Ordered 2 of the bites dinners. The chicken pieces were so small this can't even be considered a dinner portion. $15+ for chicken equalling maybe half a chicken breast. Omg. This was the worst chicken and potatoes ever. Everything was fried to death. Was barely edible. The chicken was so fried/ broasted that the meat was so dry you could choke on it! The potatoes were even worse. Not edible at all. I was supposed to get a 2 liter Coke with the 8 piece dinner but I was told they don't have pop/ soda at all so they are substituting rolls. Those rolls looked like they were a week old. Don't even get me started on the customer service. None. And the 16 year old doing the broasting kept pull the chicken out of the broaster and was stabbing it with tongs to see if it was fully cooked. This happened 2 times before it was put in the carton for me. All in all a $35 dinner and most of it went in the garbage. This store is so dirty and old I will never go there again. I feel as if you can't go wrong with the shack. The chicken is amazing, it's perfectly crispy without too much batter. Places with an extraordinary amount of batter on their chicken are unnecessary. The onion rings with cocktail sauce are so good! I know everyone loves the potatoes but I feel like it's the one thing that's never consistent for me. More often than not, it's just loads of butter but no salt. And that was the only reason this was four stars instead of five. But it's still amazing, overall! read more

2020-07-10. Chicken Shack, New Baltimore. I'm not normally out in this area, but we happened to be passing by and we had a late breakfast, skipped lunch, so needed an early dinner. This location is a stand alone building with it's own parking lot. I recall Chicken Shack chicken being decent, and they're potatoes greasy and buttery. Pulling into a parking spot, I saw that their dining room is open. With COVID-19 still a threat, I didn't see as many precautions as many other restaurants, so we ordered carry out. There was no hand sanitizer, their drinks were still self serve, as were the condiments and utensils. The dining tables were not social distanced, but there were no patrons dining in so it didn't seem that big an issue. I did notice that the table surfaces were not clean, so from a COVID perspective, I'd be a little more cautious. The staff did wear face masks and they do offer delivery via Grub Hub. We passed on the drinks and utensils based on the open air exposure, and ordered a couple of family meals. An 8 pcs family meal with potatoes, and a fish filet meal with coleslaw. Total damage was about $25 and we had enough to feed 4-6. The chicken was as I remembered, crispy on the outside, next to no fat under the skin, and the meat not dried out. The only change was the size of the pieces, they seemed smaller than I remembered. 4 stars. The breasted potatoes were greasy, and not as buttery as I remembered them. The skins were still nice and crispy and the potato center soft and fluffy. Still very decent 4 stars. The fish was lightly battered and drop fried. We went with the classic cod filets vs the English pub style fish fingers. The filets were shaped like V's, the kind Captain Highliner makes. But the cod was cod and was nice and meaty. The cook on it was just a tad overdue as it was starting to dry out a bit. The tartar sauce was Heinz in a packet. Nothing to write home about here. 3 stars. The coleslaw was a tiny cup. Creamy style and on the sweet side. Not bad though, just needed more of it considering it was a side and not a garnish. 3 stars. Overall, a solid 3,5 stars. They could have better precautions during this time of the pandemic, so I'm knocking the down rather than bumping them up. 3 stars overall. Our family loves the food at Chicken Shack, and our dinner tonight was delicious as usual. Unfortunately, we went in to order our food and were greeted by a young man with a face mask barely covering his mouth. When I glanced around at the other four or five employees serving up the food, I realized only one had both his nose and mouth covered by his mask, and one wasn't wearing one at all. I mentioned that to the guy at the register, and he didn't even acknowledge my statement. Very rude and unsafe conditions in my opinion. read more

Called in an order they told me 30 minutes. Okay that's not bad. I went to the drive through to pick up my order. The drive through worker told me to pull up to the window. There was one car in front of me. After waiting in the drive through for over 20 minutes I decided to go around and go inside. The girl couldn't figure out the change finally gave me my food. I mentioned the drive through and she told me I should have rang the doorbell to remind them. Got home and my food is warm at best. They have changed the breading on the chicken bites and they are now disgusting. This Chicken Shack has really gone downhill. read more

I actually prefer Chicken Shack wings over any competitor. The chicken wings are larger and meatier than anywhere else I have gone within a 15 mile radius. The serving size for the dinner is 10-12 pieces with a side and a roll for around $12 with tax. Not a bad price if you ask me. The location of the place is a bit odd and the parking is a nightmare, there is also NO handicap parking which is annoying particularly when my mom is with me. Not a big deal otherwise. Pro tip, if you call ahead your wait time is reduced, since all chicken is made to order. I have never dined in although every time I have gone the seating area is somewhat clean. I always ask for extra butter with the broasted potatoes, it's a preference thing. Cashiers have all been accommodating and what you would expect at a place like this. Not overly friendly but not out right unpleasant. For the most part my chicken is always cooked to perfection as well as the potatoes. The butter they use is seasoned and gives the potatoes that irresistible taste that is extremely addicting. Only twice has my chicken felt slightly under cooked (I don't mean pink meat I mean crispiness) and I had to stick them in the oven to get them crispy, one of these times my potatoes were also under cooked. No real major complaints otherwise. I do wish their sides menu was a bit more extensive perhaps adding a couple more vegetable options would be great. Ohhh and if a chicken place that makes chicken this good would add chicken gizzards and chicken livers, I would be in chicken heaven. read more

