    Surf & Turf Ribeye
    Alan B.

I was in town late, decided to go here. The gentleman at the bar was very polite. I made my order to go, went with the surf and turf ribeye and their peanut butter pie thing. I requested medium. I wasn't expecting it to be cooked medium, never is what I request at a chilis. I received it well done. The broccoli was all dried out, the mashed potatoes were ok. The peanut butter desert was terrible. Tasted raw and barely had any peanut butter taste in it. I didn't have high hopes coming here. It was exactly as I expected it.

Steak fajitas? Ha! They're big ass chunks! At least try! I come here a lot but this is isn't it folks.

Inviting entrance and beautifully lit on this Moonlit night at Chili's (Flagstaff, Arizona)

I came to this Chili's for dinner with my daughter while we were visiting the Flagstaff area. We were pretty hungry after arriving into the area, just driving here from California, and we were ready for an enjoyable meal. My daughter likes Chili's, so this is where we decided to come. The outside landscaping at this Chili's was clean and well maintained, and the exterior lighting made for an inviting entrance. We were greeted immediately after entering, and the hostess showed us to a table near the front of the restaurant. I would have preferred to have a booth near the back of the restaurant, but other seating options were not offered to us. The restaurant was fairly busy, but not completely packed. Shortly after being seated, we were greeted by our waiter and a waitress. Apparently, our waiter was a new employee, and he appeared to be in the training process, with guidance provided by the more experienced waitress. Both were professional and friendly, and both were attentive to our dining needs throughout our meal. I ended up ordering the "Smokehouse Combo" (one of my favorites), with honey-Chipotle chicken crispers, jalapeño-cheddar smoked sausage, and a half order of ribs. These three items in my Smokehouse Combo also came with roasted street corn, French fries, and garlic toast. My daughter ordered the "Chipotle Fresh Mex Bowl," as well as their "Loaded Baked Potato Soup." Both of our meals were made perfectly, and both were delicious. For drinks, I ordered a Dr. Pepper, and my daughter ordered their strawberry lemonade. We had an enjoyable experience while we were here. Our meals were excellent, and the service was great as well. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends if they were visiting the area.

Based on that experience, I chose to stick with the Ground Beef Burrito, priced at $14.25 as of January 2026. It was just as good as I remembered and still amazing. During this visit, we also tried two other dishes. The first was the Creamy Chimichanga, also known as Chimichanga a la Crema, which cost $19.25. This dish was savory, creamy, and very indulgent. Like the burrito dishes, it came in a large portion and was served in a huge tray. I liked it, but I felt it was a little too heavy for me because of all the cream. Even so, it was still very delicious. We also ordered the Veggie Super Burrito for $14.99. It was filled with beans and was pretty good overall, but I didn't think it was anything especially memorable. Out of everything we ordered this time, the Ground Beef Burrito remained my favorite. Overall, I was once again satisfied with the food from this restaurant and felt very impressed with the experience.

