    Chicken Soup w.Choy Sum
    Shih Fa K.

Ordered the Chicken w.Dried Mushrooms Clay Pot Rice, Chicken Soup w.Choy Sum, and the America Ginseng Stewed w. Black Chicken. The chicken with dried mushroom clay pot rice was well-done and the dish had its signature crispy rice at the bottom. The chicken soup with choy sum was a nice flavorful broth with a good amount of vegetables and chicken. The American ginseng stewed with black chicken also tasted good. The service was fast and responsive, but is good to note that this place no longer takes credit cards for dining in. The ambiance was simple and a bit bare.

The Rice House is one of my dad's favorite restaurants. There hasn't been many clay pot places so he often comes whenever he's craving it. He loves their beef chow fun as well so we often get it. His go-to is the pork ribs in black bean sauce clay pot rice and my mom likes the preserved meat clay pot rice. For soups, we usually get the Sea Coconut & Pear Stewed with Pork and watercress stewed with dried duck gizzard. I usually like drinking the soups because I love Chinese clear soups and they taste really light. I rank this place a 3/5 because everything is pretty oily in my opinion even the soups. I always notice the layer of oil in the soups and then it's very obvious for the rice and noodles as well. The rice is somewhat understandable because it helps with crisping up the rice for the hard crunchy bits but the beef chow fun is so oily that it coats my lips. Like many other reviews, you have to watch out for the many tiny bones especially in the soups and in the rice pots. Overall, still decent food but wish it was less oily. The old pictures I had on here were from the when the restaurant was owned by previous management/ owner. The food now is contained in paper material bowls!

A counter-service restaurant serving claypot-style rice in paper bowls (weird) We had a half-and-half rice bowl with roasted duck and Chinese sausage. We also ordered the mushroom chicken. Overall the meats were delicious but it's too much rice compared to the meats. Also there's no wok hei due to not serving it in clay pot. The packet sauce and their house chilies were good.

    Mushroom and chicken "claypot"...

Lies. You walk up after seeing pictures of claypot rice on their menu posted on the window and expect a claypot served, but no. It's in a paper takeout container. After ordering at the counter (this place is totally self serve), we take a seat and pour our own water. When our "claypots" arrived, we were startled to see it in the paper bowls. The guy explained they are prohibited from serving it in a claypot as it is a cooking instrument and cited FDA regulation. Not believing it was a federal regulation, I asked if it was a Milpitas regulation and he confirmed, but I still don't believe him. Considering that the Chinese restaurant in the Ranch 99 Plaza next door serves their entrees on sizzling iron platters and the Korean restaurant at McCarthy serves their Bibimbap in Dol Sot (that hot stone bowl), it is a lie. The bowl itself was decent, even though it lacks enough scorched rice that is softened by this format. It is a disappointing experience as a result and I will not revisit. I feel the decision to serve it this way and the self service is a finance decision, which is detrimental to customer experience resulting in lower sales leading right back to finance. Place is clean at least.

This is a counter service restuarant that serves claypot styled rice bowls in plastic bowls whether you eat in store or not. I would recommend ordering online beforehand. I got a half and half rice with chicken and pork ribs. Their meats had good flavor but the meat to rice ratio is like 85% rice so I had about half of the rice left over when I was done. Although it's claypot rice, I'm not sure if this bowl of mostly plain white rice is worth the $18.50 price personally. They have plenty of tables for seating but it seems like most people just order online to go and those to do dine in store are mostly parties of 1. Overall, this could be a decent option for a group looking for a casual meal. There's also some outdoor seating in the plaza.

Go here for claypot rice! I recommend getting the half and half preserved meat and pork ribs. The rice is toasted and has a nice crunch, and the soy sauce and spicy sauce is delicious.

The rice house is a claypot rice restaurant but they don't actually give u a clay pit they only cook it and serve it in plastic to go bowls. Lots of ppl just order online and get delivery as not many ppl typically dine in. But if you do dine in, there's plenty of seating and lots of room with DIY water and stuff. Order and pay first st the register Overall food was okay, definitely needed to eat it with their sauce packet. Would recommend their half and half to try different things out.

DoorDash order, so only comment on the food this time. The soup is delicious and good portion. Totally the traditional canton style soup. The rice dish is the issue. Both the spare ribs and chicken clay pot rice have broken bones. Be careful when you chew on the food.

!!!CASH ONLY OR VENMO ONLY!!! It quite embarrassed us to download Venmo and pay the bills. And finally we have to Zelle the restaurant. Arrived around 7 PM and it takes a solid half hour before we got the food served. I think they're quite busy with takeout orders. There are roughly 10 tables inside and almost nothing is served. Indeed, I don't think they charged with tips. And it's quite noisy as it's closed to the kitchen. Food is actually tasty and very authentic flavor either the clay pot rice or the chicken with dried mushrooms. Chicken is very good and tender. Many customers are Cantonese speakers 街坊 so you can trust their food quality. I will deduct one star on the service: I think the waitress speaks Cantonese and talk to other customers in Cantonese. Obviously I can understand. But, when we order using Mandarin, she immediately switched to English and left us feeling awkward.

