It was such a busy place at BJ's Friday afternoon. Seems half of Elk Grove was celebrating graduations at BJ's from the 4+ people reservations that had one person in the party with graduation leis on. That was also my granddaughter's choice, and we placed our name on the list for a party of 8, just before noon. We beat most of the other graduation parties coming in, with a 30 minute wait for us. After an hour wait, we were finially being seated. The hostess escorted us to our table with my granddaughter in front, to one of the smaller booths that seat 4-6 people max. She dropped the menus on the table and walked away, without looking at any one of us, not giving us the ability to say anything because the rest of us didn't even reach the table yet. My son immediately followed her all the way back to the front counter, and spoke to the desk that 8 of us can not fit in a booth that comfortably fits 4 people. We pointed out two other larger booths we passed along the way, but one was seated after our request by a reservation of 6, made after our reservation. The other table, we were told, that the server in that area had too many tables to serve at the time and had to wait. There was a large table that wasn't available yet, that they said we could have after it clears, and they apologized for trying to place us in the wrong size table. The manager did come over and asked the server to offer a table outside, but that table did not work out for us, so we waited for an available table inside, which was only another 15 minutes. We were starving by then, but happy , knowing that BJ's is a very busy place for families getting together. Most of us ordered something different, but 2 of us ordered from the lunch special menu, which came with a small pizookie (their cookie and ice cream dessert). My son chose the hamburger and I chose the southern fried chicken breast off the special menu. He loved the very juicy hamburger with fries, but my chicken breast was pretty dry, as was the gravy, where I could tell it must've been prepared and sat awhile under a heat lamp before it was served. I didn't mind at first, but it was very salty and the chicken shredded instead of cutting through easily when I cut with the knife. Our server, Jayden, who was excellent btw, offered to change it , so I had the burger instead, and it was very good. Jayden would make sure we had everything we needed, and was very efficient, especially with how busy he was with his other tables. I would love to have his service in the future, and hope that the managers recognize his work. My daughter ordered the prime rib special, which was ok this time. Her prime rib was a very small serving, compared to their standard cuts, but that's probably because she likes hers well done. My granddaughter shared her large pepperoni pizza with the table, and they make great pizza. The restaurant is large, and the wait became 90 minutes for the guests that followed so I can see how difficult it was to keep the restrooms and dining area floors cleaned, but at least, the tables were cleaned well between guests, and staff were on it, and the managers were doing a great job with their crew, despite the setback with originally placing us at a table too small. The host admitted the error, which i highly respected, and making the extra wait for us a non-issue. I was still able to take my medication with lunch before 2:00. read more

Had lunch here and as always this place is forever packed! Even though it's busy the wait isn't too bad.. we waited about 20 minutes for our seats. The restaurant is huge and has many tables on the bar side and the regular side. I ordered the combo appetizer that came with wings, mozzarella sticks, artichoke dip with chips and 2 mini sliders. Also ordered a wedge salad. My son had the ribeye dish and my hubby had the chicken Alfredo pasta. The combo was good. The chicken wings were delicious. The dip was excellent with the chips. Mozzarella sticks didn't really have a cheese pull lol . The mini sliders were great. My salad was drenched in the dressing .. I couldn't finish it.. it was too much dressing. Would probably not order that again. Hubby said his pasta was ok. My son ordered his ribeye steak medium rare .. it came out medium done. I love BJs food but I was honestly disappointed about the service. Came with a party of 4 late at night around 9pm but good thing about this place that it opens late. We got seated right away. We ordered the Handcrafted Orange Cream soda and the Root Beer. It was so good! My drink tasted like the actual orange cream. We ordered Ahi Tuna Poke with chips for appetizers which was delicious. The tuna tasted so fresh with the guacamole. Then I specifically ordered the Rib Eye steak but the waitress confused my friend's prime rib order with mine so she ordered two prime ribs. When the food came out she apologized for getting my order wrong but I let it go and just decided to keep the prime rib instead. All the food was really good. But when it came to the check it was