This if our last night in town and I guess I just picked the wrong place for us. i can only say the beer was cold and the sopapilla was delicious! I mean extra delicious and the only restaurant that actually served real honey at the table from a syrup dispenser NOT a packet. That in and of itself earned an entire star! Very nice is that They offer an impressive selection of beers both on tap and in bottles and turned my husband on to a New Mexican beer fave! Chips were very rustic and thick and while the salsa was hot, I was not overly impressed with the flavor. I couldn't decide on Chile rellanos or gorditas so I ordered a la carte, one of each. My Gordita was good but was soggy due to being placed on the same plate as my rellano. I didn't care for their rendition of rellano. One (bite) and done. It just didn't do it for me and they are one of my favorite NM dishes. I didn't care for my husband's beef fajitas at all. I don't know what cut of meat they used but it was overcooked and the taste came off as overly "limey." My husband said it was good in the flour tortilla (which are palm sized). I'm wondering if my taste buds were just off today as nothing really appealed to me except the beer and the sopapilla . The young waitress was friendly and competent but not knowledgeable about the food. It was not terribly busy but appeared to attract locals. I guess I should insert here that we are undoubtedly food snobs but enjoy everything from James Beard awarded chefs to food trucks... We are equally picky across the board but we are just as critical of what we turn out of our own kitchen. Sometimes we fail but mostly we do not. If not for the fact that we lived in NM for almost 10 years and have an entire chest freezer of green chilies put up every season, make our own Chile powders and regularly turn out authentic NM dishes from our own kitchen, I may never eat NM food again. If I'd never had it before, i may never eat it again. I am so turned off at our samplings this trip. Just done. Another $65 down the hatch. read more

I didn't get the chance to eat at Chilitos restaurant, because they refused to serve me. I am an epileptic and have a service animal, they would not let me in the restaurant. The man at the host stand said that animals were not allowed, however I tried to explain to him that my dog is a service animal. It is illegal. I am disgusted. Don't eat here. read more