Preserved Meat and Roast Duck Clay Pot Rice

Let's cut to the chase. The only two meats worth getting are the preserved meat and the pork ribs, in that order. The beef and duck were just disappointing. Rice was nice and crispy on the bottom, so I will give them that. But what's with the two broccoli? They literally put exactly two pieces of broccoli in each bowl... for color? I found that strange. All in all, if you're specifically craving Chinese preserved sausage then by all means order a bowl of that. However you can easily buy a clay pot, the meat, and just steam your own bowl at home.

I came here with high hopes and expectations that this could be my next go-to comfort food restaurant. Sadly, I was a bit disappointed and will not be coming back. Customer Service The service was great overall considering there was only one employee managing the front cashier area and serving all of the tables with their orders. Food I ordered the following two items: #1: Preserved Meat Clay Pot Rice - $11.99 #11: Any 2 Selective Rice (Half & Half) - $14.99 It was a bit odd that only 2 pieces of broccoli were provided for each dish? The Chinese sausages were nicely marinated and cooked, but felt like something I can easily make at home? The rice for both of the dishes was a bit too crunchy for my liking. Hence, it did take about 25 minutes from placing the to go order for it to be ready. Each of the dishes can easily be shared amongst two people, if you're not super hungry and are okay with small portions of protein. They only accept cash or Venmo; be prepared for either of the two payment methods. Ambiance Open with lots of seating and waiting area for to go orders.

Pork Ribs in Black Bean Sauce Clay Pot Rice (takeout version)
    April Y.

At first glance at my takeout order, it looked a little plain. Once mixed though, it reveals the "rice crust" from the clay pot. Phew! I was reeeally worried but crisis averted! After trying this place a couple times, I think my top order is just the Black Bean Pork Spareribs Claypot. We tried a few others but it was "just ok". This time around, we just ordered 2 takeout orders for the fam, and it sufficiently fed the 4 of us. We were full and satisfied. Wouldn't say it was mind-blowing but it's the better of claypot rice options in the South Bay. Overall, I'd really give this 3.5 stars but rounded up because it's the best option I've found so far.

The flavor is comforting and well-balanced without being overly salty, and the texture is smooth and satisfying. I highly recommend pairing it with their dough stick (youtiao). It's crispy on the outside, slightly chewy inside, while still staying light and fluffy. Dipping it into the congee completely changes the experience and honestly feels like a must-order combination. Another standout for me is the steamed spareribs with black bean and taro. The spareribs are tender and flavorful, and the black bean sauce adds a savory depth without overpowering the dish. Service continues to be efficient and well-organized, even when busy. One thing I noticed is that the restaurant is especially popular with elderly customers, which honestly says a lot about the food being comforting, traditional, and consistent. Almost every table had some combination of congee, rice rolls, and steamed dishes, which seems to be the way to go here. The Shrimp Rice Rolls are the clear star--the rice noodle is incredibly smooth and thin, which is the mark of a great chang fen. They don't skimp on the shrimp, and the sweet soy sauce ties it all together perfectly. For something heartier, the Wonton Noodle Soup features a very clean, savory broth and snap-to-the-bite noodles. The Pork Congee is also a winner; it's silky, flavorful, and exactly what you want on a cold day or when you're craving something soothing. We also grabbed the Shiu Mai, which were plump and well-seasoned with a great meat-to-shrimp ratio. The kitchen is efficient, and the flavors are consistently authentic. The Chinese sausage pieces sprinkled throughout added extra flavor too. The bowl is deep so there seemed to be roughly 5 cups of rice. The menu lists homemade laksa sauce as an ingredient but we didn't taste that, and the dish wasn't spicy at all either despite the 1 chili pepper rating. But it looked just like the menu picture so maybe the description is wrong. Fried chicken with tom yum sauce came with 6 pieces. Very juicy. I came here on a Friday evening with my friend to grab dinner around 6:00 PM. The wait was around an hour, so be very prepared if you're coming during the dinner rush. This spot is located where the majority of the Asian restaurants are in Milpitas, so it's safe to say the parking can get a bit hectic and intense. The interior of the place is very bright, modern, and clean. There is a lot of seating for a small space, but the reason they are so busy has a lot to do with the number of people wanting to check this spot out. When you sit down, you scan their virtual menu via QR code and order there instead of through a server. You have the choice to order on one phone as a group or separately. Between my friend and me, we ordered a beef mint salad, fried tofu, confit mushrooms, and truffle mushroom rice. I will say that when we first got the fried tofu and confit mushrooms, we were quite surprised by the small portions compared to the price. That said, they were delicious, but skippable if you're trying to find the best bang for your buck. What I absolutely would recommend is their truffle mushroom fried rice. This might have been my best bite this month. It was so savory, the mushrooms hit perfectly, and the coating of butter on the rice was supreme. It was $28 for a bowl, but it was a good value to split between two people. Overall, this place had great, fast service (our food came out in under 10 minutes), a nice ambiance, and fresh, flavorful food.

