We saw this restaurant (on the 2nd floor) in the commercial campus - decided to try it Waiting time: I understand restaurants these days facing staff issues, but you can at least acknowledge us and tell us how much time it will take- we were there standing for 10 minutes and no one came after 15-20 minutes, we got our table but again same wait time - no one was coming to take our order or even inform us about the delay Seems it was only 2 servers but the thing was- not all the tables were occupied just 4-5 tables. Anyway we finally succeeded to placed the order Mala Chicken Chicken fried rice Chicken lo Mein food was just okay, as we were hungry, so we did not pay much attention to how the food was- except fried rice- the rice was not cooked and it was hard. we called the server and informed her but she was like- it's how we cook - if you want it, then okay otherwise there is not much we can do.- she was blunt in her reply from the beginning - we felt they are just doing just for the sake of it. customer service- very poor; food- just okay waiting period (sitting-placing order-asking for check)- horrible and guess what- in the bill- they added a 20% gratuity tip ( we were just 3) - I specifically asked- ' is this New Hampshire rule' - if not I am not paying this and I just paid the food bill. it's not like food was totally bad- but there are other things you consider- and they failed. We found this Chinese restaurant in Lincoln NH during our family trip to White Mountains during foliage season. The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor of a small shopping center, but it is very spacious. The staff was very friendly and patient. I ordered one beef Lo Mien, one fried rice and one beef with broccoli to go. By the way, the beef with broccoli did not come with rice, that was a bit disappointing. Cost me about $3 for a white rice, quiet pricy! The beef Lo Mien tasted good and my sons loved it. The pork fried rice was acceptable as I did find some "fat and only fat" pork inside the fried rice. The beef with broccoli was terrible. The beef was way too thick and chewy. The portion was very small - lots of broccoli with only a few slice of beef. The sauce on the beef with broccoli was just basically soy sauce. The food was reasonable priced (except for the $3 white rice), but the portion of each dish was small. Following a day of strenuous hiking and being really hungry we were excited to find a Chinese restaurant, which also happened to be completely empty. The service was friendly and attentive and the food arrived rather fast, but the food quality left much to be desired. The hot and sour soup got the "hot" and "sour" right, but not much else. I would have rated that a 6 out of 10. Still, that turned out to be the best part of the meal. The "Vegetarian paradise" consisted to over 90% of string beans and deep fried tofu and remnants of some other vegetables, all smothered in a thick, brown sauce. It looked unappealing and tasted the same way. That was a 5 out of 10. The main course - so we thought - was Szechuan Spicey fish, but what we received lacked a key ingredient, namely fish. At least 80% of it was dough and more dough and more tasteless dough. I had eaten about half a piece (there may have been 8 pieces in total) and still had not tasted anything like fish. That was a 1 out of 10. The rice, which has to be ordered separately was of the cheapest quality. We were hungry, concentrated on the "Vegetarian Paradise", had 2 beers - the Chinese tea was actually good and cost "only" $4.25. Make no mistake, this place is not inexpensive, our bill for 2 came to $75 plus tips. But I also know that we will never visit this kitchen nightmare again. We are staying in town for a family vacation, I've been coming to this area for 40 years and Chieng Garden was always a stop as a child, once I was married and now with my grown children. My SIL & I grabbed take away and shared a Pu Pu platter, pork fried rice and steamed veg dumplings. We both enjoyed everything. I do have to say with the steamed veg dumplings they were a bit to doughy and not as much filling as I personally feel there could be. The ginger sauce was DELISH! Very thing was hot, tasty and the teriyaki beef was tender and flavorful. I was a bit disappointed that I had to pay for each of my sauces, hot mustard, duck sauce and ginger. If I had chosen to dine in, those sauces would have been considered "free" and included. But for take away I had to pay $1,00 each. I have never been to ANY Chinese restaurant that doesn't include a ginger sauce with certain appetizers and that