We decided to give Chilitos a try today for lunch. We have lived in this area, an area full of different Mexican food restaurants, so we finally got around to trying them today. My wife had the taco plate (one beef and one chicken) and I had the sopapilla covered in green chile beef con carne. Both of our meals were good but we have had better similar meals in the area. I wish I could give a better rating...I ordered a carne asada burrito & asked what came in it. My fiancé is ordered Chile con carne. As weird as it sounds, I can smell FAKE beans from a mile away. Our food came, my asada tasted like chorizo, there was also sour cream in my burrito, which the server never said came with the burrito nor was it listed on the menu. My fiancé's plate had little to be meat mostly fat. I ate about 25% of my burrito and all the server had to say was "hopefully it doesn't" after I commented that I was lactose intolerant. I grew up in Las Cruces and lived in Albuquerque so I have my favorite Mexican restaurants and Chilitos is definitely a gem. The combination plate (green chile enchilada, taco, and chile relleno) was delicious. Everything including the mexican rice and beans tasted so homemade. Ordered food online it was easy, picked up several plates for dinner for our get together. Drove a few miles got home and when I checked meals and we were missing all the salad dressings. The tortillas were ruined because not in foil but laying on top of meal so when we got home they were full of food and soggy tried to salvage tortilla but it was no good. The avocado and sour cream for the plates didn't have lids and leaked all over the food made a big mess and looked pretty awful in the food tray and on the other plates with sour cream and avocado didn't leak but was hot and runny and coming out of containers, Thank goodness they put lids on salsa but nothing else was covered. Those are all things I enjoy but not like that, it made the food look gross. I was embarrassed to serve it to our guests and my wife had so much stress trying to put plates together so it didn't look so bad. Maybe next time they can put tortillas in foil, lids on all the condiments and place in a bag separate from plates. We expect more from them, they are not new, the food is not cheap. My Dad really enjoys his Mexican food, and has his favorite restaurants for different dishes. For his birthday I came to town and we went to his favorite place for Chili Rellenos: Chilitos on Valley Dr. All I can say is: delicious! The old man knows :) I had been disappointed on this trip with a chili Relleno at La Posta (awful!) so I was thrilled to savor every fabulous bite of my Relleno on the Make Your own Combo plate. Chips were a bit thick for me, but salsa was great and the tasty sopapilla with honey was the perfect dessert. One year later I was back and they are still making it GREAT! The best legit, home cooked tasting Mexican food I've had in a long time, hands down... and I live walking distance from a few. First time here, and we sampled a to go menu with the carne asada burrito (had an amazing marinade); the combo meal with the beef taco, enchilada, and tamal with beans and rice were equally delicious (the green sauce with the hatch chilies poured over the enchilada and the tamal- wow). The service I received at Chilito's yesterday will ensure that I remain a customer when they re-open for dine-in customers post-COVID. The server on the phone was pleasant and efficient in taking my order and instructed me on what to do -- given all the restrictions in place because of COVID -- when I arrived. My order was ready exactly when he told me it would be, which has hardly been the case at other restaurants I've ordered takeout from during this time. The restaurant had propped open the front door with a table, making it immediately obvious to customers that we were to wait safely outside for our orders and pay for them there. Both the servers who greeted me were wearing gloves and masks; one server told me the cute mask she was wearing was a gift from her manager. I've always liked the food at Chilito's. Yikes. It was right next door to the Holiday Inn, so you can't beat the convenience. We'd been doing a lot of driving on a cross-southwest trip with the kids and figured it was perfect for folks who didn't want to get back into the car. The place, when you walk in, looks a bit dowdy -- but we don't care about that sort of thing if the food is good. And right off, the salsa was very, very good. But that's where it ended. I ordered a margarita, and I've never tasted anything so gross. I asked the waiter about it, who informed me it was not made with tequila, as they didn't have a liquor license. I guess it was made with... wine and mix? That is NOT a margarita, don't call it that on the menu. I ended up with a glass of the nastiest Cabernet I've ever had. The kids' food was greasy, but fine for kids. They don't care if things are greasy. But my husband and I split a fajita salad. When you think 'fajita', you think grilled meat, peppers and onions, right? This was a bag of supermarket salad undressed and upended on a plate with some raw chopped mushrooms, peppers, a couple red onions and some grilled chicken on top of it. There was a little cup of sour cream and a little cup of brown guacamole. I have to ask, did the person who put that dish together even eat food or understand it? Mystifying. What a strange thing... raw mushrooms and raw bell peppers on a 'fajita salad'? Weird. Anyway, the staff seemed nice, and they replaced my gross margarita and gave my kids refills. But this was just after the lunch hour so I have to give them a break! The chips are out of a bag but the salsa is great! The Guacamole was watered down and tasted plain! I ordered a chicken burrito with Green Verde sauce over it and was good, not great! I don't like the chicken that has been boiled in water and that's what this tasted like! Really good food! We had chicken enchiladas and the fajita plate with beef and chicken. The enchilada sauce is spicy, it has cayenne in it, if you want a spicy sauce on the side I would suggest you get enchilada sauce instead of salsa on the side. The fajitas chicken and beef had an amazing seasoning, the meat was tender and delicious. Rice and beans were cooked perfectly and the flour tortillas were delicious and warm (we did pick up). Been eating there for years. The owners father was Dick Perez, the founder of Dicks Cafe. It's a favorite for many locals as well as travelers and tourist. Everything is authentic Mexican food. The chips and salsa are wonderful as well as their entrees. Portions are generous too. Some of my favorites are, red flat enchiladas, beef fajitas, fajita salad (beef), tacos (beef), sopapilla compuesta, half red, half green, hamburger steak con queso and chef salad. They have good Faldo (soup), but it takes awhile. I'm not a fan of chicken but people I eat with seem to like it. Atmosphere is good and I doubt you'll walk away hungry. Closed on sundays read more

The rice was packed with flavor and had crispy bits. The tamale had a smokiness to it that I loved! And the hatch green Chile sauce was exactly what I was looking for.