a different story. We told the waitress we wanted to split the checks into two separate checks with our items that we ordered for both couples. But instead she splits all the items in half. We look at the receipt so confused then we clarify that we wanted receipts with our prospective items and then she asks who will pay for the one appetizer. For that one we decided to split it. Later she comes back with the receipts and it shows the word "split" and the items written twice. She doesn't even explain to us how it printed out before giving to us. Then we when we were talking about it she explains it later. In the end it was very confusing and she still charged me for the prime rib price. Let's cut to the chase and talk about the great values of BJ's meal deals. We loved it so much that we ordered that twice now in one week! BJ has 9 family meal deals. We loved the slow-roasted Tri-Tip & Chicken. It came with a big container of salads, tri-tip, chicken, roasted vegetables, and 4 gigantic baked potatoes. We also added an order of sweet potatoes. One time we added salmons and the other time burger sliders to our meal deals. The meal deals serve 4-6 people. We are a family of three. With our added items, we can make each meal deals lasted at least 3 meals by repurposing the leftover meats with home cooked carbs. We have made chicken Alfredo, steak taco, steak and eggs with potatoes, chicken salads, etc. The foods are so tasty that we can't put our forks down. The prices are unbelievably great. read more

I had the Parmesan crusted chicken ordered for take out. I feel like There is always something lost in take out for BJs. TBH most of their food is usually better eaten at the restaurant. This was no exception. The sauce comes on the side to pour over the chicken and the sun dried tomatoes aren't my personal favorite but they're extra chewy in the take out. My broccoli was a bit under cooked but not totally raw. The chicken was good! I really like this dish in the restaurant but probably wouldn't order it for take out again. Usually when in town for business this location is within a short walking distance from my hotel. Since all of the BJ's consistent with their food I keep picking this restaurant whenever I'm in town. It was fine. Pizza was surprisingly better than I thought it was going to be. Definitely gives chain restaurant vibe. Service was fast and food came out super fast. You can pay on the table which is kind of cool. The pizookie wow, I mean it's never not good. I got the strawberry shortcake one and the flavors were amazing. Sometimes I'll be craving a burger and BJ's is the first place that comes to mind! I always visit with friends or family and it's a great spot to hang out and eat some delicious food! I always go on weekends and it can be really busy, so it's best if you put yourself on the waitlist to get ahead of the game. When walking in, you're greeted by friendly staff in the waiting area and they check in to see if you're on the waitlist already. If you're not on it yet, they give you a rough estimate of how long it'll take for you to get a table. The estimated time varies a lot and it could be between 30 minutes to an hour. The restaurant itself is quite large. There are many different sized booths and tables to accommodate for larger parties. After being seated and having 5-10 minutes with the menu, the waiters come by and ask if you're ready to order. My favorite item to order is the Crispy Jalapeño burger with fries, and I ask for extra pickles on the side! I also enjoy the chips and dip, which comes with salsa and guacamole. The waiter will always ask how well you would like your burger to be cooked, and I prefer medium because I don't like it too pink in the middle. In my opinion, I think BJ's has the best fries! They have the perfect crispiness and saltiness, and pair perfectly with ketchup and ranch. As for the chips and dips, the salsa has a nice roasted tomato flavor and the guacamole is very fresh, but can use some salt. One thing to mention, the wait times can be very long, I typically wait at least 30 for my food to come out. It is understandable though, as the restaurant is at its fullest capacity on the weekends. To end the meal, I will always order a pizookie! Recently I tried the Dubai chocolate pizookie and it was amazing! I was actually looking to order the monkey bread pizookie but they were out of it unfortunately. The Dubai chocolate pizookie had loads of chocolate and had pockets of pistachio flavor which worked together well. I would recommend anyone to order this pizookie if you haven't already, it's very unique compared to what they usually offer. BJ's is my go-to for American food. I have always known that they are a popular restaurant with many entree options and that their pizookies are a crowd favorite. I only started going recently as of last year and have visited a few times. I try to expand my horizons and eat new things. I like how they have the pizookie meal deal because it includes multiple items. I