I give the food a 3/5, but an extra star for the exceptional customer service! I stumbled across this on Yelp and was immediately intrigued by the Spicy & Beef Tallow Bear. We can on a Friday night and got seated immediately. Our waitress was very informative about the menu and portion sizes which helped because we were only a party of two who weren't trying to over order. I mainly default for a tomato broth and some type of beef, so opted for Wagyu here. I can say that the Wagyu was pretty chewy and unfortunately not my favorite, but I did enjoy the tomato broth although it was pretty oily. I also enjoyed the Lamb Spine too, it came in a huge portion that gave us leftovers for a full meal the next day. The food is flavorful and the presentation is very nice. You can choose between 2-3 different style broths with no extra cost: our group chose the seafood, bone, and tomato paste broth. I liked the seafood and tomato paste broth. The bone one didn't have a strong flavor and tasted a bit bland. We got the beef, pork belly, tendon, and intestines for protein and the quality was pretty good. Very reasonably priced hot pot restaurant, you can order multiple soup bases and they will give you a split pot. They are not AYCE, so you order a la carte but everything was very affordable and will easily fill you up. The ramen and noodle dishes were extremely big, so no need to order one portion per person (unless you want to!). On the other hand, the meat dishes were fair in portion size, so scale that up if you want more meat in your meal. They have a sauce station with a few options so you can make your own sauce mix, and a grass jelly pot too for dessert. Staff came by multiple times very quickly to ask if we were ready to order, but were still patient with us as we figured out what to order. The English translations were not all that great, but we sort of figured it out via trial and error. The restaurant was small but they had designated areas for large party. There were also plenty of parking spaces. They went through the menu and gave us some recommendations. The food here was soo good! the customer service was beyond amazing; they were super attentive. I dropped my chopsticks two times and they were so quick on their feet to get me another one within seconds. I didn't even have to ask for new chopsticks because they were so observant! It was also surprisingly cheap given that it was at most $200 for five people and we ordered a TON of food. I appreciated how responsive and on-point they were with their customer service. In order to make room for more food, they even cleared our tables as soon as we finished our first dish. I really enjoyed this hotpot place!! I was first attracted because of the cute bear that I wanted to see for myself. I was even more intrigued as I noticed the great overall rating. Firstly, this place is an a la carte hotpot restaurant which I usually dont go to because they can tend to be pricey and add up when you order more inclusions. However, the price was very fair for 4 people coming out to about ~$125. I think it definitely lives up to the rating. The broths were really good and flavorful! An absolute hidden gem!!! I only have a few hot pot spots that I frequent in the Bay Area so I wanted to try a new restaurant. I stumbled upon Jiuding on yelp and it had such great reviews so I knew I had to check it out. My boyfriend and I came for dinner on Sunday and had an incredible time! We got the spicy and beef tallow hot pot and the three fresh hot pot for our bases. Both had excellent flavors but I was a huge fan of the three fresh base. Highly highly recommend! And all the ingredients were fresh and delicious. T meat was great quality and there was so much variety in general. Service has never really stood out to me at other hot pot spots but the service here was noticeably great. They made sure we always had enough napkins and checked in to refill our broth once in a while. Such a friendly and attentive staff! Overall: 4.4/5 We came on a Monday night so we were seated right away. There were barely any diners but the couples/groups that were there were very quiet. It was strange that everyone there was pretty much there to just eat and not socialize so our table of 3 ended up being the "loudest" one there. The menu is like a dim sum restaurant where you mark which items you want. You can get your bowls at the sauce bar which has a great number of options. I put a little of everything, and it ended up tasting good. Spicy & Oil Hot Pot ($3.95): This is the only hot pot they recommended if you got the bear. The spice levels and oiliness of this soup really irritated my stomach, and it didn't help that we put in the bear beef fat. I had to fish out a lot of peppercorns which was annoying but the broth was strong & full of umami. Mushroom Hot Pot ($3.95): This was my least favorite soup since it was pretty bland. The mushroom flavor didn't come out. I just mixed this with the spicy & oil soup. Tomato Hot Pot ($3.95): This was surprisingly the best soup of the 3 we tried. It doesn't have a strong tomato taste. However, when I asked the waitress about the bear, she basically implied that it's not really worth getting