As I was looking for parking, my wife asked for our seat to be moved from the back by the kitchen, and they acted like it was an issue to do so. I came in and spoke to one of the staff, and he asked us to wait while he sorted things. My wife did not like his attitude, she said he was really rude. Me, I don't argue with any of the staff at any restaurant I'm eating in. Being it was Valentine's Day we turned the other cheek. I was choosing between three different East Asian restaurants in the area for my birthday dinner, and after conferring with my friends, we all agreed that Chili's atmosphere, aesthetic, and food looked the best. We definitely made the right decision! Upon being seated, I realised that I had actually been here before two years ago on a date, and was really impressed by everything. Two years later, everything still hit the mark. As a Chinatown kid, I'm usually really stubborn about Chinese food and am not easily impressed, but Chili's really makes it hard for me to find fault. Although you won't get Chinatown prices, you will get Chinatown quality which is incredible for the area, and the presentation doesn't disappoint. The decor is 1920s Shanghai glamour. Love all the little novelty items around the walls and shelves. The leather booklet menu offers lots of dishes to choose from. BIL: how many dishes do you think we should order for our party of 8? Waiter: (thinking for a few seconds)...Hmmm, maybe 5? My BIL and I looked at each other and said, yeah that's not enough maybe 7 dishes and 3 appetizers. Here are the dishes that wowed us: - Scallion Pancakes (the best I have ever had) - Tofu with Crab Meat - Truffle Beef Tenderloin - Three Pepper Chicken (we all couldn't get enough of this one) All the dishes were presented with great execution. I was in a Chinese mood during my time in New York and my cousin had the best recommendation for a Sichuan place on a beautiful Thursday night. We shared the food and Oh my God I was amazed by everything. Service 10/10 - The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, they were on top of refills and they even mixed up my noodles and pork and vegetables. Even though I could've done it myself, I never felt more comfortable and important to them. Interior 9/10 - The place was crowded for a Thursday night but even though the inside felt pretty small and tight, it looked amazing in there. Food 10/10 - Everything was delicious the Kung Fu Shrimp was well spiced up and crispy, the buns however caught me by surprise as it bursted on my face after I took the first bite but it was still delicious. As for the rest of the food, it was cooked to damn near perfection and me and my cousin crushed every single thing on the table. I do have to say that made me feel confident as you have to know your Chinese food is good if you're making folks pay for rice. And this was really good. A little too much sichaun peppercorn for me and not enough chili and the sauce was a little too sweet, and I didn't really get much "wokhei" but with that said, these are minor sticking points. I came here for dinner one evening with my friend and had a great time. The interior of the restaurant is warm and casual. Service was pretty quick. We got the dan dan noodles, beef pancake, and the chungking spicy chicken. The dan dan noodles with pretty standard--I wasn't blown away by them but they weren't bad! I found myself at Chili for a work holiday get together. I had never been here before, but one of my colleagues had good things to say so I was really excited to check it out - plus discovering a new spot is never a bad thing in my book. Chili sits in Midtown East close to Murray Hill and K-Town. Like many other Manhattan restaurants, the space itself isn't too big; there's a bar towards the front of the restaurant with tables on the opposite wall, with more towards the back. The decor is kind of bright with soft blues and tasteful decor throughout the space. There were 5 of us, and we decided to order everything family style to share. We started with some shrimp dumplings, wontons, and scallion pancakes. These were all good - tasty without being overly salty. We then moved onto mains - spicy lamb, spicy chicken, eggplant, and tofu. Again, everything was really tasty - I don't tolerate high spice levels but this was just enough heat where I was able to enjoy everything. We had a couple of rounds of drinks and I wouldn't overlook their craft cocktail menu - they were creative and tasty. Service was good - we were told once seated there was a 90-minute limit which they adhered to as we saw a party waiting at the door as we were wrapping up. I think for a party of 5 that 2 hours would have been more appropriate, but I also understand that it's the holidays and they need to turn over tables. This may be my new favorite place. The restaurant had old-school charming. Dim lights. Cozy. The food was amazing. Flavor profiles off the charts. Service oddly fast. From the time we sat down until the time the food came out, it didn't seem long at all. I had the goji berry hot tea (which I feel could have come in a larger size). The tea was on the small side but, it was delicious. We also ordered the Kung Fu Shrimp which was my favorite. However, on this dish I believe there were more hot peppers than shrimp. I understand cooking the shrimp with the peppers to bring out the flavor. But plating all of the peppers was a bit unnecessary as none of us ate the actual peppers. Maybe they could have used bell peppers as filler. Either way, it was delicious but not a good portion for daily size. It seems like it is at first glance but since the plate has significantly more peppers than shrimp, it wasn't a good family size portion. We ordered the Kung Pao shrimp as well. This dish was very sauce and a tad on the