I never tried this place before so I came in after lunch and got the Spicy Dan Dan Noodles. When it came out, I was kind of surprised because the meat came out as a chunk, even though it's grounded. It looked kind of odd, like it's been sitting for a long time and I saw something that kind of looked like solid grease. It was still decent after I smooshed the meat and broke it apart with a spoon but seeing the meat like that kind of lowered my appetite. I only been to the Fremont location in the past during a late night outing, but I remember I really liked the chow mein and fried rice. So I suggested this place to my friends as it was getting late for dinner. We all ordered a noodle dish since it was called Special Noodles. We got the Minced Pork Noodles, Spicy Lamb Noodles, and String Beans Veggie Noodles. Service was fine. We were seated quickly and you order yourself using the QR code. We each submitted our order and food took like 10 mins to come out. It was hot and fresh. I liked that we can customize like no spicy, less oil, etc. Other than that, it's a no frills place for noodles and dumplings. Since it was lunch time during the weekend before Chinese New Year, the parking lot was extremely crowded. The decor is kind of cute and the restaurant is rather spacious. My friend and I ordered the "must have" Pork Soup Pan Fried Buns. We also got an order of Pork Steamed Soup Dumplings and their Combination Chow Mein. Food quality was really consistent, the Soup Pan Fried Buns were excellent as always. The bottom of the buns was perfectly crispy and crunchy while the top of the buns was very thin and soft. The inside of the buns was filled with well seasoned fillings and juices. The Pork Steamed Soup Dumplings were also really good. The skin was nice and thin while the inside was juicy and tasty. Been going to this restaurant a couple times and the food is delicious every time! If you go during the weekday, there are lots of open tables around dinner time, but weekends expect a wait. Our group of 6 has had to wait 20-30 minutes before, but service and food is worth it! Always cutely decorated with the seasons and clean interior. Our servers are super nice and friendly and checked in on us often. When a pair of chopsticks rolled off the table, they were there with a fresh pair before we even said anything! The skin was thin and when you bite it, the soup just burst into your mouth (it could be hot so be careful!) The soup was light and had a hint of crab. The meat inside was well seasoned too. I was a bit disappointed at the beef stone noodle soup though. The proportions of soup, beef and noodles were quite off. When it was served, we could only see a large pot of soup. We had to dig out the beef and noodles using a spoon, yet there was just not enough beef and other ingredients. There was a single piece of meatball, tofu, fishball, and a few slices of cucumber and beef. Nevertheless, the soup itself was tasty and nicely seasoned. I found this place through Instagram and wanted to try it out. Luckily for me, Special Noodle is in the Milpitas Plaza so parking is pretty good. Overall, it lived up to the hype. I went with my family and we loved the crispy buns and lamb flat noodles. It was flavorful and a bit spicy. For the buns, the crunch with the soup and meat was so satisfying. I'd give the food an 8/10, mostly because I'm not great with spicy food but so worth it. The price isn't bad but it can add up depending on what you order. The soup dumplings are delicious but aren't the most filling so we ended up ordering 3 more to actually be full. (This was for 4 people) The service was friendly and helpful. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that a lot of the plates were chipped or cracked, which isn't great for my parents. I'm not a fan of restaurants where it's so loud you can't hear your companions talk, but let's get to the food. We ordered Soup Pan Fried Buns, which was the favorite dish of the day. The bottoms were nicely brown and the steamy filling was soupy. We tried their salt & pepper chicken and salt and pepper ribs. I had high hopes for those two, but they were not like the Cantonese versions I love. There were spices that I'm not used to eating a lot of, maybe cumin? The coloring had an orange hue. First time trying stone pot noodles! The flavor of the soup was so unique, unlike anything I've ever had before, and it was absolutely delicious. I was curious how the numbing spice would pair with the beef stone pot soup, but it completely exceeded my expectations. A must-try side dish is the pan-fried soup dumplings. The bottom of the dumpling was perfectly crispy and added such a satisfying texture. I'm officially choosing these over regular soup dumplings from now on. Both of these dishes are definitely worth trying. The portions were perfect for two people, and we left feeling really full and satisfied. The first time I saw this restaurant is actually the one by Fremont. Didn't know they have a location at Milpitas. Anyways, it was a busy Saturday night, the plaza it is in is full so it's hard to find parking. Entering the restaurant, we're able to be seated right away as it's moderately busy. To get the menu, you need to scan the QR code that is placed by the table. My friend and I ordered combination chowmein, spicy beef, and Dan Dan noodles. To all the food we ordered, the one I like the most would be the spicy beef. For someone who loves to eat spicy, it's good as it hits my spice level and it lingers. I told my friend that after eating the