I am honestly shocked by how authentic their Sichuan and Chongqing dishes are. I had the intestines dry pot and asked them to add potatoes inside and they did. I also had one of the bullfrog dishes. The dishes were all so flavorful and they use a generous amount of fresh peppercorn which gives it a strong spicy and numbing flavor. A lot of restaurants who claim to have authentic Sichuan cuisine don't know how to achieve this strong numbing flavor, but this restaurant does it perfectly. Solid spicy food with a kick that I'm certainly interested in coming back for, though their service could certainly use some work. Came by this spot for a small dinner with friends on a weekday evening and the place wasn't too busy, so I hope it's better during peak hours. Plenty of chili peppers abound at every table though! QR code menus bring up an online link to their website, but the menu is a bit overwhelming and the online ordering system seems to be for takeout. Wow. Spice till you drop. Mala me to the ground. If you like spicy food, this place is IT. Hands down, my go-to spot for outings with friends or family. FOOD Dishes here are huge in portion. Cost basis is pretty decent considering how much food there are. The Chong Qing Chicken we ordered was spicy yet tasty. The chicken was fried to perfection and is not too dry. The chilis and Szechuan pepper corn pairing was perfect. Chicken and spice were balanced perfectly. We also ordered the Spicy Fish Fillet and they struck gold again. It honestly is as close as a dish from China as you can get. The lamb stew was pretty good as well. It's cooked with pickled veggies so it's a bit sour but it honestly is the perfect dish for a cold day. SERVICE The service was pretty decent. The host and waiter were very prompt. My friends and I hung out and chatted for couple of hours (they weren't busy at all) and they didn't even prompt us to leave at all. Very thankful for that. Saw that they have the spicy whole roasted fish and decided to come and try it. Came here for dinner and was seated promptly. Ordered the Chongqing Spicy Roast Fish, hot and spicy beef combination, and 2 bowls of rice and it was plenty of food. The roast fish usually is 1 bigger fish, but I guess they only had smaller fish, so we had 2 in the pot. The fish itself lacks a little bit of salt, but the seasoning for the rest of the items were on point - numbing and a little spicy. The roast fish dish had cauliflower, flat noodles, tofu skin, peanut, bamboo, and green onions, which was great to get some greens in. It was a lot of fish for 2 people, as we were only able to finish one fish. The hot and spicy beef was amazing, it was the best I've ever had! I'm not sure what's in it, but it was intense (spicy and numbing) and full of flavor. It had the right amount of salt in it to bring together all of the flavor. This was the star indeed! Chili garden is the equivalent to heaven on Earth for spicy ma-la enthusiasts. When you come here, you're coming for Szechuan style cooking, infused with ma-la chilis to give you a kick of spicy and numbing feel to your taste buds. Be prepared to have a very sweaty meal! The restaurant is located in the Milpitas square near the far left side of the plaza. Parking is plentiful even on busy nights and the restaurant is open until midnight for the late diners. We came with a patty of 6 and ordered two orders of chongqing chicken, eggplant in spicy sauce, twice cooked pork, deep fried battered fish, honey walnut shrimp, and a combination fried rice. The eggplant was cooked perfectly with spicy sauce. It seemed like they prepared the eggplant by deep frying not to keep the skin intact, but the spicy sauce made the eggplant inner very tender. The eggplant was probably our favorite thing tonight. Everything else that we ordered was a bit lackluster however. The chongqing chicken is typically my go to at chili garden. It was prepared tonight with too much numbing chili peppers. You couldn't taste anything besides the numbing chili peppers. Usually, the taste of chicken is complimented with the spicy and numbing taste, but the numbing feeling was a bit too overwhelming. The deep fried fish was prepared the same way and was heavily coated with the numbing chili pepper. However, the fish was very crispy which was it's redeeming factor. The twice cooked pork wasn't spicy enough and was a bit bland. My gf mentioned that it's typically cooked more and had a tougher bite behind it, so we're a bit disappointed that it wasn't up to her expectation. The honey walnut shrimp and fried rice was alright. The service tonight was also okay. Our food arrived super fast and we got everything we needed. However, we never got refills on tea or iced water; which is a bit essential for a place like this. Overall, I'd say this place deserved 4/5 stars for tonight. It's one of the places that conveniently opens late and has a very large menu for you to try. If it weren't for the overly ma chili spiced bomb on the chicken and other dishes, and lack of check up on us during dinner service; this place could have gotten 5/5 stars. Food: string beans are marinated and tastes very delicious with its crunchy exterior and dry sauce that included dry red pepper and black beans and Sichuan peppercorn. We also had lamb chop with Cumin flavor. We thought it would be lamp chop in the traditional sense. Maybe there is lost in translation here. The lamp ribs were chopped into bite size and cooke with onions and cumin sauce plus hot oil. It's not spicy hot and cooked just right. In the old place a few doors up, these dishes tastes similar, so I guess the chef moved to the new location also. Our usual favorites that we had in the old location includes, beef stew, chili chicken wings, Sichuan peppercorn fish pot, pork intestines, and a lot more. Ordered mapo tofu, but didn't realize it would be that spicy mala tongue-numbing mapo tofu. I suppose I'm pretty Americanized in this sense, but if you prefer to have the gravy style mapo tofu, then this place probably isn't for you. I'd love to try new dishes each time, but the chicken stays, the chicken stays. I really like this place, probably because it is family style, and I really like family style dishes, it makes me feel like I'm eating with family, but