Absolutely loved everything about Chicken N More! My husband and I dined here a few weeks ago when on a weekend trip to Spokane. We ordered beef brisket, chicken tenders and hushpuppies and loved it all. The owner was so friendly and fun! She made sure that our order was right and we were given the right amount of food - she came out and gave us another hushpuppy because she thought our order needed it. I really wanted to love this place. The staff were overwhelmingly nice and the atmosphere was homey as expected. The ribs were passable but not great. The greens were good but they had no vinegar sauce as is required in any Souhern joint. The red beans and rice were, well, some beams and some rice. Nothing special. Now for the really good....the chicken. It was outstanding....first rate and maybe better than my southern female relatives make. Go with the chicken. In the interest of full disclosure, I grew up on the Gulf Coast and was raised on this type of food. My standards may be a bit higher than the average Spokane diner in this cuisine category. Really great place. The atmosphere is all-south smokehouse. The flavor on the ribs is a great mix of smoke, rub and sauce. They don't just smother them in sauce but balance all three flavorings together. Buffalo wings are freshly fried and excellent. I literally have the staff hi fives in my way out. read more

I called in to Chkn-N-Mo for lunch to be picked up early one morning. I expected to get an answering machine and to have to call back. However, I was created with a friendly employee who was happy to take my order. Having not visited this establishment before, I had a couple of questions. The staff was friendly and answered all of my questions as well as making sure that they had all of the information they needed for the orders being placed. The food was ready on time for pick up and the staff was friendly in greeting me when I arrived. The food was enjoyed by all at the business meeting, including myself! Their homemade dishes are straight out of the south flavor-wise as is their customer service. I ordered a 2-Piece chicken strip with Jo-Jo's and Coleslaw. Their signature BBQ Sauce is a staple with any of their dishes. It has a little kick to it and is the best BBQ sauce I've had this side of the Mississippi! The food was good and the portions were fairly large. I had the catfish dinner. The breading could have used a bit more flavor but it was still good and a large piece fish. The gumbo had good flavor and did not skimp on the sausage. My favorite part was the peach cobbler. The only negative thing I have to say was it can get chilly every time the door gets opened. This is why I love yelp. Never would I have found this place without it especially given it's quiet and kinda shady location in a town I know very little about. Having a couple hours to kill, and not actually being very hungry, I thought I'd stop by to get some emails taken care of while hanging out in this funky, cool, comfy, and clean tiny little hole in the wall. Mind you again, I walked in here not being very hungry, but me being me, and with my deep seated fear of ever missing out on some good grub (I'm only in Spokane for a couple days) I couldn't resist ordering up a ton of these Southern fried classics. Five buffalo wings, a catfish sandwich, some coleslaw and some damn good collard greens and 20 minutes later and I'm happier than a clam at high tide. All the grub was fresh, clean, flavorful and worth every single penny. Most important tho and the reason why this place deserves 6 stars is the southern hospitality that comes with it. The girl at the counter took her time explaining the menu and couldn't have had more enthusiasm for the food she was about to whip up for me and the others. She was a genuine sweetheart that I would be honored to have working at one of my restaurants if she ever wanted to fly outta this strange big-little city. We had a craving for good fried chicken so decided to try Chicken n More. It definitely hit the spot! The place is small, but cozy and squeaky clean. Nice booths and tables. The service is super friendly! They welcomed us and encouraged us to "sit and stay awhile". We ordered in. They don't fry the chicken until you order so we were advised it would take about 25 minutes. We relaxed and enjoyed conversation with the staff while we waited. It was sooo worth the wait! We had fried chicken dinners with two sides and a dinner roll. I had the macaroni salad and the gumbo. Amazing! My hubby had red beans and rice and loved it. The chicken was perfectly fried, with just the right amount of salt; juicy and delicious. The sausage and chicken gumbo was warm and satisfying. I can't wait to come back! read more

Ok. It's a dive. But a good dive. Born and raised in the American South and this is the only place in Spokane that I can find a catfish sandwich. Call ahead for chicken because they cook it fresh. I wanted to love this restaurant, I really did. I was born in Mississippi and spent most of my young life in Alabama and Arkansas. I know good Southern food. I haven't had catfish is soooooooo long, and I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into a wonderful catfish sandwich. We called ahead for take out on Saturday evening. What comes with the catfish sandwich? Nothing. Hmmmmm. What comes ON the catfish sandwich? Nothing. Just bread. What?! A catfish sandwich should be served on grilled bread with remoulade sauce, coleslaw, pickles and tomatoes. The two other people in our party planning to order catfish sandwiches opted out. I decided to scale back and go with the Jo Jo potatoes. My daughter ordered the gumbo and a side of greens. Our order was ready when we rolled up! Points for that. But the Jo Jo's were pale and barely cooked, not golden and crispy as they should be. The gumbo was..... meh. The greens went straight into the compost. Maybe they just had an off night. Chicken N More is the best for Southern food. Not just in Spokane, but anywhere that I've ever been. The owner of this narrow restaurant is straight out of Texas and brought the state's (and probably his family's) finest bar-b-q recipes with him. The chicken is breaded perfectly before being fried and comes out crispy on the outside, yet juicy as can be inside. They also serve More! Ribs and Catfish are the other main protein offerings on the menu. And there are also quite a few sides including baked beans (a mix of savory with a hint of sweet - very good), mashed potatoes with a bit of gravy, potato salad, greens, green beans, Jo Jo's, etc. I would give Chicken N More 5 stars for the above stated offerings alone, but I would give them a million for the barbeque sauce that is in containers on the table. It is literally the best sauce I've ever tasted, barbeque or other. I can't even describe it for fear of not giving it the respect that is due. Just trust me - try it. read more

Best brisket I've ever eaten: moist, flavorful, fall-apart tender. And the catfish was terrific, too. A nice, thick piece of fish, moist, not overcooked, VERY fresh-tasting, ensconced in a crispy, scrumptious deep-fried coating. The owner is a friendly gent who clearly likes people and was fun to talk with. I visit friends in Spokane once a year, and after this visit, they plan to return soon. I honestly dont know how this place stays open. It is always closed and when it is open, it is empty. Service SUCKED here. A friend and I went in yesterday to eat and the teenie-bopper they had taking orders talked on the dang phone for 5 minutes to her roomate/husband or whatever. Awesome! This place is the real-deal! I tried the Fried Chicken, with a side of Gumbo and Red Beans and Rice. The Chicken was fantastic. A delicious crunchy coating and skin with a wonder flavor. The meat inside was moist with great flavor. The Gumbo was the real-deal. I have had Gumbo in Louisiana, and Chicken N More's Gumbo brought me right back. They know how its done. The Red Beans and Rice was also very good, with the right spice and heat. But the Gumbo was so good, I bought a large order to take home with me. I cant wait to try their other menu offerings like the ribs and fried catfish. My only disappointment is that they are closed on Sundays, when I find myself in the city most often.