They have unique coleslaw, so you'll want to try that as well. I never stray away from my go to order, but I'm sure other options are just as tasty. I ordered on 9/10/23 and when I got home to eat it, I realized that it wasn't fresh! When I called back, they were either closed or didn't answer. I call back on 9/11/23 and the woman who answered was RUDE! I explained the situation and she jumps to how they prepare their food and how it's fresh! Which clearly was a lie! I let her finish and she says that she could take my name and put it in a book for a potato. I asked her name and she says 'it will be in the book' I asked for her name and she tells me to have a good day and hangs up. I emailed corporate because this can not be how chicken shack treats customers and if it is, I don't and won't be patronizing again especially seeing as tho there are MULTIPLE other businesses who know how to treat ppl and they serve chicken! read more

I've eaten at Chicken Shack for many many years. Since the one at 11 Mile and Ryan opened. Moved out here 5 years ago and this is by far the absolute worst Chicken Shack I've ever eaten at. I've given it multiple tries and it never ceases to disappoint. The food is horrible. The place of business is run down and dirty. The staff at times have been rather rude. I have given this restaurant a number of chances to impress me, 5 to be exact, and have been meh'ed every time. The only think I love about Chicken Shack is the shack potatoes, and this one doesn't pile on enough fat (butter and seasoning) for those potatoes. The chicken tenders are decent, but that's because I dip them in BBQ sauce to hide the blandness that all the chicken possesses. I recently tried to fried shrimp, but was greatly disappointed when I saw the overcooked shrimp was breaded. This is like the frozen shrimp I get from Kroger and pop in the fryer. I recently had indelible experience with the owner of this location that I can't be more thankful for. He came into where I work months ago and talked up how good their ribs are and really encouraged me to come try them. He impressed upon me how much effort and pride they took to perfect them. Though intrigued I was speculative considering it's a chicken joint. Out of the blue, months later he still remembered me and brought me a plate of ribs to my work. The owner...seriously, who does that? And OMG were they awesome! I can't say enough about the ownership and how GREAT the ribs are. By the time I got my order home it was cold and it appeared it may have been reheated a couple of times. Cooked to order midget chicken. Taste is good but value is little. The pieces are very small...I got a wing about as big as my thumb. The breasts are the size of three fingers placed together. BEWARE: This location is known to short the piece count. If you order a 12 piece box, make sure to count it before you drive off. Odds are you have only recieved 10 or 11 pieces. To compliment other food prepared for a small party I hosted, I pre-paid a few days early for three slabs of ribs and a gallon of coleslaw at Chicken Shack. The food was ready when requested and it was delicious. When most people think of Chicken Shack, they naturally think about the chicken. But what they are missing out on is the ribs. In my humble opinion, they have the best ribs in Michigan. The meat falls off the bone and the sauce is yummy. The slaw was a bit excessive for our needs, but for 13 bucks I could not pass it up. The slaw is sweet and must have tons of sugar in it, and it is chopped very finely. I was a little worried the tray might drip in the car, but it did not. I eat Chicken Shack once a year around the same time... my mom has a habit of ordering about $150 worth of Chicken Shack for a party or something around this time of year, and this year was no different. She got their coleslaw, chicken bites (or whatever they're called -- the boneless chicken things), and their broasted potatoes, as they call them. I'll say the food's pretty good, but the prices are just too high for what you get. I thought the coleslaw was pretty disgusting though. For one, it's minced instead of shredded (personal preference), but what really bothered me was that it tasted kind of... I don't know... dirty? And it seemed like they added waaay, way, way, way, way too much sugar. The potatoes were good as usual, but what's not to like about butter-soaked anything? I like the fact they hand batter each piece of chicken they make too, and the chicken (to my knowledge) isn't frozen, but I think I'd sooner go to KFC. KFC's a little cheaper, and I actually prefer their seasoning, although they're less consistent... mostly because everything is cooked to order at Chicken Shack, unlike at KFC. Chicken Shack at about 5pm on a Saturday night when I went in for a pick-up order was booming. I've tended to wonder why this place has managed to stay open for so long, but uh... I guess that's why. I will say the building itself is a dump and falling apart. With a name like 'Chicken Shack', I didn't know what to expect. I certainly wasn't expecting to have awesome chicken and ribs. Even their fish is good. The good: Ribs are very good as is the chicken and fries...personally the potatoes are overrated. The Cole slaw is slightly above average and the chicken tenders are very good. The bad: Expensive as hell and not worth the money. Also, so many times this place has given us chicken that is literally the size of a golf ball and they count it as a piece..
