lamb stew noodle
Wei Y.

Tiny little spot, but super clean and tidy. The owners are incredibly friendly -- they chatted with us every time they brought out a dish and even introduced the DIY sauce bar. I got the lamb stew noodles -- highly recommend! You can tell the noodles are handmade, perfectly chewy and springy. The lamb broth was rich and flavorful with a nice milky color. The sliced braised lamb came on a small side dish, and while the portions of meat and veggies weren't huge, the quality made up for it. I also ordered the stir-fried cold noodles because someone online said it tastes just like the night market version from Kaifeng. But honestly, if you're used to lighter flavors, it might not be your thing. It's basically jelly-like noodles stir-fried in soy sauce -- pretty oily and heavy. Still, I'll definitely be coming back to try other flavors of the stew noodles!

My order

We three ordered three noodle soup bowls. Noodles tasted good. Each bowl has good amount of noodles. We ended up eating only half and took home the remaining half. Good value.

Henan Noodle is a small restaurant. It used to be a Shanghai restaurant before. Newly decorated, vibrant choice of color and simple decor. One unisex restroom. QR code ordering. Each table has their own sauces/condiments, carafe of ice water, etc. The service was friendly but ok. Braised Beef Noodle (3/5). Choice of two different kinds of broth. I got the original broth with kombu flavor. The broth came out super hot. Though, it was just ok and not as flavorful as I'd hope. I'd probably try the other choice next time. The noodles were long and chewy. They do provide you with some scissors for cutting the noodles into smaller bites. I didn't get any of the little side dishes pictured on the menu as you see like the peanuts, pickled vegetables, garlic, etc.

This place is small bit even with grand opening it was still pretty full! We came around lunchtime around 12pm on Christmas. There were around 2 open tables and we took one. What we ordered: Special Egg Fried Pancake - 9/10, flavor was great but some of the pieces of pancake were a tad hard and too chewy. They are usually a little more soft in my experience but it was still really good! Cold mixed seasoned vegetables - 9/10, flavor was great and it tasted good Beef steak stew noodle - 10/10, the meat was tender and fell off the ribs and the noodles were chewy and bouncy. Soup was flavorful too! Small wonton soup - 10/10, this is my favorite dish and they really nailed it! Broth was amazing and the wontons were great Service was great and they were also able to accomodate small children with a highchair. Will definitely be coming back!

So far so good. Clean look & easy to the eyes decor. Wait staffs are friendly & helpful. Water bottle is on every table for self service. Chopsticks & stainless steel bowls (almost Korean like) & the tables & chairs are high quality materials which matches the theme of simple & functional. For my lamb shank noodle soup, one can choose original flavor or several levels of spicy and curry flavor. Plus, there are three combo sets of veggies one can choose from. Ultimate flexibility. I chose original non-spicy and soup was delicious & not overwhelming, more like homemade. Noodle is definitely freshly made & nice softer texture. Don't leave in the soup too long, it may softens too much. The golden soup with fish & lamb slices dish: selected the original soup thinking that's the non-spicy option. We were wrong. This particular Original soup is already extra spicy and we let the management know and they were nice enough to replace the dish with a non-spicy plain vegetable noodle soup. Next time, we'l need to try all other dishes on the photo menu. We were here last night at 6pm and the wait was an hour so we tried 11:30am for lunch today and got our seats at noon. We'll be back!

I think I would give this place a pretty good review. The noodle soup here is a bit more unique compared to what I have tried in the past. When you enter the restaurant, the sesame fragrance is probably what hits you at first. I got the noodles with the lamb shank. The lamb shank was braised well and fairly salty and I'm pretty sure is that easy in order to pair it with the noodles. The noodle broth is sesame oil heavy. Something that I was not expecting but I think it was good. Noodles was good as well. The cold beef appetizer was a tad on the dry side but I think that is how it is. Service here is good and ordering is easy with QR code. Overall a filling and good lunch experience.

Really authentic Henan food, the only restaurant that serves Henan food in the whole Bay Area! It was very good, and the service is good as well. Highly recommended

Fresh noodles with a lot of choices! The environment was clean and the service was excellent! It's so satisfying to enjoy the comfort food on a cold winter night! Highly recommend this restaurant to everyone!

Ordered beef noodle soup. The noodle soup is amazing! Don't add the seaweed to your soup. It adds a weird taste to the soup.

About a month ago, hubby and I came here for an early lunch on a Sunday. We came in time before…read morenoon as the restaurnt became quite busy after. We were seated near the kitchen so we were able to look in and see BTS. The restaurant is very spacious, clean and bright with a modern design. There are booth tables against wall and tables in the middle of the restaurant. A QR code is is availble at the table for you to view menu and order. I actually like this better as I don't feel rush to order and gives me the chance to look through the menu without feeling rush to order. Iced water was brought out instantly. We ordered the following: 1. Lamb skewer, spicy: you can smell the intensity of the spice when the dish was brought out from the chili powder. The meat is moist and grilled well w/ a nice crisp. There is no gamey smell. I took a first bite but the chili powder slightly burned my gums. Had to ask Hubby to shake some of the chili poweder off the skewers for me. Its a messy dish but very tasty. 2. Spicy beef soup w/ wide noodles: Noodles are HUGE! About 1.5 inches wide and forever long. I had to use the scissors to cut it up. Noodles are good. Chewey texture just as I like it. Comes with a whole egg and beef. The broth has a nice spice to it and unlike other spicy noodle soup I've tried, it does not taste oily or overwhelmed with spices esp Sze Chuan chilis. It had a good balace of savory and spiciness. 3. Wide noodles w/ braised chicken: This dish is delish but it's a BIG dish like a whole chicken was prepared! Can feed up to 4-5 people. It's the size of a medium pizza or even a Large. The thick sauce is very flavorful but not salty. It comes with potatoes, carrots, onions, green bell peppers, and dried whole chili. Its not spicy but may be for kids as we have a high spicy tolerance. Only thing about this plate I didn't like it there's bones. We ended 2 more meals with the leftover. The noodles are hand pulled in house as we sat by the kitchen and saw the kitchen staff making it. Food comes out pretty quick and service is very good. The staff are very attentive and met our needs promptly. We definitely will return to try other plates as the menu is pretty big.

