I have no idea why or how this restaurant can have less than 5 stars. Food was excellent and the pricing was on par with any good (and this food was great!) Italian restaurant. Went there with my Father and ordered the Chianti Classico, bruschetta, petrale piccata and the chicken Caesar, and all of it was excellent! Alas, the tiramisu was still being prepared (was there for lunch when they opened) but ordered the biscotti and gelato, and was a great finish! Came here for dinner last night and this place did not disappoint, from start to finish everything was perfect and so flavorful, we shared the lobster raviolis (which were one of the specials last night) and I'm so glad we did they were so fresh and the raviolis were stuffed with plenty of lobster, my boyfriend ordered the meat raviolis and got them with the tomato cream sauce, again amazing!!! That was the most amazing tomato cream cause I've ever tasted! I got the spaghetti carbonara, wow! The fresh sourdough & pesto OI is to die for (see pic) This place has a good variety on the menu, as well as a spectacular dessert/coffee menu to finish things off. I didn't have a chance to explore the wine menu so I cannot speak to that. Also didn't ask what the corkage fee is either (Our fav wine shop is a few doors down) In comparison with the other Italian places on Main, this one stands TALL! Ambiance is GREAT outside, inside is OK. If you are big on customer service (we are!) Chianti's is like being in a little comedy show. I unfortunately wasn't super impressed with the food here. It was decent, but for the price and location, I expected more. They gave us sourdough bread + some pesto dipping sauce as an appetizer. They only give two half-slices of bread per person and I was they were a little more generous with their bread. The dipping sauce was really good though! We ordered this seafood special (forgot the name but it was shrimp and scallops on tomato and mozzarella) for a second appetizer, the Penne Terre e Mare, one of their specials for the night which was halibut with vegetables and rotini, and cannolis for dessert. I enjoyed the halibut (not so much the rotini or vegetables) and the Penne Terre e Mare, but everything else was kinda meh. The cannolis were really small and didn't really taste like anything, so I was a little disappointed. Great small restaurant in downtown Pleasanton! Small place along Main street in Pleasanton, and had great service and food for whole visit. Salads, entrees and dessert were very fresh, and all tasted homemade. Fresh hot bread served at the beginning of the meal was a great starter to the meal. Food was ok but the whole experience was terrible. The restaurant was noisy with the manager talking so loudly to the 2 people in the bar. There were only like 4-6 customers for a Friday night. It was a hot day and we requested the manager to switch on the fans. He snapped back that the fan above our seating doesn't work. After that he switched on the one above another customer who seems like to be a patron or friend. And they started talking about fans or some kind of cheap jokes. It was irritating. The main server Michael Angelo here is very very rude. He tells us that the way to get his attention is to look at him when he moves around tables. We had a family dinner here tonight for a gender reveal. Our daughter brought in the cake and they knew this ahead . They never mentioned that they were going to charge $32.50 cake cutting fee when they did not cut the cake. We did not find this out until we got the bill for our party of 14. Let me start by saying the food was amazing! The service was also amazing. However, the whole reason I drove 1 hour to go to this restaurant was that I purchased a restaurant.com gift certificate. The owner/manager took my coupon after ordering and eating. He came up to my table about 30 minutes later and informed me that the certificate did not work, and he tried it three times. For anyone who knows how restaurant.com certificates work, once you call to verify the certificate, it automatically verifies it, deeming it invalid. Come to find out, the owner/manager validated the certificate and then told me it was invalid. This was extremely embarrassing because everyone in the restaurant was interested in why there was an issue with my bill and form of payment. The owner/manager did not comp me anything, nor did he do anything to make this embarrassing situation better. I called restaurant.com and found out the owner failed to listen to the whole message and the certificate was used as of the date and time I was at the restaurant. Moreover, this same issue occurred with another couple in the restaurant. They also paid their bill without being able to use the certificate they purchased. Bottom line: The food here is not very good. Overpriced. Not the friendliest staff. The wait staff did not acknowledge us for about five minutes, and when they did, it took an additional 10 minutes to be seated even though there were only a few other customers in the restaurant. We ordered the salmon affumicato for an appetizer. The cheese was so strong I could barely taste the salmon. The Caesar salad had chunks of anchovies in it, way too big for a salad. The gnocchi was decent but very bland, I had to add salt at least 4x to it. We insisted on trying this place with the new ownership but unfortunately there is little to no improvement. While the wait staff was quite nice ...the air condioner was not working on the day we went in and sat outside. The wine we ordered was hot too. We had to ask for ice bucket to cool it. Sadly the food ( at least seafood ) left very much to be desired. We were craving seafood and I ordered the Pescatore Bella Mangiata which was sadly disappointing, they used old seafood..a big NONO!! The sauce itself was not bad but nothing more gross than old seafood. My hunny ordered the Tutto Mare and could not eat it We both ate about 20% of our meal and could not handle the seafood not being fresh. It was by no means gone bad but was close ....my hunny does not like to complain at restaurants so we left after paying our check. For seafood go elsewhere! We love cannoli and saw it on menu and ordered it for dessert...so gross! ..I think it was made days earlier...the cream had no taste & Shell was soft not crunchy as is should be if it was fresh. My Husband and I most always make dinner at home. Since we are now empty nesters, we decided to go out to a nice dinner once a month to explore different restaurants and areas. I recently got a great deal through my Southwest Airlines account to earn extra points buying coupons from Restaurant.com. We purchased a deal for Chianti Reserve. Excited as we arrived to see it was busy, we were seated outside as it was drizzly. It was nice because it was covered and they had heaters. The ambiance was great, the service was great.....the food was terrible. My Husband chose the beef ravioli with meat sauce and I chose (and splurged) on the "special" Halibut with a lemon caper sauce. I heard the price of $25.95 as the server was going over these specials. Dinner came and I was excited for my halibut. Took my first bite and it was just ok. The sauce was not really flavorful and the fish was mildly fishy and had to pick out 6 bones. Ive never had a piece of halibut with bones. I asked my husband how his ravioli was and he said it was under cooked. I tasted it and it was gummy and the sauce tasted like Chef Boyardee canned ravioli from back in college days. Our check came and the Halibut "special" was $34.95. We looked over at the chalk board at the front door and yes it clearly read $34.95. So in a nut shell our $80.00 dinner was $71.00 with tip after coupon. I wasn't going to challenge the Halibut price because I didn't want to look like one of those customers using a coupon and haggling over the price I was given. I would have never ordered that meal at $34.95. Also no soup or salad with that meal for that price??? The best part of our dinner was the cocktail we both ordered. We will never come back. I should have read the reviews on this site before we purchased this restaurant.com coupon. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying $$ for great tasting food, but to walk away extremely disappointed I just had to make this review. read more