it since it's just adding more oil to the broth for the extra $3. As many restaurants are faced with the challenging times of covid, I'm impressed with the steps Jiuding has taken for a comfortable hot pot experience. They have around 4-5 tents outside their restaurant that offers outdoor dining without being near anyone else. Having your own individual tend feels safe and follows the 6 feet guideline. They also offered indoor dining (4 tables only) which are very spaced apart (more than 6 feet for sure). We were seated for indoor dining, however, with the covid cases rising as of mid-November, I know indoor dining will cease until cases are stabilized. Thanks to covid we didn't have to wait at all to get seated, whereas Jiuding would normally have a very long wait. We ordered the spicy and oil broth as well as the seafood broth. Both were fragrant and tasted delicious. I love how much broth they give you, the split pot is bigger than most hot pot places. They give you a menu to mark down each thing that you want, so we went to town on marking what we wanted. We tried the beef, lamb, fresh tofu, Chinese donut, enoki mushrooms, vermicelli noodles, baby corn, fish cakes, and house made meatballs. The presentation and quality of everything was spot on. Beautifully presented and fresh tasting ingredients. We had marked down bok choy on our menu but I think they didn't see it because it was never brought out. We also thought that the baby corn would be the tiny little corn cobs, but it was actually regular corn just cut up into smaller chunks. Wish that was more clear. After they bring out the ingredients, they pretty much leave you be for your own privacy and safety. They will glance over to take away empty plates and refill the broth if it's running low. Special note that the house made meatballs were really good, and I enjoyed that the Chinese donut was fried crisp and they were the smaller ones rather than the large pieces. For the portion of each side, I would say prices were fair. They are accepting Venmo as payment which provides contactless payment for everyone's safety. I've only been here a couple times, once pre-COVID, and once during COVID. I enjoyed the hot pot experience both times. They're currently set up for outdoor dining with individual tents for each table (unfortunately only 5 tables though). I love the individual tents because they feel safer and more intimate. Over my visits, I've tried the beef tallow broth, tomato broth, and three fresh broth. The beef tallow broth is too oily and spicy for me, so it does not sit well with my stomach afterward. But the tomato broth and the three fresh broth are great! The tomato broth packs more flavor, and the three fresh broth pairs with it nicely if you want a milder broth. I think the three fresh broth is good for cooking fish and pork. All the ingredients we ordered tasted fresh and were nicely presented for us. The meat and seafood we ordered were really good. I liked that they offered frozen tofu and the bean curd skin roll (not sure what it's called in English). My few gripes is that I wish their potatoes were sliced thinly so that I can get that crunchy texture after I cook it. I also wish they offered lotus roots. They offer 3 sauces: mushroom sauce, bean sauce, and beef sauce. You'll have to ask for it though if you want it. They're all delicious in their own right. This is my second time here with friends. It's a very cozy place especially on a rainy day ! We had a split pot~ one spicy and one non-spicy. I especially love their spices area. There are so many different spices you can add. And the meat are very fresh ! The only downside is: too far from me It's like an hour away from where I live, but so worth the drive !! read more

Came for lunch at noon on a Sunday. Plenty of seats available. First time so they gave a quick introduction and I started marking away. The waitress warned me that I may be overdoing it. Oh she was right haha, but I wanted stuff to go for later. I chose the mushroom broth and had to take off the "bear" because it was spicy and I can't do spicy sadly. Everything was delicious and service was great. Highly recommend this place! This review was for pre-COVID-19. The parking lot was small but we didn't have issues finding parking on 2/2/20. It was 6:20pm and there were only a couple of people at the Jiuding Flavor Restaurant. The interior looked clean to me and small. The menu was easy to read and was separated into categories. We opted for the 3 soup base with the Spicy and Beef Tallow Hot Pot ($3.95 per person) with another $3.95 extra which I assumed was for the beef tallow, the Tomato Hot Pot ($3.95 per person), and the Mushroom Hot Pot ($3.95 per person). We also ordered the Extreme Beef ($10.95), Extreme Kobe Beef ($16.95), Vegetable Platter ($8.95), Chinese Donut ($3.95), Handmade Noodle ($3.95), and the Instant Ramen ($1.95). It might seem like a lot but it was fine for the two of us. Their sauce bar was small and might not have the sauce you would see at other hot pot places; however, I was still able to make a sauce similar to what I usually made at other hot pot places. The Beef Tallow was the bear that you might have seen from