I'm not. It's the feeling to me that makes me feel good, hehe. Anyways, there are tons of food options in this plaza, so you can always get desserts, boba and even grocery shop before or after your meal! Came in today around 4:30 PM to get dry pot. We ordered two, but one of our orders was made incorrectly and we were given malatang instead. We explained that it was the wrong order and asked if we could get it remade since the malatang soup had already soaked into the meat and vegetables we picked. At first, one of the staff members refused, which was frustrating since the mistake was on their side. Eventually they agreed to remake it and let us pick again. However, the new pot came out with the exact same ingredients as the original order, not the new ones we selected. When we asked about it, a staff member said he would check with the kitchen but never came back. The staff member who originally took my girlfriend's order was also very rude and gave us attitude, calling another employee to deal with the situation instead. Overall, the service was very disappointing and unprofessional. We actually really like the dry pot here and come often, which is why this experience was especially disappointing. read more

But I have to say, the food is good, just on the expensive side. Restroom is ok, but food taste is exceptionally good. Spicy beef and chicken are just amazing. The rice is actually 2 bowls into one. I think one is enough for 2. They are generous for rice. But I still think the beef we ordered is just expensive, $27 a pop is just out of my limit especially for that portion. Busy on a weekend evening! Chili garden is in a large plaza with a 99 ranch and countless other restaurants, but still stands out. Our server was friendly, patient, and helped us with many recommendations despite waiting on other tables in the full restaurant. He was a bit surprised when we requested all our dishes to be mild (and rightfully so, given that we had chosen a sichuan restaurant), but still very accommodating. Our favorites were the pea sprouts, 蒜泥白肉(a ma-la spicy pork belly dish that they somehow were able to make pretty mild upon my family's request), 酸菜鱼 which came in a huge bowl the size of a pot, and also a fried milk dessert on the house. The interior was clean and though the place wasn't huge, it holds a good number of tables so wait times likely are never too long. read more

Every dish we've ever tried here which we always try to have one new dish every visit has been very outstanding I would give every dish a five out of five stars. Their customer service is also very good they make sure the guest are very pleased. My family is very diverse and eating different types of culture food but this Asian restaurant is definitely on the top list. I had the pleasure of bringing my brother and my nephew to eat with us at dinner and both of them have enjoyed their meal very much. One of the best places to get spicy schezwan food, the food is very tasty, with tingling schezwan peppers, and not too oily. We have been going there for years. The new location is nice, just moved a few stores down. The Chongquin chicken is a must then water boiled fish in spicy sauce (I requested them to not add the dried red pepper on top and they did without loosing any taste). The veggie options with Spicy tofu, family-style tofu and shredded potatoes with chili were also very good. The portions are quite large, and good to share. One of the best Szechuan spots in the bay hands down. I frequent this spot probably once every other week. We love the Chong qing chicken wings and Chong qing fried fish fillet. These two dishes are a staple for every visit. Food comes out super fast and staff is attentive which you don't get very often for an Asian place. Don't trust their hours listed on Yelp though. It says they're open until midnight but that doesn't apply for dine in. If they don't have a lot of customers they will only let you take out. My friends and I went to chili garden for dinner on a Friday evening. The at one end of a huge plaza with plenty of parking. For dishes, we ordered the twice cooked pork, honey walnut shrimp, eggplant in spicy sauce, chongqing chicken, and deep fried battered fish. My mom was a regular here pre-covid since it is close to the office so I knew this place had issues with consistency in their food. The twice cooked pork was more like once cooked pork. It just didnt have the texture or flavor of being cooked twice. Although it was still good in terms of the texture, the dish lacked any sort of flavor. It ended up being too bland to enjoy with the fresh vegetables providing the most flavor. The honey walnut shrimp was pretty classic. The shrimp is battered and deep fried. The honey walnut shrimp tasted good and it's the classic honey mayo sauce on top. The spicy eggplant was really good this time around. The eggplant is fried first so the skin keeps texture and the meat of the eggplant is nice as soft. They did well with preparing the eggplant beforehand so it had none of the bitterness that would be found in bad preparation. The sauce was delicious with plenty of flavor and nicely balanced. The chongqing chicken. I'm usually a fan of this dish at most szechuan restaurants. This was not it. When biting into the first chicken, I noticed only the numbing flavor. I could not even taste any spiciness from the dried chilis cooked into the oil. No matter how much I tried to taste any other flavors, it ended up being lost hope. The deep fried battered fish tasted just like the chongqing chicken. Unfortunately the seasoning is not there. However I was a bigger fan of this dish than the chongqing chicken. The batter was really crispy and thick. The pieces of fish fillet were also pretty big and thankfully spared from the oversaturated numbing flavor thanks to the batter. The fish fillet paired well with the crunchiness of the batter. A side of sauce would've been delicious with this dish. Overall I gave this place a 3/5. At least 2 dishes I remember being good was not doing it for me this time around. The service is pretty average of a chinese restaurant. Expect to flag someone over yourself for refills on water and tea. Sometimes the food here is amazing across the board, but this time was not it.