I remember this place used to be Chef Chengdu, but recently closed down and rebranded to become Super Potato. Here's my take and my experience on this place, as a first timer thus far: - The food was honestly out of this world, and when I say the portions are BIG - they were actually enough to cover the container (and even more). That's how much they have. I got the beef tripe with Chinese broccoli and rice, and while I had wished they included more Chinese broccoli, the sauce of the beef tripe was SO pungent and aromatic that I was able to sauce up my rice and enhance the flavor of my plain white rice. - The hospitality of this place was quite well - the waitresses are very attentive to each detail. Our requests were met conveniently without any hesitation. Ambience was also pretty well maintained. I'm definitely gonna come back and have more!! A budget friendly place forsure :)

My friend got the brown sugar rice cakes and wasn't expecting to love it but it was so so good, very crunchy and chewy at the same time!

Whenever I come back to California, the beef ball rice stick noodle soup is at the very top of my must eat list. The soup is genius in its simplicity. Clear, flavorful broth creates a perfect accompaniment to the bouncy, ribbon like noodles. The meatballs are so tender and springy, and unlike any meatball I've ever encountered. Crunchy pork fat bits and greens swim about and add fun variety in every bite. This is the soup I want when I'm heartbroken (often), sick (annoying), or hungover (unfortunately also often). The fact that I have to fly several thousand miles to get it is my only negative about it. I'm confused why there's so many different variations of tk noodle but honestly I don't really care. I do wish people wouldn't play sounds or their phones while eating, it's just inconsiderate to others. I was really impressed by their rice cake with egg dish. So flavorful and perfectly matched with the vinegar dipping sauce. I also really enjoyed their assorted noodle soup. The broth could have used a bit more salt, but I thought it had good flavor. All of the components including the shrimp and the meatballs were tasty. Definitely want to come back for more.

The flavor is comforting and well-balanced without being overly salty, and the texture is smooth and satisfying. I highly recommend pairing it with their dough stick (youtiao). It's crispy on the outside, slightly chewy inside, while still staying light and fluffy. Dipping it into the congee completely changes the experience and honestly feels like a must-order combination. Another standout for me is the steamed spareribs with black bean and taro. The spareribs are tender and flavorful, and the black bean sauce adds a savory depth without overpowering the dish. Service continues to be efficient and well-organized, even when busy. One thing I noticed is that the restaurant is especially popular with elderly customers, which honestly says a lot about the food being comforting, traditional, and consistent. Almost every table had some combination of congee, rice rolls, and steamed dishes, which seems to be the way to go here. The Shrimp Rice Rolls are the clear star--the rice noodle is incredibly smooth and thin, which is the mark of a great chang fen. For something heartier, the Wonton Noodle Soup features a very clean, savory broth and snap-to-the-bite noodles. The Pork Congee is also a winner; it's silky, flavorful, and exactly what you want on a cold day or when you're craving something soothing. We also grabbed the Shiu Mai, which were plump and well-seasoned with a great meat-to-shrimp ratio. The kitchen is efficient, and the flavors are consistently authentic. The Chinese sausage pieces sprinkled throughout added extra flavor too. The bowl is deep so there seemed to be roughly 5 cups of rice. Unfortunately the laksa shrimp fried rice was disappointing in comparison. It didn't have much flavor overall - better than plain rice but definitely needed more seasoning. The menu lists homemade laksa sauce as an ingredient but we didn't taste that, and the dish wasn't spicy at all either despite the 1 chili pepper rating. But it looked just like the menu picture so maybe the description is wrong. Fried chicken with tom yum sauce came with 6 pieces. Very juicy. We also enjoyed the herbal roasted prime steak with sausage rice. The delicious rice had the taste of fish sauce. Although Taishoken is known for their tsukemen, I'll always opt for mazesoba if I see it on a menu. The mazesoba here is easily some of the best I've had in the Bay Area. The included piece of chashu is well-seasoned, fall apart tender and had a good balance of lean to fatty meat. The noodles are cooked to perfection and have a really nice chew to them. There is just the right amount of sauce in the dish, and the raw egg yolk adds a wonderful richness that coats each strand of noodle when mixed. Included with your mazesoba is a small side of vinegar. I would definitely recommend trying out the mixed mazesoba on its own -- without the vinegar, and adding in the vinegar about half-way in in order to try out a completely different flavor profile of the noodles. The acidity of the vinegar cuts through the richness and keeps you coming back for bite after bite. If you've never tried mazesoba before, I can't recommend it enough at Taishoken.
