A friend picked up Chi'Lantros for us and I was so excited to eat. But I was so disappointed by what I got. I got a burrito with the beef protein. The rice was old/so hard. So much so that it hurt my teeth while trying to eat the burrito. Also, they barely gave me any beef. Literally gave me MAYBE 5 small pieces. Kills me that I paid extra for the beef protein. What pissed me off even more was that the guy who prepared it put all 5 pieces at the end of the burrito. Literally, my last 2 bites had meat. So...... I basically ate a veggie burrito. Price point is a little too high for my liking, and this place is effectively a glorified Chipotle. I can appreciate what the owners were doing when they tried to create a healthier spinoff, but what they gained in nutrients, they lost in flavor. Mexican and Korean cuisine may not sound like a good combination... until you've have Chi'Lantro. I am personally a huge fan of the bulgolgi burgers here. A lot of burger joints around Austin are more of the same, but Chi'Lantro has something new to offer with their unique spin on the classic burger. I love the sauce and the egg that come with the burger, and the fact that they also have loaded kimchi fries. You order at the counter (pick your base, add a protein, add a sauce, add anything else), take a number, they prepare your order and deliver it to your table. What I was disappointed with: The person at the till, taking orders was not familiar with the ingredients in their products, particularly the sauces; I finally learned they put sugar in most of their sauces--makes me wonder what other ingredients are in their dishes that many in Austin would not appreciate; with all of the extras, these bowls or salads get pretty pricey; the concept marketing talks about an introduction to a great Korean BBQ experience which it is not. It may be Korean-inspired but not close to authentic. I would return perhaps but this is not a four star experience. This is a really awesome concept. Living in Reno, I wish we had more fast casually accessible Asian restaurants. And I do love that this one has its own flair. The menu selection was great, with some classic Korean flavors mixed with some Mexican fusion. I got the spicy pork and it was sweet spicy and crispy. I would skip the esquites though and you don't really get to enjoy their full flavor when everything is mixed together. The magic sauce lives up to its name adding the perfect amount of spice and creaminess to the bowl. This location was particularly convenient with parking directly outside the restaurant and reserved for this shopping center only. The restarting did have a faint smell lingering that we couldn't quote out our finger on and the service was extremely slow. The workers were in the younger age range and they seemed to be more interested in each other's lives that providing us with a fast and efficient service. Saw this place on Shark Tank a few years ago and finally had the chance to try it...and I'm glad I did! The vibe inside the restaurant is very new and clean. Easy menu to navigate. The only reason I gave this place a 4 and not a 5 is because all of their meat, while advertised as spicy, is a bit on the sweet side. But I think that's just how Korean BBQ is so not a big problem.
