Orange-ish Chicken
Elma H.

I was really excited to try Chiko, as it has some of the best reviews and constantly wins awards. Unfortunately, it was the worst meal I've had in DC. I opted for the Orange-ish chicken because it's one of their signature dishes and the description sounded excellent. However, the chicken I got was exceptionally dry, even when covered in sauce. The meat was red/pink, hard and stringy - almost as if the chicken was cooked the day before and then fried when I got there. It's possible that I got a bad batch or went at an off time (Tuesday at 5pm), but for $25, this was nearly inedible.

This is a cute Asian food shop in DuPont that can be found throughout the DMV region. I personally thought this place had chill vibes and was very casual. You order food from the self-order kiosk and sit anywhere within the restaurant. The food came like 10ish minutes after we placed our order. The prices for this place, in my opinion, were a little steep compared to other places in the DMV + Panda Express. Although the food didn't have the best value per se, I still enjoyed my meal. Orange-ish Chicken - stand out from this assortment of food. Chicken was crispy and the sauce complemented the chicken. Rose Tteokbokki - also included the meat. It was pretty good, although I didn't enjoy the mushrooms with the dish (I'm not a fan of mushrooms) Kimchi - pretty standard. Nothing to say Overall, I would go back to this place if the occasion arises.

Shrimp dumplings!
Lonnie S.

Got the dumplings, and only regret not ordering more. I did the happy hour special and got chicken, and the shrimp dumplings by the suggestion of the host- he was also amazing nice when i came to pick up. Dumpling had their own unique sauces and both sauces were just as good as the dumplings themselves. I definitely recommend this place, and would love to come back with a large group to order one of everything on the menu.

Galbi dumplings, wings, and rice cakes

Came here right around 5 and landed in time for the happy hour. We luckily got right into the dining room and didnt have a wait at all! We ordered quite a few plates and just shared for a party of 4. We tried the happy hour shrimp dumplings and the galbi dumplings! The galbi had a nice sweeter (mayo based?) sauce with scallions. Our small plates came staggered which was great cuz they came out as soon as they were done. The fried rice bowl was definitely for smokey flavor palate lovers with the bacon, peppers, egg, and charred pulled chicken. The green beans were delicious and a little spicy. The brussel sprouts were phenomenal! They were crispy with garlic and mushrooms... so good! The fried korean wings were savory and crispy even with the sauce on them! We had a full order of 6 and even wanted more! We did have a few drinks too. The pear spritz thing was delicious! We loved it and cant wait to be back! Jake n kev

Chiko unites Korean and Chinese cuisine and the result is a marriage that will delight your tastebuds and make you a repeat customer! We ordered the Orange-ish Chicken, Chilled Peanut Noodles, Soy Glazed Brisket, Chicken dumplings and Veggie Dumplings. Each was a stand out dish worth ordering again, with ingredients that blended well together while maintaining their distinct flavors. They use a house made pickled jalapeño in their dishes that my spicy loving Mexican tastebuds enjoyed. My son, who is more heat sensitive would have preferred to leave out the jalapeños. The dumplings were PERFECTLY pan-fried and the filling had just the right amount of seasoning and moisture. The accompanying sauces were AMAZING...don't let a drop of that heavenly sauce go to waste! The Orange-ish chicken deserves its own review! The dish blended the perfection of Korean fried chicken and the Chinese flavors of orange sauce. I especially appreciated that the orange sauce was served separately which helped retain the crunch of the chicken. Service was friendly with reasonable wait time. Though small, we had no problem finding seating for 3. Well done Chiko! OurCalifornia family is excited to visit your CA location in Encinitas!!

Chicken Wings

Being a dumpling superfan, I was frantically searching for a dumpling fix when I relocated from Asia. Fortunately, not far away from my stomping grounds, I found my fix. Was it the sign that hangs outside the doorway that advertises "Dumpling Happy Hour" or was it the fact that this restaurant chain has been so highly regarded by institutions such as the James Beard Foundation? Being a sucker for dumplings, this was one of the first places that I tried, and I keep coming back. The concept is cool - fusion between Chinese and Korean food (and of course western fingerprints) there is so much diversity of food and flavor. Being the dumpling fan that I am, I highly recommend all dumplings. Served in metal bowls and served at typical asian speed (super fast from order to table), these gems of deliciousness never disappoint. My favorite dumplings are probably the Garlic Shrimp dumplings. Making my way down the menu, you cannot miss the Double-Fried chicken (get the sauce on the side) the Orange-ish Chicken, or The Chicken + The Egg fried rice. Both chicken dishes are so mind blowing that you will wish you had more. Come with friends so you can try them all is my advice in this situation. Also, the side dishes are all amazing - I never leave without trying the delicious Kimchi. The only negative that I would call out is the acoustics. The place can get quite loud, and not in a pleasant, music-filled way. There are loud sounds from the kitchen, loud music and then the people trying to converse over these. Depending on when you go, these can be factors, but I quickly forget after I start crushing some dumplings.

