I have lived a few miles away from this location for almost two years and am so sad that I am only recently discovering the magic. To be honest, I came once when I first moved here and felt overwhelmed. The place was packed and the concept was new to me. I felt rushed by the impatient folks in line behind me, and wasn't able to ask as many questions as I would have liked, nor did I ask to sample anything. Therefore, even though my food was good, I didn't go back. Almost 17 months later I tried again, and boy, am I glad I did!!! When I finally came back in, there was no line. I asked loads of questions and the staff was helpful and friendly. I built a delicious, nutritious, and filling meal with a special blend of flavors unlike anything else. The best part is that my meal was less than $5! My current favorite is a bowl with half rice, half salad, the Korean beef, grilled kimchi, all the veggies, and a fried egg on top. Honestly this is a difficult review for me to write because I really do love Chi'Lantro's food, but the last three times I've order from here our meal has been incorrect every time. I have had nothing but great experiences from the downtown and South Lamar location, but this location is the one by our house. The past three times we have order from here through door dash and the order has been wrong every time. This has ranged from missing items to completely incorrect items. Now after the third time this has really started to tarnish my former love for Chi'Lantro. I've contacted them each time about this and am always told to contact Door Dash directly which doesn't make much sense since the order on the receipt is correct, it is just not being fulfilled correctly. Additionally, the menu on Door Dash is missing several toppings that typically come on the standard rice bowl. I ordered greens with tofu, kimchi, black beans, avocado, a fried egg, and tons of veggies. Don't get me wrong, not a hater and LOVE me some chilantros kimchi fries but aside from that and some rice/noodle/salad bowls not much else is offered at this location compared to the other selections offered elsewhere. The concept at this location is quick to order for your meal like a chipotle or subway pick topping style for $7-8 price point per bowl. Like the others said, there were many other dishes I would typically order but couldn't find at this location which left me disappointed because I came in having my heart set on something specific. My friends suggested Chi'lantro for lunch as they had been here before and enjoyed it. I was reluctant to try it, since I'm usually not a huge fan of Korean food. I gave in anyway and decided on the noodle bowl with marinated tofu, kimchi, spinach, cheese, cilantro, and spicy ranch. I enjoyed the noodles a lot, but did not enjoy the marinated tofu at all. I found the texture of the tofu unpleasant. Everything else I chose to go with my noodles were fine. I love that they have cilantro and it's nice that they have several sauces to choose from. I did a quick curbside pickup here recently, since it's right by the domain! Chilantro has expanded all around Austin, so everyone's got easy access to some great Korean inspired eats. It was super easy to order online, as they use a common and informative platform. The menu with item description and options for swaps/add-ons are all easy to manage on their site. I had questions about my order and they couldn't understand not one word I was saying. That is absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. How could you staff people at a popular restaurant that don't even speak the language of the country. I understand may be having one or two people within the staff that don't understand full English but your entire staff not one person understand English is appalling. The Kimchi fries hype is real. I got it with tofu and it was some of the best tofu I've had as a meal topping ever! And I'm actually fairly picky! It is such a fun and unhealthy meal - would probably not get it too often, but it was a tasty and filling lunch. Food is ordered and made cafeteria style and the line moved fast and wasn't too long, even at peak lunchtime hours. I would probably only come back for the Kimchi fries, but maybe someday I'll branch out and try something else. They definitely have flavors figured out here. One star docked for the cash-only policy, which is classist at best and accidentally racist at worst. Have been eating Chi'Lantro for 7 or 8 years now, it used to be the absolute king of my quick go-to list. Previously I've rated it 5/5 on other platforms. I hate to be negative because I have so much love for the place, but the food isn't what it used to be. Not sure what changed, but in the last 2-3 years the consistency has declined greatly. Haven't had a 5/5 meal here in a while unfortunately. My go to has always been a ribeye burrito and queso, and while the quesos pretty much the same it seems like I regularly am noticing a poor showing/serving from one or more of the ingredients inside my burrito. The weak ingredients that prompted this review were the