My Dad and I LOVE Chieng Garden. Even though we only come once or twice a year, we are recognized by the family who owns it and greeted kindly. We always have the waiter who is a ~35 year old man who is very quiet but always gets everything accurate. The fried ice cream is fantastic-they light it on fire at your table (they put vodka on the plate then ignite it-really cool!). Definitely worth a shot, especially if you've been skiing for the day because you have an excuse to pig out. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because the booths are in disrepair. My Dad said that if he won the lottery, he'd give an anonymous donation so they could get new booths. That hasn't happened just yet (darn), so assume the booths are still a bit patchy. read more

I didn't expect much when I had to take an elevator up to the restaurant. It didn't look very clean, but when I stepped inside the restaurant, the room was very warm and inviting. The staff greeted me with smiles and hellos. The gentleman said my name right away. He even knew what I had ordered online. Transaction was smooth and quick. The food was great. My husband had chicken egg foo yung. I had General Tso Chicken. We also ordered chicken fried rice and crab Rangoons. The General Tso Chicken was the best I've ever had - perfect sweet and spicy balance and the chicken was cooked to perfection. My husband said his egg foo yung was the best. They were fluffy and big. The gravy tasted great. I liked the crunchiness of the crab Rangoons but I feel they needed more filling. I gave 4 stars because we ordered egg rolls and never received them. However, I called the restaurant and they said they would credit the money back on my credit card. They were having trouble doing that and they called me back and text me to let me know. It was around $6.50 and we were so appreciative of the good food, we are just going to give the $$ to them. Just check your order when you pick it up. read more

I am from NYC so I do not have high hopes for small town Chinese restaurants. It's too bad that most of these Chinese restaurants have to make "American Chinese" food....food that Chinese people would not eat. :) This restaurant is like any other American Chinese restaurant. The food was nothing special...perhaps only 2 stars. They had sea foam green colored walls....ugh...does not help the appetite, so 1 star. My wife had a lunch special and said the only thing that tasted good was the wonton soup, figures soup, hard to mess that up. Her meal was far less than par. I got the appetizer sampler which came with dry beef teriyaki, dry chicken teriyaki, egg roll that was eatable, a dry chicken wing, 2 one bite crab rangoons and 5 bite size pieces of boneless spareribs that were so dry I couldn't even eat them. We also got a side of pork fried rice which made it past the eatable state. Oh and everything was cool not at all hot, even the wonton soup. All that and 2 sodas for 40.00. The server never even asked us if everything was OK, there's a reason for that, he has already learned his lesson. When there is 1 party in the place for lunch you know why. Located on the 2nd floor of the Lincoln Square (above Elvio's Pizzeria). Chieng Gardens offers the basic Chinese fare, chef specialties, and luncheon specials. The interior of the dining area is bright with walls and high ceilings (along roof) painted a very light green and dark green wood trim. The center tables had linen table cloths and pink linen napkins. The booth tables (no linens) near the windows have a very nice view of the mountains. The friendly waiters are dressed in white dress shirts and black pants. I stopped here for a lunch break during skiing at Loon. I was seated near the window, given complementary hot tea and ice water, and I ordered the Pork Lo Mein luncheon special ($5.95 - with pork fried rice, chicken wing, and hot & sour soup). The soup was decent, not too spicy. The meal came out in two plates (good portion of lo mein & a large chicken wing) and a small bowl of fried rice. The fried marinated chicken wing was crispy outside and juicy inside. The pork fried rice (dark color) was good too. The pork lo mein (noodles, pork strips, mushrooms, & vegetables) was too much and I had the rest to go and given the check and fortune cookie. I really wanted all those bad reviews to be wrong, so I tried it out, but it was not to be. I was staying nearby and wanted take-out at 7:45 on a Monday holiday. The streets were quiet, as most people had headed for home from this resort town. The restaurant was quiet too, with just two couples eating. It's on the second floor over a pizza place. It has an elevator. It's clean and tastefully decorated. My appetizer combo and Chicken Lo Mein were ready promptly in 10 minutes, as promised. The price was slightly higher than I expected, but not bad. The problem was that the food just wasn't good. It was all bland. The Chicken Fingers were hard, over-fried and chewy inside. An Egg Roll was mushy and way too salty. Teriyaki, boneless ribs and a chicken wing we're a bit better. The Lo Mein was very mushy, too. It was dry with little flavor. There was some soft chicken, but very few veggies. I'm sure that this food was pre-cooked and just heated up to order. I would rather have waited longer for fresh food! By taste alone the food wasn't bad, but the descriptions on the menu were a little misleading. Doesn't seem like any of the meals come with the rice that most other Chinese restaurants have standardized. The curry chicken had 3ish small pieces of chicken and the rest of the plate was onion. The thing that really bugged us is a 20% service fee was automatically added to the itemized receipt in a way that my mother didn't see, almost like they were trying to get a second tip. My family and I have been coming to this restaurant for about 10 years and have yet to be disappointed. Coming from NYC I am used to divey Chinese places and I have to say this one is very consistent and flavorful. We always order sweet and sour chicken, beef and broccoli, veggie Lo mein and Moo shu pork. When getting cocktails we enjoy their fruity scorpion bowls that can be ordered for 2. For family style dinner this is a great place. My only gripe is the service is slower the busier it is. read more