Bulgogi tots Side of rice w furikake butter
Uyen N.

I have to say this is pretty good. I know delivering meat and sauce on tots would make it very soggy so I asked for deconstructed version hah. These tots stayed crunchy for a really long time I was very surprised. The sauce is a little cheesy, good to dip the tots. Bulgogi has more pepper than I want. Kimchi and rice are okay. The menu doesn't have a lot of options tho.

Soy Glazed Brisket
Max L.

This place is absolutely delicious. I'm there like every week. The orange chicken and the soy glazed brisket are to die for. The spicy cucumbers are great. I've tried nearly the whole menu, and I haven't found anything that I didn't like. Chiko!!!

Jajangmyeon (top) and Tteokbokki (bottom)
Isabel H.

My friend and I stopped in here for a quick weekday lunch, and were pleasantly surprised to see that this place was quite empty. I think it excels overall as a delivery place, but the inside is clean and simple, with pretty service. We decided to split the jjangmyeon and the tteokbokki, which both were great and came in large portion sizes. Both of us preferred the jjangmyeon, which was all seasoned and flavorful. The cucumbers and pickled radish added a nice contrast to the bouncy noodles and sauce. The tteokbokki was on the sweeter side, and overall not too spicy, but very enjoyable overall. I think this would be pretty accessible palette wise to those who are not familiar with Korean food or are nervous about spice. My only gripe is that I do think the prices are on the higher end for what the food is, but we definitely consider coming back here again.

Crispy Chicken Spring Rolls
Megha D.

I came here during DC's Restaurant Week and CHIKO had a great special during this time. I came on a Monday for a lunch with a friend and we were able to seat ourselves and then order at the counter very quickly. Inside, the space is small but still plenty of seating. We decided to split a couple of dishes including napa cabbage kimchi, turmeric pickled daikon, orange-ish chicken, crispy chicken spring rolls, dumplings, and the smashed salmon. Everything was so delicious!! I had never had daikon before and I loved this pickle! The spring rolls were crunchy and I loved the mustard dipping sauce it came with. The orange-ish chicken was unbelievable and the dumplings were tender. Overall, really good food and great deal!

I'm not a fan of QR code ordering but this spot had great food! I will definitely go back, next visit! Korean tater tots (in my head NO, in my belly YES) the fried rice was excellent with a soft egg on top, the fried chicken dish with the sauce, perfection in the crunch & the seasoning & THE SAUCE!!! it's a small spot & I do not think wheelchair accessible (old houses remodeled into food spots) also Proudly known & shown on the map as the best Gayborhood for eating! Drinks were just OK. Server was decent. I missed out on a noodle dish, please go for me!

Cumin lamb noodles

2nd time visiting Chiko and really enjoyed it. noddles are soft and chewy and there is a decent amount of lamb. I actually finished the noddles and realized I had left over meat. The drinks taste good too. This place is great for dine-in or carry-out out but there is limited seating inside. I would recommend and look forward to trying other items on their menu.

The egg rolls are crispy but not too oily - and they're delicious on top of that! I also had some beef and broccoli and it was super good too. The flavor was savory, strong and pure. The broccoli was crispy, the beef was moist. No thickening flavor like flour or corn starch was evident in its tasty sauce. It wasn't even too salty. Go figure! So, it's surprising that a place that looks so old and dirty can churn out such great tasting food BUT NEW DYNASTY DOES!!! I have to admit that the people at the ordering counter are pretty darn friendly too. Please do not avoid New Dynasty because of the way the outside looks. As your mama told you time and again, it is what's inside that counts. And inside New Dynasty, the food is really, really good!

We loved the magnolia blossom oolong tea. Some misses on the menu for us were the chicken wonton soup that had too subtle a flavor palette for me, veggie dumplings which had a little too strong a flavor for both of us, and the charcoal bao with custard that was overall just not to our preference. Service was super fast and friendly. We ate to our hearts' content and finished in about 45 mins of the 75 available. They have runners to bring out the food as it's prepared; no carts. Despite being a big restaurant with a lot of hard surfaces, the place never got super loud and everyone was quietly conversing. The music was also a comfortable volume for having a nice conversation over a delicious meal. 20% pre-tax service fee/gratuity is automatically added to checks regardless of party size.

