Chiko has really done quite a splendid job of leaving its mark as a solid fusion Asian spot in the city. The sichuan spicy vegetables (4/5) are pretty unique and the texture is quite refreshing. The cumin lamb stir fry (4.5/5) really has to be the best spin-off of a main dish that is savory and sweet and salty and absolutely delectable. It's something that leaves you lingering for more. Now the soy glazed brisket (5/5) is THE BOMB! So buttery and savory --- every bite is simply heaven. It's one of those dishes that you want to go back to for just one more bite. Once upon a time when I was a broke boy, I refused to eat at ChiKo because I felt it was too expensive. Now years later, I can comfortably afford eating here while also having a more experienced palette from eating random things all around the world. What do I think? PHENOMENAL. Quality control is not an issue here as every single dish was hot and made to the best of its ability. The cumin lamb noodles were exquisite - every strand of noodle was drenched in flavor and the lamb was extremely tender soaked in Northern Chinese spices. The dumplings were not only aesthetically pleasing, but tasted amazing too. The infamous Wagshal Chopped Brisket lived up to the hype, especially with that perfectly cooked egg. Also, shout out to that shrimp toast on the house which actually became my favorite dish!!! The beef dumplings were more flavorful and interesting than the chicken dumpling which were on the skippable side of things, but worth trying for $5. The fried rice and the orange chicken (not part of the happy hour special) we're delicious and definitely big enough to share or have leftovers. My soju happy hour cocktail was tasty and refreshing. The upstairs restaurant space is TINY and very loud. This would be a tough spot for a large group or for lots of conversation. Some of our favorite dishes are the crunchy, crunchy halfcado salad, the dumplings and springroll with the really strong and delicious house mustard and the orange-ish chicken with the candied orange rind and jalapeno. When I fought my way past crowds to get to the bathroom, the cash register, and a table, I thought dining at ChiKo would be a four-star experience, no matter how good the food was. But dining cheek-to-jowl with strangers turned out to be what made my night. By the end of the meal, I was grabbing a sample of my neighbor's Half-a-Cado Salad and comparing notes on the rest. I had traded phone numbers with the diners to my right and left! The food is really amazing here. I tried the wok-blistered green beans, which were right on the level of heat I can tolerate, but perfect when alternated with sips of rice wine and bites of steamed rice with furikake butter. I also ordered the pork and kimchi dumplings, which were the tastiest dish of the night. The "Half-a-Cado" salad didn't seem to have a lot of avocado, but I can see why people get hooked on it. It has a great texture from the nuts and crisp fruit. This is a small Chinese+Korean fusion restaurant. It has 8 tables and u might have to share a table with other people if you don't have a big group (less than 4). Coming to the food, chicken wings are a must here they were tender and the sauce on the top adds another dimension to it (don't forget to tell them to add the sauce on top). The chopped Brisket was great, it was smoky and smooth. The orange chicken is not like the regular ones you get(too sweet and thick sauce), here the chicken had a crisp and light layer on top with some greens and had a nice flavor. My friend ordered the full Monty which are 6 different kind of sides all of them are good. If you are a group of four you can share it and they are a nice pairing to the meat dishes. First 2021 Restaurant Week order went to Chiko, who I am shocked to have never tried before! This Chinese and Korean fusion is what you need in your life on a cold, wintery, pandemic-continuing Monday afternoon. The spice level is on point, and the portion sizes were the kind that leave you able to come back later for "second lunch" cravings - or next day servings. I went with some classic options I would never have otherwise thought to get, and for $22 (RW lunch pricing) it was such a steal. We also did pickup since we leave close, but I know they do have delivery services on a platform easily available. Snack: Tumeric Pickled Daikon (lovely bites, quite large in size, delicious) Side: Pork & Kimchi Potstickers (amazingly delicious) Entree: Spicy Bulgogi Stir Fry (seriously the spice on this was so perfect, and the chewy rice 'sticks' made it fun and different) My partner went with Sichuan Spicy Vegetables, Shrimp Dumplings, and the 1/2 Sichuan Hot Fried Chicken Sandwich - he reports all were delicious and he devoured the sandwich before I could judge (haha)- the dumplings may be the star of the show here, and the spicy veg had a strong front spice of chili powder (?) unclear but the heath definitely went up several notches after the first bite. Due to covid, this spot only does online order for take out! My girlfriend found this spot on instagram, and we decided to give it a shot! They are located close to Dupont Circle. We ordered the chicken spring rolls, bulgogi tots and the beef stir fry. My first impression of the food was "wow". I never had chicken spring rolls before, and the Chinese hot mustard that came with it made it the perfect appetizer. The bulgogi tots was a combo of marinated beef covered in green onions, and kimchi cheese. The stir fry was prepared with Spicy wheat flour noodles, caramelized shallots and beef. I substitute the lamb with the beef because I'm not a big lamb fan. Overall I had a great experience, and I just read that there will be a pop store in Bethesda this winter. The Chicken & The Egg Fried