After eating next door for a lunch, we saw the signs all over MartAnne's claiming they are "The…read moreHouse That Chilaquiles Built!" We were intrigued enough that we visited MartAnne's the very next night for dinner. That was on a Tuesday at around 6PM and it wasn't too busy the entire time we were there. House Horchata ($5.99) - This drink comes in a giant 32 oz Ball jar with tons of ice. Per the server it's made with milk and condensed milk, no rice milk at all. It's rich, thick, creamy, sweet, filled with earthy notes of vanilla and cinnamon. There's so much spice included that at some points, there's almost a gritty feeling while drinking. It's perfect for a hot day after hiking. Buckwheat Pancake ala carte ($4.99) - Buckwheat pancakes are something we've never seen before on a diner menu in the past. It seems to be pretty common around Arizona, so we had to give it a try before leaving Flagstaff. This one's pretty big, almost plate sized. It's really moist, fluffy, bouncy, and light with a slight sweetness and a certain earthy flavor. It's moist enough that it sticks to the ceramic plate it's served on. The pancake is somewhat crumbly due to the low gluten content of buckwheat, although I believe they use a mix of buckwheat and wheat flour to give some more stability. It's bluish grey in color with black specks of ground buckwheat throughout. It's dusted with powdered sugar, but it's not a ton, making the pancake not really sweet at all. The pancake comes with a small cup of their cinnamon honey butter. It's not mixed that well, leaving it mostly unhomogenized with streaks of honey and spice through the softened salted butter. Tamale ala carte ($4.99) - MartAnne's offers two types of tamales - the first a red chile beef, and the second a green corn and cheese. We went with the latter, which is a homemade tamale with a somewhat looser, coarsely ground masa shell surrounding an interior of yellow sweet corn kernels, a bouncy and somewhat spongy block of Oaxaca cheese, and a fragrant green chile. There's a slight sweetness throughout and the tamale overall is easy to eat. Chilaquiles, Xmas, Fratelli ($17.99) - This is a monster sized plate of a mishmash of ingredients. There are three things as essentially a base layer. Firstly some Mexican rice that's tender, moist, and fluffy, totally unlike the more common dry and and compact version. My guess is that they skip the initial frying step that helps keeps the starch together. It's quite fragrant and has gives a bit of heat. On top of the rice is a layer of hash browns. The potatoes are tender on the interior, griddled on one side to give a delightful crunch, although there's some acridity that develops. Another third of the plate is covered with chili beans - tender pinto beans that are well salted and seasoned. Then there's the eggs stuffed in between layers of corn tortilla chips, smothered with sauce. I went with the Christmas combination of red and green sauce, followed up by the Fratelli-style pork green chile. The green sauce is fragrant and vegetal, while the red sauce is more smoky. The pork, which is cut into chunks, on top is a bit tough and dry but there's more than enough sauce to make up for that slight demerit. Finally, there's a small mound of I believe jalapeno peppers, cut into small neon-green colored pieces. Some pieces are spicy, some are mild, all have a vegetal pepper taste. I found the food at MartAnne's to be pretty good. It definitely hits the spot after hiking all around the area for most of the day. Bathrooms - Two individual rooms, one for men, one for women. Note: MartAnne's charges a 3.5% credit card fee. This is labeled on the menu.

