I decided to check this place out beca I'm always in the area. it was a Saturday night at 8:30, 30 minutes before closing so I figured I would get a quick bite to eat and not hold up staff camping out at the establishment. The staff was very friendly, place was clean, and I was the only one getting ready to eat and there was just a guy at the bar, now I did suspect that the place was not very good being on a Saturday night, should have some people in the place, but not!! Well I ordered a chicken soup and a chimichanga. The food came out in a reasonable time, and I received the soup 1st, which right away I seen frozen green beans , carrots, and green peas that were wrinkled from being frozen. the children was super rubbery. I was going to hand it right back to the server, but decided to be kind and just take the 10 dollar soup and feed it to my dog. The chimichanga did not really have that much flavor, but at least it was made fresh., the rice that was served with it was undercooked and not pleasant to eat. the refried beans were actually cold. This small jewel for authentic Mexican food is next to a shopping center, small place but big flavors. You new favorite might be waiting inside. Personally a love tacos and mostly it is what I tried when I go to a Mexican restaurant labeled authentic. From quesadillas, fajitas, burritos, and ample selection of recipes. Small bar with mix drinks like micheladas and Mexican beer also to accompany with your meal. The appetizer I got was choriqueso but for my personal taste I like it more plentiful in the cheese side but it was good. Salsa and chips keep you munching until your main course make it to your table. I got a selection of 5 different loaded tacos with onion, cilantro and the option of two salsas for your taste. I just had a quick lunch and was most impressed. The owner was very friendly and took good care of me. Fresh chips and salsa with a cold draft beer followed by chicken burritos. The burritos were really good and I was pleased with the spicy salsa, salsa verde and sour cream that came along with it. The menu is quite limited but still had good variety; I prefer this over those huge menus that seem endless. The space is bright and has a nice feel to it and was immaculately clean. I was reading the reviews and recommended it to my young daughter and her boyfriend... She texted me only minutes after being there and said what a mistake it was... The food they ordered was extremely small portions and "" seem like everything was out of a can or a box... They could've made better at home is what they both said not to mention it was $30 plus the tip. They both work in high-end restaurants and know what the quality of the food should be. Not to mention when they were getting ready to leave the place got crowded and they had to wait an additional 15 to 20 minutes before they even got that check. Food was great but there sweet tea taste very watered down, staff is very nice and constantly checking on you. My problem is the cook, they wore there mask under there chin and not above there nose. Usually I could care less but there the cook. Your BREATHING on the food. They also wore no gloves when touching dough for a soft taco I think. They made the guacamole fresh to order and the sauces were put on the table. No little cups of sour cream where you get charged $1. You can have as much as you want!!! Very good Mexican food, not the traditional Mexican restaurant, which we don't care for. This is a higher quality & we enjoyed everything we ordered. The chile rellenos were huge, the chicken was my favorite. My husband ordered shredded beef chimichanga & he said it was delicious. My son ordered the ground beef burritos & he said his was delicious. We liked that all of our orders were topped with the cheese dip & rancheros sauce. We would've liked a little more seasoning on the ground beef & chicken, but it was all so good that we'll definitely go back! We really liked all of the salsas & that they bring them & sour cream to table with your meal. We are happy to find a good Mexican place closer to us, our other favorite is Luna but it's in Murrells Inlet, more than twice as far of a drive. Yay Chile Frito!! read more

As soon as you walk into Chili Frito you're greeted with a large B&W photo of a man with distinctive eyes and a warm smile. You see immediately he looks to make your time with him the best it could be. You see the same look in his son, the owner of Chili Frito. As I sat there I saw him genuinely greet and thank everyone for visiting his restaurant. There's a wide selection to choose from, appetizers to entrees to desserts. I went with the Chili's Shredded Chicken Burrito, delicious. The salsa and chips came first which is homemade. You get three choices from mild to hot. When your meal comes the first thing you notice is everything is fresh and homemade, that carried through as I cut into the burrito. The meal was a good sized portion and delicious. When I saw Flan on the menu I knew it must be homemade, I was right. Again it was a good sized portion and the best I've had since I've been down here. In fact I can't think of a Mexican restaurant on the Grand Strand that is better than Chili Frito. Although it's off the beaten path it's well worth the short drive to get there, I drove from North Myrtle and will definitely go there again. read more

Located in a strip mall you feel the need to keep walking but don't miss out on this culinary experience. This amazing Mexican restaurant has all the typical dishes and some lesser known one as well. Everything is authentic and as healthy as possible (great local ingredients) as this is NOT a chain restaurant. Also, we love the music which fits the latin atmosphere. We visited Chile Frito while on vacation. We were greeted by a friendly owner and waitstaff upon arrival. The chips and salsa were good, as was the cheese dip. My daughter ordered a basic quesadilla and rice and was pleased with her meal. My son ordered the skirt steak (med rare), but it came out on the sizzling hot plate and was over cooked and had a bitter char taste. Ate a few bites, but was difficult to cut and eat due to the overwhelming charred flavor. I had the enchiladas, which were decent.