have had some chicken dishes, the dumpling appetizer, a few of their cheeseburgers, and almost tried all of their pizookies. I found out that they released a new limited flavor of Dubai chocolate so I have to go back soon! Every time I go there is a long wait time and it's very busy during dinner time. I recommend making a reservation with them beforehand, but you would still have to check in with the front desk and then wait some more. Servers are friendly, but sometimes we feel as if they forget about us and leave us waiting for a while. It's understandable though because the restaurant is hectic and loud. There are a few times when I get dirty utensils wrapped in the black cloth that should be clean, so make sure to check yours and wipe them good if possible. We went there 3 times. Each time the wait was EXTREMELY LONG for accessible seating. First incident my son who has cerebral palsy complained HIS BACK WAS HURTING BECAUSE THE WAIT WAS SO LONG, we ended up skipping desert that came with the meal and got 4 complimentary poozkies. I paid for our meal, just to see that the bill they charged me for was $12 more than our original bill. I had to flag down another server (which took another 5 minutes) to inquire what could have caused this upcharge. They charged me for the wrong table. The service here is trash and lacking. BJ's has a huge menu with a little bit of everything. We decided to try the deep dish pizza (1/2 chicken bacon ranch 1/2 sweet hog). The only negative was that the pizza took a long time to get to our table but our server kept checking on us and apologized for the delay. I've been to many BJ's locations over the years, but this one truly stood out for its great energy, excellent food, and exceptional service. Our server, John John R., was absolutely phenomenal. He was knowledgeable, personable, and brought such positive energy to our table that he made our celebrations even more memorable. His service was so exceptional that I made a point to speak with his manager, Sammy, before leaving to recognize both John John and the positive atmosphere of the restaurant. Nothing has changed since BJ's first opened and likely no incentive to improve since they are constantly busy, but they may have more repeat business and wait staff may see bigger tips if changes were made since people may not realize the poor decisions with timing and workflow are management decisions. Our experience today was a typical BJ's experience: Had a reservation for 11:30 am and still waited 35 minutes for a table. Order was taken right away, but waited 1 hour and 10 minutes for 3 of the adult entries (personal pizzas) to come out (and the 2 child plates, one of which was wrong) and then an additional 30 minutes for the other 3 adult entrees ("smash burgers"). Once the burgers were finally served (after everyone else had eaten), they were in no way "smash" burgers. Instead of large thin juicy patties, they were normal thickness, smaller sized patties (think child's burger) and dry, hard, and overcooked. Disappointing since usually at least the food is good. I had to take mine to go and miss the included pizookie as we had already been there 2 hours and I had an appointment. The rest of the party stayed almost another hour to get/finish their desserts. Tip: order your pizookie as soon as you get your entree because the average wait time once ordered is 35 minutes. Be aware and recognize there are times that BJ's may not be the best choice, especially if you are short on time or have kids in your party. read more

A BUSY Friday night Food: 3.0 Drinks: 2.5 Service: 2.7 A last minute change, wife wanted to go to BJ's. So on a Friday night we knew it was going to be an hour wait, but luckily we snagged two seats at the bar after 20 minutes. Greeted by Mia, then she disappeared a got what you could feel a newbie behind the bar which I don't mind if she was trained correctly. She was friendly and took our drink order: Guinness & Mojito right off the top. After receiving our drinks we place our food order: Chicken Parm and Ribeye Steak medium rare. The salad that came with my steak showed up very quickly, but then 20-25 minutes go by before the rest of our food shows up. I realize they're busy but pacing the food is important IMO. When the food arrives everything looks good but it's nothing specials my steak was cooked correctly but under seasoned and potatoes were bland. The saving grace was the Chicken Parm disappeared, so my wife was hungry or it was really good. They have a large menu, takes time to choose. We ordered the chicken Strawberry Salad, Fish and Chips and Taco plate. I enjoyed my salad, plenty of chicken, strawberries and other toppings. Sister had the Fish and Chips, plate was full of fish, she enjoyed the crispy flavor as well as the Big Bottom Blonde Beer. The three of us shared one dessert, the cookie and scoop of ice cream. Which topped off our evening together. The atmosphere is lively, although it wasn't too loud that we couldn't hear each other. read more