Rice I started out by ordering fan favorites. The chicken & egg fried rice is by far my favorite! It's flavorful and just a tad unique. That's what I keep going back to now that I've tried a couple of different entrees. I can't handle spicy food, and I'd say it's just spicy enough to make my nose run a little bit bit, but isn't painful! They add some scallions, cook with whole Chile peppers and other fresh herbs, soft chunks of confit chicken and a soft boiled egg on top! Sooo good! The portion is huge and usually last me two days! Cumin Lamb Stir Fry (Noodles) I also really like their lamb noodles. They were sold out the first time I ordered, so I knew they were special and tried them the next time! The whole wheat noodles are a great consistency - soft but not soggy. The cumin lamb is also tender and juicy and compliments the noodles really nicely. I'd say I still liked the fried rice more because the lamb is spicier to me, but it's definitely an entree worth trying if you like noodles. Pork & Kimchi Potstickers The potstickers are another MUST for me! I get them every time. They're juicy and come with a tangy sauce. Their staff are always proactive in asking your name and check to see if your food is impeccable ready. Today I ordered at 4 and was able to pick up my food by 4:15. So they were quick before the dinner rush. Quality I feel like I've been disappointed with a lot of restaurants during the pandemic because food arrives soggy or not fresh. I've never had that problem with Chiko and they've been my main pandemic staple because they consistently deliver tasty food that's fresh and good quality! This location is still fairly new, but it's worth the wait-time and visit! Food is good and the service is great. It is a smaller space and the line gets long, but it's comfortable and not overcrowded in the dining area. You order first and then get seated. As it's ready, they bring the food to you. Turmeric Pickled Daikon - good thing to have on the side especially if you get some heavier dishes. Chilled Marinated Shrimp - could do without, the "snack" came with two pieces, a little overcooked and too much sesame oil. Adult Beverages: Makkoli - canned rice wine that's pretty sweet, and if I liked rice wine I would've enjoy it more (lol duh). The Chiko G&T - refreshing and light, I'm not a huge fan of gin and tonics but the lemongrass infused basil seeds added unique flavor. We loved Chiko for it's casual atmosphere: you seat yourself, you order at the table via QR code, and the food comes out within 10 minutes. It's the ideal environment for a lunch in busy Dupont area. Food: lamb noodles really are as good as they look--wok hei for days! The mushrooms in the dish also made every other bite full of umami. But one thing you don't see often is clams in black garlic sauce. That starter was everything you would come to expect at a typical Cantonese restaurant and to offer it at a fast casual spot is so unique. Other stars were the fried chicken sandwich (duh) and dumplings. If you're a fan of spice, these dishes are right up your alley because they left a longing, tingling sensation on my tongue. 100% would come back to dine if we get the window seat again, because, well people watching is just a fun activity. We ordered the Chicken and Egg Fried Rice and 2 orders of the Double Fried Wings, a Dry Spice and a Spicy Soy Glazed. I'm a big fan of Chiko and have found them to be consistently good across their locations, from Capitol Hill to DuPont. This was my first time dining in, however, and found it to align with exactly how they market their food: fast casual and damn good. We were seamlessly ushered in, seated and pointed to order via QR, with food that came out prompt and hot. You sit and wait in anticipation as your food is prepped in an open kitchen behind the cash register. Can't go wrong with their cumin lamb stir fry, each noodle coated in an aromatic oily sauce. The crispy chicken spring rolls hold up well in delivery, but are even better from kitchen to plate to mouth when dining in. It's deceptive in that it's set up like a fast casual place, and they do whip up the to go orders fast, but the food is much higher quality than that. The name reveals the theme - Chiko for Chinese-Korean. It's a modern fusion of the two cuisines. For my order, I was satisfied with all three items: + Chicken and egg fried rice (entree) + Wok blistered green beans (appetizer) + Pork and kkmchi potstickers (appetizer) All were great. I'm one person, and these items kept me well fed through dinner and lunch the next day. The food held up well in the fridge over night, too. Stumbled across this gem today after leaving the Dupont Circle farmer's market and I was so happy with my choice to stop by for a quick lunch! I got contactless takeout from Chiko due to COVID (they're doing takeout and delivery!) on a Friday evening. No issues with social distancing--they have it set up so that you just walk up to the door to tell staff your order number, then grab it from the table they have outside. Make sure you order online ahead of time so you don't have to stand and wait. I ordered the orange-ish chicken and chilled peanut noodles. The sauce for the chicken came separately, which I appreciated--the dishes came in cardboard containers so the sauce would've made it soggy if it wasn't in its own container. It also came with a small side of white rice, which was a nice surprise! And the portions were big enough for roughly 2.5 meals. It took me ~15 minutes to get home after I picked the food up and it was still warm when I got home. The chicken was crispy and the sauce tasted amazing! Somehow, it actually tasted better when I reheated the leftovers the next day. The noodles were good but not as nutty as I was expecting.