other Yelpers' pictures. The Spicy and Beef Tallow Hot Pot was very spicy to me but had a lot of flavor. It was a little too spicy for my taste though. The Tomato Hot Pot was delicious and was my favorite among the three we chose. The Mushroom Hot Pot was just okay and light to me. We came here for the teddy bear, tbh. It didn't disappoint. The food was great and the soup base was excellent. My children thoroughly enjoyed their experience with the teddy bear. It was our first time at the restaurants and the servers were so helpful. Jiuding Flavor Restaurant caught my eye because of the cute 'Spicy Beef Tallow' bear. This spot is more of an order by price instead of a set price like all you can eat. There is plenty of parking in this parking lot. They have a lot of meat and seafood choices, and also a lot of vegetable choices as well. Honestly besides the cute bear, there was nothing very special/unique about this spot compared to other hot pot restaurants. Jiuding is one of my FAVORITE hotpot restaurants in the Bay Area. If you call ahead of time for outdoor dining, they always deserve a table tent for my family and pup! The best thing about Jiuding is their soup broth. Their three fresh broth is so flavorful, fragrant, and light with bean sprouts sprinkled in. I like to do a half & half pot with one side beef tallow spicy (a spice-filled, hot bean spicy broth) and the other side three fresh (a chicken stock based mild broth). The vegetables are plentiful and very fresh. I usually just order a la carte (~$4), but they do have vegetable platters that include an assortment of items. I ALWAYS cook vegetables in the mild broth because the spicy oils will CLING to your vegetables. The beef slices and pork slices are thinly-sliced (~$12); I definitely advise just dipping it in the spicy broth for 10 seconds for maximum flavor. My favorite seafood items are the fish ball roe and shrimp paste on a stick. I recommend their handmade noodles as an extra starch. The free sauce bar is simple, but I love their beef sauce, mushroom sauce, and spicy sauce for extra flavor! Service is attentive and excellent if I need a broth refill or any additional items. Pricing is very reasonable for the Bay Area (always less than $80 for 2 meats, 1-2 seafood items, 2 vegetables, 1 tofu item, and rice/noodles)! read more

To be honest, I love hot pot and I wanted to try this place because of the cute bears! I've never tried Chinese hot pot before and this place is a la carte style, which can get pretty expensive. I came with 3 other people, so a total of 4 which is a good group size when ordering at an a la carte hot pot restaurant so you can get a taste of a lot of things on the menu! All of the soup bases were good, but my favorite was the spicy & oil. The only thing I didn't like about the spicy & oil soup base was all of the peppercorn peppers and herbs that are in the soup. The taste can get over-powering. We all enjoyed all of the food. It sucks that it isn't AYCE. Including tip, each of us paid around $26. Ohhhhhh and the bear ice cream was pretty good. The bears are so detailed and cute! You see all the bear furs and stitching in the sweater! Def skipped out on the tallow bear because it was $1 more than the ice cream bears. My friends and I decided to get hot pot on a very hot day because why not...we needed more heat. We arrived around 11am on a Saturday and the place was empty except for the restaurant owner's family hanging out. We sat at the corner of the place. We received a menu and marked down the proteins and veggies we wanted to drop in the pot. The most popular soup base was the tomato, so we went with that and a spicy soup to for the yang. We asked about the infamous bear and the waitress who helped us said it's a pretty spicy bear made up of chili oil and other spices. My friend decided to order him to (because it was too damn cute to not include in our hot pot sesh obviously). The broth and the toppings came out quickly. There's a separate section off to the side for all of your saucy needs (soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, etc.). The tomato broth was on point and made the beef and udon noodles we had very flavorful. The spicy broth on the other hand was indeed spicy and not recommended for people with a baby mouth/ cant tolerate spices well. It was packed with a bunch of sichuan pepper corn, which are hard to strain out. I think I bit into 4 or 5 of them and them made the mouth feel numb and tingled with a splash of a sour-bitter taste. My friend had to rinse out when she accidentally ate well; she really hated the taste and almost ruined her meal. Towards the end of our hot pot sesh we decided to dunk the bear. And boy was he very spicy AF! I took one for the team and took a sip of the broth. My mouth was on fiya! I had to hold water in my mouth for the pain to dissipate. It irritated the helllo kitty out of my throat. Beware of bear, because he is legit bearry spicy. Overall, the food was delicious and reasonably priced. We ordered a good amount of veggies, mushrooms, fish cakes and beef as well as noodles and my party of 4 were full. Service was great as well. Check this place out and show them some love!