Dear Yelpers, I woke up last Sunday with a craving for dim…read moresum, so I drove into DC to try this place because they offered an unlimited dim sum menu. Overall, I do not think I will be coming back here for dim sum. And they dont have the dim sum ladies that pushes the cart around. To me this place did not give me the real dim sum experience. See my review below. Food: Their unlimited dim sum selection is very tame. They do have some signature plates, but I felt it was lacking in many areas such as veggies, pastries, and other dumplings. The taste overall was just okay. I've honestly had better elsewhere, probably because it was unlimited. It didn't taste fresh, and everything was very greasy. The food came out neither hot nor warm. It was room temperature, which was disappointing. Nothing on their menu really stood out as different for me. Also, you have to ask for sauces and other condiments that are often placed on the table during dim sum service (e.g., chili oil, soy sauce, vinaigrette). Dim sum is part of my upbringing, and the food was definitely catered to Western palates, which contributed to it tasting just okay to me. Price: I believe it was $36 or $38 per person for their unlimited dim sum. We ordered a pot of tea that cost $12, which is insane to me. I do not believe the total price we paid matches the quality of food we received. Service: The service was pretty good. The staff were attentive and checked in throughout our meal. They were quick with our requests for sauces and refills of water and tea. Everyone was very nice, and they cleared finished plates pretty quickly. Ambiance: This place offers a quiet environment for dim sum. It felt light and airy, calm, and without a lot of hustle and bustle. This is very different from the kind of environment I am accustomed to when going out for dim sum. It is usually loud, and everyone is yelling over each other. That, to me, is the real dim sum experience.

We were sat down quickly since it wasnt crowded for a sunday evening. The servers were helpful with the menu. We ordered about 10 minutes into our visit. We ordered appetizers to include Taiwanese popcorn chicken, spicy wontons, and cucumber salad. We also ordered our meals, too. A beef lamen, pork soup dumplings, crab and pork soup dumplings, and I originally wanted the fried chicken curry lamen but he talked me against it due to spice level and I opted for the sake chicken, per his recommendation. The soup dumplings came out abt 15 min later at which I was told that the cucumber salad was sold out and asked if I wanted anything else. I passed since I had ordered the popcorn chicken already. My friend wasnt a fan of her pork soup dumplings and didnt finish them at all. She stated a severe lack of flavor. The crab/pork ones were a hit for the other friend. I cant eat pork nor beef, so I was still sitting and waiting for my popcorn chicken appetizer to hold me off a bit. About another 20 minutes passed then the beef lamen came out for one friend and then an order of the curry lamen. We were confused on if this was our actual order until he realized that he wrote down the wrong dish for me after I explained that he told me to get the sake chicken instead. He apoligized but by this point, I hadnt had food in roughly 6 hours, I was starving and asked to keep the wrong order, please. He refused and said he would get me the correct item because it's just in the back. Keep in mind that the spicy won tons were still missing and so was my popcorn chicken. About 10 minutes later, the spicy won tons finally made it and she enjoyed them more than her pork soup dumplings. Then the other server comes to tell me that there is more cucumber salad. Im not sure how we go from sold out to availability nearly an hour later but I still refused since I was ready for my main entree at this point. The other friend ended up ordering it instead. She said it was good. I didn't try out of frustration of how this experience was unfolding for me. My entree finally came out after another 15 or so minutes, which meant it acrually was NOT sitting in the back and ready. Im exhausted. Im starving. Ive sat here and watched my table eat while my orders were fumbled for some odd reason. The sake chicken was okay. Its really like katsu chicken with a ton of yum yum and eel sauce over a bed of rice. Best way to explain it. I probably would have enjoyed the original curry dish more. About another 10 minutes later, my popcorn chicken arrives, which beyond upset me because I asumed this order wasnt put in at this point. It had been over an hour! I gave it to my friend instead after trying one and not enjoying the flour-heavy taste. I'm not sure if this was an off night or what but I cant say that I will return just from the sheer time it took to get our orders! An hour and half was beyond ridiculous when the place wasnt even full. No one explained the delays nor came to give us updates while we were waiting, either. I gave them a star for the food being half enjoyed by some of my party and another for pricing because it really wasnt expensive, which was a plus. If you have hours to spare and dont arrive hungry, check this place out!

My husband and I are new parents and don't get out to DC for date nights anymore. Our generous friends gifted us a $250 gift card to Nobu DC so we could enjoy a special evening out. We paid for an expensive Uber into the city and ordered dinner, even adding additional items beyond the gift card amount because we were enjoying ourselves. When it came time to pay, we were told the gift card "wasn't working" and that we would need to use another form of payment. We were confused but didn't want to create a scene, so we paid the $360+ bill with our credit card. After getting home, we contacted our friend, who confirmed she purchased the gift card in person directly from Nobu DC. This was not a third-party retailer purchase. It appears to have been an activation error on the restaurant's end. We called Nobu to resolve the issue and provided proof of purchase. Instead of correcting what was clearly an internal error, we were told their gift cards are handled by a third party and that we needed to contact them ourselves. We did. The third-party representative requested detailed purchase information (what card was used to buy it, where it was purchased, etc.), which we promptly provided. He stated the issue would need to be escalated to Nobu headquarters. Our dinner was on November 22nd. It has now been months with no resolution despite weekly follow-ups. At this point: * Our friend is out $250 * We are out $360+ * Nobu has effectively been paid twice Beyond the financial aspect, it's incredibly disappointing that no one has taken ownership of what appears to be a clear activation mistake at the point of sale. Instead, the burden has fallen entirely on the customer to chase down a resolution. For a restaurant of this caliber and price point, the service recovery has been extremely underwhelming. Until this is resolved, I cannot recommend supporting a business that fails to stand behind its own gift cards.