sweeter side and a good portion . I preferred the Kung Fu Shrimp. The Vegetable Fried Rice was great and also a great sized portion for family style. This is a great spot a fun time with fusion Chinese with a novel twist. We went there on Jerry's recommendation which is always a smart thing to do :-) This is near Koreatown and it's a fun cool spot. We were there on a Saturday and it was packed. The place has a great ambience with lots of fun people. The bar is great and they are really busy. The main thing is that the cocktails which are NYC expensive but quite a cool set of drinks. We loved the whiskey cocktails and it was a great way to get the party started. The pours a generous and they definitely a spending the time to figure out some really novel combination. The service can be a little slow on a busy night like this, but they do a good job of keeping the dishes coming. We loved the various Chinese dishes. The best things were the Szechuan cold noodles which is a pretty classic disk. The Mung Bean jelly is definitely not something that you see in Chinese-American restaurants and you should give it a try. The scallion pancakes are not that traditional but they are crispy and delicious And the potstickers are also great, but we didn't come here because of the "regular" food but for something special. For that you should try the Lobster Szechuan style. This is a classic dish and it was well prepared (and expensive). We also liked the braised tofu with crab meat. The best part has to be the desserts, we had this wonderful dessert with dry ice that literally unfolded itself. You are coming to Chilis for that kind of show. And we enjoyed it. read more

Some of the items were really yummy - my favorites were the spicy cumin lamb, double cooked pork, and eggplant. But some of the items such as the tofu and fish soup tasted a little starchy. The chili chicken was also really salty. I will add however the service was spectacular as we had this frozen cake which was impossible to cut and our waiter really went above and beyond to help us slice it into 9-10 pieces. I was meeting some friends near the Grand Central area and put together a list of some local spots for my friends to review. CHILI was unanimously selected for its amazing reviews, interesting menu, and nice decor. When we arrived on that Friday evening, the place was packed with every seat taken. It was not a large restaurant and only had a tiny bar, but they clearly had a dedicated group of diners. We were seated at a tight table, but made the most of our space. We skipped cocktails, though they had sounded delicious, and stuck with water. The service was completely fine, but unmemorable. However, the food was phenomenal! There were so many options, but we tried to stick to items that were interesting without being too unfamiliar. We also wound up sharing the plates, so we wanted to make sure that we had something for everyone. The Braised Fish Fillet with Tofu included tender, moist pieces of sole and steamed tofu in large bowl of house-made chili sauce, peanuts, and cilantro. I was not sure how well the nuts would go with the spicy sauce, but they had been heavily crumbled, so they added mainly crunch and a bit of smokiness. The Sticky Rice Duck was a very interesting preparation. Essentially, sticky rice had been crisped into a patty that was surrounded on both sides by boneless tea-smoked duck. It was like a sandwich, but the duck was the bun. The meat was tender and flavorful on the inside, but also had a thin, crispy skin. Since the entrees did not come with rice, I appreciated having these crunchy blocks to dip into some of the other sauces on the table. We did order sides of nutty, rustic purple rice, but the crispy rice wound up being all the grains I needed. The Truffle Beef Tenderloin was diced and presented on a sizzling platter. The server poured black truffle oil and a "house secret chili sauce" over the meat, which caused it to smoke in a bold fashion that attracted others to glance in our direction. The tender, flavorful beef was tossed with fresh shallots, which made the dish even more impactful. Lastly, the Chengdu Mixed Mushroom assortment was served in a thick, rich sauce with a few slices of red pepper for color and heat. Despite the heavy sauce, the mushrooms maintained their texture and did not get too mushy. It was another great dish! As we left the restaurant, we saw a couple waiting outside for a table. Yummy schezuan food near times square! I was able to get seated right away when I came around 5:40 but as I left, it was definitely packed and people were waiting for tables. I really liked the twice cooked pork, it was the right amount of spice. Unfortunately I can't eat super spicy food anymore, like my mouth can handle it but my stomach says no :( so if you're old like me, where the mind is willing but the body says no- do not exceed one spice flame items on the menu or be prepared with pepto bismo. I also ordered the chrysanthemum cocktail cause I've never seen that as a cocktail before and was intrigued. Unfortunately it wasn't my cup of tea (see what I did there), I think for what it is, it's a well made cocktail but I personally prefer cocktails where you can't taste the alcohol and this one was tasting more alcohol than tea. Came here on a Thursday night and my friend and I were quickly seated. The drinks look amazing here and I wanna try them next time but this time we were hungry and ordered a huge feast. We ordered a bunch of veggie friendly items and the Sichuan cold noodle and the scallion pancake are must orders! The perfect size and so delicious. The eggplant was incredibly flavorful and garlicky but I would skip the chengdu mushroom and the mung bean noodle was just ok. Overall though delicious food and great service!