We arrived around 7 PM without reservations. The restaurant was PACKED with several parties one of which was a wedding. Still, we were able to be seated at a table after about a twenty-minute wait. Below are what we ordered: Macau Style Roast Pork Belly ($22.99) - Good, but on the salty side. Steamed Shrimp Dumpling (6 pcs, $16.99) - Yay for Pearl Bay offering these dim sum dumplings for dinner. These are HUGE har gow because there are two shrimp inside. Double yay!! Sweet Corn & Minced Chicken Soup ($18.99) - Velvety smooth and the perfect balance of savoury and sweet from the corn. Sweet & Sour Chicken - I didn't see this in the menu, but I requested for a plate of crispy chicken with a sweet glaze. Our waitress suggested this and said that she ask the kitchen to fry the chicken to a crisp. Although I would have preferred a little more crisp, I was happy with the flavour. Special Deep Fried Tofu ($13.99) - These looked a lot crisper than they were, but I still enjoyed the little cubes of fried tofu. Crispy Spring Rolls (6 pcs, $14.99) - These fried egg rolls were crispy, indeed. The side of sweet and sour dipping sauce were a good complement. Wok Fried Minced Chicken, Diced Fish & Pine Nuts with Lettuce Cup wraps ($23.99) - I heard our waitress ask if we wanted it with chicken, and I didn't taste any fish in the yummy mix. Very nice. Pan Fried Beef & Vegetable Egg Noodle - This was another special order that I requested. Very good. Dad really liked it, too. Deep Fried Sesame Ball - Yummy, but, again, I was looking for more crisp. Service was stellar again. Now that Ho Chow has permanently shuttered, Pearl Bay Restaurant is looking to become my new favourite Chinese restaurant in Fremont.

The 9 of us had the prefix $688 menu. There was a lot of food. Many other people had the same dinner. The food was fresh and piping hot. I liked the combination fried rice. It was loaded and had some crunchy tidbits on top. They was also a steak dish that came with shrimp that was delicious. It was also nice to be able to shop after dinner as there is a TJ Maxx Home goods right next door.

About a month ago, hubby and I came here for an early lunch on a Sunday. We came in time before…read morenoon as the restaurnt became quite busy after. We were seated near the kitchen so we were able to look in and see BTS. The restaurant is very spacious, clean and bright with a modern design. There are booth tables against wall and tables in the middle of the restaurant. A QR code is is availble at the table for you to view menu and order. I actually like this better as I don't feel rush to order and gives me the chance to look through the menu without feeling rush to order. Iced water was brought out instantly. We ordered the following: 1. Lamb skewer, spicy: you can smell the intensity of the spice when the dish was brought out from the chili powder. The meat is moist and grilled well w/ a nice crisp. There is no gamey smell. I took a first bite but the chili powder slightly burned my gums. Had to ask Hubby to shake some of the chili poweder off the skewers for me. Its a messy dish but very tasty. 2. Spicy beef soup w/ wide noodles: Noodles are HUGE! About 1.5 inches wide and forever long. I had to use the scissors to cut it up. Noodles are good. Chewey texture just as I like it. Comes with a whole egg and beef. The broth has a nice spice to it and unlike other spicy noodle soup I've tried, it does not taste oily or overwhelmed with spices esp Sze Chuan chilis. It had a good balace of savory and spiciness. 3. Wide noodles w/ braised chicken: This dish is delish but it's a BIG dish like a whole chicken was prepared! Can feed up to 4-5 people. It's the size of a medium pizza or even a Large. The thick sauce is very flavorful but not salty. It comes with potatoes, carrots, onions, green bell peppers, and dried whole chili. Its not spicy but may be for kids as we have a high spicy tolerance. Only thing about this plate I didn't like it there's bones. We ended 2 more meals with the leftover. The noodles are hand pulled in house as we sat by the kitchen and saw the kitchen staff making it. Food comes out pretty quick and service is very good. The staff are very attentive and met our needs promptly. We definitely will return to try other plates as the menu is pretty big.

Not good at all wasted $20 with tax. Not worth it. Make sure you guys give what was requested otherwise you will lose alot of customers. Hope this review helps!
