My friend and I got takeout from here. We were excited to try the newest addition to the restaurant lineup at the Mall in Columbia. Unfortunately, it was a big let down. The chicken itself was the most successful part of the meal; it was moist and well seasoned, I'd give it a 4/5. The sides on the other hand were a disaster. The portions were very small, especially compared to other Peruvian chicken places I've had. The least-bad was the chaufa. FYI, it has bacon in it which I liked but some may not. The corn and tomato side that I got was inedibly terrible. It is hard to take fresh corn and tomatoes and make them taste terrible but somehow this restaurant figured out how to do it. It had a strange, acrid flavor. AND for some reason there was an up charge to choose this side. My friend got a side of black beans and said they were terrible, I tried a bite and agreed. They had a weird sour flavor. Also, the sauces that came with the chicken were teeny, tiny. Nowhere near enough for the chicken. So disappointing. For Peruvian chicken try Grille Chik'n Pollo down the street or Sardi's. read more

I was looking forward to trying this place because I love Peruvian chicken and have tried so many all over town, but this place is too stingy. I ordered a whole chicken meal and they're rationing the sides. The guy literally counted 4 pieces of plantain, 4 pieces of yuca and a small spoon of rice for the container. I was soooo excited for this place to open and couldn't wait to visit. The look of the restaurant is really nice, clean and modern. Bar area is smaller than what I imagined, but nice enough. I wasn't expecting to have to go to the counter to order food. I thought this was sit-down service, but that was okay. I ordered the quarter chicken white, the cold slaw, rice chaufa, and the churro donuts. The chicken was delicious. Very flavorful and moist. Especially bring it was a breast piece. The cold slaw was AWFUL! No flavor whatsoever. I ended up tossing it. The chaufa was good, but I could've done without the bacon in it. And the use basmati rice threw me off. The churros doubuts were AMAZING!! I'd go back just for those. They were fresh and with the perfect amount of sweetness. The accompanying chocolate sauce went perfectly! To sum up, I'd visit again, but it wouldn't be my first choice. Chicken is good, but their sides are reallllly lacking. They need more (and better) options. I was very excited to try this place and was so disappointed. The concept of Peruvian charbroiled chicken + whiskey sounded pretty cool to me. The place looks nice and clean. Menu offerings are very appealing. I ordered 1/4 white chicken with guacaca + chips and arepitas. My fiance ordered the mac and cheese with chicken. We both got pineapple old fashion. My chicken was cold, and the plantain chips were stale. The arepitas were kinda nice. My fiance almost stabbed herself with a sharp bone in her mac&cheese. You don't expect to find bones in a pulled chicken mac and cheese. The old fashioned was also a bit disappointing because it came from a keg (made in-house) but still tasted watered down and so basic. We had the churro donuts and that was amazing good! In total we spent $53 so I think it's very pricy for what we got. Not sure I'd give it another shot to be honest. There's so much better Peruvian chicken around read more

I've been meaning to try this restaurant in DC because I heard such great reviews but just never got around to it. To my surprise while I was in Columbia over the weekend I see that there is another location. I arrive at the restaurant near closing (something I never do) and I was welcomed with great customer service. Having worked in the service industry I understand how challenging it can be to have customers enter your establishment and you are ready to go home. Anyways very polite and great atmosphere. To the food I ordered the La Comadre Arepa, Yuca Fries, Mac'N Queso, and Pollo Frito. The La Comadre Arepa was really good, I will definitely order that again. The bread was perfect, it had the right amount of softness to crispy crunch, I could eat that alone. Onto the filling everything was perfect, the proportions, seasoning, the flavors just all worked so well together. The only thing I would change is the assembly of the Arepa. Instead of taking one bite and getting all the beautiful flavors and had to take multiple from different sections to get that perfect bite, aside from that 10/10. The Yuca fries, flavors were good but it was dry, will give it another try but ordering earlier in the day. Mac'N Queso, I wanted to love you but you broke my heart. This style of mac and cheese did great on consistency but the sauce... it just lacked flavor and the pasta was too soft. Pollo Frito everything in the description about this sandwich says yes, and the chicken inside was a absolutely no. The breaded chicken was very hard and was not edible. The sandwich was good minus the chicken I will probably substitute it the next time I order this sandwich. The food here is nothing special. My chicken was juicy, but it lacked seasoning. The brown rice was bland as were the yuca fries. The black beans were so watered down causing them to lose any small bit of flavor that they may have had. I personally think Sardis and Nandos is 100% better. I did not try any of the drinks, but the folks at the bar seemed to be enjoying them. read more

Who woulda thought a casual 'order at the counter' Peruvian chicken joint, whiskey bar behind a partition, and speakeasy tucked away in the back would work? Apparently, some genius did, and they did it 5. Several weeks after they opened, we sat at the bar for an early dinner. Bartenders were still being trained and hiring was in progress. Didn't know it was happy hour until one of the fantastic bartenders told us (we did enjoy the whiskey). Shout-out to the bar crew - they are seriously awesome. We ordered yucca fries and they came hot, fresh, and fast. There were only 5 to the order, but priced accordingly, so we ordered them 4 more times: yes, they were that good. I had the La Comadre, an arepe stuffed with chicken and all kinds of deliciousness including maduros (check it out on the menu). I don't recall what my daughter had (whiskey bar, remember), but the side of coleslaw was outstanding. I'm still disappointed that I didn't order churros (next time). C&W is 1/2 mile from home, so it will be our favorite local spot and that says a lot because the mile surrounding Columbia Mall has some seriously good restaurants. I was excited and hopeful for this place. My friend & I sat at the bar, which was NOT busy and we waited a good 10-15 minutes before anyone came to greet or acknowledge us. We sat on one side of the bar and could see the bartenders on the other side chatting and both on their phones. Finally, a bartender decided to come over and offer us drinks...which we decent, but we did NOT get any water. Isn't that normally the first thing you give customers? Anyways, we got our drinks and ready to order our food...bartender was attending to other patrons, but certainly in no rush to attend to other people. Throughout the evening we constantly had to ask the bartender for something, rather than them checking in and asking if we needed anything. My friend asked for water and they only brought out 1...there's 2 of us. Do we need to spell it out for them that we both wanted water? I've been in the restaurant industry and the service & experience was TERRIBLE. The WORST thing of evening was as we were eating there was a COCKROACH crawling on the bar in front of us & our food. When we brought it to the bartenders attention they didn't seem mortified or embarrassed that it was there or that we saw this. They eventually got rid of it, but no apology...no NOTHING. The bartenders were semi-friendly, but service, food and the experience will not bring me back & I will certainly NOT tell people to go there. Very disappointing...beyond disappointing. read more
