The challenge was a mysterious leak into my downstairs neighbor's unit. With no signs of water in my place, it took some major detective work, but he figured it out. A "creatively installed" ice maker filter hidden inside a wall by the original contractor back in 2007. "I've never seen anything like it!" Upon discovery, Alex immediately stopped the leak, and returned later with parts. He rerouted the waterline, repositioned the filter and shut-off properly to make it very convenient to replace in the future... and made everything right. Okay... stop reading and just call the guy. I am updating this review to reflect an ongoing conversation I had with the owner, Alex, after the appointment. I don't believe they took the appointment as a scam or to rip me off. We had a good conversation regarding how everything could have been better handled, and I admit, I was a little bit heated when I wrote the original review due to my fridge crapping out and them not being able to help me immediately. Alex seems like a good person who truly cares about his customers, business, and employees, and only wants to do right by them. To everyone out there: if you have an issue with a major appliance, be sure to contact the manufacturer first, check if your unit is still under warranty at all and/or will require a certified technician/company to inspect it. Ask as many questions as you can to the manufacturer. If they are still no help, and you need to find a local repairman, be sure to ask around to several locations and see who best fits for your situation. Chicago Repairmen ultimately were not able to help me, but that was only due to the particular manufacturer of my fridge (LG) and the crappy unit. Also to be fair to them, they did not want to open up the back of the fridge to inspect more because that would have voided any active warranty. Turns out LG would not honor the warranty anyway so screw LG in particular. I ended up buying a new fridge for slightly more than what the labor alone would have cost. Anyway, Alex I appreciate you taking the time to reach out to me and discuss the issues on both sides. I called Chicago Repairmen because of a number of issues with my refrigerator. First I noticed a leak from underneath the refrigerator after using the water dispenser. Then I noticed that the temperature in the refrigerator was warmer than usual even with the temperature turned all the way up. After calling Chicago Repairmen, Alex, called me back and asked a couple of questions so that he could better ascertain the problem(s). After speaking with me, Alex determined that a service call was necessary. So I scheduled with Lenore, the office secretary/route manager, and she was an absolute delight! She was easy to communicate with and understood my frustration with having a "non working" refrigerator. After scheduling, I received status updates from Alex regarding his approximate arrival time and he was punctual. He, very quickly and effectively, diagnosed several issues with my refrigerator and explained to me how he arrived at each conclusion. Turns out I needed a new supply hose, water valve and heater element. His prices were very reasonable and the time it took him to complete repairs was shorter than I expected. Alex took his time, tested and re-tested each part along the way and did a thorough job cleaning up after job completion. He was a consummate professional every step of the way and I was impressed with how easy it was for him to troubleshoot the issue(s), determine that a service call was necessary, get me on the schedule to get the repairs completed. We set up a time for them to visit on Monday (I had a non emergency fridge leak) and Justin arrived right on schedule. He brought all the tools he needed and was prepared to handle the problem.