nothing specifically great about the place. sweet&sour soup was not good. egg drop soup was ok. shrimp dumplings had too thick covering and not that good. tangerine chicken was okay. lo mein was too oily and the chicken in it tasted old. the sofa backrest was common between two cabins, so not good if you have kids on the other side who kept rocking the backrest. and they add 15% service fee by default! we were a party of 2. we should have the option of tipping what we want. one star for the courtesy offered by one of the servers for atleast offering a sorry when our food came late due to the rush they had at the restaurant. read more

Confused. Very. Wandering around the Lincoln area for an overnight birthday roadtrip on Sunday, we stumbled upon Chieng Garden which appeared to be open relatively late when no one else was. I ran upstairs, snagged a menu and headed for a few hours of poolside fun until we were ready to order. Flashforward to 10pm. After spending a good 5 minutes wondering what to feast on in all of my indecisiveness, I picked up the phone and dialed. ....Nothing. I dialed again. ...Nothing. A couple more times for good measure. ....Nothing. Loaded up in the car and drove over. ....Nothing. No one home. So basically, the hours on their door, menu and advertisement appeared to be totally incorrect with no explanation to be found. Ultimately, we ended up finding a lone pizza place still open but still, disappointing! This was the most horrible Chinese I have ever had in my life. I got Sizzling Shrimp Rice soup. The rice wasn't even fresh - it was dehydrated. The soup itself was just a flavorless with carrots and pea pods. But it gets worse. The seafood fried rice wasn't even fried rice. It was just plain white rice with shrimp, canned scallops and fake crabmeat. It did have some peas and sprouts. But fried rice is NOT plain white rice. They also force you to buy a large size for 2. They don't have small portions of what you would typically get at a real chinese place. read more

The person who serves here is rude to the extreme, I asked couple of extra bowls for my kids she said there's no bowls, I went to their owner and had got few bowls and told her that seems bowls are still there. Next we asked straws for the kids and she didn't respond and I asked again thinking that she hadn't heard, she started shouting that I heard you I will give it, I told her that since you didn't respond I thought probably you didn't hear and if you feel you're exhausted or feel like overworked please talk to your owner and get a break, don't show your anger to the customer which is not right and we are here for good experience too not just food. We ordered take out once I arrived I was surprised to see the hostess area very crowded as I walked in further I noticed the dining room was also very crowded. I started to get my hopes up that this might just be a good choice since the reviews are so negative. On the drive home I didn't get that Chinese food aroma you would normally get. Once home the disappointment continued. All of the dishes we got we're pretty bad. They added bamboo shoots in everything including the fried rice, the two chicken dishes and the a beef dish. The North Woodstock-Lincoln area does not seem to be a great location for Chinese food. We preferred the food here to the Imperial Palace in North Woodstock, but the overall experience was marred by the inattentive service. First, the food. The vegetarian egg rolls were quite good. Two of us got similar main courses -- vegetables with garlic sauce. One ordered mild, the other normal -- and they both came out the same, which was a bit too spicy even for the one who liked spicy food. Despite that, the flavor was pretty good. Service was another matter. We were continually struggling to get the attention of the waitress. She kept forgetting to bring water, or else bringing it for just one person at a time. It took us most of the meal to get water for all four people, by which time the first people needed more water, which, of course, they were unable to get. Every other request got equally inattentive treatment. This can't be blamed on the crowds. At a time that other restaurants we wanted to visit had waits of 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 hours, this place was half empty. Now we know why. read more