Overall the service was very prompt and friendly, a welcome experience after hiking outside most of the day. The restaurant itself is an interesting blend of Tex-Mex and Native American cuisine, with frybread living alongside cheesy lunch combos and plenty of dairy rich cream sauces. Chips & Salsa (Complimentary) - The chips are normal white corn tortilla chips, nothing really to comment about. Salsa Brava has three types of salsa. The first is a mild pico with fresh tangy tomatoes, red onions, and cilantro stem in a watery base that's somewhat sour from citrus. The second is a medium spicy salsa that's a bit warming, filled with comforting smoky and tomato flavors. The last is the spiciest, but doesn't really top out much higher than spicy jalapeno. It's so fruity at the start it's almost like drinking salted pineapple juice. Navajo Taco ($19.50) - The base is a piece of frybread around 7 inch in diameter. It's rather thin, not puffy at all, making it somewhat dense and chewy. The frybread is slathered with some refried beans that are tender and thick. They aren't pureed until completely uniform; instead, there are some pinto pieces strewn throughout. On top is a mound of their famous carnitas, full of pork flavor, seasoned well and braised until very tender, almost fall-apart so. There's a tiny bit of a tang but I'm not sure I can identify the flavor as citrus as the menu indicates. Plenty of cheese is melted on top, then a pile of mixed lettuce, tomato, pickled onions, and lime creme. Finally, there's a huge mound of sour cream. It all adds up to an extremely filling meal. It's fatty, it's rich, it's decadent. It sits so heavily in the stomach that it feeds two very hungry people. On the side, they give a small cup of Mexican rice. It has some charred bits inside and also some whole corn kernels. It's pretty much the perfect texture, no complaints. (5/5) Stuffed Sopapilla ($19.50) - Even with the taco being so rich, this dish is even more so. It's the same frybread base, but folded over with tons of ingredients stuffed inside, placed on a bunch of lime creme, and then topped with even more dairy. The lime creme is interesting in that it doesn't really taste like crema. For some reason, I taste nutmeg which reminds me heavily of alfredo sauce. On top is a bunch of melted cheese and cilantro cream, and then some diced onion, cilantro, and pickled onion. There's not enough acidity for that much richness from the rest of the dish. And that's why they give a side of sour cream. Which also adds more dairy richness, but also a pleasing tangy note. There's so much varied dairy, there's probably enough saturated fat to make even a cardiologist blush. Stuffed in the sopapilla there's even more cheese! And then refried beans and a ton of pulled chicken. The chicken is surprisingly moist - usually dishes with this many fatty and saucy elements means the chicken is an afterthought and cooked until super dry. This one's actually quite nice though, seasoned well with great chicken flavor. (5/5) Both plates are broiled so everything is warm and the cheese is all melty and delicious. This is one of the few places I've visited where they give you a ton more food than the menu pictures online indicate. Even with us hiking the entire day, we could not finish more than half of each plate. I feel like this is one of those restaurants which I wouldn't have given such a high review if I hadn't been ravenous going in. But I can only rate on how much I enjoyed the food as I ate it - and for that, Salsa Brava deserves a 5. Bathrooms - Two larger ones with multiple stalls Note: Salsa Brava charges an automatic 4% service charge. This is labeled on the menu.

We now have several of these family-owned, fast-casual restaurants all over the Valley. They specifically cater to young families on a budget. I am a big fan of their hot sauce and at times will get a pint of it to go. Someburros' menu consists of traditional Mexican food made from family recipes from Sonora, Mexico. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and the outdoor area is especially impressive. They have what looked like a private dining space inside a barn-style shed, several gas fire pits, and even a slightly elevated platform that looked perfect for live music. The food itself was outstanding. I ordered the chicken and biscuits and my wife got the chilaquiles. Both portions were huge. The chicken and biscuits were exactly what I was hoping for: smothered in rich country gravy with a perfectly fried flattened chicken breast that was crispy on the outside and juicy inside. The buttermilk biscuit was golden, flaky, buttery, and had the perfect balance of soft interior and crisp edges. I honestly got full halfway through my plate and never even got a chance to try the wife's chilaquiles. The drip coffee was excellent too -- simple, hot, and exactly what good breakfast coffee should be. There's street parking along with a small parking lot across the street. I feel like we'd only been seated just a hot second when the food arrived! Fabulous service - quick and friendly and always with a smile. Hubby and I each got a cup of fresh brewed coffee that did not disappoint! Not too weak, not too strong... brewed to perfection! My husband ordered the chicken and biscuit and I the chilaquiles Christmas style. Lord have mercy both of these dishes were the bomb! Not only plenty of food but super tasty - I had my chilaquiles with scrambled eggs and they also came with about 1/2 a freshly sliced avocado. Nice, tangy flavor and sprinkled with just the right amount of cotija cheese! Shared with the table and still had leftovers (and I'm not mad about it). Husband's dish was perfection - the perfect biscuit combo - fluffy, chewy and crunchy in all the right places, and the gravy not overly seasoned or salty. Chicken was a breaded/fried (possibly baked) and cooked/seasoned just right. Inner meat was tender and moist and outside of course was crunchy - batter was well seasoned and breast didn't seem greasy at all. I worked in a mom-and-pop coffee shop decades ago - everything was homemade and fresh and the coffee 2 die 4. This establishment brought me back to those times in regard to coffee/food quality and hospitality! Will 100p be returning when next we're in town!