spicy beef first, the dan dan noodles is nothing compared to it based on the spicy level. I made a comparison with all 3 dishes that we have that the combination chowmein + spicy beef is basically the dan dan noodles lol. The spicy beef is so tender and flavorful. The combination chowmein tasted good too and the meat that it has is also very tender. The chicken meat that it has is thin and soft so it's easier to eat compared to other combination chowmein. The waitress gave us a tablet and we took our sweet time scrolling, exploring, and clicking. When we committed, she taped a slip of confirmed dishes on the table and brought utensils. It's really more relaxing and efficient than the "traditional" in-person way. There's, of course, no conversations such as "what do you recommend...." The dishes were all delicious. We liked the rice-noodle clam soup. It was laced with prickly pepper to produce the numbing sensation (not spicy hot). This is very SiChuan. We othered other dishes non-spicy and they were rich in flavors and also showed good and fresh ingredients. I was actually surprised at the cooking quality as its deco was more bar-like. We order a variety dishes: the cucumber salad which was light and refreshing on a hot summer day. Two different types of soups that were clean and refreshing ironically for a hot soup . The coconut dessert balls were crunchy and delightful . The green onion pancake was super crispy not too oily and just flavored right. I didn't help myself to the green onion pancake beef roll but my best friend who had it said it was absolutely superb. We ordered the soup dumplings, cucumbers, combination chow mein (beef, chicken, and shrimp), potstickers, green beans, and eggplant. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time, but unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. Each of us was given just one thin napkin, and it took over 20 minutes to get a second round of water -- and that only happened after our server finally checked in with us. As for the food, it was average at best. The standout dish was the green beans and eggplant -- flavorful and well-prepared. Everything else was just okay. The chili oil was especially disappointing: no crunch at all, just oil with barely any chili. We asked the server if we could try a different batch, thinking maybe it was just the bottom of the container, but he dismissed the request and said, "All our chili oil is the same, it wouldn't make a difference." He did bring Thai chilies, which helped with heat, but if you love chili oil, you know it's more about texture and flavor than just spice. To top it off, our combination chow mein came with only one shrimp, which was surprising and disappointing considering the dish's name and price. Overall, I'm not in a rush to come back. We went here pretty late around 9 PM after a long day hiking. They informed us that they would close at 9:50 PM sharp so we had to order and eat quickly. Looking around I saw that there were a ton of locals there which I knew was a great sign! We ordered some pork dumplings, chicken lo mein, lamb cumin, a lamb noodle dish, and a fried dumpling. All of these items were ordered using a QR code on the phone so it was easy and efficient. When the food came in we were in heaven. Every dish was nearly a 10/10. Some of the best dumplings I've ever had were here. The lamb noodle dish was also to die for, especially due to the perfect texture of noodle. There was also chili oil, chili crunch, vinegar and soy sauce at every table. On food alone I would give this place a 5 stars but i have to deduct a star because the sauces provided at the table were extremely sticky. I'm not sure the last time they were cleaned. The Braised Pork Ribs were tender but on the salty side. The Stuffed Fish Balls and their Signature Pork Soup Pan Fried Buns were deceiving. They don't look anything like the pictures on the menu. The stuffed fish balls were smaller than the picture and the pork soup pan fried buns were kind of sad looking. Both dishes tasted fine, but we weren't overly impressed. As one of their signature dishes they pride themselves with, it was overrated and undervalued. The best dish that we had were the snowflake potstickers. The potstickers were crispy on the outside and the fillings were tasty. After we dined here, we were very thirsty for the rest of the day. The service was lacking. There were hardly any interactions between us and the servers other than the servers bringing the food to our table...and one of the servers stood right next to me to make sure I leave him a decent tip him on their payment device. The Pan Fried Dumplings here are among the best we have tried- full of juicy goodness and served PIPING HOT! Beware! lol We love the food here as it is a more accessible and inexpensive, yet pleasant alternative to the big name fancy dumpling places elsewhere. A couple of years ago, this place was called "Yummy Yummy Bao", but they just changed the name of the restaurant, yet retaining what seems to be the same exact menu items. A couple of items (like the salt & pepper ribs) lacked...salt...and flavor? And I can't put a finger on it, but some dishes like the wonton soup and the salt and pepper ribs also lacked flavor, on top of lacking salt. We were very disappointed as we had been to another location earlier this year and enjoyed it. I don't know what the difference was, perhaps different chefs at this different locations? If I had one thing that wasn't ideal, the dumplings and pot stickers were a little oily inside.
