Last month when we were at Buca di Beppos , we were wondering what was wrong with the meal, then again at Olive Garden. What happened was Chi Chi's ruined Italian food, at least pasta and here is why: Chi Chi's uses fresh pasta and sauces, and because it is fresh, it is unique and significantly better than everywhere else leaving us disappointed when we go out to Italian because we live in Utah. Several words to describe this place: OVERRATED-The food is good, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't the best. CROWDED- The three times I have been to this establishment, it was SUPER busy. That is not always a good thing for a restaurant for the following reasons (all these happened to me): 1. They can forget to give you parts of your order, on account of them being so busy. 2. You can call your order in ahead of time, wait the 35 minutes they give to pick up your order and then wait an additional 15 minutes before you get it, on account of them being super busy. 3. You can get stuck in their parking lot because their stupid curbside pick-up is forces the customer waiting to pick up their food to block the other cars in. OVERPRICED. One small 4-topping pizza, an antipasto salad, 8 chicken tenders and a container of their homemade potato chips cost $50. I will be avoiding this place from this point on. read more

We have been loyal Chi-Chi's patrons for decades. Every celebration, graduation, birthday... ChiChi's has been our place. So imagine our disappointment this past year to watch as not only have they steadily raised their prices but have compromised the quality of the food. We understand prices go up for supplies and wages... but this past year ChiChi's has started to price gouge for their fried chicken (once at $30 for a bucket now over $42) and their pizzas. We have had to lessen our frequenting of their establishment because it's no longer affordable for a family of five. Along with out pricing themselves, the quality of the food has been declining- their once moist and tender fried chicken and potatoes have become overcooked, dried out and stale tasting. The size of the pieces have shrunk to what would be considered comical. One could surmise they are substituting their chicken wing pieces into the buckets to save money. The pizzas crusts have been thinner and soggy. Our last few celebratory dinners have been lackluster and left much to be desired. Solid 4 stars: The food is fresh and good quality. They also make all their own pasta which is really good. I like getting their shells pasta and marinara sauce. Another great thing is that are open late ( for Simi standards) The only downfall about this place is that its pricey when it comes to the pizza and some of the other things on the menu. I add mushrooms to my pasta once and it cost me an extra 4.50.... ouch. If you wanna splurge a little get the Cioppino. Its a seafood like stew in a tomato broth. 2 reasons why Chi Chi's Pizza is getting 2 stars: 1. CUSTOMER SERVICE in ANY restaurant is EVERYTHING. I have dined-in before and tonight was my 1st time using their "convenient" curbside Pickup experience. I thought using their curbside pickup would be a seamless experience, but it was not. I pulled into their designated "CURBSIDE PICKUP" spot and a female employee working there told me it's only curbside and I informed her that I did place an order for pick up & she rudely told me, "You can go inside and pick up your food". When I left the restaurant with my food, the same female employee was hustling to other vehicles that were parked on the curbside parking spots with customer food orders. I waited a few minutes in my car and noticed that I was the only guest that was told to go inside to pick up my food, as I watched the guests parked next to me, seamlessly exchanging their cards/cash and having their food delivered to their car by the SAME rude female employee and I was not given the same courtesy. I asked to speak to the "manager" named JERRY and I don't think he understands customer service let alone empathize with the situation. This so called manager Jerry said he would need to speak to the female employee first to see "what really happened". ARE YOU SERIOUS?? Now you're accusing a customer of lying and then tried to give a back-hand apology saying he'll correct the error?! I told him, that doesn't solve ANYTHING as a customer and it's a shame he chose those words & now I WILL choose to take my business elsewhere after tonight's horrible, singled-out experience!! 2. The only reason why it gets 2 stars and not 1, is because the food is actually tasty...that's what saved this restaurant tonight, (spaghetti & meatballs with cheese ravioli was delicious). HOWEVER, the food portions are extremely SMALL when you choose curbside pickup, so beware! & also, ZACK was the ONLY employee that was empathetic to my situation, was calm and extremely nice as I explained my concern to him, despite being busy on. I'm in love with this place! First & foremost, they make the food from scratch which is such a plus. I had the antipasto (thy cheese & ranch dressing is everything). Then I ordered the Clam linguine (white sauce) which I HIGHLY recommend, I took half of it to go just because I wanted to enjoy even more of it the next day haha. We have been to Chi Chi's so many times and have had great meals - wonderful, fresh made pastas and their pizza is awesome. Last night, 12/21, not so much. The pasta and most of the food was cold and the pasta on most plates was stuck together in one big ball! I told the manager and he did take some off the bill, which was nice. I also told him we had an option to go there or to Red's and this night, we chose wrong. My dad and I came from Orange County to Simi Valley on the Amtrak to spend the day at the Reagan museum. We planned to have dinner at chi chis since it is conveniently located within walking distance to the Amtrak. Unfortunately our timing was not so good and we had to rush through dinner which was seriously sooo amazing. I had the linguine with clam sauce and the homemade pasta was sooo on point and the flavors were perfect! Also, the sour dough rolls were amazing!! The restaurant was decently packed when we arrived and I was concerned we wouldn't make it out on time, but the service was excellent and we were able to eat and make it out on time to catch our train.