would include dumplings, which I did get and had to pay $1.00 for that sauce. Already prices were the going rate so to add in those extras that almost came to another appetizer price. The quality has changed severely... - 7pm on a Saturday an no one else there, a red flag that should have meant get pizza downstairs (as everyone was there!). - No rice with meals. You need to pay extra. - Large wonton soup, came with only 3 wontons, mostly broth, and packed in styrofoam cups. Yikes. - Kung Pao Chicken?? Haha. It was more like celery special. Maybe 4 or 5 pieces of chicken, and mostly celery with a sprinkling of peanuts. Seriously worst rendition Iv ever had of this dish, anywhere. - I asked for spicy, absolutely no red pepper to be seen anywhere. - Containers were not packed completely. Lots of empty room, and not packed to brim like most true small mom and pop chinese restaurants. - We spent over 40 bux, and the lightness of the paper bag should have also been a red flag. Very disappointing meal. I have personally blacklisted this place, seeing they have started catering to the tourist. If you care about quality and fairness, the locals go to your restaurant. The egg rolls, very expensive for being so grease logged that it filled the bag they were in and then leaked through onto everything else in the bag. The beef teriyaki was okay, but then the boneless ribs had an acrid and sweet flavor simultaneously. Unpleasant and unwelcome. I also ordered gai poo lo mein, but I found that it also had an undercurrent of acrid flavor that really came through in the milder portions, like the baby corn or just noodles. Perhaps they didn't speak English well, perhaps they had no interest in speaking to me, but I couldn't get much of a reaction when complimenting them on their lighting: they had these wicked cool strobing icicle lights over the tables. Enough of the people complaining about coming from areas where they have dozens of gourmet Szechuan options. This isn't Manhattan or Cambridge, the boujee population may vacation here but you're sharing space with the locals. This is rural New Hampshire. This is not the epicenter for Michelin starred cuisine. This is considerably better than "mall food court Chinese food" and that should be enough. Lol. The General Tso's Chicken was adequate, if not a little on the saltier side. Basic in its presentation, the sauce had a deep reddish brown color and the container had a smattering of broccoli in the corner. It had a touch more ginger than I'm used to, but it was not too bad. The chicken fingers were decent. Fully cooked, just on the very edge of rubbery but still well within preferred consistency. The egg rolls were maybe a little soggy but we also got take-out, not eat-in. Chicken fried rice, OK. Lo Mein, reasonable. Nothing wild, nothing to give an award to, but really not a lot to hate. I wouldn't run back here, plan an itinerary around it or consider it a "destination" but I'd have zero problem ordering from here again. It hit the spot without a lot of flair. read more

Chieng Garden is a fixture in Lincoln, NH. If you've been there, you know it's pretty consistent. Nothing fancy, simply food to fill your belly. If you're looking for outstanding Asian food with a lot of flavor that you will rave about, Chieng Garden would not be my recommendation for you. We lunched at Chieng Garden and ordered the PuPu Platter for two. The food was decent, though I think the fragments of spare rib meat served off the bone is a pretty bad substitute for actual spare ribs. The beef skewers were quite good, as were the chicken skewers. I ordered hot and sour soup and it was so watered down that there wasn't much hot and even less sour. So...unless you are absolutely dying for American Chinese food and nothing else will do, I'd recommend dining at one of the other eateries in the Lincoln, NH area. read more

This restaurant is aboveground, and has its own little elevator if accessibility is an issue. The decor was badly dated when I last visited over a decade ago, and it hasn't improved since. The menu is pretty limited. If this place were in an urban area, I would think very little of it. However, it isn't, and it offers one of the few plant-based sources of protein available up here. The tofu dish I got was extra crispy, just a tad spicy and slightly more sweet, and did at least offer some pleasing bits of seaweed mixed in. The other tofu and mixed vegetable dish I shared was slightly less appealing, but still acceptable. If you're in the mountains and you're hungry, you might as well give this place a shot. read more