the chicken finger, wings and lo mein was good but the staff wasn't nice at all they had brought out the food and first thing I see is the spring roll was burnt so I grabbed a staff member and asked for another one they brought me out another roll but it was a egg roll not a spring roll. Close to the end of my meal the gentleman comes to my fiancé and mine table forcing me to eat the burnt spring roll that they brought out after I asked the first time nicely to bring me a nice unbrunt one. My fiancé and I will not be going back to get food from them again. We went to grab a menu and it was written on from pervious customers they are reusing the menus that has been written on. I felt like something was wrong when I came into the restaurant, and encountered the host. She seemed overbearing, and bossy. I then knew something was wrong when I saw salt and pepper shakers at the table, and a noticeable absence of condiments that are typically found at a Chinese restaurant. I didn't expect anything more than standard, or even sub-standard, basic, Americanized Chinese food. What I got instead felt insulting. Something is fundamentally wrong with this place. Even the rice seemed old, and was inedible. I am not finicky, I also cooked professionally for many years - not only the worst Chinese food I've ever had, this was the worst meal ever served to me. If you can't even serve a decent bowl of white rice, then you need to shut your place down. read more

I want to say this first: I agree with another yelper who said this is the first Chinese restaurant I've come across where an entree does NOT COME WITH WHITE RICE. That alone causes them to lose one star. I am imagining all of the flak they must get from customers who assume white rice will be in that takeout bag, only to find their entree... so, $12.99 for my Spicy Szechuan Chicken with no rice. Thank goodness somebody else ordered veggie fried rice and was willing to share with me. They were very stingy with the chicken in my dish. I counted 4 SMALL pieces of chicken. The sauce was alright, but did not taste Szechuan to me. The broccoli and green bell pepper in the dish were cooked perfectly, not too soggy, not too crunchy. My daughter ordered fried chicken fingers, and they were okay, but the chicken was a weird texture, as if it had been finely minced. Never had chicken fingers like that, but she said it was okay. For me and my husband, the highlights were the fried rice. I shared the veggie fried rice with someone, and he ordered shrimp fried rice. He said it was the best fried rice he's had. It tasted light somehow, and had a few more veggies than you usually find, including some cabbage which gave it a nice crunch. The eat-in space is surprisingly huge, but I am guessing this is mostly a take-out place. One large family was eating there when we picked up our food. Oh! I forgot that they are also pretty stingy with their condiments. Another yelper had said they charged her $1 for each sauce, and added it would have been free if she had eaten in. I think they stopped doing that. When we picked up our food, I asked for soy sauce, and the woman said tersely, 'it's in the bag.' When we got back to our cabin, I saw there were TWO soy sauce packets and one tiny dipping sauce which nobody wanted anyway. I think 4 different items (chicken fingers, Szechuan Spicy Chicken, Veggie Fried Rice and Shrimp Fried Rice) deserve more than 2 soy sauce packets, frankly. Chinese is my all-time favorite. I live in Haverhill, so my go to has always been New Century. Maybe my opinion of this place is unfair due to the bar New Century has always set. Chieng Garden was utterly disappointing. The General Gau's chicken tasted very odd. Almost as if the breading had been sitting out for days. The prices were also astronomical. Honestly even if I didn't live in Haverhill, I'd probably drive the 30 mins to get New Century. read more
