made them bland but my dog enjoyed the chicken from the tacos and honestly ate a lot of it. The tiny scoop of sweet corn tomolito on the side of the combo was a nice little treat and I really enjoyed that. I did not like the wrapping on the flautas. It reminded me of an eggroll wrapper but the meat and cheese inside was good and the pineapple, although a strange choice in my opinion, did add a pop of freshness. The asada fries were 5 stars all the way. The fries were cooked and seasoned well and the toppings were great. I definitely recommend those. Overall, I would give my experience a 3.5/5 but I always round up and the fries were so good they deserve some extra points. I will probably be back one of these Sundays to try out the brunch and update my review. read more

From the moment we walked in service was on point. The place was clean, with the bar area having happy hour every day and big screens playing the games, giving a Tex-mex sports bar and grill vibe. I was with a party of 5, 4 adults and 1 kid. As usual the kid ordered chicken tenders, which he said were the best as he didn't even need ketchup or ranch for them. One ordered a giant combo with 5 different items, which she said was pretty good, except for the chile relleno which was not how she usually likes it. The rest of us ordered fajitas. The tortillas are still the thick handmade flour tortillas which are great by themselves or with butter. The fajitas don't come with guacamole, so we ordered a discounted happy hour guacamole and fajita nachos to start. I also ordered a strawberry margarita which was nice and strong, better than I remember. Where they can improve is they should check their restrooms more often. The men's room was in need of paper towels. The tamalito they put in the place was the smallest teaspoon sized bit, they could at least add a scoop. Overall we all enjoyed our food and will definitely come back. That's this critic's review, until next time, I'll be eating. read more

Adjective: Attentive We've not been to this Chevy's before even though we used to live in Elk Grove. It's never been a regular restaurant for us, but lately we joined their rewards program and started eating at Chevy's, first at the one on the River and today at the one in Laguna. This one is pretty happening. We were greeted and seated quickly. Jr. was our server and he was attentive. He gave us 2 heaping baskets of their famous tortilla chips and salsa. My kids devoured them right away, but my hubby really went all out. I came back to the table from washing my hands before eating and one basket was almost empty, lol. Jr. graciously gave us a refill. We ordered 2 happy hour items which I find very good value, my big kid ordered the Spicy BBQ chicken quesadilla, and my younger one had the beef birria which is my personal favorite. Hubby had the birthday entree reward from his birthday not long ago and we split the Fajita plate that's the big one for $30 (kind of pricey for what it is). All the food came quickly and were sizzling hot and yummy. Again the 2 HH were the best. Atmosphere was ok, staff was very busy so maybe that's why it was a little tense. Their tortillas are always good. A decent serving of chicken but it was pretty dry. My granddaughter liked the pizza, and Shirley temple, but they forgot to give her the sundae that comes with the meal. We love their fresh and light chips and salsa. Sunday All You Can Eat Champagne Brunch: Usually I am not a big fan of Chevys but we came in for their Sunday AYCE brunch and I was very impressed by the selection and flavors of all the dishes I tried. We came in at 10:30am before the crowds arrived. Our server was amazing. She made sure to come by often to top off our champagne, bring fresh pancakes that were so so good! The atmosphere was very welcoming and friendly. The food was hot, fresh and delicious. The egg bar was delicious. You could get them done however you like. The omelette was really good. It's been quite a while since I have been to a Chevy's restaurant and I'm not sure why because every time I've gone, I am always happy with my meal! First off, one cannot go wrong with their chips and salsa. They have the perfect thin crispy tortilla chips that hold just the right amount of salt and crunch. Their salsa has always been good, but on this occasion, it tasted very fresh and had a touch of roasted chilies that just made it chefs kiss. It's super easy to over stuff yourself on the chips because once you start, it's almost impossible to stop! I was craving a good margarita so I thought I would try the black diamond margarita. This one was very different for sure. Along with a silver tequila, it also includes Hennessy cognac and flavorful citrus juices. I love that they come to your table, where they shake it and pour it into a black salt rimmed martini glass. It felt so classy lol. They also leave what remains in the shaker at your table and I was able to get about 2 1/2 martini glass servings of this margarita so it is well worth the $16 price. I ordered the mixed grill fajitas and it did not disappoint. The mixed grill came with grilled skirt steak, Carnitas, grilled chicken and shrimp with butter to dip the shrimp in. The grilled onions and bell peppers were a nice touch. It also came with a side of refried beans, rice, as well as the typical condiments for your fajitas, such as sour cream, pico de gallo, and lettuce. I have to say my favorite part is their homemade flour tortillas, I could eat those with butter and just be happy with that lol! Yummy delicious meal and I walked away so stuffed. Service was also great, our waiter was very attentive and friendly. I think I'm going to have to make more frequent trips to Chevys!! read more

Saturday, September 5th. We had all been customers of Chevys for decades . That officially ended after our experience last night. The one star is solely for our wonderful server Wes, who was literally working as hard as he could. First it took nearly 30 minutes to be seated in what appeared to be a nearly empty restaurant. Next, we placed our drink orders only to be told that two bartenders had just quit. Our drink order was eventually brought out incorrectly. Wes went to tell the manager who was also now the acting bartender and she proceeded to get angry with him. One of the members of our party went to speak to the manager in Wes' defense . The next drink order was so bad none of us could drink them. Our food came more than an hour after we placed our order. The meat in the fajitas was like rubber and some of the vegetables were overcooked and some were undercooked. The enchiladas looked like they''d been sitting there for days. The sauce was practically coagulated, the shrimp was cold, and the rice was crunchy. One of us went to the women's restroom where she found vomit on the floor and no toilet paper. At that point we were so fed up, but we didn't have the heart to complain to Wes. We knew he could sense our frustration and he apologized repeatedly. However, at no point did management or other staff come to check on us. Then we get the bill and there's an extra "local business" surcharge. Aren't all business in Elk Grove local? One of the members of our party told the manager about our awful experience. She apologized, but did not offer any compensation (she had her backpack on and had one foot out the door).