tough/chewy rice and sparse beef. The rice didn't taste good and the toughness made the burrito a chewing match. Felt the beef was way lacking quantity wise, I've had this so many times I had certain expectations but I'll freely admit that complaint is more subjective and less of an issue than the rice. My thinking is that I just got a batch that had been sitting a while, but I ordered at 8:30PM rather than right before close. While it's been an Austin food scene staple for years, Chi'lantro is a recent find for me. I've tried the kimchi fries both times I've eaten here, and I've really liked them. I get them all the way, with soy-glazed chicken, and it's a flavor and spice explosion between the chicken, the kimchi, the cilantro and onion, and the combination of sauces on top. Just at the upper bound of my tolerance for spicy food, but it totally works. My husband has gotten the rice bowl, which he regretted after trying my kimchi fries, and this time he got his own fries but with spicy pork. He said it was delicious as is and wouldn't change a thing about how it was prepared. Next time I might ask to leave the grated cheese off mine since I couldn't taste it at all, so it was just extra calories. When no greeting came, we decided to try our hands at ordering from their menu. Having to repeat ourselves over the music, and to an employee who seemed pissed about working there, got old quick. The food is piled into bins so we thought anything they served from the top was bound to be ice cold (sure enough it was). The fries under my bulgogi were the only things we ate that were hot and that's only because they were dropped when I ordered them. None of the good was wow-worthy, or worth putting up with the employee's attitudes or the mediocre food. The "no cash" policy seems like a good way to isolate a particular demographic. Seems very elitist to me, and quite frankly annoying, not "hip". Overall, I won't return, nor can I recommend in good conscience. read more

First time here. I ordered a BBQ steak with noodles and white rice. This was a lot of food , with nice flavors. There was a little gristle in the beef, I would go with chicken next time. I really did not know exactly what I was selecting for my bowl, I just went for the low heat versions, and there was still plenty of sass. I'm not the biggest fan of this location's setup. It is an assembly line style like Chipotle. I prefer a typical order/sit down delivery style like the one on Burnet. However, the assembly style has its pros/cons. Pro, being you can customize your tacos and bowls. Con, being the original preset menu items found at other locations generally tend to not be as good here and more prone to inconsistency. I've gotten Kimchi Fries multiple times here. Most times it's good. But, sometimes, they tend to skimp a bit and give less portion than the normal one on Burnet. Sadly, this location does not offer the Chilantro burger, which is one of my favorites. However, it does offer some good things not at other locations, such as the Noodle Bowl. The Noodle Bowl is delicious! Kimchi Fries are an absolute must. And Korean tacos you can never go wrong with. read more

CHI'LANTRO! What is Chi'Lantro you ask? It's like a korean/asian fusion Chipotle! You can make your own bowl, choose your starch/protein, veggies/etc. or you can make your own basket of loaded fries! My family were being all healthy so they got different types of rice bowls. One bowl consisted of brown rice, soy glazed chicken, Kimchee and lettuce. One bowl had beef & soy glazed chicken, brown rice and avocado. Last bowl had soy glazed chicken, white rice, lettuce and beans. I had to be the only person that got their #1 seller Chi'Lantro loaded Kimchee fries with soy glazed chicken and all the toppings! (Kimchee, onion, cilantro, sriracha, cheese and more) not gonna lie- my fries were preeeeetty spicy! Everything was good. Including their fountain drinks. My favorite has to be the cream soda! My husband tried their hibiscus drink as well as their pineapple soda. They were all pretty good. Downfall of our experience was that my Father in law chose beef as his protein, and he said it was super oily and waaay too overcooked. Tasted like it's been sitting around. The meat was extremely crumbly. We felt bad so we gave him some of our soy glazed chicken. The chicken was really good! Super flavorful and juicy. Not dry at all. It's been a hot minute since I have been to Chi'Lantro so this has changed a bit from the last time I have been here. It is more of chipotle style restaurant now where you go order your bowl/burrito/etc and customize to your choice. When I came a few years ago it was an actual menu (weird) I got a bowl with the spicy chicken and all the sides etc. I got some spicy ranch and their magic sauce (or whatever they call it). Delicious, flavorful, the second batch of kim chi was better than the first so a fan there. Overall really good, kinda tripped me out that the menu changed but I also get why it made the process really quick and easy. The food was good that is the most important piece.
